More than Rs 40,700 cr sanctioned under Stand-Up India scheme in last 7 years

The government of India has been providing many schemes for seven years and has given over Rs 40, 700 crores to almost 1,80,630 accounts.

“Stand-Up India scheme is an important milestone in promoting entrepreneurship among SC, ST, and women,” Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on the occasion of the scheme completing seven years on Wednesday.

The Stand-Up India Scheme was launched on April 5, 2016, to promote entrepreneurship at the grassroots level focusing on economic empowerment and job creation.

This scheme has been extended up to the year 2025.

The scheme was launched to address the challenges faced by the SC, ST, and women entrepreneurs while setting up businesses or greenfield enterprises in manufacturing, services, or the trading sector and activities allied to agriculture.

“The scheme has created an ecosystem which facilitates and continues to provide a supportive environment for setting up green field enterprises through access to loans from bank branches of all scheduled commercial banks,” the finance minister added.

Argentine midfielder Battaglia joins Atletico Mineiro

Former Argentina international midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia has joined Atletico Mineiro after parting ways with Mallorca, the Brazilian Serie A club said.

Battaglia, who will be tied to Atletico until December 2024, is the Belo Horizonte side’s ninth new signing this year, a Xinhua report said.

“I’m in good physical shape and I’m now at the club’s disposal,” Battaglia told reporters.

The 31-year-old is particularly looking forward to taking part in the Copa Libertadores — South America’s top club competition — which begins this week. Atletico will make their debut in this year’s tournament with a home clash against Paraguay’s Libertad on Thursday.

“The Copa Libertadores was an important factor in my decision to come here,” the No. 6 said. “I hope we can have a good campaign and make our fans happy.”

Battaglia has been capped twice for Argentina’s national team in a career that has also included spells at Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon and Spain’s Alaves.

Apple reveals first glimpse of its grand India retail store in Mumbai

After years of wait, Apple on Wednesday finally lifted the curtains off its much-awaited own branded retail store in India, as it ramps up plans to boost local manufacturing in a fillip to the Central government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Apple revealed the barricade of its first brick-and-mortar store in India at Jio World Drive Mall in Mumbai, officially marking the upcoming opening of Apple BKC.

Inspired by the iconic ‘Kaali Peeli’ taxi art unique to Mumbai, the Apple BKC creative includes colorful interpretations of the decals combined with many Apple products and services that will be available for our customers to discover.

The creative for the store features a bright welcome to people passing by with the classic Apple greeting, “Hello Mumbai”.

“To celebrate the opening of the new store, visitors can download the new Apple BKC wallpaper and move to the sounds of Mumbai with a specially curated playlist on Apple Music,” said the company.

The company is all set to open the gates of the India retail store to the public this month.

Apple will also possibly launch a retail store in New Delhi at a later date.

The tech giant has set another all-time revenue record for the India market, along with quarterly records in Brazil and India.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said recently that looking at the business in India, “We set a quarterly revenue record and grew very strong double digits year over year and so we feel very good about how we performed”.

“That’s despite the headwinds that we talked about. India is a hugely exciting market for us and a major focus. We brought the online store there in 2020. We will soon bring Apple Retail there,” Cook announced in February.

He said that Apple actually did fairly well through Covid in India.

“That’s the reason why we are investing thereby bringing retail there, bringing the online store there, and putting out a significant amount of energy there. I’m very bullish on India,” the CEO added.

Apple sold 2 million iPhones in India in the holiday quarter (Q4) of 2022, registering 18 per cent growth (quarter-on-quarter) for its flagship device.

The Indian market share of iPhones reached 5.5 per cent for 2022, an 11 per cent growth (year-on-year).

Osasuna booked a place in the Copa del Rey final on Tuesday night after Pablo Ibanez’s goal in the 115th minute gave them a 1-1 draw away to Athletic Bilbao and a 2-1 aggregate win, here.

Ibanez placed a volley into the corner of the net to put his side through after Osasuna was kept in the tie by a string of fine saves from keeper Sergio Herrera.

Herrera made five or six vital saves as Athletic attacked, but once again paid for their inability to find the net.

The home side started looking to get quickly back on level terms in the tie, with Gorka Guruzeta seeing his effort well smothered by Osasuna keeper Sergio Herrera in the seventh minute, a Xinhua report said.

The game was as intense as you would expect in the return leg of a semifinal between the local rivals and Athletic midfielder Mikel Vesga was the first player booked after a challenge from behind.

Oihan Sancet, looking to celebrate his new contract with Athletic, got into good positions on the edge of the Osasuna area on a couple of occasions, but nobody was able to get onto his pullbacks.

Nico Williams fired wide as Athletic continued to press and Herrera did well to parry Oscar de Marcos’ diving header after a good cross from the young winger. The save was to no avail, however, as Athletic leveled the tie from the resulting corner as Vesga got a flick and Inaki Williams scored from close range.

At the other end, Kike Garcia had a good chance to level for Osasuna, but Julen Agirrezabala blocked his shot and Yuri cleared as Ruben Garcia hurled himself at the loose ball.

