The first glimpse of Mahakali, the upcoming female-led superhero film from the Prashanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), has been unveiled, offering a glimpse into an ambitious world inspired by Indian mythology. The project marks the directorial debut of Puja Aparna Kolluri and introduces Bhoomi Shetty as the lead in a larger-than-life superhero avatar.

The glimpse immediately grabs attention with the introduction of Akshaye Khanna as Sukracharya, a powerful antagonist driven by a desire to seek justice for the Asuras. His character appears determined to unite the Asuras against the gods and humans, setting up a larger conflict at the heart of the story.

Standing against this force is Mahakaali, who emerges as a powerful figure determined to defeat evil and restore balance to the universe. The final sequence, featuring Mahakaali in a fierce form with multiple arms while feeding a baby, stands out as one of the most visually striking moments in the glimpse.

The visual effects and production scale are among the major highlights of the promotional material. Akshaye Khanna’s intense appearance and commanding screen presence add further weight to the antagonist role. Smaran Sai’s background score also enhances the grandeur and intensity of the visuals.

Produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under the RKD Studios banner, Mahakali features an impressive ensemble cast, including Khushbu Sundar, Shriya Reddy, Samuthirakani, Rakesh Bedi, Rajat Kapoor, Nassar, Murali Sharma, Prudhviraj, and others in important roles.

Adding to the film’s pre-release buzz, Netflix has reportedly secured the OTT rights well ahead of the theatrical release.

Mahakali is scheduled to hit theatres on January 8, 2027, and will be released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. The film is also set to arrive in premium formats such as IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema, ICE, D-BOX, 4DX, and ScreenX, highlighting the ambitious scale of the project.
