Kangana: We need to save film industry from various terrorists

Actress Kangana Ranaut says she wants film industries of different states to have a collective identity and claims she wants to save the industry from terrorists such as the nepotism brigade and the drug mafia.

“People’s perception that the top film industry in India is Hindi film Industry is wrong. Telugu film industry has ascended itself to the top position and now catering films to pan India in multiple languages, many Hindi films being shot in Ramoji Hyderabad,” she tweeted on Saturday.

This comes after Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath reportedly said he plans to build the “biggest film city” in Uttar Pradesh.

“I applaud this announcement by @myogiadityanath Ji. We need many reforms in the film industry, first of all we need one big film industry called the Indian film industry.. we are divided based on many factors, Hollywood films get the advantage of this. One industry but many Film Cities,” she wrote.

She went on to say that best of dubbed regional films don’t get pan-India release but dubbed Hollywood films get a mainstream release, adding that the trend was “alarming”.

“Reason is the atrocious quality of most Hindi films and their monopoly over theatre screens, also media created aspirational imagine for Hollywood films,” said the Bollywood actress.

Kangana added: “We need to save the industry from various terrorists — Nepotism terrorism, Drug Mafia terrorism, Sexism terrorism, religious and regional terrorism, Foreign films terrorism, Piracy terrorism, Labourer’s exploitation terrorism, and Talent exploitation terrorism”.

Tagging the Office of the Prime Minister of India, she tweeted: “Films have an ability to bring the entire nation together but
@PMOIndia let’s first please bring these many industries together who have individual identities but not a collective identity please join them together like Akhand Bharat and we will make it number one in the world.”

Andhra minister says TDP workers in judiciary for Naidu’s benefit

0

Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Perni Venkataramaiah has alleged that some people who worked for the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were now in the judiciary to work for the benefit of N. Chandrababu Naidu.

“People who worked actively in a political party for decades as foot soldiers are in the judiciary today, working for the benefit of Chandrababu,” claimed Venkataramaiah.

He raised suspicions that these people have worked with the TDP for decades.

The Minister called on the Central government and the Supreme Court to focus on these issues.

His comments assume significance in the light of the Andhra Pradesh High Court passing gag orders on the media and stalling an investigation into an alleged real estate scandal in Amaravati during the TDP regime.

There were allegations that a land scam covering more than 4,000 acres occurred in the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA).

Venkataramaiah also castigated the opposition leaders for politicizing and negatively publicizing the Re 1 cess on petrol and diesel to develop road infrastructure.

He said the media houses affiliated to the opposition party have never highlighted the series of fuel price hikes by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

Amit Shah to join LS proceedings on Saturday after recovery

0

Two days after he was discharged from the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) followed by a complete medical check-up to ensure his post-COVID-19 recovery, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to join the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament on Saturday during the Lok Sabha proceedings.

As his name is mentioned in the revised list of Business of the Lok Sabha for Saturday, it seems Shah would join the lower house to move the National Forensic Sciences University Bill, 2020 for its passage. The Lok Sabha will meet at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Shah’s name is mentioned in the legislative business list to press for the Bill which provides establishment and declare an institution to be known as the National Forensic Sciences University as an institution of national importance to facilitate and promote studies and research and to achieve excellence in the field of forensic science in conjunction with applied behavioral science studies, law, criminology, and other allied areas and technology and other related fields.

The Minister’s name is also listed for the move of Rashtriya Raksha University Bill, 2020 for its consideration and passage. The Bill seeks to establish and declare an institution to be known as the Rashtriya Raksha University as an institution of national importance and to provide for its incorporation and matters connected.

Shah was discharged from AIIMS on Thursday evening, four days after being admitted there for a complete medical check-up.

On September 13, Shah was admitted to AIIMS for a complete check-up ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. This was the third time he was admitted to the hospital after contracting coronavirus.

Shah had been suffering from post-COVID ailments for a month. On August 2, he had tested positive for Covid-19 and received treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. The Home Minister was discharged on August 14 after testing negative.

On August 18, Shah was admitted to AIIMS for post-COVID treatment after he complained of fatigue and body ache. He recovered on August 29 and was discharged.

AIFF to conduct ‘International Virtual Conference’ for coaches

0

All India Football Federation (AIFF) is set to organize an ‘International Virtual Conference’ for coaches from September 28-30, which will feature a number of top-level speakers conducting sessions over a wide variety of topics.

In a live chat with AIFF TV, AIFF head of coach education Savio Medeira shared details about the course and the intentions behind conducting it.

