Samantha never revealed she was fighting such a condition: ‘Yashoda’ co-star Unni Mukundan

Calling Samantha a dedicated and hardworking artiste, actor Unni Mukundan, who plays a doctor in Samantha’s upcoming film, ‘Yashoda’, says the actress never revealed that she was fighting a condition called Myositis while shooting for the film.

Sharing his experience of shooting with Samantha for the action-packed thriller, Unni Mukundan says, “Samantha is a very dedicated and hard working actress. She has prepared a lot for her role that includes the fights, action and emotional scenes.”

“She would interact well with other artistes on set. We discussed ideas on how we could improvise the action in a scene”, he adds.

In a recent post, Samantha revealed that she was suffering from an auto-immune condition called Myositis while filming ‘Yashoda’.

However, the dedicated actress didn’t let her ailment hamper her work and continued to shoot without informing anyone.

Says Unni Mukundan, “I didn’t know about it while we were shooting. Samantha was very professional. She never revealed that she was fighting such a condition. I felt sad after seeing Samantha’s post. She’ll fight Myositis and come back in good health.”

Marking Samantha’s first Hindi theatrical release, ‘Yashoda’, its makers claim, is the biggest pan-India female-centric film ever made in India. It is releasing across the nation in five languages – Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.

Mounted on a large scale with a lavish budget, the makers of ‘Yashoda’ had roped in acclaimed Hollywood action director Yannick Ben to choreograph the action sequences in the film.

Samantha plays a surrogate mother, unravelling the secrets of the medical world in the film. Sources say she has put forth a power-packed performance.

Besides Samantha, popular actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Unni Mukundan, Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Shatru, Madhurima, Kalpika Ganesh, Divya Sripada and Priyanka Sharma play crucial roles in the film.

Directed by Hari and Harish, ‘Yashoda’ has been produced by Sivalenka Krishna Prasad for Sridevi Movies and is set to release on November 11.

Eyes are a gift you should never take for granted, says Shilpa Shetty

Actress Shilpa Shetty, who is also an exponent of yoga, has urged her followers on social media to take good care of their eyes, pointing out that eyes are a gift that one should never take for granted.

Penning a detailed post about computer vision syndrome, which causes dryness and red eyes, she said, “I recently read somewhere that continuous exposure to screens causes dryness and red eye; now commonly called ‘computer vision syndrome’.

“This information really got me worried. While we cannot avoid technology, what we can do is take proper care of our eyes by retaining adequate moisture.

“Chalk out a few minutes during the day to practice the Eye Cleansing routine or the Netra Yoga. This routine helps improve vision. It also helps comfort or reduce digital eye strain, prevents eye dryness, and increases blood circulation towards the eye region, thereby improving concentration.

“Take care of your eyes, my dear Insta family, it’s a gift we should never take for granted.”

The actress also posted a video of how to do the Netra Yoga to reduce the stress on the eyes.

With a grand premiere of ‘Uunchai’, Anupam’s Actor Prepares celebrates Rajshri’s 75 yrs

“Cinema is a celebration. ‘Uunchai’ is hope,” says veteran star Anupam Kher as he sets about combining the two, preparing for a grand premiere of his latest film with Sooraj Barjatya, ‘Uunchai’ in association with his renowned acting school Actor Prepares.

The acclaimed actor began his friendship with director Sooraj Barjatya when the latter handed over Anupam’s script to him as the last AD of his first film ‘Saaransh’ 38 years ago at Rajshri office. Decades later, Anupam Kher returned the gesture by sportingly playing clapper boy to Sooraj Barjatya in ‘Uunchai’, celebrating his friendship with Sooraj.

Taking it forward, Anupam has organised Rajshri’s first ever independent premiere.

“Rajshri’s 75 years of cinema is in the same year as Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Rajshri is as old as free India. They have contributed immensely and are yet very humble and Sooraj is synonymous with clean entertainment goodness.”

