Channel pages on YouTube’s main website and mobile apps now include a “Podcasts” tab between “Live” and “Playlists”, which according to Google, is available globally, reports 9to5Google.

This new tab displays playlists that YouTube Creators have designated as podcasts.

Only content marked as podcasts will appear in YouTube Music.

Those users who are waiting for that can use the new Podcasts tab to gauge what shows they listen to will appear in YouTube Music and encourage Creators to upload episodes as videos.

Stand with CM Bommai but not joining BJP, says Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep

Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep on Wednesday announced that he will support Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in the upcoming Assembly elections, but clarified that he is not joining the BJP or any other political party.

Talking to reporters here, Sudeep said that he shared a good bond with Bommai since his childhood.

“I call him ‘mama’. There is no question of my stand or politics in my decision. I have been seeing CM Bommai since I was a child. He stood with me at the time of my crisis in the film industry. He is the person whom I love. I am here to stand with him.

“There was no godfather and few stood with me. Now, I am extending my support to him. But, I am not joining politics and I am clearing this to my fans,” he added.

“I am going to take up campaigning for CM Bommai and I will also campaign for the candidates whom he suggests. It is not possible to go to all constituencies. Leaders from other parties have also supported me. If they seek help, I will campaign for them as well. When CM Bommai stood by me without seeking my background, I was very small. Similarly, I am supporting him,” Sudeep contended.

Reacting to actor Prakash Raj’s tweet expressing his reservation at Sudeep supporting the BJP, he said that Prakash Raj is a fine artiste. “I had done ‘Ranna’ with him. I am expecting to act with him in another movie. I am not entering politics and that is the wish of my fans. It has been 27 years of struggle. This (support to Bommai) is a decision taken on humanitarian grounds,” he said.

Bommai, however, maintained that if Sudeep is supporting him, he is supporting his party (BJP) as well.

“He has not joined any political party, he has come forward to support me. I have spoken to him twice or thrice. I had told him that his campaigning is needed, though he did not join the party. Hence, he will campaign for my party,” he added.

IPL 2023: Hopefully, we’ll perform well in the rest of our home games; great to meet Pant, says Axar Patel

0

Delhi Capitals went down by six wickets against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Tuesday night.

The Gujarat Titans restricted the Delhi side to 162/8 in their 20 overs before chasing down the total in 18.1 overs.

Speaking about playing at Delhi Capitals’ home ground for the first time in four years, the DC vice-captain Axar Patel said, “It was disappointing to be on the wrong side of the result. But, it was great to play in front of our fans after a long time. I hope the fans enjoyed the game. Hopefully, we’ll perform well in the rest of our home games.”

Axar added that the Delhi side will take some time to gel together as a unit.

“It’s still early days in the tournament. I don’t think we need to work on too many aspects of our game. We are playing together after a long time so we’ll take some time to gel together as a unit. Once our combinations start working, then it’ll get better for us,” he said.

Asked about his one-handed six, the all-rounder said, “I didn’t plan the one-handed six. My bottom hand came off when I tried to extend my arms. Fortunately, I hit that ball for a six. And then I told Rishabh that the one-handed shot was for him. I was quite happy with my batting performance and I hope that I can keep performing well for Delhi Capitals.”

The all-rounder also spoke about meeting Rishabh Pant in the dressing room.

“It was great to meet Rishabh in the dressing room. Players from the Gujarat team also came to meet him. Hopefully, he recovers soon and comes back to Qila Kotla. Then both of us can play one-handed shots,” said Axar.

Delhi Capitals will take on Rajasthan Royals in their next match at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Saturday.

IPL 2023: B Sai Sudharsan leaves former TN coach surprised with scoop off Nortje in match-winning knock

0

In a chase of 163 against Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans were in trouble after losing openers and captain Hardik Pandya in power-play. But young left-handed batter B Sai Sudharsan stepped up to anchor the chase with an impressive 62 not out off 48 balls and take his team to a six-wicket victory on Tuesday.