“We have some very good speakers and the conference is based on various aspects, such as youth football, women’s football, media, scouting and coach education, where an instructor from the FIFA coach education department will be there. On the last day, we have planned a master class with two of the best coaches — national team head coach Igor Stimac and Phil Brown. With such a line-up, if everything goes right, this conference will come out very successful,” Medeira declared.

Along with the above-mentioned coaches, the three-day conference will feature speakers such as Thomas Dennerby (India U-17 women’s national team coach), Basir Mohamed (Senior Manager, Coaching Development Department FIFA), Dan Abrahams (Sports Psychologist), Dawn Scott (High-Performance Coach, FA UK), amongst others.

The participants in the conference will be AIFF C Certificate, AFC B Diploma, AFC A Diploma, and AFC Pro Diploma-level coaches. The attending coaches will be accorded credits as part of the new revalidation process introduced by Medeira.

The international conference comes on the heels of various online webinars and workshops organized by the AIFF since the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“When Covid-19 did strike us somewhere in March, we had to stop all our activities. But, the good thing that had happened was many of the stakeholders did come and conducted webinars to keep the coaches refreshed and focused on their job,” Medeira stated.

“We along with SAI did a big webinar which was very well appreciated by the coaches. Then, there were so many webinars which were done at state-level, along with many other activities,” he added.

Barun Sobti: Divide between TV and film industry needs to vanish

Actor Barun Sobti, who recently wowed the audience with his acting skills in the thriller web series, “Asur: Welcome To Your Dark Side”, says a lot changed after the success of the show.

In an interview with IANS, Barun opened up on how people changed their perception towards him and spoke about the need to raze the divide between television and the film industry.

“A lot has been changed after ‘Asur’. Firstly, more work has started coming my way. People now recognise me as a different actor. Generally, many have this notion that ‘TV se hai, pataa nahi kar paayega yeh role ya nahi (he is from TV, who knows if he can carry off the role)’. With ‘Asur’, I feel I have been able to tweak their mentality a bit,” he said.

Barun, who rose to fame with his role in the TV show “Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?”, also emphasized on how talented people work in the small screen industry.

“I don’t know why we differentiate between TV actors and film actors. We are all the same. TV is no different. In fact, many geniuses and mature actors come from television. This divide needs to vanish. ‘Asur’ did it for me,” he said.

The actor is now gearing up for the release of his digital film, “Halahal”. It is a crime story inspired by true events, about a father in search of the truth behind his daughter’s death.

Barun plays a cop in the crime drama.

Asked how he prepared for the role, he explained: “I never watch anything to get trained. If someone suggests, ‘yeh movie dekh isme isne kitna achha cop ka role kiya hai (watch this film, he has played the cop’s role so well)’, then I make sure I don’t entertain that. I always try to be myself on the set.”

“I read the script thoroughly, understand the director’s vision, and then try to bring in my own thing with my own understanding,” he explained.

“Halahal” will stream on Eros Now from September 21.

Drug with potential to fight Covid-19 identified

0

Scientists have identified a new drug that could prevent or mitigate the consequences derived from infection by SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for Covid-19.

Preliminary results of the study conducted on animal models showed that the drug 4-Phenylbutiric acid (4-PBA) fully curbs mortality caused by respiratory failure derived from cellular stress, showed the research published in the journal Cytokine and Growth Factors Review.

The inflammatory process identified in severe cases of coronavirus causes an uncontrolled and excessive release of cytokines — molecules in charge of organizing the body’s defenses- which could even trigger vascular hyperpermeability and multi-organ failure.

Controlling such cytokine “storm”, through those controlling them, that is, the infected cells is precisely what these researchers proposed.

“When cells are stressed by infection, they call the cytokines, and the more stressed they are, the more persistent they become, provoking this uncontrolled inflammation. Hence, one possible treatment for Covid-19 is to reduce cellular stress,” explained one of the lead researchers Ivan Duran, Professor at the University of Malaga in Spain.

According to the researcher, repurposing the 4-PBA anti-stress drug could modulate such cellular stress, which is also present in pathologies like diabetes, aging, or carcinogenesis, which, in turn, are classified as risk factors for Covid-19.

The drug has already been approved for clinical use against other diseases and, hence, easy to apply clinically.

The study also identified the endoplasmic reticulum resident protein “BiP” (Binding Immunoglobulin Protein) – a stress blood marker — as an indicator of cellular stress situations, likely to be explored and measured in affected patients.

