Brisbane Heat have signed all-rounder Jack Wildermuth for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (BBL)

Wildermuth made his debut for the Heat in 2016-17 in BBL 6, playing in the Heat’s semi-final team, before switching to the Melbourne Renegades for the next edition. He was a member of their BBL 8 championship squad, playing 10 matches, and was again with the Marvel Stadium based team last summer.

The 27-year-old will link with former Melbourne teammate Tom Cooper on the club’s books for BBL 10 and will be out to add to his career total of nine matches for the Heat, which included the 2016-17 BBL semi-final.

Brisbane coach Darren Lehmann said he was excited about Wildermuth’s return to the team.

“I know that there some good reports on the national side of things around his efforts on the Zimbabwe tour and Australia ‘A’ quad series in India the same year when he produced some match-winning efforts,” Lehmann said.

“Jack has heaps of potential with bat and ball and we see a lot of upside to him coming back into the Heat set-up.”

The 10th BBL edition is scheduled to start on December 3.

Mouni Roy: I am getting used to new normal

Actress Mouni Roy, who will soon be seen in the digital film, London Confidential, opposite Purab Kohli, says that lockdown taught her some of the greatest lessons in life.

The actress, who is currently in Dubai, told IANS: “I realized a few things during lockdown that we otherwise never get a chance to sit down and analyze. I have understood that, in reality, we need very little to feel happy because happiness is there in the small things of life. At times we just gather a lot of stuff in our house for no reason. In normal life, we tend to engage ourselves in many things that are otherwise irrelevant! If we want, we actually can stay away from such things!”

“I have also realized that as human beings we will come across different emotions like anger and being upset, but it is also very easy to drop these negative emotions if we work on these. If we practice meditation and yoga, and not just read thought-provoking books but apply those thoughts in life. We can get rid of negative emotions. Looking at the bigger picture, we do not even know what actually we are running after! It is like an endless goal, but we do not know where it is heading!” she said.

The actress shot her new film with Purab in London just after the process of unlocking started.

While the cast and crew of the film maintained social distancing, Mouni said initially there was a sense of tension on the set.

“There were several rules. We were using disinfectants time and again. Only one department could be present at the set. We were following all of it but in the beginning, there was tension because obviously we have never been used to such rules on a set. Eventually, all these became normal. Since I have left Mumbai, I have done seven swab tests! But again, this is part of the new set of rules. I am getting used to the new normal,” shared the actress.

“London Confidential” is directed by Kanwal Sethi and produced by Mohit Chhabra and Ajay Rai.

The story by S. Hussain Zaidi revolves around the search of people from China who are involved in the spread of a virus.

On her character, Mouni said: “Uma, my character who is an R&AW official facing a challenge and racing against time to find the important evidence and a mole in her team. There is a backdrop of the pandemic, and of how she cracks the information of another upcoming virus that can create another pandemic situation.”

The film also features Kulraj Randhawa, Sagar Arya, and Diljohn Singh among others, and is slated to stream on Zee5.

NASA shares $28bn plan to return humans to Moon in 2024

0

NASA has shared an update on its Artemis programme, including the latest plans to land the first woman and the next man on the surface of the Moon in 2024 at a cost of nearly $28 billion.

However, according to NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, meeting the tight deadline set by the Donald Trump administration would depend a lot on Congress approving $3.2 billion quickly for the development of human-rated lunar landers, according to a report in Spaceflight Now on Monday.

NASA had earlier proposed a plan to return humans to Moon by 2028.

In the 18 months since NASA accepted the “bold” challenge to accelerate its exploration plans by more than four years and establish sustainable exploration by the end of the decade, the agency has continued to gain momentum toward sending humans to the Moon again for the first time since the last Apollo lunar mission in 1972.

“With bipartisan support from Congress, our 21st-century push to the Moon is well within America’s reach,” said Bridenstine.

“As we’ve solidified more of our exploration plans in recent months, we’ve continued to refine our budget and architecture. We’re going back to the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and inspiration for a new generation of explorers.”

