Arjun Reddy Creates Sensation In Telugu Film Industry

2017’s release Arjun Reddy created a sensation in the history of Telugu Cinema. It is credited as the most successful film in Telugu Film history given its cast, crew, and budget. The film went on to attain the status of ‘cult’ film within days of its release. Given its hard-hitting, raw, intense emotions and pure content, the movie came as a lightning surprise to the bored Telugu audience. On the contrary, few media outlets, and jealous film circles claimed that the explicit and adult scenes in the movie are responsible for its humongous success. 

Once again the truth is out. The film premiered on the TV on January 21st. What’s more shocking is that the film generated a TRP rating of 13.6. Though the explicit and adult content has been trimmed off, owing to the rules and regulations, the film still had its impact on the small screen without those elements.

From an outset, Arjun Reddy might seem like any other love story themed films. But the way the director chose to represent it on the screen, is what made it a big hit. The lead pair’s performance, Vijay Devarakonda in particular, was hailed by the audience. This once again proves the fact that ‘Content is the King’!

It was during the 1980’s. The whole nation is engulfed in Indira Gandhi’s charisma. Many hailed her as the most powerful woman in the history of India. While other termed her as ‘power hungry’ scavenger. Despite her humongous stature, it was NTR who stood in her way. The man of the masses, the man who took the pride of every Telugites to the New Delhi, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, played a monumental role in setting up a third front at the center. During the 1984 political events in Andhra Pradesh, where NTR was backstabbed, everyone knew the mass following NTR commanded at that time. Consequently, people also know who was behind the Nadendla Bhaskar Rao episode. Neither the Congress nor Indira herself dared to own the episode.

But times have changed since then. Both the legendary leaders, NTR and Indira Gandhi are no more. But they will be brought back to life, thanks to Balakrishna’s ‘NTR’ biopic movie. The film unit is currently looking after yesteryear glamour queen Vijayashanti and Nadiya.

Close sources to the production unit revealed that the film unit is in a fix. As of now, director Teja is yet to come to a conclusion of how to project the character of Indira Gandhi in the movie. Will her character be pro-NTR? Or anti-NTR? Or neutral? Whatever it might be, upon the film’s release, controversies are bound to follow. NTR might have been standing tall against Indira Gandhi in real life, but on screen, it is turning out to be a herculean task for Teja.

A normal woman is usually the victims of sexually abused/harassed when compared to celebrities. But the recent incidents don’t hint that way. Recently, Tamil heroine Amala Paul has been sexually harassed at her workplace. Even before that incident is gone to dust, yet another case of sexual harassment on a heroine came to light.

Malayalam heroine Sanusha is the victim in the latest incident. Sanusha is famous for her role in the (dubbed) movie ‘Renigunta’. While the Malayalam actress was travelling in a train Kannur to Thiruvananthapuram, the actress has been sexually harassed. The incident took place while Sanusha was fast asleep. ‘I was asleep due to tiredness. A man tried to rape me. I immediately got alert, and complained to the TT’, said Sanusha. The case has been registered and the railway police are probing into the incident.

Meanwhile, social activists and many women welfare organizations came in support of the heroine. They called for improved security measures, especially for women in the trains. The Railway Police authorities have taken the case as a challenge, and are leaving no stone unturned to find the culprit.

Mega Prince Varun Tej’s Tholi Prema’s official theatrical trailer has been out today. Let us have a quick review of this most awaited romantic love drama.

Varun after a hit like Fidaa has teamed up with a new maker Venki Atluri for yet another love story. Despite some unwanted criticism from some movie buffs, Varun went ahead knowing that love stories are his cup of tea. After impressing with a soothing teaser, the makers made the movie lovers wait eagerly for the theatrical trailer. The trailer which was released today appeared as emotional as ever in Varun’s career. The maker took the point of haunting memories of both good and bad. The trailer reveals the main plot in which Varun falls in love with Raashi Khanna at the very first sight in a railway station when they are teenagers. The memories of their first love story haunt them throughout their life. The rest of the story is all about whether they get together finally or departed permanently.

Venki passed with distinction in maintaining the feel along with some comedy in the trailer. George C Williams photography and Thaman’s background music are at their best as each visual appeared refreshing. Varun and Raashi’s expressions are true to the core as they reflect love and emotions through their expressions. On a whole, the theatrical trailer did raise many expectations on the movie.

This movie is bankrolled by big producer BVSN Prasad with a medium budget. He is planning to release this movie on 8th of February without any competition.

Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja had an excellent outing with his last movie ‘Raja the Great’. His latest film ‘Touch Chesi Chudu’ hit the theatres today. Right from the film promos, Touch Chesi Chudu was promoted as an out-and-out action entertainer with family melodrama. Even the trailer promised the same. The movie is directed by debutante Vikram Sirikonda, dialogue writer of hit films like Racegurram and Mirapakay. Let us take a look whether the audiences are touched by Touch Chesi Chudu!

Story:

Karthikeya (Ravi Teja) is a businessman living with his family in Pondicherry. With his marriage on cards, he gets to meet Pushpa (Raashi Khanna). They both fall in love with each other. Karthikeya’s sister watches a murder. This episode leads us into a flashback. Karthikeya is a sincere, honest and duty-minded police officer.