This way, BiP levels, apart from determining the efficacy of 4-PBA treatment, could serve as early indicators of Covid-19 risk groups, establishing a correlation between high levels and the inflammatory severity after the viral infection, Duran pointed out.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez is among the 26 players named in Uruguay’s squad for FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Ecuador slated to be played next month.

The squad also includes Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur and Inter Milan defender Diego Godin, reports Xinhua news agency.

But there was no place for striker Edinson Cavani, who is yet to find a new club after parting ways with Paris Saint-Germain in June. The 33-year-old has not played since March.

Celeste head coach Oscar Tabarez named six uncapped players in the squad: Ronald Araujo, Mauro Arambarri, Nicolas De La Cruz, Diego Rossi, Damian Suarez and Rodrigo Munoz.

The South American zone World Cup qualifiers were originally scheduled to begin in late March but were suspended because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Uruguay will face Chile in Montevideo on October 8 before meeting Ecuador in Quito five days later.

Manushi Chhillar: Don’t think your size defines your fitness

Beauty queen-turned-actress Manushi Chhillar says fitness for her is all about finding a balance, and that is actually a personal experience because each individual has their fitness goals.

“For me, fitness is all about finding your balance. It’s an extremely personal and individualistic experience because each individual has their own fitness goal. I love my cheesecake and I also like to train like a machine, so that I can enjoy it,” Manushi said.

“I think I have always wanted to push myself because I do believe we all have a lot of room for growth and become the best version of ourselves,” she added.

Manushi says society should not hail skinny as a sign of being fit, because the idea sets unreal fitness goals.

“Perfection is also individualistic and I don’t think your size defines your fitness. Each one of us wants to see ourselves in a certain way, has a certain body type, and wants to feel great about it. That’s what’s important,” she observed.

She said that fitness is as much internal as it is about external beauty, adding: “I’m glad that I have realized what works for me and what doesn’t.”

Manushi credits her career choices for her knowledge of fitness and nutrition.

“My journey of winning Miss World and now preparing to be an actress has taught me a lot about maintaining fitness. I understand my body better now and lifestyle plays a huge part in keeping me healthy. Yes, I’m not obsessive but careful about what I intake and how I train. I love learning more about being fit,” she said.

Talking about her daily fitness routine, Manushi said: “For me, my fitness regime is all about mixing it up. I love being outdoors in the morning to focus myself for the day ahead, I love weight training, I love stretching. I think anything repetitive would throw me off. I like to mix it all up but also keep it regular because that’s when it shows results.”

Manushi is all set to make her Bollywood debut opposite Akshay Kumar in the upcoming film “Prithviraj”.

Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, “Prithviraj” is based on the life of King Prithviraj Chauhan.

It stars Akshay as Prithviraj, while Manushi plays Sanyogita, the love of his life.

Woman accompanying nephew gang-raped in Alwar, 3 held

0

In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old woman was gang-raped in Tijara in Alwar district by six persons while she was returning to her village along with her nephew on a bike, police officials said on Saturday. Police have since arrested three persons.

Police said that her nephew was also forced to act as if he was participating in the crime on September 14 to ensure that the woman did not lodge police against the accused.

The victim, however, lodged a complaint on September 17 after a video clip of the crime went viral, Tijara DSP Kushal Singh said, adding that three accused who filmed the video have been arrested while the hunt is on to arrest the other accused. One of the accused is a minor.

Police officials said that the woman had gone to her brother’s place in a village in Haryana to hand him some money. While returning, they were stopped by a group of unidentified youths equipped with sharp-edged weapons, who held her nephew hostage while one of the youths raped her. Other youths filmed the act and also sexually assaulted her.

The youths then put the video clip on social media.

The DSP said that a police team had been formed to investigate the case.

Sources said that the woman initially did not lodge a police complaint but told her husband about the crime.

Around a year ago, a similar crime was reported in Thanagaazi in Alwar district, wherein a woman accompanying her husband was gang-raped and filmed. Later her video was put on social media.

CBI files supplementary charge sheet in AgustaWestland case, names 15 accused

0

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday filed a supplementary charge sheet against 15 accused, including alleged middleman Christian Michel and accused-turned-approver Rajiv Saxena, in connection with the alleged corruption in the Rs 3,600 crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal.

The charge sheet filed before Special Judge Arvind Kumar in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court does not name former Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma, according to the sources. On September 11, the probe agency had sought sanctions to prosecute him.

The Special Judge has now listed the matter for September 21 for consideration of the supplementary charge sheet. The first charge sheet in the case was filed in September 2017.

