The whole nation was shocked seeing millions of fans during the launch of his ‘Prajarajyam’ party in Tirupati in 2008. But the 2009 elections once again proved Films and Politics are two different battlegrounds. After Late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, it was only Chiranjeevi who had such a mass following. But Chiranjeevi’s political career is completely different.
But many experts feel that Chiranjeevi would have become the CM of Andhra Pradesh if not for that mistake. What mistake did Chiranjeevi do that affected his political career so badly?
It is the timing of the launch of his party. If Chiranjeevi would have launched the party before the 2004 elections, he would have had greater chances of winnings the elections. Or, if Chiranjeevi launched the party after the bifurcation of the state, he would have had a clean sweep in 2014 assembly elections.
But his decision to launch during the 2009 election fever was nothing short of going against the tide. It was at that time, YS Rajasekhar Reddy is trying his best to hold on to power, while former IAS Officer Jayaprakash Narayana came forward with Lok Satta. And most importantly the demand for ‘Telangana State’ has been at its peak. All these circumstances clearly affected Chiranjeevi’s political career in short.
The odds of Chiranjeevi becoming the CM would have been high if he had stepped into politics before the 2004 elections or the 2014 elections.
