Certain romantic sequences in Peddi, starring Ram Charan, recently sparked strong criticism, particularly from women and online audiences. Many viewers said the scenes were uncomfortable to watch, pointing to moments where the male lead forcefully kisses the female character and to portions that appeared to overly sexualize Janhvi Kapoor’s role.
Responding to the backlash, the film’s makers have edited out the disputed scenes. Director Buchi Babu Sana addressed the issue on X, offering a public apology.
In his statement, Buchi Babu said that cinema should entertain and connect without making anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. He acknowledged the feedback on Peddi, emphasized his respect for women both on and off screen, and clarified that there was never any intention to objectify or demean a female character. He added that if any part of the film was perceived that way, the team fully respects those sentiments and sincerely apologizes.
He further explained that, after reviewing audience reactions, the team decided to modify the concerned portions. Highlighting the responsibility of storytellers, Buchi Babu noted that cinema evolves through its bond with viewers and must remain sensitive to changing perspectives. He reaffirmed a commitment to portraying women with dignity and to crafting stories that celebrate strong, respectful characters, while thanking audiences for sharing their views openly and honestly.