The case pertains to the buying 12 AgustaWestland helicopters built by Italian defense manufacturing giant Finmeccanica (now known as the group) at an estimated cost of Rs 3,600 crore for ferrying VVIPs. In the deal, bribes were allegedly paid to middlemen and others. The purchase was cleared in 2010 by the then UPA government.

On January 1, 2014, India canceled the contract with Finmeccanica’s British subsidiary AgustaWestland for supplying 12 AW-101 VVIP choppers to the IAF, over alleged breach of contractual obligations and on charges of paying kickbacks amounting to Rs 423 crore.

The CBI, which registered an FIR in the case on March 12, 2013, had alleged that former IAF chief S.P. Tyagi, some of his relatives, and the other accused received kickbacks from AgustaWestland to help it win the contract.

The CBI probe revealed that several payments were made to the Tyagi’s by alleged middlemen Guido Haschke, Carlo Gerosa, and Christian Michel.

Indian investigative agencies in December 2018 arrested British national Michel after he was handed over by the UAE and he has been in judicial custody since then. Dubai-based businessman Saxena was extradited to India on January 31, 2019, in connection with the case.

US Covid-19 death toll reflects failing national response: Expert

0

The coronavirus death toll in the US is a “reflection of a failing national response”, a top infectious disease expert has said.

“The actual number is higher because not all deaths have been identified and this is just a horrifying number,” Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday citing Tom Frieden, former director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as saying.

Comparing the US’ death toll and mortality rate with those of Germany and South Korea, Frieden said that “these are lives that have been lost and jobs that have been lost because we haven’t had an organized, consistent, coherent federal response”.

“It’s more people than die from suicide or overdose or homicide or HIV.

“In fact, Covid-19 is on track to be the number three leading cause of death in all of the US for this year,” Frieden said.

As of Saturday, the US still remains is the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 6,722,699 and 198,509, respectively, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

Had a hectic week? Just 10 minutes of massage will relax you

0

If you have had a tiring week, just 10 minutes of simple massage at home can do wonders to rejuvenate your mind and body, suggests new research.

All you need to do is find someone to do that for you.

Even ten minutes of simple rest increases relaxation, albeit to a lesser degree than massage, showed the research published in the journal Scientific Reports.

This study indicates that massage is an easy-to-apply intervention that can boost the body’s principal engine for relaxation – the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) – and also lead to a reduction in perceived mental stress.

The discovery that massage is effective on the level of both psychology and physiology via the PNS may pave the way for future studies on understanding the role of relaxation in stress.

“We are very encouraged by the findings that short periods of dis-engagement are enough to relax not just the mind but also the body,” said study first author Maria Meier from the University of Konstanz in Germany.

“You don’t need professional treatment in order to relax. Having somebody gently stroke your shoulders, or even just resting your head on the table for ten minutes, is an effective way to boost your body’s physiological engine of relaxation.”

Stress is known to have negative consequences for health and disease.

However, our bodies have an inbuilt regenerative system, the PNS, to ward off stress during times of threat.

Launching a relaxation response is thus key to protecting our health and restoring balance in our body.

Massage has been used to improve relaxation, yet no systematic approach exists to robustly confirm its effect on the PNS and whether or not this could be used as rehabilitation for patients suffering from the stress-related disease.

For the current study, the researchers developed a standardized approach for testing if tactile stimulation could improve mental and physical relaxation.

They applied two different ten-minute massages on human subjects in the laboratory to test.

A head-and-neck massage was designed to actively stimulate the PNS by applying moderate pressure on the vagus nerve, which is the largest nerve running to the PNS.

Then a neck-and-shoulder massage with soft stroking movements was designed to examine whether just touch can also be relaxing.

Finally, a control group of participants sitting quietly at a table was tested for the effect of rest without tactile stimulation.

Physiological relaxation was gauged by monitoring the heart rate of participants and measuring heart rate variability (HRV), which indicates how flexibly the PNS can respond to changes in the environment.

The higher the heart rate variability, the more relaxed is the body. Psychological relaxation was gauged by asking participants to describe how relaxed or stressed they feel.

Ten minutes of resting or receiving either massage resulted in a psychological and physiological reduction in stress said the study.

The physiological effect was more pronounced when participants received a message, it added.

It was, however, not important whether the massage was soft or moderate — tactile contact, in general, seemed to improve the relaxation of the body.

This day in 2007: Yuvraj hits Broad for six 6s in Durban

0

It was on this day in 2007 when former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh created history in the shortest format of the game as he hit six consecutive sixes in an over bowled by England fast bowler Stuart Broad in the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup.

