Priya Bapat: OTT is a big relief in pandemic

Actress Priya Bapat, who is gearing up for the release of the second season of web-series “City Of Dreams”, has hailed the digital space and calls it a big relief amid the pandemic.

Talking about how OTT plays a major role for films and series, Priya told IANS: “I think it is very important because one good thing that happened in the pandemic was that people had the option to watch stuff and entertain themselves with the OTT. We still don’t have many theatres that are open. OTT is a big relief.”

The actress is happy in contributing to the web-space.

“I am very happy that we are kind of contributing on that platform where people can watch good stuff, different kinds of content and the great thing about OTT is that it is for family as well as every individual,” she said.

The actress said that OTT gives the liberty to watch independently.

aceIf I don’t want to watch something with my family, I can sit in my room and watch independently. I don’t have to sit together or be in a crowd or with 100 or five people. I can just enjoy that entertainment for myself and OTT gives you that,” Priya added.

Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, “City Of Dreams” also stars Atul Kulkarni, Priya Bapat and Sachin Pilgaonkar. It will be released on Disney+Hotstar.

In the show, television actress Aishwarya Khare has been paired opposite actor Rohit Suchanti to play the lead characters.

“Her character is interesting and challenging at the same time, which is why I am eagerly looking forward to beginning my journey on this show. In fact, I am also extremely delighted to work alongside Aishwarya and Rohit who are super fun and really amazing co-actors. I just hope the audience also loves seeing me in this new version.”

Playing older character on-screen was fun: Gauahar Khan

Actress Gauahar Khan, who plays a pivotal role in her latest film “14 Phere”, says that it was a fun ride for her to portray an elderly funny lady on-screen.

Gauahar told IANS: “When the first brief came to me, I was asked if I am ok to play an older mummy ji on-screen and I was like ‘let me hear the story first’! When I heard the narration, I realised that she is a young actress from the Delhi theatre scene and playing an older character in a comic situation. So I found it rather entertaining, as well as challenging because in the film I played two characters. I must say, ‘Dilli ki Meryl Streep’ was so cool!!”

The story of the film revolves around Sanjay and Aditi, played by Vikrant Massey and Kriti Kharbanda, respectively, who plan to elope to get married as their families would not approve their inter-caste marriage.

Directed by Devanshu Singh, the film also stars Jameel Khan, Yamini Das, Vineet Kumar and Priyanshu Singh, among others.

’14 Phere’ is streaming on ZEE5.

If you feel the character, audience will feel it too: Muskan Bamne

Television actress Muskan Bamne, who is currently seen playing the role of Pakhi Shah in the daily soap “Anupamaa”, feels that actors should always give their 100 per cent to any character they play on-screen.

“I feel that whatever character is given to you, you should give it your all. You should give your 100 per cent to it. If you feel the character, the audience will feel it too,” Muskan tells IANS.

The actress, who has been part of TV shows like “Bakula Bua Ka Bhoot” and “Super Sisters”, picks the latter as her favourite.

“In Super Sisters, I played a Haryanvi girl. It revolved around two sisters who had magical super powers, which they used to help the common people. It is my favourite because I got to speak Haryanvi and my character was a little tomboyish too. It was fun doing it,” says Muskan.

Talking about her current show, Muskan revealed that she fell in love with the script of “Anupamaa” as soon as she heard it.

“The first thing I noticed in the script was that Pakhi is the youngest in the house. She is loving, caring and loves her dad and mom, but things change when Kavya comes into their life. She goes through a difficult time. I feel the character graph is just amazing as it allows me to explore so many different emotions,” she says.

Pranitha Subhash is missing big screen big time

Actress Pranitha Subhash, who features in the film “Hungama 2”, is missing the big screen.

“I’m both nervous and excited because everything starting from the genre to the audience is new for me,” Pranitha told IANS sharing her experience about working in a Hindi film.

Quizzed if she is missing the big screen, the actress replied: “Absolutely, because as actors, especially in the South we are so used to the big screen, the hullabaloo, the firecrackers and the madness! I am going to definitely miss all that.”

With a film releasing digitally, the opening weekend box-office pressure is not there.

Is that a slight relief?

