IPL 2023: Tim Cook spotted at DC vs KKR match after Apple store launch in Delhi

Apple CEO Tim Cook was seen enjoying some cricketing action as he was spotted in the stands during Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) IPL 2023 match at Arun Jaitley stadium, here on Thursday.

Cook made a surprise appearance in the stadium after inaugurating the Apple store in the national capital. He was seen alongside Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla and the dignitaries and officials of the Delhi & District Cricket Association.

The Apple CEO is in India for the opening of the Apple store in the country. Prior to Delhi, Cook launched India’s first Apple store at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai a couple of days ago.

After the opening of the country’s second Apple store, Cook also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On the match front, DC bowlers produced a disciplined performance in a rain-delayed game as only three KKR batters managed to touch the double-digit mark in the first innings.

On the back of Axar Patel (2/13), Kuldeep Yadav (2/15) Ishant Sharma (2/19), and Anrich Nortje’s (2/20) brilliant show, DC bowled out KKR for a paltry 127 in 20 overs.

SpaceX’s giant Starship rocket explodes after launch

SpaceX’s giant Starship rocket exploded after its launch from the US state of Texas on Thursday. The rocket got off the launch pad in SpaceX’s Starbase in South Texas but exploded minutes later. The spacecraft failed to reach orbit.

The launch was the first test flight of SpaceX’s fully integrated Starship and Super Heavy rocket, Xinhua news agency reported.

Starship experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly before stage separation, according to SpaceX.

“Today’s test will help us improve Starship’s reliability as SpaceX seeks to make life multi-planetary,” the company tweeted.

Teams will continue to review data and work toward the next flight test, said SpaceX.

“Learnt a lot for next test launch in a few months,” Elon Musk, founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer of SpaceX, tweeted.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said that the launch of SpaceX’s Starship rocket is “a good first step”.

“It looks like they got through the first stage of this big monster rocket. That’s a real accomplishment. We’ll get a report on what happened to the second stage, but I’m very encouraged that they’ve gotten along this far,” Nelson told Media.

It was the second launch attempt of Starship after the first attempt was scrapped on Monday owing to technical issues.

I will not be able to be in Madrid unfortunately,” he said.

“The injury still hasn’t healed and I can’t work out what I need to compete. ‘mini-heart’ known as organoid

A ‘mini-heart’ has been developed by German scientists, that is just 0.5 millimeters in size to study the earliest development phase of the human heart and facilitate research on diseases. The team from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) are the first researchers in the world to successfully create the ‘mini-heart’ known as organoid — containing both heart muscle cells (cardiomyocytes) and cells of the outer layer of the heart wall (epicardium).Although these do not pump blood, they can be stimulated electrically and are capable of contracting like human heart chambers. In the young history of heart organoids — the first were described in 2021 — researchers had previously created only organoids with cardiomyocytes and cells from the inner layer of the heart wall (endocardium).
Led by Alessandra Moretti, Professor of Regenerative Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease, the team developed a method for making a sort of ‘mini-heart’ using pluripotent stem cells. Around 35,000 cells are spun into a sphere in a centrifuge.

Over a period of several weeks, different signaling molecules are added to the cell culture under a fixed protocol. “In this way, we mimic the signaling pathways in the body that control the developmental programmed for the heart,” said Moretti. The team published their work in the journal Nature Biotechnology with an accompanying study published in Nature Communications. Through the analysis of individual cells the team determined that precursor cells of a type only recently discovered in mice are formed around the seventh day of the development of the organoid. “We assume that these cells also exist in the human body — if only for a few days,” said Moretti. These insights may also offer clues as to why the foetal heart can repair itself, a capability almost entirely absent in the heart of an adult human.

This knowledge could help to find new treatment methods for heart attacks and other conditions. Further, the team also showed that the organoids can be used to investigate the illnesses of individual patients. Using pluripotent stem cells from a patient suffering from Noonan syndrome — a genetic disorder that prevents normal development in various parts of the body, the researchers produced organoids that emulated characteristics of the condition in a Petri dish. Over the coming months the team plans to use comparable personalized organoids to investigate other congenital heart defects. With the possibility of emulating heart conditions in organoids, drugs could be tested directly on them in the future. “It is conceivable that such tests could reduce the need for animal experiments when developing drugs,” Moretti said.

