‘Undekhi’ season 2 to be bigger and better, says director Ashish R. Shukla

The web series Undekhi has emerged a surprise hit upon release only a few weeks ago, and the makers have confirmed its second season will be bigger, better, and have more surprises.

Based on true incidents of crime and set against the backdrop of a high-profile wedding, “Undekhi” has a nerve-wracking chase, inter-family politics, and a display of power and more.

Talking about “Undekhi” season 2, director Ashish R. Shukla said: “Yes, it’s obvious because the show had a cliffhanger and lot many acts of revenge are remaining so yes it has to happen. The process has been started and the creator of the show is working on the script.”

“We’ll go on floors as the script gets finalized. It surely feels like people have a huge expectation from us and the show. The second season will be bigger, better, and will have more surprises,” he added.

For now, he is enjoying positive feedback that the show has been garnering.

“They are disappointed with some deaths and connecting with the show very personally, and it’s rewarding. We assure them that because of their love we are working harder on the next season and it will make them love the show even more,” said the director.

The first season features actors like Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Harsh Chhaya.

Kerala CM trying to destroy proof in gold case: Cong leader

0

A Congress leader in Kerala on Wednesday wondered why Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was blaming the party for his own political problems regarding coronavirus and gold smuggling case and accused him of trying to destroy evidence in the gold racket.

“Do not know what has happened to him. It’s understandable that he has come a cropper on two counts; all the applause that his government got for tackling Covid-19 has disappeared after he admitted to a community spread in two coastal hamlets here. Then came the gold smuggling case, in which eight government officials are under the scanner. Fail to understand what have we done in the corona spread and the gold case,” Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala told the media.

“We now hear the Chief Secretary has ordered on July 13 that all CCTVs at the state Secretariat will be changed after a lightning strike. No one knows when the lighting struck. We have to caution the NIA that Vijayan is trying his best to destroy all evidence by getting changed all the CCTVs that have captured lots of things, which they don’t want to come out,” claimed Chennithala.

Chennithala said those under the cloud in the gold smuggling case include IAS officer M. Sivasankar (since suspended), Swapna Suresh, Assembly Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan, State Minister for Higher Education K.T. Jaleel and his personal assistant and security officer.

He said more information has surfaced on numerous appointments made through the back door by Vijayan via state-run agency KINFRA, which had entrusted the task to an agency named Mint.

“None has a clue about Mint and its locus standi in the matter. We now demand the Chief Secretary release a list of all appointments made through Mint. Vijayan is now attacking us because we are asking him hard questions. He knows that he has been a big failure in governing the state and that can be seen from how Covid-19 is spreading,” the Congress leader remarked.

Lok Sabha member and RSP leader N.K. Premachandran demanded the removal of Kerala Police chief Loknath Behra who allegedly was doing everything possible to mar the ongoing probe in the gold smuggling case.

“Vijayan will go down as the most corrupt Chief Minister the state has seen,” said former Minister and RSP leader Shibu Baby John.

Ransomware attacks up in India as firms turn digital: Report

0

Ransomware-related cyber attacks on the Indian enterprises saw a 4 percent rise in the first three months of the year, and the increase has been enabled by operators offering ransomware as a service (RaaS) to cyber attackers.

The report from Global cybersecurity major K7 Computing also found that Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad recorded the highest rate of infections amongst Tier-I cities.

Guwahati, Jaipur, and Jammu had the highest infection rate of 38 percent each, followed by Patna at 35 percent among Tier-II cities.

“These attacks were designed to exploit user trust and scam people for financial gain. Threat actors have continued to exploit vulnerabilities in operating systems, application software, and firmware in this quarter,” said the report.

Zoom and Microsoft Teams were the most at risk. Apart from this, hackers have also taken advantage of salient weaknesses in Windows, Android, iOS, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Malware in the form of ransomware, Remote Access Trojans (RATs), and Banking Trojans have been on the rise during the quarter.
“Cyber attackers have been shifting their aim towards the enterprise market, exploiting the lack of cybersecurity awareness amongst start-ups and SMEs,” said J Kesavardhanan, Founder & CEO of K7 Computing.

