Big B on ‘eerie’ Diwali at ‘Jalsa’: ‘Room full of family, each lost in their own world’

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan revealed that this year Diwali was much quieter as he gave a glimpse of the night at his home ‘Jalsa’.

Amitabh celebrated Diwali with his wife Jaya Bachchan, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, son Abhishek Bachchan, daughter Shweta Nanda and grandchildren Aaradhya Bachchan and Agastya Nanda.

The icon seemed missing the fun and frolic of Diwali, going by his post on his blog.

He wrote: “The gaiety, the fun and frolic of the past…the celebration of this festive day…friends and well wishers at Jalsa and the night of light and brightness…in the diyas of hope and prosperity.”

“It has been deafeningly silent for a Diwali night .. no or hardly any sound of fire crackers…perhaps a GOI ruling against it, but even so an eerie silence about…and a room full of family and each in his or her own world of the mobile,” he added.

“What has the rapid communication done to us…destroyed memory, remembering…an answer to all on the net and a depletion of the mind and the brain to face up to the challenges, for public consumption and beyond…”

Talking about the impact of the pandemic on normal life, Amitabh added: “So much has changed in these past two years…destruction yes but invention too…and the ingenuity of the human species…much has been said and written about it…a reprieve then…’tis not so sweet now as it was before.”

On the work front, Amitabh will next be seen in ‘Jhund’ , ‘Uunchai’, ‘Brahmastra’, ‘Mayday’, and ‘Good Bye’.

Ami Trivedi opens up on playing a mother in ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’

Actress Ami Trivedi, who plays the character of a mother ‘Manjari’ in ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, feels privileged to be part of a show that’s been on since 2009. She talks about her role and how challenging it is.

“I feel privileged and it is my pleasure to be a part of ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’. The show is a legacy. It has proved itself by being one of the longest-running shows on Indian television, and it’s great to be a part of it,” she said about the show. She was seen in the daily soaps like ‘Kumkum Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan’, ‘Kituu Sab Janti Hai’, ‘Papad Pol’ and many others.

She calls her character a very loving and doting mom. “She is a very dutiful wife also and is one of the underachievers in a family of achievers. But she is very happy and content with the way she is. She enjoys keeping her family happy, managing the house and she really loves her son,” she said.

For her, as an actor, it was a challenge to reprise a role that she has not portrayed before. “I’m pretty excited to portray this character because she is a mother. I have been only doing comedy in the past few years of my life, so this is a completely different genre for me. At the same time, it is a character that I have not portrayed on television in a very long time,” she said. She is a mother off-screen too, so now she relates to the love quotient which a mother has for her child.”

“I also know where the mom makes sacrifices and why she happily and selflessly does so. There are many qualities about my character which I can relate to now. She is a character which is also related to the masses because I’m sure there are a lot of children who will probably see their mother in this character and a lot of women will identify with the pain or the love or the suffering or the sacrifices or the pleasures that this character experiences,” concluded Ami.

Fortunate are those who really truly know you.”

She added: “Thank you for making everything brighter and more beautiful Oh , and Happy Birthday cuteness !”

Mrunal Jain: ‘Sooryavanshi’ is the biggest break of my career

‘Uttaran’ actor Mrunal Jain has been on the small screen for quite some time, but he considers the Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Sooryavanshi’, which is releasing on Friday, November 5, to be the biggest break of his career.

“It is this year’s most anticipated film and it is finally releasing after being on hold for a year and half,” Mrunal told in interview. “If this film works, the entertainment industry and movie theatres will be back in action. The audiences can now watch it on the big screen. I am definitely looking forward to the film and I hope people notice my work,” he added.

“For the past three years, I have been getting calls only for negative roles only,” Mrunal continued. “In ‘Sooryavanshi’, too, I get to play the antagonist. It’s interesting that with my kind of positive face, I am going to play the antagonist. As an actor, I feel I’ve always been positive and played the protagonist. In the last film I also did a negative role, so I think I’m actually getting tied down to antagonistic roles. I’m exploring this side of me,” added the actor who is known for ‘Hitler Didi’, ‘Bandini’ and other television shows.