During the group game against England at the Kingsmead in Durban, Yuvraj hit six consecutive 6s against Broad in the 19th over of Indian innings. The flamboyant all-rounder played an unbelievable knock of 14-ball 58 which helped India post 218 runs on the board in their allotted 20 overs.

His innings ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides as India won the match by 18 runs, restricting England to 200/6 in their stipulated overs.

The drama began in the 18th over when the MS Dhoni-led side was on 171/3. Yuvraj, who came to bat after the dismissal of Robin Uthappa, had hit Andrew Flintoff for two fours in the 18th over, which infuriated the England bowler. The duo got involved in a verbal altercation which came to an end following an intervention from the on-field umpires.

Following the incident, the left-handed Indian batsman got pumped up and it was Broad who bore the brunt of his onslaught in the very next over.

Yuvraj hit the first ball of the 19th over, over deep mid-wicket for a six. The next maximum came over the backward square leg boundary, third over wide long-off, fourth over the deep point boundary, fifth over square leg and final six over wide long-on.

“13 years! How time flies!!” Yuvraj said in an Instagram post on Saturday while recalling the famous match of the ICC World T20 where India emerged victorious as they defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in a pulsating final.

Last month, Broad became the seventh bowler in the history of Test cricket to scalp 500 wickets. After this, Yuvraj termed the England pacer a “legend”.

“I’m sure every time I write something about Stuart Broad, people relate to him getting hit for 6 sixes! Today I request all my fans to applaud what he has achieved!” Yuvraj said in a tweet. “500 Test wickets is no joke-it takes hard work, dedication & determination. Broady, you’re a legend! Hats off,” he added.

The left-handed all-rounder announced his retirement from international cricket and IPL last year after representing India in 304 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and 40 Tests.

No buyers for Air India may mean divestment to be put off

0

Air India is not finding any takers and the privatization may be put off by three years, delivering a blow to the efforts to divest the national carrier.

It seems that due to the turbulence caused in the aviation sector by the COVID 19 pandemic, airlines are already struggling and in that scenario, there are no buyers for Air India. Tatas were supposedly frontrunners for the divestiture, but for some reason have backed out of the race for the moment after completing the due diligence process. The question is therefore whether the books revealed a bigger financial mess than what was anticipated.

The government has already postponed the last date for inviting bids after having said that the date would not be advanced. Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Puri has remarked that the options on the table are either to sell the airlines or close it down. October 30th was the latest deadline for finalizing the sale of Air India, but Govt will be forced to extend that as well. The deadlines of Air India sales have been extended quite a few times in the last couple of years.

If the privatization is put off by three years then the government will have to find a plan to keep the national carrier running for that period.

Reports suggest that the huge debt of Air India is a major reason for buyers not being extended. The government is examining how the debt exposure of the potential buyer can be reduced.

Out of Rs 60,074 crore debt of Air India, the government had already announced a reduced debt exposure of Rs 23,286 crore for the buyer. This means, that instead of Rs 60,074 crore debt, the new buyer will be needed to repay only Rs 23,286 crore of debt. The rest of the debt will be transferred to a special purpose vehicle called Air India Assets Holding Ltd.

Discussions are on to evolve a formula where the buyers can put in a bid based on the enterprise value and bids will be evaluated based on that.

However, due to the stress in the aviation sector, buyers may not interested even with reduced debt given that their core operations are pressure.

LG Uplus to release self-driving 5G robot next year

0

LG Uplus, a major South Korean mobile carrier, has said that it plans to roll out its 5G-powered autonomous robot next year.

LG Uplus said that the robot, which is being developed in partnership with autonomous mobility firm Unmanned Solution, recently demonstrated its abilities at local refiner Hyundai Oilbank Co.’s facility in Seosan, 150 km south of Seoul, reports Yonhap News Agency.

The robot was able to roam around the compound on its own with a margin of error of 10 cm and carry out safety procedures, such as monitoring temperatures of the facility equipment, according to the telecom operator.

LG Uplus said the robot is also able to accurately position itself for autonomous driving by using the mobile carrier’s real-time kinematic technology that sends positioning data seamlessly through the low latency 5G network.

“The autonomous robot will be core equipment for the refinery industry, which prioritizes safety,” Seo Jae-Yong, head of LG Uplus’ convergence business, said in a statement.

“We plan to wrap up further testing by the end of this year and commercialize the product next year.”

