Punjabi actress Himanshi Parashar talks about making her debut in the Hindi TV industry with ‘Teri Meri Dooriyaann’ and shares her fascination for daily soaps since childhood.

Himanshi says: “Since I was a kid, I’ve always adored TV actors. I used to watch so many TV shows along with my mother but not until 2018, I’d never imagined that one day I would be amongst these TV actors. It makes me so happy to be a part of ‘Teri Meri Dooriyaann’.”

She shares how much she enjoyed shooting with the entire cast including Vijayendra Kumaria, Surendra Pal, Avinash Wadhawan, Gouri Tonk, Vaishnavi Ganatra, Suchitra Trivedi, and Roopam Sharma, among others.

“I had no idea that life had so much more to offer to me. When I see the team, the cast, and the final product of what we are shooting, I feel so blessed and lucky that I’m a part of this. I have previously shot for different shows but shooting for this one is a completely different experience which makes it a special one.”

It is a story of two families and how the next generation from both of them falls in love with each other. It is about three couples and how their lives get entangled and the question raised in the mind of the audience is who is going to get along with whom as a partner.

India’s left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav ran through the Bangladesh batting order with four wickets in his first six overs while pacer Mohammed Siraj scalped three wickets to leave the hosts reeling at 133/8 at stumps on day two of the first Test at Chattogram on Thursday.

Kuldeep found a proper turn and bounce with the ball to spin a web around Bangladesh batters and pick 4/33 after Siraj burst through with his 3/14 as India still lead by 271 runs. Kuldeep had earlier frustrated the hosts with a 92-run stand with Ravichandran Ashwin for the eighth wicket to take India to 404 in the first innings, and.

On a pitch that was playing some tricks sans threatening bounce, Shreyas Iyer could add only four runs to his overnight total before being castled by Ebadot Hossain for 86. despite Bangladesh dropping another catch of him. Ashwin scored 58 while Kuldeep made a career-best 40 as India managed to go past 400.

Siraj rocked Bangladesh by dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto on the first ball of the innings, as keeper Rishabh Pant took a diving catch to his left. Umesh Yadav uprooted Yasir Ali’s leg stump when the batter’s feet didn’t move and inside-edged to his stumps.

Litton Das looked solid, picking up five boundaries off Umesh at a quick pace – the pick of which was a punch through extra cover off the full face of the bat. Just after the final session began, Siraj and Das exchanged a few words. On the very next ball, Siraj got one to jag in slightly and took the bottom edge of Das’s bat to hit the stumps.

Mushfiqur Rahim was solid in his trademark sweep and punch while debutant Zakir Hasan took three boundaries off Ashwin, with an uppish drive through extra cover being the standout. But in the next over, Zakir poked at an outside-off stump delivery and edged behind to keeper off Siraj.

Captain Shakib Al Hasan did not inspire much confidence in his 25-ball stay at the crease and was caught at first slip off Kuldeep’s second delivery of the match. Nurul Hasan showed signs of aggression with his pulls and lofts and even got a reprieve when Ashwin shelled a catch at mid-on.

Kuldeep struck when Nurul tried to flick off a leg break, but Shubman Gill moved swiftly to his right to take a sharp catch at the short leg. In his next over, Kuldeep had two more scalps – trapping Rahim plumb lbw and cramping Taijul Islam for a room with a googly, forcing him to chop onto stumps.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Ebadot Hossain hit two boundaries each in a 31-run partnership for the ninth wicket to be unbeaten on 16 and 13 respectively at the stumps. But the efforts of Kuldeep and Siraj meant a cloud of follow-on is still firmly on their head.

Earlier, India’s last four wickets added 126 runs despite Iyer falling early on day two. Ibadat peppered a barrage of short balls against Iyer, and the tactic almost worked if Das hadn’t made a meal of the catch. The pacer was rewarded for his perseverance when he beat Iyer on the outer edge and took out the off-stump.

Ashwin and Kuldeep were solid in running between the wickets while taking a boundary off pacer Khaled Ahmed through the leg side. Taijul was getting to talk the ball, and even trapped Ashwin lbw with an arm ball. Bangladesh went for a review, but to their dismay umpire’s call meant the on-field decision of not outstayed.

