Balakrishna has done it again with ‘Akhanda’ trailer

The theatrical trailer of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s ‘Akhanda’ has now become the talk of the town as it was released on Sunday evening.

The movie has been an attention grabber, ever since it was announced. Boyapati Srinu’s direction and Balayya’s acting prowess have come in for praise from Nandamuri fans.

The ‘Akhanda’ trailer promises to be an out-and-out mass entertainer with Balakrishna’s perkiness as a mass fighter. Showcasing the two variations of Balakrishna’s role, the trailer launches all main characters from the movie ‘Akhanda’.

A modern get-up Balakrishna who is completely in contrast with his other ‘Aghora’ role in the movie impress his fans. But, it appears director Boyapati Srinu has used the routine ‘senseless mass’ formula in this movie.

Though Boypati and Balakrishna make a very good team, it seems like the audience is not ready for age-old, senseless aspects which remain boring. While the theatrical trailer of ‘Akhanda’ establishes a good impression of Balakrishna’s role, it doesn’t convince the audience enough.

On the other hand, Balakrishna is being praised for his dedication and makeover in ‘Akhanda’. Balakrishna has a strong line-up, which includes a movie with Gopichand Mallineni and other ace filmmakers. Balakrishna’s celebrity talk show ‘Unstoppable with NBK’ is also running successfully.

MAA president Vishnu maintains strategic silence over issue of ticket prices

The Telugu film industry is facing problems regarding the cinema ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh.

While a leading production house like DVV Entertainments came out openly on the ticket price issue in Andhra Pradesh, there is no reaction from any biggies of Tollywood.

The Andhra Pradesh government has come up with slashing of ticket prices, which has become hit the pandemic-hit Industry, which is suffering heavy losses already. Though stars like Pawan Kalyan came forward to address the issues, it only caused more damage, as the issue was ignored by the industry biggies.

Movie Artists Association’s president Manchu Vishnu, who promised to resolve all the issues, has kept mum on the ticket price issues. While the Manchus made much noise during MAA elections, their strategic silence regarding such a big problem has irked many of the industry heads.

Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce had issued a note that they do not have any issues regarding the prices of movie tickets, earlier when Pawan had raised his voice against the government.

Now that biggies like ‘RRR’, ‘Radhe Shyam’, ‘Bheemla Nayak’, and ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ are prepping up to hit the screens, the industry is slowly coming to grips with the problems.

The ticket pricing issue has become a headache for traders, theatre owners, distributors and producers, which needs an immediate resolution.

PMK forces Suriya film out of TN theatre

The stand-off between the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and actor Suriya over the issue of the latter’s film ‘Jai Bhim’ allegedly insulting the Vanniyar community escalated on Sunday when a group of PMK cadres forced a theatre in Mayiladuthurai district to stop screening a Suriya film.

Sources said that a group of PMK cadres raised slogans outside the Peerless theatre on Park Avenue Road that was screening ‘Vel’, a Suriya film. The theatre management pulled out the film that was being screened.

The group, led by PMK’s Mayiladuthurai district secretary Panneerselvam, also submitted a petition to Mayiladuthurai Superintendent of Police, demanding action against Suriya.

Speaking to reporters, Pannerselvam, who said that the PMK would not allow any Suriya film to be screened in Mayiladuthurai, went on to announce a reward of Rs one lakh to anybody who assaults the actor when he visits the district.

Only days ago, a war of words had erupted between PMK chief Anbumani Ramadoss, who wrote a letter to Suriya, levelling allegations and demanding answers. Suriya had on Thursday neatly responded in kind, politely but firmly denying allegations and replying to all the questions asked.

“It is our personal choice. Suppose I say, I am interested to have a baby soon, then the media will go gaga over that. On contrary, if I say I am not yet ready, that news will also become viral. ‘Bigg Boss 15’: Umar, Pratik get into ugly fight over kitchen duties

Every contestant inside the house is fighting with each other to enter the ‘VIP club. In addition to this, one more argument broke out between Pratik Sehajpal and Umar Riaz.

While Umar is the captain of the house, he assigns different kitchen duties to the contestants that involve cooking, chopping, cleaning dishes among other duties.

