After the daughter’s husband died on Monday from sickness, the mother and her eight-month-pregnant daughter committed suicide. In Vikram Nagar, close to the Ayyappa Temple in Nellore city, Bhanulatha, a 33-year-old pregnant lady, and her mother, T. Lakshmi, a 49-year-old, hung themselves on Tuesday night.
Bhanulatha and Sudhakar Reddy, a shopkeeper in Vikram Nagar and a resident of Bhagat Singh Colony, reportedly fell in love and were married. Sudhakar had children and was already marked.
When Sudhakar became ill on Monday and passed away, Bhanulatha was eight months pregnant. Bhanulatha was deeply affected by Sudhakar’s death. She could not bear life without her partner, she said in a note. She declared that she had made the difficult decision. Lakshmi, Bhanulatha’s mother, made the decision to take her own life.
On Tuesday night, the mother and daughter both hung themselves from the ceiling of their house.
After knowing of the suicide pact, the locals notified the Vedayapalem police. When P.V. Narayana, the circle inspector, came, he performed a quick assessment.
For an autopsy, the two bodies have been sent to the government hospital. An investigation has been started after a case was filed.