“We are also witnessing an increase in phishing attacks due to the panic caused by COVID-19 and offices transitioning their workforce from centralized secure hubs to remote workstations at home”.

A partial path traversal vulnerability was noticed in the Zoom client and vulnerability in Microsoft Teams allowed cybercriminals to use a malicious GIF to sweep up the user’s data and take over an organization’s Teams accounts.

Two new vulnerabilities were detected in Microsoft’s Server Message Block (SMB) protocol, said the report.

“Modern ransomware operators have transformed themselves into businesses and are extremely focused on their targets and attacking strategies,” it added.

Modern RaaS solutions come with high-end tools like a dashboard to display attack status in real-time, customer helpline, and more said the report.

Banking sector woes impacting growth: CEA

0

India’s banking sector woes have impacted investments and growth, Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) Krishnamurthy V Subramanian said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Ficci’s 17th Annual Capital Market Conference ‘CAPAM2020′, he said the sector faced two problems of “scale and quality”.

The CEA elaborated that these problems are major factors for slow growth.

According to Subramanian, NPAs and risk aversion have impacted investment, which has in turn hit growth and eventually lowered consumption.

Besides, he pointed out the need to focus on bringing scale to the banking sector.

He asserted that India needs large banks.

The CEA cited that India lags behind “spectacularly” in terms of large banks, as it only has one bank in the top 100, while China has 18 such financial institutions.

Furthermore, he said that the quality of large borrowers is not very good and that banks should first check the financial status of the borrowers before lending.

Apart from the sector’s woes, he said banks are investing more than lending.

Citing last year’s data, he said that credit was given during that time period, similarly, during the lockdown phase, low credit was given except for the aECLGS scheme for MSMEs’.

Additionally, he said India cannot become a big economy with the current scale of the banking sector.

The theme of the conference is aAtmanirbhar Bharat: Role of Capital Market’.

Mamata condemns UP journalist killing

0

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday condemned the killing of Uttar Pradesh journalist Vikram Joshi who was shot by assailants in Ghaziabad near Delhi on Monday night in front of his two daughters. Joshi died this morning at a hospital.

“My heartfelt condolences to the family of Vikram Joshi, a fearless journalist who passed away today. He was shot in UP for filing an FIR to book his niece’s molesters,” the West Bengal CM tweeted.

CCTV footage also showed the journalist lying on the road wounded and one of his daughters weeping and screaming for help.

Banerjee, in her tweet, said that an atmosphere of fear has been created in the country.

“Voices being muzzled. Media not spared. Shocking,” she said.

Shekhar Kapur wants to dedicate ‘Paani’ to Sushant

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur wants late actor Sushant Singh Rajput to be remembered forever through a work of his that he has always considered very special.

Kapur is hopeful that someday his ambitious film “Paani” will be made, and when that happens he would like to dedicate the film to Sushant’s memory. The filmmaker had signed the late actor as the male lead for the film, but it got shelved.

“If you want to journey with the Gods or your creativity, you have to walk each step in devotion. In humility. God willing #Paani will get made one day. If it does, I will dedicate it to Sushant. But it has to be made with partners that walk in humility, not in arrogance,” Kapur tweeted on Wednesday.

The cryptic last line of his tweet seems like a hint at the fact that “Paani” got shelved owing to Kapur’s creative differences with Aditya Chopra, chairman of the mighty Yash Raj Films, a production house that was producing the film.

Reacting to Kapur’s tweet, netizens encouraged the filmmaker to complete the film and suggested him to get it crowd-funded instead of depending on a producer.

“Dear Shekhar Sir, why not use crowdfunding as an alternative? Will be a tight slap on the production houses and those who thought they run the show,” commented a user.

