Create facilities for tourism flow: PM to Uttarakhand

0

His remarks came during a review meeting over the Kedarnath Dham development and reconstruction project with the Uttarakhand government via video conferencing. Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat and other senior state officials also participated in the discussion.

Laying out his vision for the reconstruction of the shrine, Modi said that the state government should envision and design development projects for holy sites like Kedarnath and Badrinath in a way and manner that stands the test of time and is yet eco-friendly and in harmony with nature and its surroundings.

Keeping in mind the present situation and comparatively lean pressure in terms of tourists and pilgrims to the holy sites, the Prime Minister suggested that the “present construction season could be utilized for completing pending works by proper distribution of labor pools, keeping in mind the norms of social distancing. This will help create facilities and infrastructure to better sustain tourism flows in the years to come”.

As part of specific suggestions, Modi also gave directions for further development of other heritage and religious spots in the stretch extending from Ramban to Kedarnath. This work will be in addition to the re-development of the main shrine in Kedarnath.

The meeting also saw detailed discussions on topics related to the status of development of Brahma Kamal vatika (garden) and museum to greet pilgrims-route to Vasuki Taal, redevelopment of old town quarters and properties of historical significance keeping in-tact their original architectural facade as well as other facilities like eco-friendly parking spaces at a proper distance from the shrine and at regular intervals.

On this day: India clinch first win at Lord’s in 11 attempts

Three years after etching their name in history books, Kapil Dev’s troops returned to the iconic Lord’s cricket ground to end one of their most storied droughts in the longest format.

On this day in 1986, India won their first-ever Test at Lord’s which came after 11 attempts as they got the better of David Gower’s England by five wickets.

After being put to bat, England was restricted to just 294. Graham Gooch top-scored with a fine 114 while Derek Pringle hit a half-century. Chetan Sharma was the pick of Indian bowlers as he scalped a five-wicket haul.

Dilip Vengsarkar’s unbeaten century meant India reached 341 in their first essay, taking a 47-run innings lead. Graham Dilley picked up four wickets for the hosts.

England, in the second innings, faired poorly as they were bundled out for just 180 with Kapil Dev getting rid of four batsmen.

As India was chasing a small target of 134, they lost four wickets for just 78 on the board and half their side at the score of 110.

Kapil completed his stunning all-round show by slamming 23 runs off 10 deliveries to take the visitors over the line with five wickets to spare.

This match is also remembered for Vengsarkar’s feat who became the first cricketer to score centuries in three successive Lord’s Test.

“This new structure allows the USTA to be more agile and more cost effective.”The cost-cutting measures will also see the USTA shutter its office in White Plains, New York. The restructuring had been floated as a long-term project in 2018 but was brought forward to counter the impact of the coronavirus, which has decimated the tennis calendar.

The announcement comes with preparations for the USTA’s flagship event, the US Open, mired in uncertainty. The tournament is due to get under way in late August in New York, the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States. USTA officials are mulling a range of options for the tournament, including possibly moving it to later in the year or to another venue.

Looking back at his childhood, popular Punjabi singer-actor Ammy Virk recalled how he always thought of representing India as a part of the Army or in a sport. Although his childhood dream was never fulfilled, Ammy got a chance to somewhat realise both his dreams in reel life.

Ammy is all set to make his Bollywood debut in Kabir Khan’s “83”, where he plays fast bowler Balwinder Sandhu, who was part of the Indian team that won the first-ever cricket World Cup for the country in 1983.

Then, in Abhishek Dudhaiya’s patriotic drama “Bhuj: The Pride Of India”, he plays the role of a Flight Officer. The film is set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

“In my childhood, I always had a dream of choosing a career where I would represent India at some level, be it through the Army or through some sport. Thankfully, I’ve got a chance to represent India in my movies, and that too in my debut films in Bollywood,” Ammy told IANS.

About his two Bollywood projects, he continued: “It feels surreal to wear that Indian cricket jersey in ’83’ and a pilot’s uniform in ‘Bhuj’. The death toll now is 53 and the total number of corona cases has soared to 991. However, District Magistrate P. N.Singh said 882 had recovered while 116 were under treatment. The number of samples had increased to 15,498.

Health officials explained that the surge in cases was due to increase in sample tests. A large number of deaths were of patients who had a past history of morbidities.

Officials claimed that 4,37,642 houses had been surveyed, which meant more than 16 lakh people in the district have been screened so far. This number is the highest in Uttar Pradesh.

As markets opened, after the announcement of Unlock-1, traffic on the main streets has increased. This has put additional pressure on the policemen. To ensure people observe social distancing and wearing of masks, the police has upped the vigil. On Tuesday, 4,476 vehicles were checked for violation of traffic rules. A total of 1,156 owners was given the tickets.

The district authorities in anticipation of a surprise visit by the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have started preparations to present a better profile of the city. Medicare facilities at the district hospital and the S.N. Medical College, were being streamlined and grievances were being addressed urgently.

Health department officials said, private hospitals were being encouraged to open their doors to patients, suffering from non-Covid ailments.

Meanwhile, Several associations of parents have complained to the administration against schools compelling them to pay fees for the past three months, though children have stayed home during the lockdown.