India had more help when a throw from the fielder hit one of the two helmets placed behind the stumps, giving the visitors five penalty runs. Ashwin, who earlier launched Mehidy for a six-over long-on, drove Taijul sweetly through extra cover.

Kuldeep, who survived a caught behind appeal on his first ball off Mehidy, reverse-swept the left-arm spinner over the backward point and then swept the off-spinner fiercely through the backward square leg.

Post lunch, Ashwin danced down the pitch to loft Taijul over mid-on for six and took a single on the very next ball to reach his 13th Test fifty. Kuldeep was timing his sweep and slog-sweep against Taijul as the partnership continued to frustrate Bangladesh.

It was finally broken when Ashwin danced down the pitch for a maximum against Mehidy, but missed the delivery and was stumped. In the next over, Kuldeep was trapped plumb lbw by Taijul.

A brace of sixes through powerful slog-sweeps from Umesh and an uppish drive from Siraj over extra cover took India past 400-mark. Mehidy ended India’s innings by having Siraj hole out too long on.

Taijul was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers, finishing with 4/133, while Mehidy took 4/112 even as their fielders shelled various catches during the innings, which could hurt them hard post a batting implosion at the end of the day.

Cyber attacks will only grow as hackers get sophisticated: Top Cisco executive

Cyber attacks are only going to increase in volume and as hackers use more sophisticated means to hit organizations, the need of the hour is to build cyber security for mass markets as it is no longer confirmed to niche markets only, Jeetu Patel, executive vice president, and general manager of security and collaboration at Cisco has said.

In an interaction with media on the sidelines of CISCO Live’ event organized here recently, he said that cyber attacks have gone bigger as the sophistication of threats has gone higher.

“Sophistication of attackers has gone higher than what it was 5 to 7 years back. As technology seems to be going complex, users are seen making mistakes due to which breaches are happening. In this case, we are playing our part by ensuring that we build technology which is simple,” Patel said.

“The disadvantage with attackers is that they have to be right once but you have to be right every single time,” he added.

Highlighting the current crisis where cyberattacks and phishing etc have increased significantly, Patel said, “Security needs to be democratized. The entire system needs an overhaul where formal training is required for a user as well. This is because cyber attacks are becoming sophisticated”.

“A person receives a packet delivered on Amazon, and that’s how phishing attack starts; we need to train administrators, as well as users. Also, software companies need to be trained so that they don’t make products that have higher friction rates. Instead, simpler products should be made as complexity decreases efficacy while simplification enhances the same,” the Cisco executive noted.

Brushing aside the challenges of a slowdown, he said, “We aren’t seeing a slowdown, but are busy doing our job by innovating in a better way than we did yesterday. This is the way one can always stay ahead of the market.”

“Most companies have to think that it is hard to ignore security spending and it is equally hard to ignore people to stay connected, these are core elements of how companies operate so connectivity and security shall stay in demand,” he added.

On current trends, he said, “Right now, we have no plans of trimming, we are actually doing just the opposite, we are investing in businesses and are growing headcount year on year, but these are things hard to predict what will happen, what we can say is that we need to be sure about success, we need to access customer experience and continue to innovate, bring best people on board and make sure they have the opportunities to keep doing innovation.”

Patel emphasized the fact that hybrid working seems to be the order of the day.

Speaking on a big transformation being seen from the pre-pandemic to post-pandemic era, he said, “Hybrid working has emerged as a new order of the day. During the pandemic, we flipped overnight and added 1800 features in the first two years. Our innovation went up during this time.”

Now, even as we go hybrid, we continue to innovate, he said, adding that the world will be better if network security, secure connectivity, zero trust, application security, and threat detection and response are delivered on time.

Amid reports that Indian authorities prevented Chinese smartphone maker Vivo from exporting 27,000 smartphones worth $15 million for more than a week, Chinese state-run publication Global Times has said that Indian officials should ensure compliance with laws and regulations, increase transparency, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese mobile phone maker.

Whether this Vivo incident can be well resolved will have a strong demonstration effect on a vast number of other foreign companies, said a commentary in the publication, adding that the issue has once again raised eyebrows among Chinese companies about the Indian market, given India’s growing restrictions and investigations targeting Chinese companies this year.