“Shekhar, there are many well-educated people in India and overseas who’d love to support your most ambitious project if dedicated to #SushantSinghRajput. Idea: What if the budget for this entire movie were raised via crowdfunding? Screw big producers. It’s doable – think abt it,” suggested another user.

“But it should have been made with Sushant when he was alive. Now it is useless. Dedicating him the movie which wasted so much time of his career is utterly useless. A film so connected to Sush, and if he won’t be there in it, then no one will watch it,” announced a fan of the late actor.

Sushant Singh Rajput, who had been signed to play the film’s lead, passed away in Mumbai last month. He was found hanging at his residence on June 14. Postmortem report stated that the actor committed suicide. Mumbai Police is still investigating the death.

With eye on Tokyo Olympics, SAI extends contracts of 32 foreign coaches

0

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has extended the contract of 32 foreign coaches in 11 disciplines till September 30, 2021. The contracts of many coaches were slated to end in September this year.

SAI said that the decision was taken to ensure that athletes bound for Tokyo Olympics, which has been postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, can retain continuity in their training with the same coaches.

Speaking about the decision, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “The postponement of Tokyo Olympics by a year makes it imperative that the same coaches be retained so that athletes are not disadvantaged in any way.”

“A new coach takes time to understand an athlete and the athlete needs time to understand the training process of a coach. We don’t have that kind of time now.”

Rijiju had earlier announced that coaches, both Indian and foreign, will be hired for at least four years or one Olympic cycle to ensure continuity in training. The four-year contract will be handed out with an eye on the 2024 and 2028 Olympics.

The interim extension of one year until 2021 is an immediate step to ensure athletes have the same coaches until the Tokyo Olympics. The further extension of the contract for four years will be decided on the basis of the performance of the coach and recommendation from the respective National Sports Federations.

The contracts, though for four years, will be reviewed annually and extended on the basis of a coach’s overall performance, indicated by the performance of athletes in major international events.

Religious hatred should end: Rajini on Kanda Shasti controversy

Asserting that religious hatred should be eradicated, superstar Rajinikanth on Wednesday thanked the Tamil Nadu government for taking prompt action against people out to denigrate Hindu god Murugan and prayer to seek his blessings.

In a tweet, Rajinikanth said: “At least hereafter, religious hatred and blasphemy is eradicated. It should be eradicated. All religions are acceptable… Kandhannukku Arohara.”

As per Hindu scriptures, Lord Murugan is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi.

Rajinikanth — who earlier had said he would pursue spiritual politics — conveyed his appreciation to the AIADMK government in the state for its prompt action against those who denigrated Kanda Shasti Kavacham and hurt crores of Tamil people and also in removing the offending videos.

YouTube channel Karuppar Koottam had aired a video that allegedly denigrated Lord Murugan and the prayer Kanda Shasti Kavacham sung by devotees to seek his blessings.

Police have arrested Sentil Vasan and Sundara Natarajan, who was associated with the controversial YouTube channel, on a complaint from the state BJP.

While the BJP held a protest against Karuppar Koottam, DMK and its allies are maintaining a studied silence on the issue. Many were waiting for Rajinikanth’s reaction, citing his movie ‘Padayappa’ that refers to Lord Murugan.

IPL: Have no reason not to go if everything gets ticked off, says Maxwell

0

Big-hitting Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell has said he has no reason not to travel for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) if everything gets ticked off.

The postponement of the men’s T20 World Cup, originally slated to be held in Australia from October 18 to November 15 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has paved the way for IPL to take place this year. The BCCI is planning to stage the tournament from September 26 to November 8 in UAE.

“Any time you have a home World Cup, you are certainly looking forward to it. We felt like we had been building towards it as a T20 side,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.

“You wait and see (with the IPL), waiting on the judgments of other people, what you can and can’t do with travel and quarantine times and all that, if everything gets ticked off there, I have no real reason not to go.

“The overseas guys get a hell of a kick playing in it, some of the best players in the world rubbing shoulders, similar to a World Cup, but on a smaller scale. If everything gets ticked off I would love to be available for it,” said Maxwell who will turn out for Kings XI Punjab in the cash-rich league.