Athletic had chances to win the game in the second half, but Nico Williams twice fired over when he should have at least hit the target, with his second miss coming after Herrera had done well to save from Raul Garcia.

Herrera also produced a block to deny Inigo Martinez at the far post as the game went into extra time. He then denied Vesga from a corner in extra time, allowing Ibanez his moment of glory as Osasuna returned to a cup final for the first time since 2005.

Wednesday’s second semifinal sees FC Barcelona defend a 1-0 first-leg lead at home to Real Madrid.

Charleston Open: Badosa advances past Sherif in first round

Paula Badosa, the No.12 seed delivered one of her cleanest performances of the year to defeat Mayar Sherif 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of the Charleston Open, here.

The Charleston Open has historically been a happy hunting ground for Badosa. The Spaniard was a semifinalist in 2021, scoring her first win over a reigning World No.1 along the way with an upset of Ashleigh Barty, and a quarterfinalist in 2022.

“It’s impossible to forget. I was No.70 in the world, and this is where it all started,” Badosa said.

This year, Badosa arrives in Charleston seeking to arrest a slide down the rankings. Just under a year ago, she hit a career-high of No.2; this week, she has fallen to No.29. But she was able to navigate the danger of Sherif’s shotmaking with a consistent display.

“I had a lot of days from Miami to here to practice,” Badosa said wryly, referencing her third-round exit to Elena Rybakina in Florida.

“So I really worked very hard. I’m playing well, I think. I hope it starts here again,” he added.

Badosa will next face either former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez or returning mother-of-two Evgeniya Rodina.

Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has denied talking about her former husband Naga Chaitanya and actress Sobhita Dhulipala’s dating rumors.

Samantha reportedly had commented about Chaitanya and Sobhita after an old picture of the two at a restaurant went viral online. In the viral image, Chaitanya was seen posing with a chef while Shobhita was seen sitting at a table behind them.

A report claimed that Samantha had reacted to rumors of her ex-husband dating the actress.

Samantha took to Twitter, where she shared the reports and dismissed it she wrote: “I never said this!!”

The actress tied the knot with Chaitanya in October 2017. However, it was in 2021, when the two announced their separation.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is campaigning across the country to connect with minority communities, especially the Muslim community, has claimed that the safety of Muslim women is the priority for the Narendra Modi-led Central government.

In an attempt to convey the message that the government has done a big and historic work of providing equal rights and security to Muslim women by declaring triple talaq illegal through Parliament, the saffron party on Tuesday took to its Twitter account depicting the entire sequence of events declaring the practice as illegal.

The video depicts the reactions of Muslim women along with the passing of the motion in the Rajya Sabha to declare triple talaq as illegal and the speech delivered by the Prime Minister from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

Claiming to have empowered and protected Muslim women, the BJP wrote in a second tweet: “Triple Talaq law empowers and protects Muslim women!”

The Triple Talaq Bill was passed in Parliament on July 30, 2019, making it illegal.

Filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘RRR’ has got over 1 million footfalls in Japan and is reportedly the first Indian film to do so in the country.

The Ram Charan and NTR Jr.-starrer film was released in October last year. The official Twitter handle of RRR movie shared news about the movie getting 1 million footfalls in 164 days of its theatrical run.

The tweet read: “#RRRMovie records 1 Million+ footfall in 164 Days and continues its rocking run.”

An excited Rajamouli too wrote: “Showered with 1 Million hugs from Japanese fans…Arigato Guzaimasu #RRRinJapan.”

It was in February when the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from ‘RRR’ was feted with the 95th Oscar award in the Original Song category. It also brought home a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award honor.

‘RRR’ also stars Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, and Shriya Saran and tells the fictional story of two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju, and Komaram Bheem, and their fight against the British Raj.

Set in the 1920s, the plot explores the undocumented period in their lives when both the revolutionaries chose to go into obscurity before they began the fight for their country.

FIFA launches new mobile game called ‘AI League’

Football’s global governing body FIFA has launched a new mobile game called ‘AI League’ which is now available on Android in open beta.

According to The Verge, the game with an iOS version is also in the works.

AI League, created by the New Zealand-based game studio Altered State Machine, is defined as a “4-on-4 casual football game played between AI-controlled characters, with player input at fun and tactical moments”.

Moreover, the report said that the players act as the coach and owners of their AI teams, with each AI footballer given unique AI traits that define their strengths and weaknesses.

They can also collect and trade characters to create a team with their favorite talent combinations.

FIFA earlier announced the AI League as part of a slate of Web3 experiences to lead its post-EA future. However, EA (Electronic Arts) and FIFA have now officially separated.

Further, the report mentioned that surprisingly, the game is named after the 2022 men’s World Cup in Qatar, which took place last year, rather than the 2023 women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which begins this summer.

Meanwhile, EA is laying off around 6 percent of its workforce amid global macroeconomic uncertainties.

According to reports, EA had about 13,000 employees last year, which means a 6 percent cut could cut around 780 jobs.