“Relevant departments in India need to further investigate and make clarifications in a timely manner to dispel anxiety among the business community,” said the publication.

“Vivo, on the other hand, should actively cooperate with relevant departments in India to clarify the actual situation. If the company has received unfair treatment, it should not hesitate to take effective measures to defend its legitimate interests,” it added.

According to the report, Chinese companies such as Vivo have long contributed to the Indian economy and operate legally.

“India’s economic growth needs foreign investment. If India uses more unfair practices to aggravate foreign companies’ concerns, it will not only hurt the interests of Chinese companies but the reputation of India’s business environment may be irreversibly damaged,” claimed the report.

According to technology analysts, it will be difficult for India to rid its dependence on China’s relatively cost-effective mobile phones. India has stepped up its crackdown on Chinese firms over the years.

The Indian government is looking into cases of alleged tax evasion by three Chinese mobile companies — OPPO, Vivo India, and Xiaomi.

The companies were served notices by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for duty evasion.

India has also banned more than 300 Chinese apps, including Tencent’s WeChat and ByteDance’s TikTok. The country is now bolstering its domestic smartphone and chip manufacturing sector.

Samsung’s Mobile Experience (MX) Business has formed a completely new team for designing and developing its own chipsets, media reports said.

The company has formed an application processor (AP) solution development team within the business.

According to TheElec, the team will be led by Executive Vice President Choi Won-joon, who was also named the head of MX Development during Samsung’s annual reorganisation earlier this month.

A similar position exists with Samsung System LSI, which designs logic chips such as Exynos, which MX uses in its Galaxy phones.

According to sources, the MX Business is forming its own identical team either to optimize these Exynos chips for its Galaxy line or, more likely, to entirely develop its own processors in the future, said the report.

In 2016, Choi joined Samsung’s mobile business from Qualcomm and is known as a wireless chipset expert.

The AP is the smartphone’s most crucial component, handling data communication, and calculation, according to the report.

Samsung’s MX Business relies on a variety of suppliers for these, including Qualcomm, Mediatek, and Samsung System LSI.

Typically, Samsung releases two versions of its flagship smartphones, one with an Exynos chipset and the other with a Qualcomm SoC.

In the past, Qualcomm chipset-powered models were said to have faster performance, better thermals, higher power efficiency, and longer battery life than Exynos-powered models.

Twitter will shut down its newsletter tool Revue on January 18, 2023. Twitter’s senior product manager and Revue founder Martijn de Kuijper made the announcement in a post on Wednesday.

Users will not be able to access their Revue account from January 18, 2023, and all data will be deleted.

“This has been a hard decision because we know Revue has a passionate user base, made up of people like you,” Kuijper wrote.

If you run a paid newsletter, on December 20 the company will set all paid subscriptions to cancel at the end of the subscribers’ billing cycle.

This will stop your subscribers from being paid for Revue content once it no longer supports sending newsletters.

In the meantime, the writers will be able to download their subscriber list, past newsletter issues, and analytics by following the instructions present in the post.

“We’re grateful to everyone who has used our service over the years, and hope we can continue to help you build a community with your readers on Twitter,” Kuijper wrote. Twitter acquired Revue in January last year.

“Where there is love there occurs a war. We were very good friends, we started out with a very strong connection, we were chilling, we were vibing, and then some misunderstandings happened. Also, both of our attitudes of arguing and not settling for less was the major cause of the fights.”

She continued: “So with Aradhana Sharma and Saumya Bhandari, I kind of liked them initially, I thought we are friends then they tried double-crossing me, also, both didn’t know that I was being the mischief maker I was just trying to create a rift between them and that’s it. I did not have any personal grudges against anyone. I was just doing my role as mischief maker.”

However, overall she enjoys being part of the dating reality show. “My journey in the show is nice and emotional. It is a lot of fun. I never expected that I would live like a normal contestant and I had to hide from them that I was the mischief-maker, but it is fun fooling everyone,” she concluded.

Google has introduced a “Search Status Dashboard” that will inform users of real-time service outages if there’s an issue with crawling, indexing, or serving search results.