The all-rounder has been recalled to a 26-man Australian preliminary squad for a proposed six-match tour of England.

“To be home was a bit of a luxury at this time of the year. I’ve actually had a great time, freshened up the batteries and the mind as well,” he said.

“I was always mentally getting myself ready for this time of year when there would potentially be cricket back on.

“I haven’t been thinking about where we are going to end or who we are going to be playing. It was about getting my game ready, my body ready, and making sure I was ready for any series.”

Australia’s proposed limited-overs series in England, which will consist of three T20Is and as many ODIs, will reportedly begin on September 4.

According to a report in Daily Telegraph, the planned fixtures would see Australia play T20Is on September 4, 6, and 8, and ODIs on September 10, 12, and 15. The Australia team is expected to reach the UK via a private flight.

Uber installing safety screens in 20k cars for safer rides

0

Ride-hailing major Uber on Wednesday announced the installation of safety screens or safety cockpit in 20,000 premier sedans for the safety of riders and drivers.

According to the company, they have already fitted them in 8,000 cars. The cost of installation is borne by Uber, and it comes free of cost to drivers.

The safety cockpit is an innovative and protective ceiling-to-floor transparent plastic screen installed between the passenger and the driver.

This enables social distancing within the confines of a car. Additionally, it acts as a safeguard to prevent droplet and aerosol transmission.

“After pioneering safety cockpits in the Indian market, Uber teams will continue to innovate the best possible product experience for all our drivers and riders,” Pavan Vaish, Head of Central Operations, Uber India and South Asia said in a statement.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Uber has purchased safety supplies worth $50 million dollars globally.

According to the ride-hailing platform, Uber has sourced more than three million face masks, 1.2 million shower caps for Moto riders, 2,00,000 bottles of disinfectants, and 2,00,000 bottles of sanitizers for free distribution to all its driver-partners in India.

The company has recently launched a comprehensive set of safety measures, such as the ‘Go Online Checklist’ and a mandatory mask policy for both riders and drivers to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

Meanwhile, Uber closed its Mumbai office last month as part of the global churning in the wake the ongoing Covid-19 disruption that has affected its business.

Uber India had in May announced to lay off around 600 full-time employees due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis.

Marc Marquez undergoes hand surgery after crashing in Jerez

0

MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez recently underwent successful hand surgery after crashing at the season-opening race in Jerez.

There has been no return date announced yet for the eight-time world champion as a metal plate was inserted in his arm and he was directed to stay at the Barcelona hospital for a couple of days.

“His aim is to return to the 2020 World Championship as soon as possible with an expected date becoming clearer soon,” Marquez’s team Honda was quoted as saying in a statement.

After mounting an incredible comeback in the Spanish GP, Marquez suffered a high side at Turn 3 and came down heavily on his right arm on July 19.

As a result, he had suffered a transverse diaphyseal fracture to his right humerus. MotoGP medical staff had initially confirmed there was no other serious head or thoracic trauma.

“Everyone who races in the World Championship has the unfortunate possibility of getting injured and having to go to the operating room,” Repsol Honda team manager Alberto Puig had said earlier.

“Unfortunately, it was our turn and it was Marc (Marquez) who has had to undergo surgery. Marc will take some time to recover but we are happy with how everything has gone,” he added.

Eng vs WI: Dukes ball makers happy with performance of red cherry

0

Duke’s ball makers have expressed their satisfaction as to how the red cherry has behaved during the first two Tests of the ongoing three-match series between England and West Indies despite the ban on using saliva to shine the ball.

West Indies tour of England marked the resumption of international cricket which was on a standstill since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the West Indies won the first Test in Southampton by four wickets, England bagged the second Test in Manchester by 113 runs to level the series at 1-1.

“As I had predicted the Dukes ball will be fine because the ball needs proper construction, just putting saliva or wax or whatever it is, that does not automatically make the ball swing,” Dilip Jajodia, managing director of British Cricket Balls Ltd, which produces the Dukes balls used in England, told TimesofIndia.com.

