Yediyurappa is now keen on handing over the baton to his son B.Y. Vijayendra, who is presently BJP Vice President in the state. However, the party is yet to take a call on fielding Vijayendra from the Shikaripura constituency, which is represented by Yeddyurappa presently.

A new Homekit architecture in iOS 16.4 is will be released by the technology firm Apple.

Whatever, this is not clear whether it is a fresh version of the update or an error fix, reports said.

The information was hinted at from a code that was discovered in public smart home standards.

The tech giant had temporarily removed the option to upgrade to the new HomeKit architecture on its devices, in December last year.

The iPhone maker made the statement after several users reported issues and problems with the Home app after the upgrade was installed on devices running iOS 16.2.

Issues reported by users included HomeKit devices stuck showing “updating” or “configuring” status, devices going missing entirely, invitations to share the Home with other users failing, HomeKit Secure video recording not working, and much more.

SA20: Markram’s century powers Sunrisers into Final against Capitals

0

A marvelous century by captain Aiden Markram helped Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Joburg Super Kings by 14 runs and set up a summit clash with the Pretoria Capitals in the inaugural SA20.

The Sunrisers skipper embraced the occasion and struck a scintillating 100 off just 58 balls in the second SA20 semifinal against the Joburg Super Kings at Centurion that powered the Eastern Cape side to 213/5.

Markram displayed fantastic temperament as the Sunrisers were reduced to 10/2 after losing both openers Temba Bavuma and Adam Rossington early on to Lizaad Williams (4/41).

But that was when the experienced Markram made the ultimate difference as he formed a match-turning 99-run partnership with Jordan Hermann. The SA20 has unveiled plenty of young South African talent and young Hermann certainly showed that he is one to look out for in the future with a composed 48 (36 balls) that helped resurrect the Sunrisers’ innings.

With Tristan Stubbs (20) and Jordan Cox (18) adding a couple of cameos along with Markram’s powerful strikes, it allowed the Sunrisers to post an imposing 213/5.

The Super Kings’ chase got off to the worst possible start when their in-form captain Faf du Plessis pulled Sisanda Magala’s first delivery of the innings straight to the deep square leg.

The Super Kings’ woes were compounded when Leus du Plooy followed shortly for another duck as the Sunrisers exerted their dominance.

But the Wanderers-based side was not ready to give up without a fight. Reeza Hendricks kept the Super Kings in the contest until the final over with a superb 96.

Ultimately, though, it was the Sunrisers’ night as the Super Kings fell short by 14 runs as finished on 199/5.

Brief scores:

Sunrisers Eastern Cape 213/5 in 20 overs (Aiden Markram 100, Jordan Hermann 48; Lizaad Williams 4-36) beat Joburg Super Kings 199/6 in 20 overs (Reeza Hendricks 96, Romario Shepherd 36 not out; Roelof van der Merwe 2-23) by 14 runs

WhatsApp lets users easily record videos hands-free on iOS beta

0

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a new camera mode that will allow users to easily record videos hands-free on iOS beta.

This feature is rolling out to some beta testers after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.3.0.74 update from the TestFlight app, reports WABetaInfo.

Users are now able to switch to video mode easily with just a tap and they don’t need to tap and hold to record videos hands-free.

Moreover, it is now possible to switch from front to back camera and vice versa when recording, which makes it easier to record videos.

The new camera mode is expected to roll out to more users over the coming days, the report said.

Last month, it was reported that the messaging platform was working on a new switch camera mode, which will allow users to switch between a camera and video mode, on iOS beta.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, WhatsApp was reportedly rolling out longer group subjects and descriptions on iOS beta, making it easier for users to better describe groups.

India’s small rocket SSLV-D2 lifts off with earth observation satellite

0

India’s new rocket Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV-D2) on Friday morning lifted off with an earth observation satellite-07 (EOS-07) weighing 156.3 kg.

Piggybacking on that are two other satellites — 10.2 kg Janus-1 belonging to ANTARIS of the US and 8.7 kg AzaadiSat-2 belonging to Space Kidz India, Chennai. The SSLV-D2 is carrying a total weight of 175.2 kg.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed SSLV with a carrying capacity of 500 kg to the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) based on the market trend of going in for smaller satellites.

At about 9.18 a.m. the 34-meter tall and 120-ton expendable rocket costing about Rs 56 crore broke free of the first launch pad and started its upward one-way journey.

The rocket with a thick orange flame at its tail slowly gathered speed and went up and up.

As to the mission’s objectives, ISRO said it is to demonstrate the designed payload capability of SSLV in LEO and injection of three satellites — EOS-07, Janus-1, and AzaadiSAT-2 — into the 450 km circular orbit.

