The Energetic Star has delivered a birthday surprise that rippled across the film fraternity. Ram Pothineni announced his directorial debut with his 23rd film, tentatively titled RAPO23, marking a bold new chapter in his creative journey. Fresh off praise for his lyricist and singer stint in Andhra King Taluka, the multi-hyphenate now takes the helm as filmmaker.
Billed as a sleek psychological action thriller, a genre seldom explored in Telugu cinema, the film is produced by Krishna Pothineni under the newly launched Rapo Cinematics banner. With this move, Ram joins the distinguished lineage of stars who transitioned to direction, including Sr. NTR, Krishna, and Pawan Kalyan.
The announcement poster introduces Veera, Ram’s character, through a moody, hard-edged visual. Clad in a leather jacket with a sharp modern cut, he stands against a cold, crime-soaked cityscape. A bold crimson “V” looms large, evoking rebellion and danger. The tagline, “The Story of a Lone Wolf,” teases a solitary hero navigating a complex psychological terrain.
Conceived by Ram himself, the project reportedly involves a significant transformation to present Veera in an all-new avatar. The intense tone and arresting imagery have already ignited buzz, making this one of his most discussed looks to date.
Regular shooting is set to commence in June, with a December theatrical release on the cards. While the birthday reveal has stoked massive anticipation, details about the supporting cast and technical team are expected soon. By all signs, RAPO23 is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious and keenly awaited ventures of Ram Pothineni’s career.