Sudharsan was the fulcrum of Gujarat’s chase, sharing a stand of 53 for the fourth wicket with Vijay Shankar and an unbeaten partnership of 56 with David Miller for the fifth wicket to lead Gujarat to the top of the points table.

The most breathtaking shot off his bat was a scooped six off a 144-kmph full delivery from Anrich Nortje coming from round the wicket. Sudharsan had shuffled a long way and then got low to scoop Nortje off the middle of the bat. That shot from the 21-year-old Sudharsan surprised M Venkataramana, the former Tamil Nadu head coach.

“He’s definitely got a lot of time. He’s not someone who gets bogged down, he’s a very busy player. He’s got a good range of shots, easily plays against pacers at 130-140 kph speeds, and can play on both sides of the wicket. Even the scoop he played (against Nortje) surprised me a bit,” Venkataramana told Media.

“My reading says that he began to pull balls above 145 kph every time (must have propelled it) and it must have been hard to hit unless it’s clearly in the spot. It is the intelligence of Sai that was behind that shot’s execution. He used the pace of the ball to scoop it behind the wicket, and in that knock, he showed a lot of maturities and good game sense is what I say,” he added,

What stood out from Sudharsan’s unbeaten 62 was the execution of his shots and soaking in the pressure to emerge as the player of the match. The left-hander got his fifty in 44 balls with a delightful ramp off Nortje for four in the 17th over, followed by a massive swiveled six over fine leg.

“To come and do what he’s done in the last two games is very encouraging for the team. He is a seriously talented player and we need him in the squad. It’s nice to see him do really well. Pretty happy with his performance and it’s great to see him get the Man of the Match award,” said Miller on Sudharsan in the post-match press conference.

Venkataramana, under whom the left-handed batter had entered the Tamil Nadu state team in all forms of domestic cricket, credits the terrific work ethic of Sudharsan as well as the importance given to fitness in having a terrific domestic season, which was reflected in his knock against the Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

“Basically, he’s got a very good work ethic. That is one good thing, and he keeps hitting the ball and working on his fitness. His mother and father were athletes, so he’s brought up and looked after very well, as well as being educated on the importance of fitness,” he said.

“Basically, he’s a very dynamic player who works very hard on his batting. He’s done well this year, as he’s put in a lot of effort in the nets, especially in honing his technique. There’s still a lot of work there to be done, but he’s got a lot of capabilities,” he added.

In IPL 2022, Sudharsan shined briefly before being sidelined halfway. But in IPL 2023, with the number three spot vacant due to a knee injury to Kane Williamson, Sudharsan immediately seized his chance to make the spot his. Hence, it wasn’t a surprise that skipper Hardik Pandya sees the potential in him to be a future India player.

“He (Sai Sudharsan) has been batting terrifically. Credit to the support staff and to him as well. The amount of batting he’s done in the last 15 days, all the result you see is all his hard work. Going forward, if I’m not wrong, in two years, he’ll do something great for franchise cricket and eventually for India,” said Pandya.

700 firefighters work to douse massive Dhaka wholesale market fire

0

About 700 firefighters continued working on Wednesday to completely douse a massive blaze that erupted at the Bangabazar in Dhaka — the biggest wholesale market in Bangladesh — 36 hours ago.

Brigadier General Md Main Uddin, Director General (DG) of the Fire Brigade of Bangladesh, told IANS that the firefighters were part of the 12 units that are currently pressed into service to douse the flames.

The firefighters are working on the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh floors of the Anexco Tower which are warehouses.

“We had declared this building vulnerable in 2019. After that, I also gave them notice about 10 times, so that they do not conduct business here. Still, the traders conducted their business,” he said.

He said that to put out the fire in Bangabazar there was a lack of water.

“To put out the fire, we had to bring water from Shahidullah Hall with a pump. The Air Force also assisted in dousing the fire by bringing water from Hatirjheel by helicopter. We also brought water from Buriganga. Apart from the three forces, WASA also assisted us in this work.”

The fire erupted at 6.10 a.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday assured to provide the best support to the traders who suffered losses due to the blaze.

“I have already said that I will help them as much as I can and will monitor what kind of damage has been done,” she said at an event.