The NASA Administrator said that the agency is also building momentum “toward those first human steps on the Red Planet.”

The agency’s powerful new rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS), and the Orion spacecraft are closer than ever to their first integrated launch, NASA said.

The spacecraft is complete while the core stage and its attached four engines are undergoing a final series of tests that will culminate in a critical hot fire test this autumn.

Following a successful hot-fire test, the core stage will be shipped to the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida for integration with the spacecraft.

NASA will launch an SLS and an Orion together on two flight tests around the Moon to check performance, life support, and communication capabilities.

The first mission — known as Artemis I — is on track for 2021 without astronauts, and Artemis II will fly with the crew in 2023.

While preparing for and carrying out these flight test missions, NASA already will be back on the Moon robotically – using commercial delivery services to send dozens of new scientific investigations and technology demonstrations to the Moon twice per year beginning in 2021.

In 2024, Artemis III will be humanity’s return to the surface of the Moon – landing the first astronauts on the lunar South Pole.

After launching on SLS, astronauts will travel about 240,000 miles to lunar orbit aboard Orion, at which point they will directly board one of the new commercial human landing systems, or dock to the Gateway to inspect it and gather supplies before boarding the landing system for their expedition to the surface.

The Gateway will be an outpost orbiting the Moon that provides vital support for a sustainable, long-term human return to the lunar surface, as well as a staging point for deep space exploration.

Wearing modern spacesuits that allow for greater flexibility and movement than those of their Apollo predecessors, astronauts will collect samples and conduct a range of science experiments over the course of nearly seven days.

Using the lander, they will return to lunar orbit before ultimately heading home to Earth aboard Orion, NASA said.

PM Modi comes in defence of Harivansh, shares letter to Prez

0

After openly coming in support of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared a letter written to President Ram Nath Kovind by the Deputy Chairman over the Upper House ruckus issue.

“I read the letter written to the Honourable President by Honourable Harivansh ji. Every word of the letter has given new faith in our belief in democracy. This letter is inspiring and praiseworthy. There are truth and sensitivity in it. My request is, all citizens must read it,” said the Prime Minister.

In the said letter, the Deputy Chairman has listed the “violence” and “intimidation” by a few Rajya Sabha members. He stressed he was born in the village of JP, whose social reform call changed India’s polity in the past. He also mentioned how the ruckus has affected him.

The Deputy Chairman quoted Dinkar and said he would observe a day’s fast against Sunday’s ruckus by a few opposition members in the Upper House.

Earlier Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Everyone saw 2 days ago how he was humiliated, attacked in the temple of democracy, and then the same people sat on a dharna against him. But you will enjoy that today, Harivansh ji made the same people drink tea from his house in the morning.”

The eight suspended MPs, who created a ruckus, had been sitting on a dharna in the Parliament House premises since Monday. The protest was later called off.

Was nice to be under so much pressure in the first game: Rabada

0

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, who produced a sensational performance in the Super Over to help Delhi Capitals defeat Kings XI Punjab, has stated that “it was nice to be under so much pressure in the first game”.

On Sunday, Rabada restricted Kings XI Punjab to just two runs in the Super Over which was chased down by Delhi Capitals without any hiccups to register a win in their opening match of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

With Marcus Stoinis proving to be vital in the back-end of both the innings, Delhi Capitals managed to take the game into the Super Over, and Rabada was quick to credit his teammate for the win.

“I think it was incredible batting by Stoinis. He played an unbelievable inning towards the end to get us to a respectable total, and I thought Shreyas (Iyer) and Rishabh (Pant) batted extremely well together to get us out of that hole early on,” said the South African.

“What a day Stoinis had – he bowled two full tosses and got two wickets so it was his day. And from there, I think we took our opportunity to win that game,” he added.

Having stepped up to deliver in the Super Over, the 25-year-old conceded two runs off the first ball with his delivery drifting onto KL Rahul’s legs. However, the South African came back to pick up the Indian opener’s wicket by following him down the leg side and forcing him into an awkward position to play the pull shot, which eventually found Axar Patel’s hands.