About 13 minutes into its flight, the SSLV rocket will eject EOS-07 and soon after that the other two satellites Janus-1 and AzaadiSAT-2 would be ejected — all at an altitude of 450 km, said ISRO.

With the new rocket in its portfolio, ISRO will have three rockets — Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and its variants (cost about Rs 200 crore), the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-MkII cost about Rs 272 crore, and LVM3 Rs 434 crore) and SSLV (Development cost of three rockets about Rs 56 crore each) and production cost may go down later.

The SSLV’s maiden flight — SSLV-D1- on August 7, 2022, was a failure as the rocket had put the two satellites — EOS-01 and AZAADISAT — in a wrong orbit resulting in their loss.

According to ISRO, the onboard sensors of SSLV-D1 were affected due to vibrations during the separation of its second stage. While the rocket’s software was able to perform the ejection of the satellites, the ejections were done into the wrong orbit. The satellites also lacked the necessary velocity to be in a stable orbit and went into oblivion.

Major traffic curbs in Lucknow for GIS-23, schools closed

0

Lucknow will face major traffic snarls on Friday as the three-day Global Investors’ Summit (GIS)-2023 begins.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate the summit, roads to and from the airport will remain inaccessible for traffic movement.

Some 15 city schools will remain closed on Friday due to heavy traffic in view of the Summit.

The office of the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) has advised that due to traffic diversions in place in the city on account of the visit of the Prime Minister and dignitaries to Lucknow, the movement of students is likely to be affected.

“Schools like St Francis’ College and Cathedral Senior Secondary School in Hazratganj, La Martiniere Girls College, La Martiniere College, Loreto Convent Intermediate College, GD Goenka Public School, Christ Church College, four branches of City Montessori Schools, including Kanpur Road, Vishal Khand, Gomti Nagar extension and Golf city, will remain closed on Friday,” said DIOS Rakesh Kumar.

According to a release from the police department, traffic movement from Shaheed Path to Vrindavan Yojana will be completely restricted for Prime Minister Modi’s visit on Friday.

Therefore, people heading towards Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) or the Medanta Hospital should take alternative routes.

Raees Akhtar, Lucknow’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said that traffic movement on the Shaheed Path will be prohibited and some other traffic restrictions will also remain in place during the event.

The DCP added that residents heading towards SGPGI would have to reach their destination using the drop at Raebareli road.

He also said that people could use Raebareli road via Cantt and Telibagh to reach SGPGI when traffic movement on Shaheed Path will remain restricted due to the PM’s Major traffic curbs in Lucknow for GIS-23, schools closed movement.

The officer also said that the commuters heading to Medanta Hospital would have to reach their destination via Sushant Golf City.

Akhtar said two new cuts have been made on Shaheed Path in front of the SSB building and Lulu Mall, especially for the delegates visiting the event.

He said traffic cops will remain deployed all throughout the stretch of Shaheed Path.

They will keep enforcing short-period restrictions and diversions, if required, during the movement of VVIPs and other important delegates coming to the event.

He suggested that people should avoid using the Shaheed Path route and the adjoining roads unnecessarily between February 9 and 15 as there will be multiple diversions and restrictions due to the movement of VIPs and investors coming to attend the GIS-2023 and G20 meetings.

While the GIS event is scheduled between February 10-12, the G20 meetings would take place from February 13-15.

Oppn attacks Yogi govt ahead of GIS-23

0

Just before the Global Investors’ Summit (GIS)-2023 kicks off on Friday, opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh have mounted a blistering attack on the Yogi Adityanath-led state government.

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav said the state government should not discriminate between industrialists.

He described industrialist Gautam Adani as “Vitamin A of the BJP” and added that “excess and loss of Vitamin A has its disadvantages”.

“The BJP government is getting MoUs done with the companies that function out of one room. Anyone it spots with suit-and-tie, the BJP government is getting MoU signed with them,” the SP chief said.

“Industry and industrialists should progress, but there should not be any discrimination or preferential treatment by the government. It cannot be the case that one industrialist grows and the other does not. The government should have the same vision for everyone.”

Meanwhile, Congress termed the GIS-23 a “Global Event Summit” and alleged that it was being organized to waste public money.

AICC spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said the state government, on the one hand, was claiming to have attracted an investment of Rs 21 lakh crore ahead of the GIS, and on the other hand, it was also spending a huge amount of money in organizing it.

Singh said the state government has also engaged certain event management agencies for the summit and now it should clarify the amount of money it was paying to such agencies.