Describing the fire as a very tragic incident, Hasina said the suffering and cries of so many trades ahead of Eid are too much to bear.

The Prime Minister also lambasted those who attacked and vandalized the fire service headquarters, adding that they will be identified soon and action will be taken against them.

Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling promise a wholesome ride into the world of Barbie

Hollywood star Margot Robbie brings to life the famous figurine in the official trailer for Warner Bros’ ‘Barbie’. Oscar nominee Robbie leads a star-studded cast that includes a muscular Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s boy toy, Ken.

The two actors are not the only Barbie and Ken dolls in the film. Dua Lipa stars as mermaid Barbie, for instance, alongside many other actors as different iterations of the famous doll, reports Variety.

The first ‘Barbie’ trailer – featuring a nod to Stanley Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey – officially introduced the world to Robbie’s Barbie, but it didn’t reveal too much about the characters or storyline.

Since then it has been revealed that Barbie and Ken have been placed in the real world and forced to wrestle with the difficulties of no longer being just dolls.

As per Variety, Gerwig has enlisted an A-list ensemble to star alongside Robbie and Gosling, including Will Ferrell as the Mattel CEO, Connor Swindells, Nicola Coughlan, Emerald Fennell, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya, and Jamie Demetriou, as well as additional Barbie and Kens, including Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, and Ncuti Gatwa.

Directed by Gerwig, ‘Barbie’ was co-written by the director and her husband, filmmaker Noah Baumbach. Gerwig indicated she was a little apprehensive and slightly terrified when taking on the highly-anticipated project, saying: “That feeling that I had was knowing that it would be really interesting terror. Usually, that’s where the best stuff is. I am terrified of that. Anything where you’re like, ‘This could be a career-ender,’ then you’re like, ‘OK, I probably should do it’.”

IPL 2023: I keep talking to boys about plans and how we can improve, reveals Brad Hogg

0

Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg, who is currently with the Mumbai Indians squad in the IPL 2023 and has been giving training to two young spinners Kumar Kartikeya and Raghav Goyal has revealed that he keeps talking to the boys about plans and methods and how they can improve as the year goes on.

Like most of the seasons, the Mumbai Indians squad this year to has been one, which is brimming with young talent. Among the youngsters looking to make a mark for the team this year are Kumar Kartikeya and Raghav Goyal.

Both Kartikeya and Goyal are left-arm wrist spinners, rare specialists in world cricket. They are being trained by two-time World Cup winner Hogg, one of the best left-arm wrist spinners of all time.

Kartikeya had an impressive debut season for MI last year, while Goyal is a part of the Mumbai Indians for the first time.

“Yeah, I’m just over here helping a couple of spinners. There are a couple of wrist spinners in here. I keep talking to the boys about plans and methods in the middle and how we can try and improve as the year goes on,” Hogg was quoted as saying in a media release, issued by the franchise.

Kartikeya is one of the most consistent bowlers on the domestic circuit. Capable of bowling left-arm orthodox spin too, he was a key part of the Madhya Pradesh team which won the Ranji Trophy title last year.

“One thing that really impresses me is his work ethic. It’s just fantastic. He just wants to evolve and keep learning,” said Hogg while praising Kartikeya.

Unlike Kartikeya, Goyal is yet to play a match of professional senior level cricket, having not made his debut in any of the three formats.

The former Australian cricketer says he is working on getting him ready for a big tournament like the IPL.

“Raghav is a very interesting one. He has never been exposed to this type of cricket before. He’s learning about what it takes to be a first class cricketer,” he said.

At the same time, the young spinners are equally excited to be working with Hogg.

“He is one of the best left arm wrist spinners I have seen in my life,” Kartikeya said.

Hogg’s coaching philosophy involves putting the youngsters at ease and encouraging them to open up, something Kartikeya acknowledges. “He is fun loving. So I love to be coached by him.”

The 22-year old Goyal says he has been a long-term fan of Hogg.

“He is one of my favourite bowlers. I have admired him since childhood,” he said.

In the short time that he has been with the spin twins, Hogg has already had an impact.