“You don’t plan anything. I don’t plan to win, but instead, I plan to execute to win, and I think I managed to do that well in the Super Over,” Rabada commented on how he approached the six deliveries.

The pacer then managed to strike again as he took apart Nicholas Pooran’s off stump to wrap up the innings in just three balls. “That’s just the way a game of cricket goes. Honestly, it was a big relief because I knew if I did that, and with the kind of batters we have, three runs to win, we could do that. I was just very relieved that I took the wicket and could help the team in winning,” expressed Rabada.

Delhi Capitals will next face Chennai Super Kings on Friday and Rabada hopes the top-order, which failed against Kings XI, would get back to form and would click.

“Unfortunately our top order couldn’t do it this time, but we know all of them are quality players and will click in the upcoming games. So, you know, happy for the win but there’s still a long way to go in this tournament.”

This new model may speed drug discovery for Covid-19

0

Researchers have developed a new tool that mimics how SARS-CoV-2 — the virus that causes Covid-19 — infects a cell, information that could potentially speed the search for treatments against the disease.

The tool is a fluorescent nanoparticle probe that uses the spike protein on the surface of SARS-CoV-2 to bind to cells and trigger the process that pulls the virus into the cell.

According to the study, published in the journal ACS Nano, the probe could be used in tests to rapidly gauge the ability of biologics, drugs, and compounds to block the actual virus from infecting human cells.

“Our goal is to create a screening system to find compounds that block SARS-CoV-2 from binding to cells and infecting them,” said study author Kirill Gorshkov from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) in the US.

To create the probe, scientists built a fluorescent nanoparticle called a quantum dot, fashioned from cadmium and selenium. At around 10 nanometers in size, these spherical nanoparticles are 3,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair.

The research team then studded the quantum dots’ surfaces with a section of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein that binds to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor on human cells. The union of the spike protein with ACE2 is the first step in the pathway to viral infection. The glow from the quantum dots allows scientists to track the dots’ behavior under a microscope.

“Because they’re such bright fluorescent objects, the quantum dots give us a powerful system to track viral attachment and effects on the cell in real-time,” explained Gorshkov.

The investigators tracked how the quantum dot probes interacted with human cells that have ACE2 on their surfaces. They watched the nanoparticle probes attach to ACE2, which combined with the probes and pulled them into the cells. The quantum dot probes did the same in a lung cell line commonly used in coronavirus assays.

Safety data showed that the probes were not toxic to the test cells at the concentrations and exposure times used in the study. The quantum dots followed the SARS-CoV-2 pathway into cells, but the research team found the probes also mimicked the virus in the presence of antibodies.

Antibodies are proteins made by the immune system that can neutralize viruses such as SARS-CoV-2. The antibodies proved to be potent inhibitors of the quantum dot probes as well, preventing them from binding to ACE2 and entering human cells, the researchers said.

That antibody response means the quantum dot probes could help researchers rapidly test the ability of potential therapeutic agents to block the virus from entering and infecting cells.

0

China-based smartphone maker OnePlus has now uploaded its Messages app on Google Play Store.

The app is not currently available as a public release. However, users will soon be able to receive their OnePlus Messages update from the Google Play Store, reports XDA Developers.

The description of the app says that it would allow for categorizations of messages, which means messages that have to do with transactions, promotions, and OTPs all have categories and not lumped up together.

Another new feature that is mentioned is the ability to easily copy OTPs when you receive them. A tab that says “Copy OTP” will appear alongside “Mark as read” when you receive a message containing an OTP.

OnePlus has previously uploaded some of its OnePlus apps to the Google Play Store, such as OnePlus Weather and OnePlus Notes.

Meanwhile, the company recently announced to globally unveil its new flagship device OnePlus 8T 5G on October 14.

The upcoming OnePlus 8T 5G will feature a range of new and improved technologies that will elevate the OnePlus experience to new heights.

Apple accelerating mini-LED displays adoption for MacBook, iPads

0

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in his latest investors note has claimed that Apple will boost the adoption of mini-LED technology thanks to increased competition among suppliers for mini-LED chips.

