A controversy has been surrounding actress Jyothika’s upcoming movie ‘Pon Magal Vandhal’ as there came reports that the film is gearing up for OTT release on Amazon Prime. This is said to have not gone down well with Tamil Nadu theatres management and expressed their disapproval with producer of the film Suriya.

Reacting on this, media claimed that Suriya fumed over theatres managements and made it clear that he would go ahead with the release of ‘Pon Magal Vandhal’ on OTT.

However, the team of Suriya has issued a clarification on the statements that are doing rounds in the media circles. They added that Suriya never commented in harsh way but accepted the issue of OTT release of the film is going on. Further the team said, the discussions are on between producer Suriya and theatres management.

Suriya himself is personally looking into the issue and very soon the talks will come to a logical conclusion so that none will get affected by this. Hope this will settle things for now as unmade comments by Suriya are going viral on the social media.

Delhi gets over 4 lakh requests from stranded persons

0

More than four lakh people have registered at the Delhi government’s website for going home, with the city government arranging transport for about 65,000 migrants, the official data said.

Speaking to IANS, an official said a fresh order has been issued by the Delhi government directing for publicizing the weblink https://epass.jantasamavad.org among stranded persons and also counselling the migrants against travelling on foot and walking on railway tracks.

“More than four lakh people have registered at the website for going home. About 65,000 have been sent to their home states since the travel was allowed,” the official told IANS on Tuesday.

The official said transport is being arranged for more and more people as more requests are coming each day.

“This is an ongoing process. After we receive a request, we forward it to their home state and after their approval, the demand for a train is forwarded to the Ministry of Railways,” the official said.

The order, signed by the Delhi Chief Secretary, said District Magistrates should check around railway stations and ISBTs to ensure that migrants are shifted to the nearest shelter homes in the district by buses arranged by the administration.

“The Delhi Chief Secretary has directed that it has to be ensured that the movement of stranded migrant workers who are willing to go their home states is facilitated and the stranded migrant workers appropriately persuaded and counselled that they should not be walking on road and railway tracks when they can travel in buses, trains,” the official said.

The order, according to the official, also said that the information on the arrangements for travel in special buses and Shramik specials should be widely disseminated among migrant workers.

The Chief Secretary, in the order, a copy of which is with IANS, also said that the provision of food and lodging should be made for the migrants and finally district Nodal Officers or additional District Magistrates concerned should make their travel plan state-wise and integrate them with the scheduled trains leaving Delhi.

“Special buses from railway stations, to ferry the passengers arriving by trains to their home, shall be engaged wherever public/personal transport is not available, subject to maintaining proper social distancing norms.”

The order said necessary security arrangements should be made by the police at all places in order to facilitate smooth movement of stranded persons.

“State Nodal Officers in coordination with the State/UT specific Nodal Officers and District Nodal Officers shall assess the requirement of additional trains for migrant persons and convey the same to the Ministry of Railways,” the order said.

The order came days after the Chief Secretary ordered the officials concerned to ensure that the migrant workers do not walk on roads or railway tracks and should be taken to the nearest shelter facilities, if found doing so.

As per the official data, over 18,000 people were housed in about 340 shelters across the city.

The government has also arranged about 1,900 Food Centres catering to over million beneficiaries daily twice.

Thousands of migrants are stuck at different places away from home due to sudden announcement of the lockdown from March 25.

The workers have started returning to their native villages and hometowns on foot or in overcrowded vehicles, resulting in deaths and fatal accidents.

Atrial fibrillation risk not linked to the amount of body fat: Study

0

Researchers have revealed that that the risk of atrial fibrillation is not linked to the amount of body fat, but instead to large muscle mass, or more precisely, a high fat-free weight.

Atrial fibrillation affects as many as one in three persons in the industrialized/Western world during a lifespan. And when it comes to preventing the condition, the medical doctor’s best advice is often weight loss. However, a new study, published in the journal Trends in Cardiovascular Medicine, shows that the risk of atrial fibrillation is not linked to the amount of fat, but rather to the fat-free weight.

“It appears that people with high fat-free weight do have a high risk, regardless of whether they have a lot of fat on their body or not,” said study researcher from Fenger-Gron Aarhus University in Denmark.

In many people’s eyes, large muscle mass is likely seen as the opposite of high body fat, but it turns out that to some extent, the same people have a lot of both.”And when these people have a high risk of atrial fibrillation, we tend to interpret it as proof that too much fat is harmful,” Grom added.

The study, which is based on a review of the literature on the importance of body fat and fat-free mass for the risk of atrial fibrillation, also contains a meta-analysis which summarises the results of all relevant studies in the field.

The starting point for the work was, among other things, the research group’s own study, in which they analyzed the body mass of 56,000 participants in the Danish ‘Diet, Cancer, and Health’ project.

“Our results point to the importance of remembering to also look for this condition in people who are muscular and without overwhelming body fat – even though they appear to be very healthy and robust,” he said

However, the researcher emphasizes that the results encompass only the risk of atrial fibrillation and do not gainsay that too much body fat increases the incidence of infarctions, diabetes, and many other health problems.