“Actually yes. But then, I think it would have been great if it was released in the theatres at least for a little while like how recent films have been, and then probably bringing it to the OTT, that would have been something I would like,” the actress suggested.

A popular name in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films, Pranitha is a working in Bollywood for the first time, what differences does she observe from the South?

“It’s been wonderful. In terms of work, it is almost the same, does not feel like anything different. The work culture, the timings I’ve always heard people telling me how different and stuff like that, but I personally found everything the same. You can’t tell any difference between the working style of a South film and a Hindi film,” the actress replied.

“But yes, what is different is the language. All my life I’ve spoken very bad Hindi but now suddenly you’re speaking very good Hindi,” she quipped.

“So I’ve tried to polish my Hindi. Secondly, we are catering to a much (more) universal audience because, for example, I’ve had friends in Bengaluru, my old classmates who have only watched Hindi films all their life,” she added.

With two Hindi films of her releasing this year, does the actress plan to shift to Hindi cinema?

“Yes, I would love to work more in Bollywood. I would definitely try to balance between Bollywood and South because South has given me everything that I am till date, so I would love to continue working there,” Pranitha said.

Asked about her character in the latest Hindi film “Hungama 2”, Pranitha teased saying: “I play a very easy going girl next door who gets into… well you’ll only know that when you watch the film!”

Directed by Priyadarshan, “Hungama 2” streams on Disney+ Hotstar. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Johny Lever, Meezaan Jafri and Rajpal Yadav in key roles.

Raima Sen: Unfair to blame an actor for project’s failure

Actress Raima Sen says it is unfair to blame an actor for a project’s failure because it is teamwork and everyone is responsible.

Raima, whose recent work includes the web-series “The Last Hour”, says everything boils down to teamwork.

“We don’t know how it will be shot. We just read a script we want to do the role but the rest of it is not really up to us. Of Course, we can have a bit of a say but it is teamwork. You can’t just blame even the director or anyone individually for that matter,” the actress said.

Raima, who is the daughter of veteran star Moon Moon Sen added: “The audiences keep evolving so it depends on the audience what they will like and what they don’t. Some films which are shown are ahead of their times, they wouldn’t do well now, probably they will do well later.”

Instagram tests new feature to curb targeted harassment

With an aim to curb targeted harassment, Facebook-owned Instagram is now testing a new feature called “Limits”.

The new feature will allow users to lock their accounts and limit any potential interactions when they feel they’re the target of harassment.

“Racism and hate speech has no place on Instagram,” Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, was quoted as saying by Engadget on Thursday.

In trying to curb harassment on the platform, Mosseri said Instagram plans to try to reduce hate speech to “as close to zero as we possibly can”.

However, knowing that it will likely be impossible to completely eradicate all forms of racism from the app, the company also plans to give people new tools that will allow them “to take some power back”.

That’s where ‘Limits’ fits in, the report said.

“We know that people sometimes are in temporary moments of real risk and pain, and we need to give them tools to protect,” Mosseri said of the feature.

Ahead of wide rollout, Instagram is currently testing Limits in select countries across the world.

In the meantime, Mosseri promised the company would have more to share on how it plans to tackle racism on Instagram in the coming months.

Eijaz Khan on ‘Bigg Boss’ going digital: It’s a sensible thing to do

Actor Eijaz Khan, who is gearing up for the release of the second season of web-series “City Of Dreams”, says it is sensible to stream the controversial reality show “Bigg Boss” on OTT.

Talking about “Bigg Boss” going digital, Eijaz, who was a contestant of “Bigg Boss 14”, hosted by superstar Salman Khan, told IANS: “I think it is a sensible thing to do. Everyone’s on it.”

He adds: “When I went for Eid celebrations to my brother’s place yesterday (Thursday) for a bit, there was a social media table at the dining table. There were six people sitting on their phones seeing what they wanted to see and gathering information about something and the OTT platforms make it more personal.”

The actor, who found his lady love Pavitra Punia on the show, added: “You do not go on a community television at home and see a show… It’s not like that anymore. So, it (OTT) is personal and everything has to move. A show like Bigg Boss which sometimes has mature content should come on OTT and it is a good thing.”