It was previously believed that Epistar was going to be an exclusive supplier for mini-LED chips to Apple in 2021, but with “Sanan Optoelectronics’ pace of development being better than expected, it will now also supply Apple with mini-LED chips next year instead of in 2022”, reports MacRumors.

“Micro-LED has the double advantage of offering less power consumption than the current Apple Watch screens, and of being thinner, too,” the report said on Monday. It also offers a faster update rate and a wider viewing angle.

The main barrier to adoption is the micro-LED manufacturing process, which is complicated.

The increased supply capacity and competition among suppliers will reportedly drive Apple’s cost for mini-LED display dies from $75–$85 down to around $45.

For 2021, Kuo is expecting 30-40 percent of the total iPads to ship with a mini-LED display and 20-30 percent of the total MacBook shipments.

Earlier, Apple was granted a patent for Fitness Band that may use micro-LED, but there’s no confirmation if the company is actually planning to enter that segment.

Apple could use the MicroLED display panel for the seventh-generation Apple Watch.

According to reports, Apple is investing around $330 million in the Taiwan-based company for a micro-LED factory that will manufacture displays for future iPhones, iPods, MacBooks, and other devices from Apple.

Samsung’s new Galaxy ‘F’ phone series in India early next month

0

Samsung Electronics will introduce a new mid-segment smartphone line Galaxy ‘F in India early next month, industry insiders said as the South Korean tech giant eyes to expand its presence in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.

The new Galaxy F lineup is expected to have mid-to low-end smartphones focusing on cameras.

The new ‘Galaxy F’ series targeting millennials and Gen Z consumers will be priced around Rs 20,000, industry sources told IANS last week.

Galaxy F41 may be the first one to make a debut. The Galaxy F41 is rumored to have a water-drop notch display and feature a triple-rear camera setup, reports Yonhap news agency.

The launch of the ‘Galaxy F’ series is set to strengthen Samsung’s position in the India smartphone market, with the ‘Galaxy M’ series doing exceedingly well.

The company recently released the Galaxy M31s and the Galaxy M51 in India and held various promotions to boost sales.

Samsung was the second-largest smartphone vendor in India in the second quarter of the year with a 26 percent market share, only behind China’s Xiaomi with a 29 percent market share.

The ‘Galaxy M’ series — launched in early 2019 — has gone on to become a highly successful franchise for Samsung, with GMV (gross merchandise value) from M series expected to touch $3.5 billion by the end of this year, Samsung said recently.

Expanding its popular Galaxy ‘M’ series, Samsung has launched M51 with a Snapdragon 730G processor along with a ‘meanest monster’ 7000mAh battery in India.

Galaxy M51 is priced at Rs 24,999 for the 6GB/128GB variant and Rs 26,999 for the 8GB/128GB variant.

Cricketing legend Kevin Pietersen bats for rhino conservation

0

Former England cricket captain and a part of the commentary panel for the ongoing IPL 2020, Kevin Pietersen, says that in the midst of a global pandemic, people are starting to realize that we need to start protecting nature. On World Rhino Day, Pietersen is featuring in ‘Save This Rhino – India’, a National Geographic documentary that exhibits his passion for rhino conservation.

“We need to start protecting what’s important to us. We need to start looking after the planet, and hopefully, the last six months have been a reality check for all of us to take stock of what we got, what we need to and to try to not hammer the planet as much as we’ve been hammering the planet. If we get rid of this planet, we’ve nowhere to go,” Pietersen told IANSlife over the phone from Dubai.

A cricketer who’s had a hall of fame career in all formats of the game, Pietersen’s passion for rhino conservation took shape in 2013 when he went to a safari in South Africa.

“I started to understand the dynamics around the poaching crisis and how rhinos are being killed every single day and if we didn’t do anything, by 2025, we’d lose an entire species. At that stage, I thought I might as well use my profile for good. I love wild animals and the outdoors. So, I started to bang the drum about raising awareness and raising money and speaking to people, trying to get donations and stop poaching. It has been going on for seven years and I loved every single bit of it as much as I hate some of the situations and images I’ve seen and I’ve been into. I think we are starting to see some real benefit from the work so many great people are doing,” he shared.