PS5 orders being delayed by Amazon due to high demand

0

As soon as Sony confirmed that its next-generation PlayStation 5 console was going to arrive in November, Amazon has warned its customers that they might not get their console on time due to incredible demand.

The company has sent out emails to many who preordered a PS5 — both the regular and digital edition — advising that shipments might not arrive in time, The Verge reported on Friday.

“We are contacting you about your order of PlayStation 5 to let you know in advance that you may not receive this item on the day it is released due to high demand.

“We’ll make every effort to get the item to you as soon as possible once released,” the email said.

When PS5 pre-orders went life, Walmart customers found some of their orders were canceled, but in Amazon’s case, these PS5 pre-orders are still valid but those who ordered from Amazon may not receive a system on launch day.

The digital edition of the console will cost $399.99, while the standard one is priced at $499.99.

The PlayStation 5 is set to hit on November 12 in the US and the rest of the world on November 19.

Centre’s deadline to AICF warring factions nearing fast

0

The Indian chess team recently won the gold medal in the FIDE Online Olympiad and the players were greeted by The President, Vice President, Prime Minister, several ministers, and other political leaders.

Former world chess champion Vishwanathan Anand had also said India winning the gold in the FIDE Online Olympiad will have a positive impact on the way the central government looks at the game and the players.

Now, the eyes of all the players and others connected with chess are on the central government for its action as the deadline it gave to the warring factions of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) to resolve their issues by September 30 is nearing fast.

As a matter of fact, the factional fight was seen in the selection of the Indian team for the Online Olympiad with each faction putting out a different team composition.

“We are not aware of the complexities of the court cases which the factions of AICF are fighting right now, hence we do not have a clue if the government deadline of September 30 can be met with,” Secretary V. Saravanan, who is also an International Master (IM), told IANS.

The AICF is divided into two factions — one led by President P.R.Venketrama Raja and the other by its Secretary Bharat Singh Chauhan.

The leaders of the two factions with their respective supporters had removed each other from their posts. However, the central government recognizes Raja and Chauhan as AICF’s President and Secretary.

The central government, in a letter, addressed to AICF Raja and Chauhan on May 20, while referring to the disputes in the management of the chess body, had said: “AICF may resolve the issues concerning the management of All India Chess Federation by September 30, 2020.”

“The matter is in court. We cannot comment further,” Vijay Deshpande, part of Raja’s faction, told IANS.

Recently, the Madras High Court has granted an ad-interim injunction against the special/extraordinary general body meeting of AICF held on April 22 held by supporters of Chauhan.

As the government was silent on the next course of action, Saravanan hopes the ruling dispensation does not disaffiliate AICF as a sports body, which could be a big blow for the chess community.

“The government should call the warring factions and find a way out,” a senior chess Grandmaster told IANS on the condition of anonymity.

“We (players) don’t expect AICF factions to pay heed to government directive; the courts will be the deciding factor whenever it happens. Then the government should enforce the National Sports Code,” a senior International Master (IM) told IANS preferring anonymity.

According to Saravanan, as a players’ body, the forum wishes that the current turmoil of the AICF ends as a stable and active federation is the need of the hour.

He said the forum is particular that the newly formed AICF would strictly adhere to the National Sports Code, which denotes players’ participation in administration.

“We shall actively press the government and AICF on that,” he added.

While that is for the future, Saravanan expressed his concern that the majority of the players, coaches, arbiters, and other constituents of the chess fraternity are going through tough times during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It is important that AICF regains its role of leadership and livelihood support for the game,” he remarked.

IANS had earlier reported about Indian Bank’s decision to partially freeze AICF’s bank account, allowing only deposits and not withdrawals, owing to the internal fight within the chess body.

The salary for the AICF staff was also not paid from AICF accounts, but by the Chauhan faction initially.

“For the past couple of months, the AICF staff salaries have been paid by Raja. The AICF bank account is still under the freeze,” Deshpande said.

According to Saravanan, there is nothing much that the global chess body FIDE can do in the whole matter.

“The financial cost of the infighting between the factions is simply disgusting. The chess fraternity as a whole – not just the CPF – has simply lost the respect for AICF as the legal expenses are huge for both the sides,” another IM not wanting to be named told IANS.

“This has given the question in the mind of all chess players how much of the players’ money is being squandered by the AICF in such away. We should all be demanding that the AICF should be making its financial statements public in future,” the IM said.

While AICF’s bank account is under the partial freeze, the winning faction should not recover their huge legal expenses from the Federation’s funds later as it rightly belongs to the players and other stakeholders, the chess master added.