Earlier, the company had worked with its Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) to externalize these disruptions on its Google Search Central Twitter account.

“Over the past couple of years, we’ve been working with our SREs on improved ways to make information about major incidents generally accessible and useful,” Google said in a blog post.

The goal was to make reporting issues quick, accurate, and easy. As a result, we have launched a new status dashboard and simplified the process of communicating during incidents,” it added.

This dashboard will report the widespread issues occurring in the last 7 days, with some details and the current status of the incident.

A widespread issue refers to a problem with a Search system that affects many sites or Search users at once.

To communicate incidents and updates, the company says “once we confirm with SREs that there is an ongoing, widespread issue in Search, we strive to post an incident on the dashboard within an hour, and to provide successive updates within 12 hours”.

UP priest seeks security after solemnising inter-faith marriages

A priest of the Agastya Muni Ashram in Bareilly, who has solemnized over 64 inter-faith marriages, has sought security after he reportedly received threatening calls.

The priest, Pandit K.K. Shankdhar, met the Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akhilesh Chaurasia and sought security. He said he has solemnised weddings of 64 Muslim women with Hindu men in the past six years — 20 in this year alone.

Shankdhar claimed that he was recently intercepted by some youths near a shrine and threatened but he managed to escape.

The priest claimed that he has been receiving calls from private numbers where the callers are threatening to behead him.

“I am apprehensive of an attack on me anytime and, hence, want security from police,” he said.

Shankdhar said he was being targeted since he performs “rituals for non-Hindu women marrying Hindu men and helps them convert their religion before marriage”.

The SSP said, “I have forwarded Shankdhar’s application to the circle officer of the local intelligence unit and asked them to provide a report on it. The decision to give security to him will be taken on the basis of the report.”

Covid global health emergency hopefully ends next year: WHO chief

The chief of the World Health Organization (WHO) has said that he hopes that Covid-19 will no longer be a global health emergency sometime next year.

Addressing a press briefing in Geneva, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the WHO Covid-19 Emergency Committee will discuss next month the criteria for declaring an end to the Covid-19 emergency, Xinhua news agency reported.

“We’re hopeful that at some point next year, we will be able to say that Covid-19 is no longer a global health emergency,” he said.

He added, however, that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the culprit behind the Covid-19 pandemic, will not go away.

“It’s here to stay, and all countries will need to learn to manage it alongside other respiratory illnesses including influenza and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), both of which are now circulating intensely in many countries,” he said.

The WHO chief said one of the most important lessons from the pandemic is that all countries need to strengthen their public health systems to prepare for, prevent, detect and respond rapidly to outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics.

Another key lesson is the need for much stronger cooperation in collaboration, rather than competition and confusion that marked the global response to Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Maria Van Kerkhove, technical lead of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Program, warned waves of infection and re-infection would continue around the world, as the number of weekly new deaths reported by countries still hovers between 8,000 to 10,000.

Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program, warned that the world still does not know how the SARS-CoV-2 virus will evolve in the future, and such uncertainties add to risks.

Before the WHO chief ends the Covid-19 emergency, a balance needs to be stricken between the virus — including its impact and unpredictability — and “whether or not we have dealt with the vulnerabilities and the resilience issues in our health systems,” Ryan said.

Ukraine adopts laws for membership talks with EU

The Ukrainian Parliament has adopted all laws needed for launching membership talks with the European Union, Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

The Ukrainian Parliament “has fulfilled its part of the work and adopted all the necessary systemic bills to implement the recommendations of the European Commission”, Stefanchuk was cited by the parliament press service as saying, Xinhua news agency reported.

In particular, Ukraine has recently passed legislation on the reforms of the Constitutional Court and the judicial sector, as well as laws on the media, on national minorities, and on combating money laundering, Stefanchuk said. On June 23, EU leaders accepted Ukraine as a candidate for membership in the bloc.

The European Commission put forward seven requirements to be fulfilled by Ukraine for starting the accession talks.

Reigning world champions France scored once in each half to overcome a spirited challenge of Morocco on Wednesday night at Al Bayt Stadium to set up a FIFA World Cup final showdown with Argentina on Sunday.
