Riney Aryaa: Getting vaccinated is ‘a national duty’

Actress Riney Aryaa, who recently got her first Covid vaccination jab, feels getting the shot is a national duty.

“There are many baseless rumours about the vaccination in our country. We shouldn’t pay attention to them and get ourselves vaccinated. It should be counted as a national duty. In fact it will help us to get back our lost freedom from Covid-19 virus,” Riney tells IANS.

The actress says that while she is otherwise afraid of needles, she knew that getting vaccinated is important.

“I’m usually scared of injections but I was quite sure to get myself vaccinated. Finally I got my first jab done and it was not that painful. I see a hope of getting the old normal back. I feel everyone of us should move forward and get vaccinated,” she says.

Riney plays Goddess Lakshmi in the mythological series “Vighnaharta Ganesh”. She earlier featured in shows such as “Suvreen Guggal: Topper Of The Year”, “Emotional Atyachaar” and “Kulfi Kumar Bajewala”.

Arjun Kapoor: I don’t have a dream role

Actor Arjun Kapoor doesn’t have a dream role because he feels the perception towards roles evolves with time and age.

“I don’t really have a dream role as such because it evolves with age, with time it keeps changing, the way you look at things, the way you look at roles, the way you look at life, everything evolves. It is unfair to say one dream role but definitely, there are thoughts in my mind about certain genres and certain spaces that excite me, but not any particular role,” Arjun told IANS.

With the nation under the grip of the second wave of Covid-19 and lockdown almost everywhere, what has been keeping the actor busy at home?

“The lockdown has happened for a second time. I was in the middle of a shoot in April-end when we returned from Goa. It’s been almost two months. It’s never easy to be at home suddenly but I try to use my time by sleeping, working out, catching up on movies and shows, whatever you can manage to do at home. Taking it easy for a few days,” he replied.

On the work front, Arjun features on the cooking show “Star Vs Food”. However, the actor, who loves to eat, doesn’t seem too fond of cooking!

“It was an amazing experience to be able to go out and cook something special for my family, cook something that I have grown up having. At the same time, you can spend time in the kitchen where you kind of learn what you like doing and what you don’t like doing. I definitely don’t like cooking to this degree but the experience made it memorable,” Arjun said.

He added: “I have never had an interest in cooking per se but during Ki and Ka, Mr. Balki (the film’s director) made me go into a kitchen and learn with a chef. I managed to cultivate a basic understanding of what it means to be in the kitchen. As a kid I never had so much of a love for cooking, it was always more for food,” the actor replied.

“Of course, I admire all the television shows that show people cooking because there is something very poetic and artistic about it. I don’t consider it any less of art to be able to serve great food and make people happy. The smell of food can invigorate positive emotions,” he added.

What is it that Arjun cooks the best? “Eggs. I think that’s the most basic thing I can cook. I have learned pasta and scrambled eggs,” revealed the actor.

Any dish from his mother’s kitchen that was his favorite? “My mom was never a cook, my dad is a cook. Her recipes are secrets which we only get to eat,” he concluded with a smile.

“Star Vs Food ” airs on the Discovery+ channel.

Shaan: I avoid songs with regressive or negative connotations

For singer Shaan, the positive impact that music creates on listeners is important. It is a reason he avoids songs with regressive or negative connotations.

“Music has always been a stressbuster, a companion in your various moods and situations. Listening to good music that is sonically soothing is very important. Music that is jarring in its sound and content can be very harmful. It induces negativity and aggression into your subconscious. I stay away from songs that have regressive or negative connotations,” Shaan said.

Talking about the responsibility of a musician to heal people with their music amid the ongoing depressing times of the pandemic, the singer further said: “I would definitely want my music to have a positive influence on my listeners. I try to keep a subtle message in my songs while entertaining the audience. It is also important that I update my music to suit the youth, in terms of sound, lyrics and composition. And while I have ventured into various genres, I make sure not to cross the line. After all, it is a social and moral responsibility of a singer to bring positive change through music.”

Shaan’s latest single “Tera hissa hoon”, which talks about father-son bond, was recently released on the occasion of Father’s Day and has already crossed a million views on YouTube.

“I had written and composed Tera hissa hoon a few months ago but released it on Father’s Day since it went with the thought of the song. I felt this emotion needs to be addressed. Aged parents don’t deserve to be abandoned or neglected. They must be given priority by their children. Don’t wait till it’s too late,” he said.

The video features Shaan alongside his younger son Shubh.

Opening up on why the decision to cast his son in the video, the singer shared: “Since Shubh was playing the younger me, there couldn’t be a better cast since he looks so much like me. What was pleasantly surprising was that he is a better actor too! Very natural and understated. He would always get it right in his take.”

Are his sons Soham and Shubh planning to take up music professionally following their father’s footsteps?”

