Disha opens up on giving a personal touch to her look in ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 2’

Actress Disha Parmar, seen as the female lead ‘Priya’ in ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 2’, seems quite excited about her outfit and is looking forward to the ‘sangeet ceremony’ sequence in the show.

Giving a sneak peek into ‘Priya’s look for the Sangeet, Disha opens up about how she has added her inputs when it came to ‘Priya’s overall look for the ceremony.

Seen in a simple yet elegant blue lehenga, ‘Priya Sood’ definitely looks beautiful. Talking more on it, Disha Parmar says: “Personal touch to the styling has been that I recently got married just two months ago and now, ‘Priya’ is getting married. So, the outfit that I wore in my sangeet was a royal blue colour. That’s what I wanted to wear in this show, also. And, that’s what we did.”

Adding further she says: “I remember for one of the events, I was wearing sneakers under my saree and that’s what ‘Priya’ has also done for one scene. She’s wearing white sneakers under her lehenga. So, these have been the little personal touches for the character ‘Priya’ by me.”

The ongoing track is now going to witness the wedding of ‘Ram’ (Nakuul Mehta) and ‘Priya’ (Disha Parmar).

‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 2’ airs on Sony Entertainment Television.

Durand Cup: FC Goa beat Delhi FC 5-1, storm into semis

FC Goa continued their brilliant run to outplay Delhi FC 5-1 in a quarter-final match of the 130th Durand Cup football tournament at the Kalyani stadium on Friday.

Goals from Devendra Murgaokar, Muhammed Nemil and Brandon Fernandez in the first half and Leander D’Cunha and Romario Jesuraj in the second, meant the Gaurs will, despite Delhi getting one back from Nikhil Mali, take their place in the second semi-final on Wednesday at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) in Kolkata.

They await the winners of Saturday’s fourth and final quarter-final match between fellow ISL side Bengaluru FC and Army Green, also scheduled at the VYBK.

Delhi FC started well in the first quarter creating quite a few opportunities for themselves. Anwar Ali and Willis Deon Plaza had their chances at scoring but failed to convert each time.

It was all FC Goa after that. In the 15th minute, Devendra Murgaokar scored the first goal and his fourth of the tournament to put the Gaurs ahead. Muhammed Nemil scored another, three minutes later.

Delhi FC had chances in the remaining part of the first half but it was good work from Goa’s defence that kept them at bay.

Brandon Fernandes then lobbed a curler from the left flank over Delhi keeper Lovepreet in added time, to give Goa a big cushion of 3 goals at half time.

Delhi FC looked like they came with a plan in the second half and showed some resilience initially but luck was not on their side. They did pull one back in the 82nd minutes with Nikhil Mali scored a smart goal after an even smarter Willis Plaza dummy inside the Goa box, spoiling the clean-sheet of Dheeraj under the Gaur’s bar.

It took Goa just a couple of minutes to regain the three goal cushion as Leander D’Cunha scored from an overhead kick which did not quite catch his foot where he would have liked it to.

Alexander Romario Jesuraj scored the fifth and final goal in injury time to seal the deal for FC Goa.

Leander D’Cunha was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match winning performance.

‘Palm Springs’: Made to appeal to those who love time loop-genre films

Film: ‘Palm Springs’ (Releasing in theatres)
Duration: 90 minutes
Director: Max Barbakow
Cast: Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti, J. K. Simmons, Peter Gallagher, Meredith Hagner, Camila Mendes, Tyler Hoechilin, Chris Pang, Jacqueline Obradors, June Squibb, Tongayi Chirisa and Dale Dickey.

Rating: ***

For the uninitiated, this film may initially appear as a stoner comedy, but a deeper look will make you realise that it is a sci-fiction romantic comedy where the protagonists are stuck in a time loop.

Most audiences who have seen films like ‘Groundhog Day’, ‘Naked’, ‘Deja vu’, ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’, or the Netflix series ‘Russian Doll’, will be familiar with the time loop concept. Director Max Barbakow’s ‘Palm Springs’ deserves to be added to this list of hallowed time loop films.

The film opens with the camera focusing on a Mountain Goat standing on the edge of the eponymous oasis, while it is being ripped open by a giant computer-generated earthquake, but the narrative doesn’t actually begin until the moment Nyles (Andy Samberg) opens his eyes.

He is the plus-one to his girlfriend Misty (Meredith Hagner) who has invited him along to an early-November wedding in Palm Springs. The day starts off with a quick sex session that suggests that Misty and Nyles are a mismatched couple who aren’t fit to reach the altar anytime soon.

During the course of the first act we are profoundly told, “Today, tomorrow, yesterday, all the days are the same”, “We are born lost and then we are found”, and “We are all f***king, alone.” It is these prophetic statements that wriggle their way into the psyche of the audience while watching the film.

It’s at the wedding reception of Sarah’s (Cristin Milioti) sister that Nyles makes himself comfortable at the ceremony, getting drunk at the bar and stepping in at the right moment to save Sarah from making a drunken toast which she’d be sure to regret later.

Sarah becomes smitten with Nyles and against her better judgement, follows him into a mysterious glowing cave that opened up during the earthquake we saw at the beginning of the film. Whoever enters the cave winds up cursed to relive November 9 forever. Thence Sarah too now trapped in that 24-hour loop with Nyles relives the wedding day again and again.

While the narrative with its delicate tone and swift pacing delights in orchestrating a series of absurd situations, such as picking fights, crashing into vehicles, and doing drugs. Such nihilism is more than just a comedic opportunity; it is a dramatic one as well.

On the performance front, everyone seems to be having a great time delivering their parts with unabashed ease.

While the film is visually bright and colourful, it is the aspect of the cave that is fuzzy. Also, the computer-generated images in the film are of mediocre quality that does not seamlessly merge with the live-action scenes.

The repetition of the scenes is a creative concept of the time-loop genre and it is also the most frustrating aspect of this genre. The plot dwells on building patterns and subverting expectations, allowing the creator an unparalleled opportunity to retell a story, pulling at the edges and getting to answer an assembly of “what if” situations. In this film, the repetitive scenes are also used as a metaphor for the drudgery of real life.

Overall, Palm Springs is a light romantic comedy that will appeal only to those who like time-loop genre films.