Divya (Seerat Kapoor), Suhasini’s daughter and Karthikeya get engaged. Unfortunately, Divya is killed by Irfan. Karthikeya faces suspension in the hands of DGP (Murali Sharma) and ends up as a businessman in Pondicherry. Why was Karthikeya suspended? Who is Irfan? Did Karthikeya nab the villain finally? What happened to Raashi Khanna?

Analysis:

The debutante director Vikram Sirikonda ends up weaving a routine commercial flick. One can find over a dozen films in the past decade that sport a similar storyline to that of Touch Chesi Chudu. The story is wafer thin, and shallow. Despite turning 50 (recently), Ravi Teja still carries phenomenal energy and screen presence. He has excelled in his roles as a police officer and as well as a family man. But the director clearly fails to utilize the power of Mass Maharaja.

Meanwhile, Raashi Khanna is good for her role, and the lady did not hesitate to flaunt her assets. Similarly, Seerat did flaunt her assets whenever required in the second half. The item number on Ravi Teja and Seerat fail to impress the audience.

Ravi Teja comedy brings some laughs here and there. Murali Sharma as DGP is a watch out in the film. Freddy Daruwala looks handsome and stylish as the villain.

The production values aren’t that great, except for a couple of songs. The screenplay can be boring for the most of the time. The dialogues are good and commendable. Ravi Teja’s Touch Chesi Chudu has all the elements, only that none of them are new and exciting.

The BGM from Mani Sharma stands tall in elevating the hero’s image, especially during his outing as a police officer, and during action sequences. Songs by JAM8 are good. Two songs are chartbusters, while others remain as regular fillers. The cinematography from Chota K Naidu is good. Coupled with action scenes, routine comedy, and age-old emotions, Touch Chesi Chudu is a clear letdown.

Ravi Teja and Rajamouli are good friends for a long time. But recently, rumours are rife that the senior actor will be playing a villain role in the upcoming multistarrer of Ram Charan and NTR under the direction of Rajamouli. Firstly, he rubbished the rumors as fake. Speaking to his fans on Twitter, about his upcoming film Touch Chesi Chudu, mass maharaja stated the audience not to overthink on the topic and also commented that is not a bad idea.

One of the chatter, who happens to be a mega fan, asked when he will act with megastar Chiranjeevi. Ravi said, he will definitely do it, if a script and offer come his way which suits him. Also reacting to working with Puri Jagannath the kick actor replied ‘very soon’.

We all know, Ravi Teja had lent his voice to a plant in the upcoming Nani’s debut Production, Awe! Talking a little more about it, Ravi shared that Nani is a close friend of him and he felt his voice would do justice to the character and hence he did voice over.

He also added that he is keen to do a multistarrer. Interestingly to a question asked by a fan about when he will bankroll a project, Ravi Teja gave a prompt but simple one line reply saying that, I am an actor, not a producer.

From the very first day, Chalo team has been promoting the film as a family entertainer. Megastar Chiranjeevi’s presence at the Chalo Pre-release event definitely boosted the film’s overseas market. Being an own production, the commercial success of Chalo can motivate the actor to come up with different movies. For Naga Shourya who is yet to prove big on the silver screen, Chalo is likely to be the turning point in his career.

Story:

Hari (Naga Shourya) is a happy-go-lucky guy who finds fun in quarrels and fights. Fed up with his behaviour, Hari’s parents push him off to a college in Tirippuram, a village in the Andhra – Tamil Nadu border. The village is known for its raging battles between two regional groups. In his college, he falls in love with Karthika (Rashmika). While Hari is a Telugite, Karthika is a Tamilian. On understanding the circumstances, Hari realizes that he is in for big trouble. Why are the two groups fighting against each other? What happens to the couple’s love? Will Hari be able to convince Karthika’s family? Watch it on the big screen to find the answers.

Analysis:

Naga Shourya lives up to his expectations in Chalo. The newbie Rashmika carries her good work from Sandalwood into Tollywood. Though the story has little to offer, the way it has been handled makes the film watching worthwhile. The director has taken extreme care in designing each character in the film. Casting requires a special appreciation.

It’s nice to see a college back-drop story after a long time. Chalo comes as a fresh breather from the regular and over-hyped heavy masala entertainers. Chalo is carefully crafted artwork from the director. The movie doesn’t lose its fun-theme throughout its runtime. Despite a couple of scenes, the movie is lively and engaging for the most part. Venky Kudumula shines in the writing and script department. The animosity between the two groups and Naga Shourya’s college life are filled with fun, and entertaining.  Sudarshan, Satya and Viva Harsha are successful in bringing some laughs in the first half. Vennela Kishore with his trademark timing steals the show in the second half (comedy).

It shouldn’t be surprising if you feel the story is quite shallow. Nowhere, you fell that the film is a low-budget venture. Impressive production values and good cinematography result in good visuals on the screen. Mahati, son of Mani Sharma, is good with his BGM and a couple of songs. He is a talent to watch out for. Rest of the supporting cast did their job decently.