“The ball won’t swing if it’s not the right shape and it will need all the assistance that it can get if it’s not adequate. I am confident that our ball is the right shape, it’s constructed properly, the quarter seams are closed, it’s seam stays prominent and the ball moves (in the air).

“Polishing it because it’s an English type finish with the grease and the lather, you saw Woakes (Chris) swinging the ball right up to the end. So that’s the message that needs to get into people’s minds that – if you want a ball for international cricket it should be hand-crafted, not machine-stitched, that’s the main thing,” Jajodia said.

Asked about the feedback from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) or the Cricket West Indies (CWI) or the players, Jajodia said: “There has been no feedback, no feedback means everything is OK. You only get comments when it’s bad news. I have been in this business for many years and my view is: No news is good news, otherwise there are just unnecessary comments.”

England and West Indies will now take on each other in the final Test beginning Friday at the Old Trafford.

Heavy rains lash Delhi, low-lying areas waterlogged

0

Heavy monsoon rain and gusty winds lashed the national capital and neighboring areas on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruption in several areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of major traffic disruption on roads, increased chance of vehicle accidents and water accumulation in low lying areas and on roads. Traffic was affected at scores of places due to the waterlogging.

According to data with the Delhi’s Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, Palam observatory recorded a rainfall of 56.8 mm, while Ayanagar, Lodhi Road, Safdarjung, and Ridge observatory recorded 24.4 mm, 13.2 mm, 8.8 mm and 6.4 mm rainfall from 8.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m, Wednesday.

According to the weather bureau, rainfall below 15 mm is considered light, between 15 to 64.5 is moderate and above that as heavy.

On Sunday, the capital city had received 74.8 mm of rain in a span of around three hours. The Minto Bridge underpass, which was inundated on weekend, drowned vehicles and killed a 56-year-old driver of a mini truck, water-logged again on Wednesday after the heavy downpour.

“Traffic is affected under Minto Bridge due to waterlogging. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes,” the Delhi Traffic Police said, later tweeting that the underpass has opened up.

Delhiites took to Twitter to share pictures and videos of rainwater gushing through the roads and vehicles wading through the inundated streets.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday and green alert for the next two days. It has four color-coded warnings as per the intensity of any weather system — green, yellow, orange, and red. An orange alert is given to authorities to be prepared.

According to Delhi Government Minister Satyendar Jain, there are 1,400 pumps in the city. “If there is water-logging, it will clear out soon.”

RIL’s bull run continues, hits Rs 2,000/share for first time

0

Shares of Reliance Industries (RIL) surged to a new high on Wednesday, as they crossed the Rs 2,000-mark for the first time.

RIL shares touched an all-time high of Rs 2,010 per share.

They are currently trading on the BSE at Rs 1,996, higher by Rs 24.15 or 1.22 percent from its previous close.

In the past three months, RIL’s stock price has grown around 48 percent.

The surge has been largely on the back of the investments coming in from global marquee investors into Jio Platforms.

Jio Platforms has received a total investment of Rs 1,52,056 crore in the past three months from financial and strategic investors, with Google being the latest investor to pitch in with Rs 33,737 crore.

On Wednesday, the company in a regulatory filing said that the meeting of its Board to consider and approve the standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter ended June 30 will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020, instead of July 24.

Serological survey to be conducted in Delhi every month

0

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday said that the serological survey will now be conducted in the national capital every month.

On Tuesday, a serological survey conducted by the National Centre for Disease Control in collaboration with the Delhi Government revealed that 22.86 percent of people have the antibodies for the viral disease, while 77 percent of the population is still susceptible.

Addressing a press conference, Jain said, “Delhi government has decided to conduct serosurvey every month. It will be done from the first day of the month till the 5th of every month.”

The next survey will be conducted on August 1, Jain said, adding that more samples will be taken this time as compared to the last.