Responding to the attacks, Uttar Pradesh BJP spokesman Harish Srivastava said: “Akhilesh Yadav seems to have lost the plot completely. He is getting desperate and it shows in his utterances. The SP must realize that though it is the main opposition party in Uttar Pradesh, it does not mean negating all positives.

“There is so much that he could have done for the state during his tenure, but he has a problem if the BJP is doing development at the speed of a bullet train and people are backing the party.”

The spokesman also said that Congress was not even worth responding to.

Shahid Kapoor: Vijay Sethupathi is very childlike and innocent

Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, who is gearing up for the release of his show ‘Farzi’, worked with south sensation Vijay Sethupathi for the first time and he shared that he found him to be extremely innocent.

Talking about Vijay, Shahid said on IMDb Original ‘Burning Questions’: “He is very childlike and innocent in the way he comes across. There is a lot of integrity to him as an actor, and he is also unpredictable as an actor. He’s a pure artist; you can just sense it when you work with him. That’s the biggest compliment you can give anybody. It was a pleasure working with him.”

With Farzi streaming in a few days from now, Shahid said, “I am very happy with the show. It takes away a lot of nervousness when you feel satisfied with what you’ve done. I feel very happy with the way it’s turned out and am excited to share it with people. It’s my first time on a digital platform, and I’m excited to see how people respond to that.”

Shahid made his debut in the Hindi film industry 20 years ago.

When asked how he deals with adversity, he shared some words of wisdom. “Adversity is challenging, but when you are challenged, you become a better version of yourself, so it’s an opportunity.” About his biggest challenge to date, he said, “People Management. I think it’s more challenging than what I do.”

In the one film he wants everyone to see, Shahid spoke about a classic. “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro is a film I’d want everyone to see. It had a dad (Pankaj Kapur), Naseer’s uncle, Satish Kaushik ji, and some fantastic actors. I don’t know how many people have seen it. It even had Vidhu Vinod Chopra as an actor.”

“They were all a bunch of friends who came together and made it. Kundan Shah directed it. It’s one of the funniest films I have seen. It can make me laugh anytime. If you want to have a fun time, just watch it, it’s great!”

He also revealed that ‘Dunki’ is the movie he is looking forward to watching in 2023, as it brings together Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani.

Bengal BJP upset over Governor’s speech in budget session

West Bengal unit of BJP seems to be frustrated with Governor C.V. Ananda Bose’s speech at the opening of the budget session of the state Assembly.

State BJP leadership feels that the governor could have avoided reading out certain portions of the speech especially those stressing “Union government depriving the state,” “stable law & order situation,” and “excellence in the education sector” among others.

“Agreed that the Governor by convention needs to read out the written speech provided by the state government. However, at the same time, the Governor had the option to avoid reading out the controversial portions by completing the process by reading out the first line and the last line of the speech. However, the Governor chose to read out the entire speech despite the objections from our legislators on the controversial portions,” said a member of the state committee of the party.

According to the leader of the opposition in the state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, the state government has resorted to blatant falsehood through the Governor’s speech. “There is no reason to believe that the Union government has deprived the state government of its legitimate dues. Rather it is the state government that has misutilised the central funds,” he said.

The state committee member of the BJP also pointed out that the portions of the Governor’s speech that highlighted the level of excellence that the state’s education sector has reached during the current regime were unacceptable. “This is especially unacceptable in the backdrop of the massive corruption in teachers recruitment following which almost the entire education department including the former state education minister is behind the bars,” he said.

He also pointed out that Ananda Bose’s predecessor Jagdeep Dhankhar played the perfect role on such occasions by completing his speech by reading out just the first and last lines on such occasions.

A section of the state BJP leadership also feels that by reading out the entire speech the governor has indirectly given the state’s ruling party an arm to combat the opposition’s persistent movements on the issues of corruption in the state.

Cong furious over expunging of speech parts of Rahul, Kharge

The Congress was furious on Thursday after the presiding officers of both Houses expunged parts of the speech made by Mallikarjun Kharge in the Rajya Sabha and Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.

Kharge, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition, raised the matter before the Rajya Sabha Chairman. He said that he had not said anything unparliamentary and his speech should be restored.

He said that in the past former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had used similar words for former PM Narasimha Rao.

Pramod Tiwari of the Congress said that these words were part of the various Assembly proceedings.

Kharge on Wednesday while speaking on the motion of thanks to the President’s Address said, “Wealth of one of the closest friends of the Prime Minister increased by 12 times in the last two and half years. In 2014 it was a Rs 50,000 crore group while in 2019 it became Rs 1 lakh crore group, but what ‘jadu’ (magic) happened was that suddenly in two years assets worth Rs 12 lakh crore came…whether it is due to the favor of friendship.”

