Priyanka Chopra attainted the status of ‘international star’ thanks to her stint in Hollywood. The Bollywood beauty is famous for her hike in remuneration. With name and fame, comes troubles and worries! The same happened in the case of Priyanka Chopra. The IT sleuths asked the star heroine to pay her taxes due.
The actress did not pay her income taxes from past four years regarding few things ladled as ‘gifts’. After the IT officials questioned about her tax payments, on a luxury watch worth Rs. 40 lakhs, and a Toyota Prius car worth Rs. 27 lakhs. She termed them as ‘gifts’ in her IT returns. On questioning, Priyanka Chopra mentioned that those possessions are given as gifts by their respective manufacturers out of affection and love.
The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) on hearing the issue, sent a strong message to Priyanka Chopra. The ITAT Judge said, ‘the companies are nothing but a representation of artificial persons. There is nothing no emotional feeling like love or affection. Priyanka Chopra has to pay the taxes due on those gifts.’This comes as a shocker to Priyanka Chopra, who thought she could evade by labeling them as gifts.