Ponting gets nostalgic sharing photo of longest used bat

0

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting on Tuesday shared pictures of his favorite cricket bat that he used most in his illustrious career.

“Five international hundreds with this baby, four of them against South Africa. The 120 and 143* were made in my 100th Test at the SCG.

“And the 164 was made in the famous 434 v 438 ODI at the Wanderers. Used it for as long as I could and as you can see it’s pretty worn out,” Ponting said in a tweet.

Rated as one of the best batters of all time, Ponting played 168 Tests, 375 ODIs and 17 T20Is for Australia scoring 27,483 runs across formats.

Ponting, who is currently the head coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals, also led Australia to two World Cup victories in 2003 and 2007.

The 45-year old recently said it will be difficult for batsman Usman Khawaja to make a return into the national team after being omitted from Cricket Australia’s central contract list for 2020-21.

Ponting feels Khawaja’s inconsistency is a big problem and so far in his career, the southpaw has only shown glimpses of the brilliance which he is capable of.

“I honestly think now he’s going to find it difficult (to get back into the Australian team) and I feel for him,” Ponting told ABC Grandstand as per ESPNCricinfo.

“I love Usman Khawaja, I got really close to him over the last 10 years since he made his debut and I talk to him quite regularly.

“I’ve always felt he’s a very good player and we probably never saw the absolute best of him at international cricket. We saw glimpses of it, and dribs and drabs, but not the consistently good player I thought he could have been for Australia.”

Briefing the media over lockdown extension in Telangana last night, KCR told media persons on what Telangana cabinet has discussed on various prevailing issues including Centre’s package.

KCR has dubbed Union Government’s Rs 20 lakh crore economic stimulus package as “cheating” and “bogus”. He went onto state that it is against the spirit and interest of federal system. KCR alleged that the Modi-led Union Government is trying to rule over the states by taking advantage of the financial crisis that was caused due to lockdown and Covid-19 pandemic.

Stating that the Centre’s package is “hollow” and mere “manipulation of numbers”, KCR said Telangana is rejecting Centre’s package. KCR went onto accuse Modi-led government of having “Feudal Attitude”. “Strictly speaking, the Central government has not doled out even Rs one lakh crore, out of the entire package,” KCR stated. He went onto blast Centre and alleged that it is treating states as “beggars”

“States did not expect these bogus schemes from Centre in this hour of crisis. We wanted financial assistance from the Centre. States never expected to be treated as beggars. This is not the way reforms should be implemented,” KCR said.

Responding to the increased borrowing limits from 3 to 5 percent of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) where states could borrow more for the current fiscal year which is part of the Centre’s financial package and that allows Telangana could now borrow an additional Rs 20,000 crore loan, Telangana CM KCR said it is not a favour, but facility and the states need to repay anyway.

“The Centre will not give a single rupee from its pocket. Even for this, the Centre imposed several conditions for borrowing every Rs 2,500 crore, linking it to implementation of reforms like in power sector, municipal administration, one-nation-one-ration card, etc. How can the Centre impose restrictions even for borrowing loans?” he asked.

Virat Kohli, during an Instagram Live chat with Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri, recalled an incident when his father refused to bribe a cricket official, which led to Virat not getting selected in the team despite fulfilling all the merit criteria. “I have mentioned this before also. There was a time when in state cricket, a lot of things happen, you know  many factors which are not fair,” Virat Kohli told Sunil Chhetri during their over an hour-long interaction on Instagram.

“There was an opportunity, where a certain someone chose to step out of the rules and say, ‘here’s the situation you’d need a bit more than just merit to get selected’,” Kohli added. He said his father Prem was someone who worked really hard and made a living for himself by studying “under the streetlights”.

“He is the guy who studied under the streetlights, those were the circumstances at his home. From there he worked hard to become a lawyer, worked in the merchant navy as well before that. One who has worked hard doesn’t understand that language. He didn’t understand what was going on,” Kohli said, explaining his father’s hardships.

Explaining what he learnt from this experience, Kohli said: “But that taught me something that this is how the world is run. If you want to progress do something that no one else is doing. That lesson he gave me because you can only rely on your hard work and that I saw from my father who made a living, made a life for himself, and gave me the right teachings by actions.”

The Indian skipper lost his father in the middle of a Ranji Trophy match when he was playing for Delhi against Karnataka, at the age of 18.However, the young Kohli, who saw his father breath his last in the night, went to the ground the next morning and played a val

Washington suspended payments to the WHO

0

President Donald Trump threatened to permanently freeze US funding to the World Health Organization unless “substantive improvements” were made within the next 30 days. Washington suspended payments to the WHO in mid-April, accusing it of being too close to Beijing and covering up and mismanaging the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, Trump tweeted images of a letter he sent to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, saying the letter was “self-explanatory.”

In the letter, Trump lists what he says are examples of the WHO’s shortcomings in managing the pandemic, including ignoring early reports of the emergence of the virus, and being too close to China.

“It is clear the repeated missteps by you and your organization in responding to the pandemic have been extremely costly for the world. The only way forward for the World Health Organization is if it can actually demonstrate independence from China,” Trump said in the letter.