For the last exercise, survey teams were formed, blood samples were collected from selected individuals after taking written informed consent, and then their sera were tested for the IgG antibodies.

As many as 21,387 samples were collected during the survey. Out of the 11 districts, eight have seroprevalence of more than 20 percent. In the central, north-east, north, and Shahdara districts, the seroprevalence is 27 percent.

Delhi’s south-west area has 12.95 percent seroprevalence, the least in the city, followed by south and west Delhi at 18.61 percent and 19.13 percent, respectively.

1,500 Bengaluru city buses resume ops

0

The Bengaluru City bus service resumed operations on Wednesday, an official said. However, the services will be available for only 14 hours a day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

As the recently imposed lockdown was lifted, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) resumed its services starting with 1,500 buses at 5 a.m. on all major traffic routes, excluding the containment zones. Depending on the pattern of passenger traffic, the BMTC will later think of increasing the number of services.

“In view of the orders of the government, BMTC will operate its services from Wednesday to the general public,” said an official of the road transport corporation, making it clear that no passenger will be allowed to board any bus without a face mask.

“Mandatory use of facemask as per government notification for covering mouth and nose. Passengers without facemask are not allowed,” he said.

Similarly, in the event of all the seats in a bus getting occupied, additional passengers will not be allowed to embark, all the while maintaining social distancing will be mandatory while boarding as well as alighting.

“If all the seats are occupied on the bus, passengers shall not board the bus and wait for the next bus. Passengers suffering from fever and other ailments should refrain from traveling,” said the official.

With 1,714 infections on Tuesday, Bengaluru continues to report the highest number of cases in the southern state, raising its tally to 34,943 cases, out of which 26,746 are active.

In a positive development, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) Chikkaballapura Division Controller V. Basavaraju personally went to receive employees who recovered from COVID at Morarji Desai Residential Hostel COVID Care Centre (CCC) in Mastenahalli of Chintamani Taluk.

The road transport corporation has also arranged a bus to ferry the discharged employees to their respective hometowns from Chintamani bus depot.

However, KSRTC did not reveal how many employees were discharged.

On Tuesday, Karnataka reported 3,649 new COVID-19 cases, leading to its tally breaching the 70,000 marks.

It is business as usual for Chinese mobile brands in India

0

While social media and its troll armies are brutal most of the time, it is also a blessing in disguise for those who wish to just let bad feelings vanish quickly so that things can be brought back on track. This is exactly what happened with Chinese smartphone brands who are now witnessing business as usual in India after a turbulent anti-China sentiment rally in past days.

With the military aggression by China over the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which left 20 Indian soldiers killed last month, the consumer sentiment ran high amid growing chorus for boycotting Chinese goods in the country.

The anti-China sentiments are still out there but when it comes to the mobile industry, in the absence of any equal or superior alternatives, Indians have no choice but to make a beeline for the affordable, premium and feature-packed Chinese devices which Indian MILK (Micromax, Intex, Lava, and Karbonn) brands cannot match.

The sales are coming back to normal, the Chinese brand CEOs are more mellowed and now focused on the job at hand, the numbers are moving north again and fresh launches are making headlines once again.

Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), told IANS recently that people will make a beeline for smartphones as they “realize the great value of it now” so the demand “will stay healthy for the entry-level and premium phones” as the country unlocks.

According to Faisal Kawoosa, Founder & Chief Analyst of market intelligence firm techARC, the anger against Chinese brands was more social media-centric than on the actual ground.

“There are two factors why the anti-China sentiments did not convert into an impactful movement. First, in the growth segment of Rs 15,000-Rs 35,000, you don’t have non-Chinese options other than Samsung. If anyone was looking for a smartphone, four out of five times, he or she would have no choice but to buy a Chinese brand,” Kawoosa told IANS.

“Second factor is that right now, nine out of 10 buyers are looking for a smartphone out of an emergency. There could be reasons like phones completely conked off or looking for a device to let kids attend online classes etc,” he added.