Rakul Preet is seen on Mumbai streets

0

After a series of lockdowns due to coronavirus, the Unlock1.0 turned interesting as the paps started capturing many celebrity faces again after a long time. While Kareena’s run around the house stole the internet yesterday, here is one celebrity who just can’t live without working out.

One of the fitness-obsessed celebrities, Rakul Preet is seen on Mumbai streets in her usual workout attire heading towards a workout place. While many other celebrities were busy adding kilos to their bodies by junk eating and do nothing, how is Rakul Preet just the same or even on better shape post lockdown?

Rakul and Pragya Jaiswal were snapped today at Bandra in their gym attire. Anyway, it is good to see our favorite actors coming out and showing their faces to paps, of course with masks and social distancing guidelines.

The lockdown may commence once agin after 10 June

0

The spread of global infection, covid19, is like never-ending in Telangana and ever since unlock1.0, the state is observing a huge spike in cases. At least 100 plus cases are being reported each day, leaving the locals in extreme panic and fear.

Moreover, the relaxations by the government like the opening of shops and malls made Telangana streets heavily crowded with very few people following social distancing norms.

The Chief Minister KCR has convened an important meeting today on Monday at Pragati Bhavan to review coronavirus cases in GHMC limits. The rumours from sources came in that KCR might reimpose the lockdown in the city with stricter rules, similar to the first and second phases.

After suffering unpleasant results of an action, that is, the unexpected spike in cases after a few relaxations is now leaving the government in thoughts about changing its decision.

However, the clarification on this will be out once KCR holds a press meet and states his decisions. So far, the lockdown may commence once agin after 10 June, but without official confirmation, one needs to see what’s approaching us.

Currently, the state has temples, restaurants, shopping malls, street shops and religious centres opened. Also, the majority of the people when surveyed has shown that they prefer complete lockdown until 30 June, instead of relaxations to avoid the dangers of repercussions.

A Mumbai Police said Sonu Sood was stopped by RPF

0

Actor Sonu Sood, who has been arranging transport for migrant workers stranded in Mumbai and has faced criticism from the Shiv Sena for “enacting a political script written by BJP”, was stopped outside the Bandra Terminus in Mumbai by police from meeting labourers.

A Mumbai Police official said the actor was stopped by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) when he reached the station on Monday night to meet some labourers, and added that they have not received any complaint so far in this connection. The migrant labourers were supposed to take the Shramik Special train from Bandra Terminus to Uttar Pradesh.

Mumbai’s Nirmal Nagar police station’s senior inspector Shashikant Bhandare told news agency PTI that “The actor was stopped by the RPF, not by us. He wanted to meet labourers who were going to their native place. We have not received any complaint regarding this till now.”

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday wondered whether the BJP propped up Sonu Sood to “offer help” to migrant workers from north India stranded in Maharashtra amidst the lockdown, with the political motive to show the Uddhav Thackeray government in poor light.

In his weekly column ‘Rokhthok’ in Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, Sanjay Raut questioned the sudden rise of “Mahatma” Sood on the social scene of Maharashtra during the lockdown.

Mr Raut also referred to an alleged “sting operation” against Sonu Sood ahead of the 2019 general elections, saying he had agreed to promote the BJP-led government at various platforms through his official social media accounts. However, later that day Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray lauded Sonu Sood’s initiative to arrange buses for stranded migrant workers.

The actor met Uddhav Thackeray at the latter’s residence ‘Matoshree’ in suburban Bandra on Sunday night. On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh backed Sonu Sood for his work for stranded migrant workers, and questioned the Maharashtra government’s criticism of the actor.

COVID-19 cases are doubling every 12-13 days in Delhi

0

Delhi will have 5.5 lakh coronavirus cases by July 31 based on the current doubling rate of the infection, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said today, predicting a huge demand for hospital beds a day after his government’s decision to reserve beds for residents was cancelled by the Lieutenant Governor.

COVID-19 cases are doubling every 12-13 days in Delhi, Mr Sisodia said after a meeting today with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and top central officials.”5.5 lakh COVID-19 cases are expected in Delhi by July 31. We will need 80,000 beds by then,” he told reporters.By the Delhi government’s estimates, by June 15 there will be 44,000 cases, one lakh cases by 30 June and 2.25 lakh cases by July 15.

Mr Sisodia said he had urged the Lieutenant Governor to reconsider his move to strike down the Delhi Government’s order reserving hospitals except for those run by the centre for the city’s residents. Mr Baijal refused to reconsider his decision and it was not taken up in the meeting, he said.Assessing a steep curve for Delhi’s virus cases in the coming weeks, Mr Sisodia said 50 per cent of all beds in Delhi were generally occupied by those who came for treatment from outside.

“Now we see that there might be a situation that 80,000 beds would be needed by end of July – that too only for residents of Delhi, not outsiders… so where will this come from? What is being done about it,” the Deputy Chief Minister questioned.

“We brought up this scenario during today’s meeting but nothing was discussed. We feel the only way beds may be available is if all other planned medical procedures can be put on hold for a later date and the focus is on COVID-19… we are still thinking what needs to be done.”

Mr Sisodia also told reporters that according to central officials, Delhi was not in the community transmission stage. His colleague Satyendra Jain, city Health Minister, said half the virus cases in Delhi could not be traced to any source. Asked whether this could be seen as community transmission, Mr Jain said: “Not if the centre doesn’t declare it.”