Rhinos are under extreme threat worldwide and it is mainly due to illegal poaching to source rhino horns. His dream project SORAI – Save our Rhino in Africa India – is an initiative for the ongoing preservation and protection of Rhino in Africa and India and the ongoing education, awareness, and public support of this issue globally. The mission is to save the rhino from extinction.

The documentary ‘Save The Rhino: India’ premiers on September 22 on Nat Geo Wild and features explorer Krithi Karanth. They walk in one of India’s incredible forests – Kaziranga National Park – to assess the situation of rhinos in India. The documentary explores how poaching and flooding are threats to the species prized for its horn.

“We spent some time with people in villages around, schools and the Park itself looking at the stunning wildlife and scenic beauty. India is going to be so proud of the story that we tell because of how successful the conservation work is out there and how perfect they have the situation compared to many other countries around the world. They got the poaching under control and the animals are flourishing,” the cricketing legend and conservation enthusiast shared.

He adds that since the river Brahmaputra floods its banks every year, they are working to launch a technology around early warning flood systems which helps with the human-wildlife conflict, and will help people and rangers help the animals out. “Evacuating before the flood is going to save a lot of lives.”

Asked how the pandemic has affected cricket, he shared: “Pandemic has affected absolutely everything, all sports – but it’s nice to see all sports are back on. Golf was the first sport to be back on, football is playing, cricket is playing. IPL is just started here in Dubai. It’s wonderful.”

Pietersen also shares a bit about his life and time in lockdown. “I was lucky, I live on a big piece of land in the countryside of the UK, I was with my family, two young children, and we had the best time. The weather was amazing in the UK. We came really close as a family. Not traveling as much as I used to travel was something we benefitted from. Trained hard, become more healthy, and just had the best time.”

Experienced midfielders group will be key to our success: Pradhan

0

Midfielder Nikki Pradhan has stated the present experienced midfielders group will hold the key for the Indian women’s hockey team at the big tournaments in the upcoming years.

“We are very lucky to have so many midfielders in the Indian team, who have already played 100 matches for the national side,” said Pradhan.

“Experience is a huge factor when it comes to big tournaments like the Olympics and if we play at our hundred percent then we can win against any team. Experience teaches one to be calm and thinks clearly under pressure and therefore our experienced midfielders group will be the key to our success in the upcoming years,” she added.

Pradhan has been part of many memorable moments for the national side which includes the gold medal win at the Women’s Asia Cup 2017, victory at the FIH Women’s Series Finals 2019, and booking a place at the Tokyo Olympics after defeating the USA at the Olympic Qualifiers last year.

The 26-year-old, who became the first woman hockey player from Jharkhand to represent India in the Olympics in 2016, also spoke about her experience at the quadrennial event.

“It was fantastic to take part in the Rio Olympics. Just being around the top athletes from all over the world was something else. The Indian women’s hockey team made it to the Olympics after 36 years so it was a huge moment for us.

“However, it was disappointing to come back without a victory. But it didn’t deter us from trying harder and Hockey India has shown tremendous faith in us over all the good and bad times,” she added.

She further mentioned that Hockey India through the Sports Authority of India (SAI), state governments, and state units have constructed the “best pitches for practice and international matches” and instilled the belief in the team that they could take on any top side in the world.

“When we have a tremendous backing of our own federation, then it inspires us to perform every time we step on the field,” said the midfielder.

Have learnt a lot from Virat bhaiya: Devdutt Padikkal

0

Left-handed batsman Devdutt Padikkal, who played an instrumental role in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their opening game of this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has stated that he has learned a lot from skipper Virat Kohli.

On Monday evening, RCB first posted 163/5 in their allotted 20 overs and then defended the total by inflicting a monstrous batting collapse for SRH at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, bowling them out for 153 in the final over of the match.

Padikkal, who was making his IPL debut, played a 42-ball 56-run knock which was studded with eight boundaries.