Both my sons Soham and Shubh are musically inclined. Soham has already produced and released a hip hop, RnB album (Citimall) and quite a few singles with young artistes. He is studying music at USC in LA. Shubh enjoys Bollywood music and is training hard to be an ace singer,” Shaan informed.

“I’m very happy with their progress but don’t intend to interfere in the process. They need to find their own space and create their own identity,” he suggested.

Filmmaker Deepshikha Deshmukh, who has tied up ‘Recycle Man’ Binish Desai to make sustainable sets, says that seeing the wastage on sets bothered her.

The sets of her productions “Coolie No. 1” and upcoming Akshay Kumar starrer “Bellbottom” have been made with the help of Binish.

She adds: “This is why I reached out to Dr. Binish as he works on industrial waste recycling and management. He is the perfect person to guide us about the various ways we can recycle and upcycle all of our production waste. Be it the construction material that is used to build structures on sets, PPE kits and masks or even the sediments of tea and coffee left behind in cups, he will help us go green on all our projects.”

Commenting on working in a film set-up, Binish says: “Together we can initiate a sustainability revolution in the film industry. For the first time, I am consulting a film production house on such a big scale. Deepshikha really cares about the environment and her vision and commitment to sustainability is commendable. Saroj Khan biopic announced on her first death anniversary

A biography of Saroj Khan was been announced on Saturday, which marks the first death anniversary of the late choreographer.

The film will bring to life the story of the struggle and success of Khan, widely acknowledged as India’s first female choreographer. Details about the film are yet to be officially announced.

“My mother was loved and respected by the entire industry but we have closely seen her struggle and fight to become who she was. We hope with this biopic, will be able to tell her story, her love for us, her passion for dancing, and her fondness for her actors and respect to the profession with this biopic,” said Sukaina Khan, daughter of the late choreographer.

Added her son Raju Khan, who is also a Bollywood choreographer: “My mother loved dancing and we all saw how she dedicated her life towards that. I am glad I followed in her footsteps. My mother was loved and respected by the industry and it is an honor for us, her family, that the world can see her story.”

Saroj Khan passed away on July 3 last year at the age of 71 due to cardiac arrest.

Born Nirmala Kishanchand Sadhu Singh Nagpal, her father advised her to change her name to Saroj Khan so that her orthodox family wouldn’t get to know that their daughter was working in films. She started her career as a child artist at the age of three with the film “Nazarana” as baby Shyama. She became a dancer at the age of 10 and an assistant choreographer at 12.

Khan started out choreographing with the 1974 film, “Geeta Mera Naam “. She directed songs for the Tamil film “Thai Veedu” in 1983 and also worked in Subhash Ghai’s superhit “Hero” the same year. She became a household name in the mid to late eighties, directing memorable dances for Sridevi and then Madhuri Dixit, the reigning superstars of the era.

It was the 1986 film, “Nagina” made her a household name. Sridevi’s iconic dance “Main naagin tu sapera” in that film continues to be popular today. Her choreography for Sridevi the next year in “Mr. India”, particularly the song “Hawaa hawaai” became equally popular.

Khan had also directed some of Madhuri Dixit’s most iconic dance hits including “Ek do teen” (“Tezaab”), “Choli Ke peechhey” (“Khalnayak”), “Dhak dhak” (“Beta”), and “Maar daala” (“Devdas”).

Among her major assignments is choreographing for Aishwarya Rai in “Taal” (1999) and “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” (1999).

Her last assignments include choreographing Kangana Ranaut in “Manikarnika” (2019) and “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” in 2015.

Her last major work was directing Madhuri’s moves in the 2019 release “Kalank”.

In recent years, Khan became a popular face on television as a judge on dance shows such as “Naach Baliye” and “Jhalak Dikhla Ja”.

In 2012, Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT) had produced a documentary film on Saroj Khan’s life directed by Nidhi Tuli.

Khan choreographed around 3500 songs in her career span and is a three-time National Award winner.

Rights to produce the biopic have been acquired by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. “Saroj Ji’s journey that started as early as a three-year-old was met with a lot of ups and downs. The success and respect she gained from the industry have to be brought to life. I remember visiting film sets with my father and seeing her bring life to songs with her choreography. Her dedication towards the art was commendable. I am glad Sukaina and Raju agreed to let us make this biopic of her mother,” said Kumar.

The filmmaker landed in the Capital on Friday and wasn’t pleased to see the lack of facilities.

The official Twitter handle of Delhi International airport replied to Rajamouli’s tweet: “Dear Mr. Rajamouli, thank you for your valuable feedback and this provides us the opportunity for improvement. We have desks at the designated areas for RT-PCR-related purposes; however, increased number of desks and visibility at other locations will improve the experience on arrival and our team is looking into this on an urgent basis.”
