Bhavana Studios has officially unveiled its next production, Picnic, a family-oriented comedy drama that marks the directorial debut of writer Kiran Josey. The filmmaker previously co-wrote the successful Malayalam films Premalu and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, and will now take charge behind the camera for his first feature.
The film is being produced by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran under the Bhavana Studios banner. Following his writing contributions to two well-received projects, Kiran Josey is now set to present a story that combines family emotions, humour and entertainment.
Picnic features an ensemble cast led by Sandeep Pradeep, alongside Indrajith Sukumaran and Dileesh Pothan in prominent roles. Sujina Sreedharan and Akshatha Ajith are also part of the cast. The film is being positioned as a wholesome entertainer designed to appeal to audiences across different age groups.
The first-look poster offers a colourful introduction to the film’s world, showcasing characters from different generations against a scenic backdrop of green hills and flower-filled landscapes. The vibrant visual hints at the light-hearted family atmosphere while keeping the plot under wraps.
National Award-winning composer Govind Vasantha, known for his work in films such as 96 and Sathyam Sundaram, is composing the music for Picnic.
The film is set to have a simultaneous release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, giving it a broad South Indian theatrical presence. Picnic is scheduled to arrive worldwide on January 14, 2027, during the Sankranthi festive season.
In another significant development, production and distribution house Showing Business has partnered with the film for its Telugu theatrical release. The company had previously brought Premalu to Telugu audiences, where it emerged as a major success.
With an interesting cast, a promising creative team and a festive release window, Picnic has already generated curiosity. More details about the project are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