“I was very nervous when I got the news that I would be making my debut for RCB. I was just walking in my room the day I got the news that I will be playing against Hyderabad. When I came to bat, I got settled then, when I played my first two balls, I really felt good,” Padikkal told leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in a video posted on the official IPL website.

“For the past month we have been training here, Virat Bhaiya has talked to me and I have learned a lot from him. Whenever I am with him, I keep asking questions from him,” he added.

The 20-year-old batsman, who shared a 90-run opening stand with Aaron Finch, further said that Australia’s limited-overs skipper showed confidence in him which in turn helped him to bat freely.

“Playing today with Finch felt amazing. He understood that I was scoring quickly, so he gave me the strike and showed confidence in me.”

RCB will next play Kings XI Punjab at the same venue on Thursday.

Ensure better umpiring, use tech to the max: Wadia urges BCCI

0

Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ensure “better” umpiring standards and make maximum use of the technology in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

This comes after the Kings XI Punjab lost their IPL 13 opener to Delhi Capitals in the Super Over on Sunday.

During the 19th over of KXIP’s innings when Mayank Agarwal and Chris Jordan were batting, the square-leg umpire adjudged that a second run taken by England’s Jordan was not complete. However, replays showed Jordan’s bat had crossed the line.

“I would request BCCI to ensure better umpiring and to ensure henceforth that technology is used to the maximum so as to ensure fairness and transparency in a game which is known to be the best leagues in the world,” Wadia said in a statement on Monday.

The Punjab-based franchise feels that the ‘short-run’ call cost it the game.

“I feel it is unfortunate that Kings XI was the subject of poor decision-making by the umpire and this cost us the game. I do hope that BCCI implements a system and process so that the other teams do not suffer the same plight as Kings XI did yesterday,” Wadia said.

“If technology is not there to be used for the fairness and transparency of the game and to ensure that it is equitable to all, then why to use technology at all?” he questioned.

The Kings XI Punjab co-owner also drew reference to the other leagues and how technology was used there. “It is exceedingly unfortunate that today with tremendous use of technology, we still do not use technology to ensure the total fairness and transparency in cricket game like several other leagues across the world including EPL, NBA, etc.”

“VAR has become something which is used across the world. The game of yesterday in question between Kings XI and Delhi had two umpiring mistakes which cost KXIP the game,” he added.

According to Wadia, the first decision that went against Kings XI against Delhi Capitals “came in the first few overs of the match where a leg bye went for four and it was given as leg bye by the umpire but it was actually a wide ball”.

“The second disastrous decision came at the end of the game in the last couple of overs, when a run was deemed as not being a run even though TV replays showed that it had been a run. Unfortunately, these two decisions cost Kings XI the game,” he said.

Earlier, actress and co-owner of Kings XI Punjab Preity Zinta had also expressed her disappointment over the controversial decision.

“I traveled enthusiastically during a pandemic, did six days of quarantine and five COVID tests with a smile but that one short-run hit me hard. What’s the point of technology if it cannot be used? It’s time BCCI introduces new rules. This cannot happen every year,” she had tweeted.

“I’ve always believed in being graceful in a win or loss and in the spirit of the game but it’s also important to ask for policy changes that improve the game in the future for everyone. The past has happened and it’s imp to move on. So looking ahead and being positive as always,” she added.

SSR case: NCB summons Deepika Padukone’s manager Karishma

Widening its probe into the drug’s connection in Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput death case, the NCB has summoned Karishma Prakash, the manager of actor Deepika Padukone, and Dhruv Chitgopekar, CEO of the Kwan talent management agency for questioning.

A top Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) official related to the probe said, “We have summoned Prakash, who works as a manager at Kwan and its CEO Dhruv”.

The official said that they have been summoned as some WhatsApp chats showed they were allegedly involved in the drug case.

The development comes a day after the NCB officials said they will be issuing summons to Bollywood actors Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, and fashion designer Simone Kambhatta this week for questioning in connection with its probe.

Besides Prakash and Dhruv, the NCB has also summoned Sushant’s former manager Shruti Modi and talent manager Jaya Saha for more questioning.