For the film, which is primarily the star vehicle of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, with Ajay Devgn and Ranvir Singh putting in cameos, Mrunal shot in Hyderabad, Ooty and Mumbai. “So, three different locations in the year 2019. And of course, all the superstars were there,” he said.

Every moment on the sets was interesting for him. “It was a completely new experience for me to be in a Rohit Shetty movie. It was like a dream. I was actually living in my dreamland. Every moment, every shot, every scene was a learning experience,” Mrunal said.

“I was seeing the way the actors are dedicated to their craft, giving their best to each scene. It was interesting to see how they perceived their scenes, their characters. I have internalised the learnings and kept them with me,” Mrunal added.

He has a long list of the kind of films he wants to do, but he is reconciled to the fact that “my life and my career keep surprising me with different kinds of roles.” He added: “I am now leaving it up to each day as it comes. I’m definitely not restricting myself to a few roles. I’m exploring whatever comes to me. I’m trying to see new dimensions in each role and how my career will be shaped by that role. I just want to go with the flow.”

Shubhangi Atre speaks on importance of National Housewife’s Day

Actress Shubhangi Atre shares her perspective on National Housewife’s Day that is observed on November 3. The day is celebrated to honour those mothers and housewives who stay at home and take care of their family.

Shubhangi who is known for her role of ‘Angoori bhabhi’ in the show ‘Bhabi ji Ghar Par Hain’ and ‘Kasturi Chawla’ in ‘Kasturi’ opens up about the relevance of this day and how much responsibilities a homemaker has to carry to run the family.

She says: “I feel housewife is not an identity, it is an emotion. When a girl gets married to a man she becomes responsible for the house. And no doubt whatever the financial condition is she rules it like a queen, and the house is her kingdom. There is a myth that working women are not good housewives. But I am working myself; I feel equally responsible towards my house, my duties. I cook for my family; I care to check if everything is proper, clean, and available in my house. I feel equally devoted.”

She further says that even working women can perform their duties well professionally as well as personally.

“A large section of people have this misconception that a married girl can only be a good housewife if she is not working and dedicating them completely by taking care of household work. But I don’t agree with that. A working woman is also a housewife as she responsibly handles her house as she handles her work,” she adds.

“When people say once you become a housewife your career is over I feel amazed. I am somebody who got married and became a housewife and then later started my career as an actress. Fortunately, the success I am enjoying is all because of what I got to learn as a housewife. With these, I would just like to add that housewives deserve to be celebrated every day,” she concludes.

Lockdown was blessing in disguise for Abhimanyu in ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’

The whole world stopped back in the first quarter of 2020. As the pandemic ravaged the world, India too went into a nationwide lockdown. This affected many film productions that were either underway or were about to start. The soon to release film ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ too hit a roadblock as the film’s unit had to be called back.

One would think that the lockdown toppled the production schedule of the film and its budgets but, in hindsight it helped the team to get a more solid grip on the film. Abhimanyu Dassani, who plays the titular role of Sundareshwar in the film, spoke with IANS and revealed how the lockdown gave them the time to reflect and set a new perspective.

The actor said, “We had intense readings before we started shooting for the film. The film was actually supposed to be shot before the first lockdown. Half of the people (from the film’s unit) had left Bombay to shoot for the first schedule but they were called back because the lockdown was happening.”

“So, we got enough time during the lockdown to understand the characters and live with them for a while, which in this day and age is tough to do because we’re moving on from one project to another. Getting enough time to live with the characters, empathise with them, and understand them”, he concluded.

Directed by debutant Vivek Soni, ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ also stars Sanya Malhotra and will be available to stream on Netflix from November 5.