The stark truth is that the mobile supply chain has deep roots in China and Indian brands have nowhere to be seen and just an eLocal key liye Vocal’ call is not sufficient unless things start moving on the ground.

Not just Chinese brands, the fluid market situation has also allowed non-Chinese brands like Samsung, Apple, Nokia, Asus, and others to realign their strategies and regain the lost market share in the face of fierce Chinese competition.

According to Counterpoint Research, Chinese smartphone brands captured 72 percent of the India market in 2019, compared to 60 percent a year ago.

In the second quarter (April-June) that was heavily impacted by the lockdowns, Xiaomi led with 31 percent overall market share, shipping 5.3 million smartphone units, according to market research firm Canalys.

Vivo maintained the second position, shipping 3.7 million units, and grew its market share to 21.3 percent from 19.9 percent in Q1. Samsung was third, with 2.9 million smartphones being shipped to the country.

Tarun Pathak, Associate Director at Counterpoint, said that the anti-Chinese sentiments are there but due to lack of options, the sales of all brands are now improving.

“We have seen several fresh launches from Chinese OEMs in the last few days, be it Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo, and now OnePLus with its affordable premium Nord’ brand. The momentum is returning after a severely impacted second quarter and the demand is now stabilizing,” Pathak told IANS.

What about the eLocal ke liye Vocal’ call?

“I think we have to take a more rationale call. Let us first see how much value addition can be achieved within India and encourage all players in the game to go for local procurement in such cases. This way at least whatever is available in India can be consumed reducing the dependency on non-local products,” explained Kawoosa.

The country should not project eLocal ke liye Vocal’ as something which is against any country or brand.

“Rather, we must encourage the creation of a system where even non-local companies contribute significantly. We cannot simply discount the infrastructure, expertise, and experience China has built over the years in electronics manufacturing. Even for the eVocal ke liye Local’ call, we will have to have deeper ties with the Chinese manufacturing ecosystem,” Kawoosa elaborated.

NASA’s ‘robot hotel’ attached to space station

0

Two NASA astronauts have installed a tools storage unit, dubbed robot hotel, to the outside of the International Space Station, freeing up living space inside the station.

The “robot hotel”, officially called the Robotic Tool Stowage (RiTS), was attached to the station’s Mobile Base System (MBS) during a spacewalk conducted by NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Chris Cassidy on Tuesday.

The MBS is a moveable platform that provides power to the external robots, NASA said.

This special location allows RiTS to traverse around the station alongside a robot that will use the tools it stores.

“RiTS provides thermal and physical protection for tools stored on the outside of the station, not only freeing up room onboard but also allowing the Canadian Space Agency’s Dextre robot to access them more quickly,” said RiTS Hardware Manager Mark Neuman.

The first step in the RiTS installation process involved preparing the unit inside the space station.

The astronauts unpacked RiTS’ occupants from storage — two units of a tool called the Robotic External Leak Locator (RELL) — and affixed them inside RiTS’ aluminum housing.

The installation required the astronauts to mechanically attach RiTS to an available worksite socket then mate two electrical cables to unused power outlets on the MBS.

The power connection was critical to enabling heaters within RiTS that keep the RELL tools from getting too cold.

Apart from installing the robot hotel, the two NASA astronauts completed a number of other tasks designed to upgrade the International Space Station systems.

This was the 10th spacewalk for each astronaut.

Market geared up to aid India achieve $5tn economy mark: SEBI Chairman

0

India’s equity market is geared up to aid the country to achieve the $5 trillion economy mark, SEBI Chairman Ajay Tyagi said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Ficci’s 17th Annual Capital Market Conference ‘CAPAM2020’, Tyagi said the equity market systems are well geared up to take on the current challenges.

The theme of the conference is ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat: Role of Capital Market’.

He acknowledged that the country is passing through a difficult, stressful, and challenging time due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Besides, Tyagi called for the development of the country’s corporate bond market.

Terming the segment as critical, he pointed out that some initiatives in this regard have been taken, however, more reforms are required.