The duo was questioned for over five hours on Monday by the NCB officials here.

The NCB has already arrested Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, Sushant’s house manager Samuel Miranda, personal staff Dipesh Sawant and over 15 others in the case so far.

Later in the day, the NCB will move the Special Court to seek a day’s custody for Showik and Sawant, to connect the dots with some new facts that have emerged in the case during the investigation.

The NCB has registered a case on the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after the alleged drug chats of Showik, Miranda and several others came to the fore.

Sushant was found hanging in his Bandra’s Mont Blanc apartment on June 14.

Besides the CBI and the ED, NCB is the third agency to probe into the death case of Sushant.

Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), has stressed the importance of multilateralism, calling for collective efforts and prompt action for a better future.

“Multilateralism is not an option but a necessity as we build back better and greener for a more equal, more resilient, and more sustainable world,” Bozkir said while addressing a high-level meeting to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UN on Monday.

He noted that “the three pillars of the UN — peace and security, development, and human rights — are equally important, interrelated, and interdependent”, which is what the world body has been striving for over the past 75 years with the support of the member states.

The UN has worked tirelessly to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms for all and has also shaped the norms for international development, Bozkir told the meeting.

He called for collective efforts and continued commitment from nations to work together to strengthen coordination and global governance for the common future of present and coming generations.

“The UN must be at the center of our efforts,” Bozkir said, adding “the world has changed in unimaginable ways” since the UN was established.

The UNGA President said an upgraded UN must respond to challenges and changes to stay relevant and effective, noting “it must be inclusive and consult widely with all relevant stakeholders” to ensure an effective response to common challenges.

Bozkir said “no other global organization gives hope to many people for a better world,” as “there is no other global organization with the legitimacy, convening power and normative impact as the UN”.

The organization’s work is more crucial than ever, especially in the context of the threats posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and support from the member states is an indispensable part, according to the UNGA President.

Noting “the UN is only as strong as its members’ commitment to its ideals and each other”, Bozkir emphasized that “it is now time to mobilize our resources, strengthen your efforts, and show unprecedented political will and leadership to ensure the future we want, and the UN we need”.

“It is now time to act. I am taking the call for renewed global actions seriously,” he added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that the entire Kashi area would be developed as a model of development and tourism.

He said that Varanasi is fast emerging as a hub for agriculture export, silk and handloom production, and export, health and tourism.

Yogi Adityanath said that a record developmental work had taken place in the state during the last over three years, but the special interest of the Prime Minister, coupled with the coordinated efforts of the Centre and the state, has ensured unprecedented infrastructure development in Varanasi.

The Chief Minister, while addressing a review meeting, late on Monday night, said that Varanasi has got a global identity with a perfect mix of religion and spirituality with modern development.

The multimodal connectivity by road, air, and rail has facilitated tourists from all over the world to visit Kashi, which is said to be the abode of Lord Shiva.

He said that in view of tourism, the heritage signage, ghat revitalization and facade improvement of 84 ghats, cultural upliftment of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and ghats, tourism facilities in the Dashashwamedh ghat, and development of a market complex are some of the development works being undertaken in Varanasi.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to speed up the sewer projects under the AMRUT scheme in Varanasi, Jaunpur, and Ghazipur. The construction and beautification of parks are being taken up under the AMRUT scheme as well.

During the meeting over video conferencing, the Chief Minister interacted with the ministers and elected representatives of the area and took their feedback.

The Chief Minister said that the network of Expressways in the state will give impetus to the overall development.

The Purvanchal Expressway in Ghazipur will give a new dimension to eastern Uttar Pradesh and the state’s infrastructure.

Emphasizing the quality of work and maintenance of the timeline of all the projects, he pointed out that any delay in the developmental works unnecessarily escalates the project cost.

“Every project should be undertaken on a fixed timeline while observing all the quality norms. It is extremely important that work is given to such agencies that have sufficient manpower and capacity to execute the work on time. The utilization certificate should be made available after completion of 75 percent of the work so that the remaining funds may be released timely,” he added.
