Composer Vanraj Bhatia passes away, B’Town mourns loss

Music director Vanraj Bhatia passed away at his residence in the city on Friday. He was 93.

Bhatia rose to fame scoring music in an array of arthouse and middle-of-the-road films in the seventies and eighties, such as “Ankur”, “Manthan”, “Bhumika”, “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro”, “Mohan Joshi Haazir Ho!” and “36 Chowringhee Lane”, as well as TV shows “Wagle Ki Duniya” and “Banegi Apni Baat”. He was reportedly bedridden due to age-related issues. He had not been well for a while now.

The composer won the National Award for his music in Govind Nihalani’s acclaimed “Tamas” in 1988 and was a recipient of the Padma Shri in 2012.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta took to social media to mourn the loss. He wrote: “RIP Maestro.” while actor Farhan Akhtar wrote: “RIP #VanrajBhatia… apart from the many other brilliant musical works he created, I vividly remember the theme of ‘Tamas’ that started with a shriek so filled with anguish, it could send a chill up anyone’s spine and break anyone’s heart.”

Musician Ehsaan Noorani of the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio wrote: “Farewell Vanraj Bhatia one of India’s finest composers … was glad to have known you worked with you and been part of your music. There will not be another you.”

‘Ajeeb Daastaans’ actor Armaan Ralhan: After ‘Befikre’ debut I only had similar offers

Actor Armaan Ralhaan made his acting debut in the Ranveer Singh-Vaani Kapoor starrer “Befikre”, and was recently seen in the OTT anthology “Ajeeb Daastaans”. Armaan says he had a few offers after his debut film of 2016 but they were all similar to his “Befikre” role of Anay, an investment banker who is set to marry Vaani Kapoor’s character.

“What happened was that there were one or two films after ‘Befikre’ that were very similar to what I had done in the film. I wanted to do something that gave me an opportunity to show a different side of myself. There were one or two films that were supposed to happen but they got delayed or pushed and then finally Shashank Khaitan’s thing (refers to his segment of ‘Ajeeb Daastaans’) happened,” Armaan told IANS.

“Ajeeb Daastaans” is an anthology of four stories, and Armaan appears in the first segment, directed by Shashank Khaitan and co-starring Jaideep Ahlawat with Fatima Sana Shaikh.

“Ajeeb Daastaans was supposed to come out last year but because of the pandemic, everything got delayed. So, one extra year got added because of the pandemic. Things just worked out that way, but I do wish to reduce the gap and do more work,” he added.

Armaan says his constant effort is to look for variety in roles. “I got into the movies to play different characters. That is the fun — to play with people that are different from you. So, for me is to play someone who is not me, to me it is important to be versatile and do different kinds of roles,” he claimed.

“Sometimes you may play similar roles in your career but the idea is to keep changing and doing different things,” he summed up.

Arjun Bijlani: Want to keep trying new things

Actor Arjun Bijlani loves the romantic genre, but he confesses being more excited about trying out the action on screen lately.

The fact is not surprising, perhaps, considering Arjun flies off to Cape Town for the shoot of the stunt-based reality show “Khatron Ke Khiladi 11”, after featuring in the romantic music video “Mohabbat Phir ho jaayegi”.

“As much as I love the romance genre, it’s the action genre that has got me really kicked off late. I want to keep trying new things, stay ahead of time, and entertain my audiences with the best of my abilities,” Arjun asserted while speaking in an interview.

Vinit Kakar joins ‘RadhaKrishn’ as voice artiste for animated Garuda

Actor Vinit Kakar has joined the cast of the mythological television show “RadhaKrishn” as a voice artist who will feature as the voice of Garuda, an animated creation on the show as of now.

“I’m fortunate to get work during this time of crisis. Most importantly, the role doesn’t need me to travel or go for shoots that are happening at Umbergaon. I have joined the show as a voice artist. I can do my dubbing at home. It’s my first show as a voice artist,” he says.

The actor, who has been seen as Shishupal and Takshak in the same show, says that Garuda is a significant character.

“Garuda is the bird-like vehicle mount (vahana) of Lord Vishnu. In Hindu mythological stories, he has strong value. Garuda is described as the king of birds. As its kite-like figure and is shown either in zoomorphic form, as in a giant bird with partially open wings,” he says.

Vinit has earlier featured in shows like “Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush”, “Devi Adi Parashakti” and “Chandragupta Maurya”.

‘Dilbaro’ singer Vibha Saraf opens up on new track ‘I really like you’

Singer Vibha Saraf is out with her new song “I really like you”. The singer, who shot to fame singing “Dilbaro” in the Alia Bhatt-starrer “Raazi”, says her latest track has all the qualities of a college romance number.

“I really like you” has been composed by Ayaz Ismail, and Vibha says this is different from the work she has done before.

“I think it’s a simplistic composition plus I hadn’t attempted this genre before. I also had an additional role to play here, giving Ayaz’s composition a lyrical direction,” says Vibha, about penning the number.

She adds: “I think it has the elements of a no-nonsense-college song which is brimming with the excitement about newfound love, crush, love interest.”

Ayaz, who is based in Dallas, the US, says that the song has come out at the right time and will cheer people in India in these times of distress.

“As an artist, creativity flows at all times. Being an Indian overseas one can completely understand the situation back home. It’s devastating – rather, depressing — for everyone. The song was ready in March, and we were scheduled to release it in April. We did discuss with the team whether we should release it or not, and they gave us the green signal. The prime reason was positive, and something to cheer about in this chaotic situation,” he claims.

The song was released recently across all music streaming platforms.
