Social Media Landscape: Research Reveals YouTube and Facebook Dominance
A recent report from the Pew Research Center revealed that YouTube and Facebook are the most widely used online Social Media platforms among US adults. Approximately 83% of US adults reported using YouTube, making it a dominant player in the online landscape. Facebook, with a 68% user base, also maintains a significant presence. Instagram follows closely, with 47% of US adults using the Social Media platform.
The findings highlight that YouTube and Facebook are the only two platforms used by majorities across all age groups. However, a notable age gap exists for YouTube, with younger adults being more active users. In contrast, the age gap for Facebook is smaller. TikTok, previously subject to calls for a ban by some Congress members, has experienced growth, with 33% of US adults now using the video-based platform, up from 21% in 2021.
The survey, conducted from May to September 2023 with 5,733 US adults, also indicated that 27% to 35% of US adults use Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and Snapchat. Additionally, 20% of respondents reported using X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit.
Age differences were stark, with platforms like Instagram (78%), Snapchat (65%), and TikTok (62%) being predominantly used by adults under 30. Those aged 30 to 49 stood out for higher usage rates on LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and Facebook. Women were more likely to use Pinterest (50%), TikTok (40%), and Instagram (54%) compared to men.
Andhra Pradesh Assembly Set for Annual Budget Session
The Andhra Pradesh Assembly’s budget session is set to commence on February 5. It will kick off with Governor S Abdul Nazeer addressing the joint session of the Assembly and Legislative Council.
The Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly will determine the duration of the session and the agenda, which includes the presentation of the vote on the account budget.
Forest Fires Hit Nallamalla in Telangana
Forest areas in Bureddypally, Domalapenta, Kommanpeta, and other parts of Nallamalla have been impacted by wildfires since late Tuesday evening and Wednesday night.
Over the past two days, forest officials have been actively working to extinguish the flames. The challenging terrain, situated on a hillock, has made accessibility difficult, preventing the use of vehicles to reach the affected areas. Forest personnel have had to trek to reach these locations, consuming considerable time, according to an official.
“Despite the challenges, our teams have successfully reached the sites and used blowers to control and extinguish the flames. Currently, the situation is under control,” mentioned the official.
The forest fires ignited late on Tuesday, presenting an alarming situation by the time the teams arrived. However, they swiftly managed to bring the situation under control. Another incident occurred on Wednesday night in Kommanpeta and Bureddypally beats, affecting approximately seven hectares of forest, noted officials.
“Both incidents were caused by human activities. Special teams are actively monitoring the situation and have been instructed to remain at the locations until normalcy is restored,” the official stated.
Forest Minister Konda Surekha has been briefed on the forest fires in Nallamalla and was assured that the situation is now under control. With the summer season approaching, the Minister has directed officials to take precautionary measures to prevent forest fires and reiterated the importance of staying vigilant to avoid such incidents in the future.

BRS President KCR Takes Oath as MLA After Recovery
On Thursday, BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao(KCR) was sworn in as a member of the State Legislative Assembly.
The former Chief Minister had won the MLA seat from the Gajwel assembly constituency in the recent polls. In December, he couldn’t take the oath with other MLAs as he had undergone total hip replacement surgery following an accidental fall.
Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar administered the oath in the presence of party leaders T Harish Rao and others. Chandrashekhar Rao had previously been elected as the leader by the BRSLP and is set to lead the party in the upcoming budget session.
Party legislators, former MLAs, and other leaders gathered at the assembly premises to give him a warm welcome.
