Bigg Boss 14: Sidharth Shukla’s shadow continues looming large on show

The shadow of Sidharth Shukla simply looms large in the house of Bigg Boss 14, long after his departure. Whenever, whoever needs to add extra spice to their action, they invoke his name in an argument to grab the audience by the eyeballs.

The latest instance is Nikki Tamboli and Devoleena Bhattacharjee. A catfight they engaged in became interesting only when Sidharth’s name cropped up.

Nikki, who seems to have lost the plot lately, and Devoleena Bhattacharjee, who has stepped in as a proxy for contestant Eijaz Khan, bared their claws and had a massive showdown in the recent episode. Name-calling to using bizarre words followed. Nikki and Devoleena were seen yelling at each other, during a task when the former stepped inside and sat in the house to give points to the opposite team, as she wanted to support her friend Rubina Dilaik.

The fight got worse as Devoleena made comments about Nikki that she was using Rubina and Abhinav because the couple has lots of fans outside. On hearing this, Nikki said that she is at least better than Devoleena because she doesn’t accuse people of MeToo.

For those who came in late, last year during the 13th season, Devoleena had threatened to accuse television actor Sidharth Shukla of inappropriate behavior if he touched her amid a task.

As a “toofani senior” in the house, Sidharth hugged the limelight and was also the centerpiece of all tasks, duties, and housemates this season. In fact, he ended up being more of a star than the housemates of the current season.

The first eviction, Punjabi singer Sara Gurpal, had Sidharth’s influence in a big way. The outcome drew heavy criticism on social media.

A task involving only Sidharth and all girls of the house took all viewers by surprise. Titled as “Sid Island”, the task required the girls in the house to woo Sidharth. From making tattoos to close dancing, the actor became the center of attraction.

He also had a favorite in the 14th season — Nikki Tamboli.

Sidharth may not be in the show currently but his presence is still made felt, as some contestants use his name to better their prospects in the games.

Priyanka Chopra: Nobody made opportunities for me in the West

When Priyanka Chopra Jonas started her journey in the West, there was no one to facilitate her entry into Hollywood with adequate opportunities. That is something she wants to change, with the power to create stories. Now that she has turned producer, the actress says she wants to help in the normalization of South Asian people through stories as a producer.

“I don’t put myself in a box. I am very organic with what I feel. I am doing a comedy with Mindy Kaling, which is probably one of the first few romantic comedies in Hollywood that you will see with an all-South Asian star cast. I don’t remember the last time that has happened. So that’s something very exciting. It was my quest,” Priyanka told IANS while opening about the road she wants to get on as a producer.

“When I started working there, nobody made opportunities for me. In fact, opportunities for people who are South Asian and look like us are very limited in Hollywood. I wanted to be able to be the kind of producer that creates that,” she added.

The actress continued: “I’m (also) doing a reality show, which is going to have couples from all ethnicities, all religions, celebrating a Sangeet. To take an Indian tradition and open it out to the world and have them understand, this is what I’m doing.”

It was in 2015 that the actress founded her production company, Purple Pebble Pictures, and started backing films in Hindi, Marathi, Sikkimese, and Punjabi, some of which even won National Film Awards.

Now, she is going global thanks to the OTT power. She sealed a two-year multimillion-dollar, first-look television deal with the global streaming platform Amazon. She backed the horror film “Evil Eye”, and is also producing the drama “Sheela” in which she will appear as Ma Anand Sheela. Priyanka has also executive-produced “The White Tiger” for Netflix.

“I’m taking the India that I know, the India that I have grown up in, and sort of creating things where there is a normalization of seeing South Asian people in entertainment. In my little way, I’m trying to do as much of that as I can,” said the actress, who is married to pop star Nick Jonas.

For Priyanka, it all started at the age of 17 when she was crowned Miss World. She soon stepped into the world of Bollywood in 2003 with “The Hero: Love Story Of A Spy”.

Bollywood entertainers like “Fashion”, “7 Khoon Maaf”, “Barfi!”, “Mary Kom”, “Don”, and “Aitraaz” cemented her position in the industry. But it wasn’t always a smooth ride. There were also the likes of “Bluffmaster!”, “Salaam-E-Ishq”, “God Tussi Great Ho”, “Drona”, and “What’s Your Raashee?”.