Rishab Shetty promotes ‘Kantara’ at India Gate

Promoting the cultural movie ‘Kantara’ at the India Gate is started with director and actor Rishab Shetty and his actress Sapthami Gowda in the Delhi.

The power duo looked enchanting in white. Rishabh was seen wearing traditional south Indian outfit.

After winning hearts of millions in Kannada and Hindi versions, its box office collections are witnessing a constant rise.

‘Kantara’ Hindi market numbers have constantly been seeing a great jump in its box office collections with a total of 53.7 Cr till November 4.

Other than registering phenomenal growth at the box office, ‘Kantara’ also made its position at No. 1 in the list of India’s Current Top 250 Films which was released by IMDb recently.

Kantara was released in the Kannada version and Hindi version on September 30 and October 14 respectively.

‘Filmmaking not a simple job,’ says Laila after making a comeback in ‘Sardar’

Actress Laila, who made a comeback in cinema with director P. S. Mithran’s recently released superhit film ‘Sardar’, has shared on social media a behind-the-scenes video from the film in which she gets killed.

Laila, who plays a character that gets killed in the film, posted the video of a man forcing her head into a tank full of water, with her hands tied behind her back.

Sharing the video on Instagram, she wrote: “Special behind the scenes of ‘Sardar’. Film making is not a simple or easy job.”

Director P. S. Mithran does it with ease. Of course, director of photography George sets the mood with his lighting and special angles and effects. Stunt master Dhilip added the spice, but editor Ruban really made magic with his editing skills! Praveen Raja’s costumes were just all underwater. This is a very raw footage. Enjoy the Behind the Camera!”

Director Mithran himself reacted to the video and wrote: “And this was your Day 1.”

Laila responded with a laugh: “My sweetheart director insisted on doing this to me on Day 1 of the shoot.”

The film, which has gone on to become a superhit, will now have a sequel with Karthi playing a spy in the second part as well.

S.S. Arunachalam to direct Naga Shaurya’s next

Upcoming hero Naga Shaurya is to work with director S. S. Arunachalam on an action entertainer next.

Sources close to the unit said that Naga Shaurya is particular that his next set of movies are different from each other and that they must be commercially viable.

Under these circumstances, the makers of his 24th film have announced that the project is to be directed by S.S. Arunachalam.

The movie is tipped to be an action entertainer laced with fun, family and emotional aspects.

Srinivasa Rao Chintalapudi, Vijay Kumar Chintalapudi and Dr Ashok Kumar Chintalapudi are to produce this movie on a grand scale for the banner, Vaishnavi Films. Baby Advaitha and Bhavishya will present the movie.

Director S.S. Arunachalam has himself penned the story and screenplay of the movie and Naga Shaurya will play a role that is different from the characters he has played so far.

The actor will also be going for a makeover.

The yet-to-be-titled project is to go on floors soon. Sources said that while some well-known actors will be playing pivotal roles, top-notch technicians will be be roped in for the movie.

Abhishek Pathak explains why Akshaye was first choice for ‘Drishyam 2’

‘Drishyam 2’ director Abhishek Pathak has talked about how Akshaye Khanna was the perfect fit for the film.

Speaking about the character of Akshaye Khanna, the director of the film Abhishek Pathak expressed, “In Drishyam 2, we have Tabu and Ajay Devgn confronting each other and I wanted someone of that level or even beyond that. The entire character was designed keeping this in mind, we never thought that we would write it and then think of casting.”

“From the 1st day itself, when we started writing the Cop character – we had Akshaye in mind, his image and his personality. That made it very easy for us, as we knew what we would bring to the table. He was always the first option and my first thought for this character and we are very happy with it.”

Other than Akshaye Khanna, Ajay Devgn and Tabu, the film also stars Shriya Saran and Ishita Dutta in pivotal roles.

Directed by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam 2 is set to release theatrically on November 18.

Huma Qureshi faced rejection because of her weight

At a time when body-shaming and bullying is the easiest way to target an individual, Huma Qureshi is all set for the release of her upcoming film based on self-love and body positivity – ‘Double XL’.