As he denies any task to Pratik, the two end up getting into a fight.

Pratik raises questions on the captaincy of Umar and in turn Umar calls him ‘bawarchi’ (cook) and tells him to go and cook food. Though both of them have friendly relations, this fight seems to make them bitter.

Umar tells Pratik not to poke his nose in every matter and even asks him to clean the washroom.

Umar starts abusing Pratik and the fight turns physical as both are not ready to calm down. Later housemates come to stop them from fighting with each other.

‘Pushpaka Vimanam’ opens to low occupancy

Anand Deverakonda and Geeth Saini-starrer ‘Pushpaka Vimanam’ hit the screens on Friday and it failed to grab the audiences to the theatres.

Anand Deverakonda, who dared to do a role like ‘Chittilanka Sundar’, needs to be appreciated.

Dark comedy-themed ‘Pushpaka Vimanam’ poses Anand in the role of a recently married government school teacher, who tries to cover up the fact that his wife has eloped. The more he tries to cover the fact, the more cornered he finds himself, which caters to both comedy and drama genres. Other actors like Sunil, VK Naresh justified their roles well.

While the technicalities come into the context, Director Damodara needs to be appreciated for the subtleness in the narrative. Coming to the music, multiple music directors, with Mark K Robin acing the BGM game. Sidharth Sadasivuni-composed ‘Aaha’ is sung by Kailash Kher, while Sid Sriram-crooned ‘Kalyanam’ is composed by Ram Miriyala.

The visuals are just fine, with decent camera work.

Though it appears like editing could have been better here and there, it is passable. ‘Pushpaka Vimanam’ surprises the audience with a sudden genre shift. Though the story leads to a mystery, the comedy quotient is kept alive through the characters played in the movie.

Despite grabbing all the hype through the teaser, trailer, and other promos, the reports suggest that the theatrical occupancy has been poor. Some analysts believe that the movie would have gotten much response if released on the OTT platform, rather than a theatrical release.

Suriya responds to Ramadoss, says ‘Jai Bhim’ doesn’t target any group

Tamil star Suriya, who is also the producer of the critically acclaimed film ‘Jai Bhim’, on Thursday clarified that neither he, nor his film unit had any intention of insulting any individual or community as alleged by PMK leader and former Union health minister, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss.

Responding to the series of questions posed by the PMK leader on ‘Jai Bhim’, Suriya said in a statement: “The core concept of ‘Jai Bhim’ is how, in a case argued by the retired Justice Chandru, a legal struggle was waged against the authorities to help establish justice. We have also attempted to talk about the problems that indigenous people face in their everyday lives.”

Refuting the allegation that the unit of ‘Jai Bhim’ had insulted a particular community in a planned manner, Suriya said: “Neither my team, nor I have ever harboured any intention at any point in time to insult any individual or community as mentioned by you in your letter. I hope you are aware that corrections were carried out as soon as some people pointed out mistakes.”

The statement was addressed to Dr Ramadoss, whose party represents primarily the Vanniyar community.

Stating that he was in complete agreement with Dr Ramadoss’s statement that the right to insult any community had not been given to anyone under the garb of creative freedom, Suriya said,”In the same spirit, I believe you too will accept that creative freedom must be protected from threats.”

Explaining that a film wasn’t a documentary, Suriya pointed out that the ‘Jai Bhim’ unit had put out a disclaimer right at the start of the movie, saying that this was a story that had only been inspired by a real incident and that the characters, names and events were entirely fictional.

“When people who are not interested in the welfare of the poor gain authority, they tend to behave in exactly the same manner, irrespective of their caste, religion, language or region,” Suriya said, and added that there were plenty of examples for this all over the world.

“Through this film, we have raised questions against authority. I request you to not confine it to politics over names,” Surya said. The actor, who’s popular in Tamil Nadu for the work his Agaram Foundation has been doing among the less privileged children, said he was continuing to do what he could to help fellow human beings.

Pointing out that he had the unconditional support and love of all kinds of people from all over the country, the actor said he did not have the need to insult anybody for the sake of publicity.

He signed off saying, “Let us all continue in our respective paths for equality and brotherhood to grow.”
