Law Student Who Accused Chinmayanand of Rape Detained for Questioning in Extortion Case

The law student, who accused BJP leader Chinmayanand of rape, was held for questioning on Tuesday in the extortion case. Her incarceration comes a day after she was left without anticipatory bail by a Division Bench of the Allahabad High Court.

The SIT has taken two others accused — Sachin and Vikram — on remand for more investigation in the case. The Student’s father and brother were there, when she was taken into the police custody.

The high court on Monday had pragmatic that the particular bench was formed to observe the SIT probe and anticipatory bail can be applied by the student, if in case she wants to.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had previously booked three of her friends after inquiring them concerning a video clip in which they were allegedly discussing extortion.

According to the SIT head Naveen Arora, the three had acknowledged their involvement in the case even though the law student had deprived of the charges. They have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 385 (extortion), 506 (criminal threats), 201(loss of evidence), 35 (criminal act done with a criminal intention) and 67 of the Information Technology Act. By which three of her friends were arrested.

“I do not know if the people who helped me get away from Chinmayanand were using me. I have not anything to do with the extortion case. I think all this play is being done to weaken my charges of rape,” briefed the student.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Chinmayanand ruins in prison as he has accepted the sexual harassment charges against him. During questioning by the SIT on Friday, he had confessed to having called the law student for “massages” while saying that he was ashamed of his act.