As high inflation in Europe’s largest economy is reducing incomes, the Railway and Transport Union (EVG) and the United Services Trade Union (Verdi) have independently called for strike actions to push for higher wages.

Rail operator Deutsche Bahn expects “massive disruptions”, with all operations being affected on Friday. Despite a gradual resumption of operations from 1 p.m., services could be delayed until the early evening hours. Rail employees are demanding a wage increase of 12 per cent, but at least 650 euros ($712) a month, over a 12-month period.
At the western German airports of Dusseldorf and Cologne, as well as in Hamburg in the north of the country, the strike action by aviation security workers is to cause hundreds of cancellations.  Hamburg alone expects almost 80,000 passengers to be affected on Thursday and Friday.

Traffic in Germany has repeatedly been hit by collective bargaining strikes in recent months. At the end of March, a nationwide strike paralyzed train, bus and air traffic and also affected freight traffic. Public sector workers are demanding 10.5 per cent more pay, with a minimum increase of 500 euros a month. A proposal by an arbitration commission, which includes inflation compensations of 3,000 euros and a wage increase of 5.5 per cent, has so far been ignored by both sides, but it will be the basis for a fourth round of negotiations on Saturday.

The German Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) said it had tried to find a solution “within the bounds of what was economically feasible”.The strike would “lack any proportionality and is completely excessive”.

Lucknow Super Giants captain K.L. Rahul has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against the Rajasthan Royals.

Rahul was pulled up for a Code of Conduct breach in Match 26 played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, the Indian Premier League informed in a statement.

“As it was the team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Rahul was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the IPL informed in a release on Thursday.

Rajasthan Royals had an 87-run opening partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler but impressive performances by Lucknow Super Giants bowlers led by Avesh Khan’s 3/25 and Marcus Stoinis’ 2/28 helped their team win by ten runs on Wednesday.

At the mid-stage of the game, Rajasthan kept Lucknow to 154/7 despite Kyle Mayers making 51 and it looked like a below-par total on a two-paced pitch.

Till the 11th over, Rajasthan didn’t lose any wickets and seemed to be cruising toward the target. But Stoinis taking out both openers got the match in Lucknow’s favor as Rajasthan lost four wickets for 32 runs from overs 12-17. When VIP stand got sealed at Jaipur’s SMS stadium a few hours ahead of IPL match

Although an IPL match was held in Jaipur after three years here, what has gone viral on social media are the scenes from the SMS stadium when the state sports minister got the VIP stand sealed a few hours before the game began.

There was a major controversy ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Wednesday at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Stadium. Sports Minister Ashok Chandna sealed the VIP stand alleging that it was constructed without permission.

As pass-ticket holders were not given entry after the VIP stand was sealed, there was an uproar. Police officials also had a spat with Sports Minister Ashok Chandna.

However, after the conditional consent just before the match, the controversy stopped and the spectators got entry into the stadium. But this dispute has been postponed for just one match.

So all eyes are set on whether any agreement is struck between the Rajasthan Royals and the Sports Department, or else in the coming days, more uproar can be seen regarding this issue.

As per sources, the Rajasthan Sports Council officials wrote a letter to Sports Minister Ashok Chandna informing him about the temporary boxes which have been made near their room in the stadium, are illegal.

Along with this, personnel is also being prohibited from coming and going during the working day. On the basis of these letters, Chandna reached the stadium and asked to remove the box as well as the VIP stand, saying that it was wrong.

Chandna said that Rajasthan Royals have made concrete construction in the stadium without permission. For this, he should have taken permission from the sports department.

Rajasthan Royals said that they have not done a single work without permission. Royals officials said that they have taken permission for everything. Such a big franchisee will not do any work without permission, they claimed.

Meanwhile, eyes are set on the next match.

Further, pictures of Minister Ashok Chandna went viral on social media where he is seen sitting in the same VIP stand with veterans which he was pressured to be removed.