“He is a very positive person. He tells me about how he fought every situation. He tells me about how to stay positive everytime, how to buck up and how to push yourself. So I have learnt a lot from him,” Goyal said.

Pakistan suspects deliberate hurdles in its SCO participation by India

0

In the wake of contemplations over Pakistan attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in India, suspicions are prevailing that New Delhi may create hurdles for Islamabad to send its delegates.

The concerns are part of initial assessments by the Pakistan Foreign Office, whose official sources maintained that while it was considering the invitation extended by India as its capacity as the SCO President for the upcoming meetings of Defence and Foreign Ministers; they were also concerned over the Narendra Modi-led government’s unwillingness to have delegates from Islamabad in attendance.

The all-important SCO Defence Ministers’ meeting is scheduled to be held in Delhi later this month, while the Foreign Ministers’ meeting will take place in Goa in May.

“We have not yet arrived at a final decision. However, there is a feeling that even if Pakistan intends to send its ministers, the Modi government may create a situation where it will become difficult for us to attend the SCO meetings,” said a source with knowledge of the development.

One of the reasons behind Islamabad’s suspicion is also in relation to recent events in which, India virtually withdrew Pakistan’s invitation to an expert-level meeting and objected to the map the Pakistani delegation used during the preparatory meeting.

“The map showed the whole of Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory, something that India objected to,” the source said.

Moreover, India has just recently refused to send its cricket team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup and demanded Pakistan change the venue of the tournament to a neutral one.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has strongly protested over India’s refusal to play in Pakistan and has warned that India’s position may affect Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming World Cup being hosted by India.

The PCB has also taken up the matter with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“All of this reflected that the Indian government was not keen on even reviving sporting ties let alone engaging with Pakistan on regional forums,” the source maintained.

Harris, Garth, Graham and Litchfield added to Australia Women contract list

0

Grace Harris, Kim Garth, Heather Graham, and Phoebe Litchfield were on Wednesday added to Cricket Australia’s list of women’s players to be offered national contracts for 2023-24 including 13 players retained from last season.

The quartet became the beneficiaries of the additional national deals made available under cricket’s new Memorandum of Understanding.

The total number of women’s contracts available has risen from 15 to 18 under Cricket Australia’s new Memorandum of Understanding with the players, with Carey declining one of the 18 spots.

Harris has been offered a contract after earning an upgrade during the 2022 Commonwealth Games and being a regular in the white-ball teams since then. The all-rounder played all six matches including the final for the dominant Australia outfit at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year.

Garth and Graham were also members of the triumphant Australia squad at the tournament.

Meanwhile, rising star Litchfield has secured a playing contract after making an immediate impact with unbeaten half-centuries in her first two ODIs earlier this year against Pakistan. The 19-year-old sensation was recently named in Australia’s squad for the upcoming Women’s Ashes Tour of the UK and looms as a possible long-term replacement for former vice-captain Haynes.

The contracts are primarily based on player performances during the past 12 months and who the National Selection Panel believes will represent Australian teams over the year ahead.

Players not awarded contracts as part of the initial squad of 17 can earn upgrades throughout the year by accruing 12 upgrade points. Female players receive five points for a Test and two points for an ODI or T20I.

“It’s been an incredibly successful 12 months for the Australian women’s team, but our attention now turns to the challenges ahead, particularly the upcoming Ashes Series in England,” Shawn Flegler, Cricket Australia’s head of performance (women’s cricket) and national selector, said.

“Grace Harris earned an upgrade last season and subsequently played every match throughout the T20 World Cup, she is a multi-skilled cricketer who can influence matches with both bat and ball. Kim Garth and Heather Graham have performed strongly at the domestic level over the past 12 months, and both thoroughly deserve their spot on the list.

Phoebe Litchfield is a young talent who we believe has a big future, she’s built her game upon a very sound technique and we’re confident she can transfer those skills into international cricket.

We’ve had a core group of players performing well over the last 12 months which means some talented players have missed out, it’s certainly made selection tough but we’re in a fortunate position to have such depth across Australian Cricket,” he added.