She explored the world of music with singles like “In my city” and “Exotic” and walked into the US television space as FBI agent Alex Parrish in “Quantico”. She made her Hollywood debut as a villain in “Baywatch”.

“When I came into the movies, I didn’t even know I could act. I was a 12th standard girl who suddenly became Miss World. And then suddenly, I was thrown into the movies. I didn’t have the privilege of going to film school or understanding what cinema was,” she said while looking back at her journey.

“I was pushed into it, and then I realized that this is actually a job. That this is not just trying to look pretty, hair, makeup, and going onto the set. That it is a craft, you can hone it, you can create characters — and there’s a massive responsibility to that. That is when I started getting excited about the movies, but never in my wildest dreams, would I have seen having a 20-year career the way I’ve had,” she said.

Especially when she was told that she just had 10 years to work.

“In fact, at that time, I was told that women have a shelf life… jaldi-jaldi jitna bhi bhi kaam Karna hai, do it. Imagine 10 years if you’re lucky. Sitting here, 20 years later, I feel like my ambition has only grown,” she said.

Her work slate reflects that.

Priyanka is currently seen in the film adaptation of “The White Tiger”, which released on Netflix on January 22. She recently completed work on “Text For You”, developing an untitled comedy with Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor, and also has roles in Russo Brothers’ “Citadel” and “The Matrix 4”.

“So far, I feel unfinished. I have a lot to do. I don’t know what that is. But I just (want to) keep walking in that direction,” said the 38-year-old.

Elizabeth Olsen: Shooting in front of live audience nerve wracking

Hollywood star Elizabeth Olsen says shooting in front of a live audience really messed with her brain. Olsen along with Paul Bettany shot the first episode of their web series, WandaVision, in front of a live studio audience.

“It was so nerve-wracking, and there was a lot of adrenaline. There were a lot of quick changes and it totally confused my brain,” Olsen said while recalling the experience.

“It really messed with my brain — the idea of not playing to an audience but feeding off an audience and having a camera. I was really grateful when we added the wall for our second episode,” she added.

The Marvel Studios series brings back Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Bettany as Vision. In the show, the two superheroes are trying to adapt to their suburban lives as a married couple.

Asked how she would describe the show, the actress said: “I believe from Wanda’s point of view, she would describe the show as a family sitcom of two people trying to fit in, and not be discovered for being different.”

The series, directed by Matt Shakman, streams on Disney+ Hotstar Premium.

Sayani says she had ‘super fun’ working on ‘Shameless’

Actress Sayani Gupta says she had fun working on the short film Shameless, co-starring Hussain Dalal and directed by Keith Gomes. The trailer of the film is out now.

“The shoot was short but fabulous. Hussain and I have a long-standing friendship and have great chemistry. So it was super fun to do improvisations and play off each other. Keith is very gentle as a director and really takes care of his actors and crew. It was super fun to collaborate, and we’ve all come a long way together with this film,” said Sayani.

“The trailer release has been amazing. So much buzz and an incredible amount of support for the film from our friends in the industry. It feels unreal and extremely beautiful,” she added.

Shameless is a 15-minute dark comedy thriller, which touches upon the fact that people are losing human connection and becoming rude and isolated due to social media and technology.

“With all the hate and anger that is going around, the world needs kindness and my films are a reminder that being kind is actually easy. I hope ‘Shameless’ makes an impact in that respect,” said Gomes.

Varun Dhawan’s wardrobe for Jan 24 wedding designed by Kunal Rawal?

Speculations have been flying left, right, and center about GenNow Bollywood star Varun Dhawan’s rumored upcoming wedding with childhood sweetheart Natasha Dalal. Amid whispers that the wedding could take place on January 24 in Alibagh, it has now come to light that designer Kunal Rawal might style the actor’s wedding wardrobe.

While Rawal designs the groom’s attire, designer Manish Malhotra is apparently the man behind the Dhawan family’s look for the function.

A source said: “The guests will start leaving for Alibaugh in a day or two. The accommodation for guests has been done in villas. Kunal Rawal is doing Varun’s clothes while Manish Malhotra is designing Dhawan family’s look.”

According to sources around 200 to 250 guests have been invited to the wedding, although the number would seem dubious in the time of Covid restrictions.

Unconfirmed reports doing the rounds of media have said that the wedding will be a three-day affair, from January 22 to 24, and will be conducted as per Hindi Rituals.