On February 7, Rahul Gandhi during the discussion on the motion of thanks in the Lok Sabha, attacked the PM, and said “Earlier he used to travel in Adani’s aircraft and now Adani travels with Modiji in his aircraft. First, the matter was limited to Gujarat then the country and now he has become international.”

On Thursday, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected the suspension notice under rule 267 moved by Aam Aadmi Party’s Sanjay Singh and BRS’s K. Keshav Rao after which the AAP staged a walkout.

Sanjay Singh said all the notices were rejected and alleged that the government was stalling the discussion on Adani row.

Singh had demanded suspension of business under rule 267 on Wednesday too, but the notice was rejected by the chair following the AAP staged walkout. The notice said that the public sector banks and LIC have lost money in the Adani Group case after the Hindenburg report surfaced.

Steven Soderbergh debunks rumour Thandiwe Newton got fired from ‘Magic Mike 3’

‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’ director Steven Soderbergh is gearing up for its theatrical release with Salma Hayek playing the female lead opposite Channing Tatum, but that wasn’t how the film originally went into production.

The movie started filming with Thandiwe Newton, but she exited the project after only 11 days and was replaced by Hayek, reports ‘Variety’.

A studio spokesperson told Variety at the time that Newton exited the film “to deal with family matters,” but outlets like Page Six ran with headlines that claimed it was an on-set fight between Tatum and Newton that got her fired from the movie.

Rumors circulated the two actors had an explosive fight over Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. Soderbergh now told Rolling Stone that none of the headlines he saw about Newton’s exit were factual, reports ‘Variety’.

“Nothing I ever saw was accurate, and there’s really no upside for anybody involved in litigating this or excavating it because I consider it private,” Soderbergh said.

“Everything I saw publicly was wrong. It was just…I don’t think anybody sees any benefit in running through this publicly. It becomes something you can’t control. Right now, to keep it private means all of us can control it, and I think that’s where it should sit for the time being.”

In ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’, Hayek stars as a woman in a relationship with Tatum’s eponymous stripper. Hayek’s character pushes Mike to start a male stripper revue in London. Soderbergh took inspiration from Tatum’s real-life ‘Magic Mike stage production in Las Vegas, ‘Magic Mike Live’.

“The film is showing up at a good time because it’s such a joyful movie,” Soderbergh recently told Variety.

“I’m also curious if there is a space still for a mid-range movie budget aimed at adults – one that’s not by standard definition a fantastic spectacle.”

LeBron James breaks NBA’s all-time scoring record

0

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James broke NBA’s all-time scoring record, held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for nearly 39 years, in the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

With the last 14 seasons for the Lakers, Abdul-Jabbar, six-time NBA MVP, scored 38,387 points in his 20-year career, reports Xinhua news agency.

James needed 36 points to break the NBA’s all-time scoring record. With 10.9 seconds left in the third quarter at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, James got the last two points he needed with a fadeaway jumper. NBA officials paused the game for minutes to honor James in a ceremony on the court.

Abdul-Jabbar was in attendance, witnessing James’ accomplishment with cheering crowds. The Lakers lost 133-130 to the Thunder despite James’ 38-point performance.

“Congratulations to LeBron on breaking one of the most hallowed records in all of the sports by becoming the NBA’s all-time scoring leader,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement.

“It’s a towering achievement that speaks to his sustained excellence over 20 seasons in the league. And quite amazingly, LeBron continues to play at an elite level and his basketball history is still being written,” he added.

Cong MP’s notice in LS, seeks details on PM’s ‘foreign travels with Adani’

0

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to the motion of thanks on President’s Address, Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Thursday gave an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha seeking “details of the PM’s foreign travels with Adani”.

The notice says, “Discussion on Prime Minister’s foreign travel with industrialist Gautam Adani and the benefit the group received in foreign tenders.”

The Prime Minister on Wednesday did not touch the subject but attacked the opposition for terming India weak on one side while stating that the country has become powerful and was pressurizing other nations.

Congress MP Manish Tewari also moved an adjournment notice on the China-Line of Actual Control (LAC) issue demanding discussion.

In the notice, he said, “Since April 2020, China has engaged in what can only be described as a steady land grab. Till 16 January 2023, seventeen rounds of Commander level talks have taken place between India and China with little success.

“All the while China continues to build significant infrastructure, including bridges, roads, and accommodation for its troops. China is attempting to change the status quo unilaterally.

“The clashes in the Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh were another indication of China’s steady aggression to change the status quo on the border. Moreover, such aggression is no longer limited in territorial scope as evidenced by the clashes that took place in Arunachal Pradesh, around 2000 km away from the place of clashes.