The actress shares that she has faced body-shaming and has even got rejected for a film because of her weight.

In an interview with media, Huma shared how the story of ‘Double XL’ came to life.

“This movie started as a fun conversation with my friends and family-we were all in my living room, and all the actors were complaining about the ‘post lockdown weight gain’ and Mudassar Aziz wrote a story around it,” said Huma.

The 36-year-old actress revealed that director Satram Ramani asked her to gain weight for ‘Double XL’: “We were just eating and eating. It was just burger lao, pizza lao between action and cut.”

Asked how responsible is Bollywood for setting a bench mark for beauty standards, Huma blames the society for making people believe that a “certain weight is acceptable.”

Talking to media, the actress, who made her acting debut in 2012 with ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’, shared that she had been rejected because of her weight in the past.

Huma said: “I got rejected due to weight and in a review of my film, someone wrote, ‘Huma adds too much weight to be a mainstream leading lady’.”

She shared that she resonates with every woman who has been let down by their looks, size, or colour. The ‘Bell Bottom’ actress believes her movie ‘Double XL’ will change the mindset of society.

‘Double XL’ also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Zaheer Iqbal and Mahat Raghavendra. It is all set to release on November 4.

Akshay Kumar to play Chhatrapati Shivaji in ‘Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat’

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is collaborating with director Mahesh Manjrekar for a Marathi period drama titled ‘Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat’. The actor will essay the role of emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the film. This will be Akshay Kumar’s foray in the Marathi film industry.

Talking about the project, Akshay Kumar said in a statement: “It’s a dream come true role for me. I think to portray Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the big screen is a very huge responsibility. I was taken aback when Raj sir asked me to portray this role. Also, I will be working for the first time with Mahesh Manjrekar, and it is going to be an experience”.

The film, which is a dream project for actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar, is based on the story of the seven valiant warriors who had the sole aim of bringing Shivaji Maharaj’s dream of Swarajya to reality, writing one of the most glorious pages of history.

The film recently had its mahurat shot event in Mumbai, which was attended by the likes of Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde, political leader and MNS Chief Shri Raj Thakeray, Mahesh Manjrekar, producer Vaseem Qureshi and the starcast of the film.

Director Mahesh V. Manjrekar said in a statement: “‘Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat’ is my dream project, I have been working on it for the past 7 years, it is a subject that needs that much attention and research. It is by far the biggest and grandest Marathi film to be made and with its release India-wide, I want people to know the story of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the most powerful Hindu King.”

He further mentioned: “I am very fortunate to have Akshay Kumar on board to play the character of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, I believe he’s perfect for the role”.

The film also has an ensemble cast of Jay Dudhane, Utkarsha Shinde, Vishal Nikam, Virat Madke, Hardik Joshi, Satya, Akshay, Nawab Khan and Praveen Tarde.

Produced by Vaseem Qureshi, ‘Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat’, will soon start rolling its camera with its theatrical release date set for Diwali 2023. The film will be released in Marathi, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Chuffed with box-office success, ‘Sardar’ producer gifts director Mithran a car

With Karthi-starrer ‘Sardar’ going on to emerge a big hit, its producer Lakshman Kumar has presented director P. S. Mithran a brand new car.

Sources close to the unit of the film said that producer Lakshman Kumar, who is thoroughly pleased with the success of the film, has presented the film’s director P. S. Mithran a Toyota Fortuner.

The film, which released on October 21, has been doing exceptionally well in theatres. In fact, the resounding success of the film had recently prompted its makers to announce a sequel to the film.

The film, which had Karthi playing two characters with one of them being the role of a spy, also had a crucial socially relevant message on the significance of water.

Apart from Karthi, the film also featured Chunkey Pandey, Laila, Rajisha Vijayan and Raashi Khanna among others. Music for the film was scored by G. V. Prakash Kumar and cinematography was by George C. Williams.

In the sequel too, Karthi will be seen playing a spy with the action shifting to Cambodia.
