Twitter shuts ‘Moments’ feature that allowed curated collection of tweets

0

Twitter has announced to shut down its ‘Moments’ feature which was originally launched in 2015 to allow a curated collection of tweets that users could create.

The company said that the existing Moments will stay on the platform but users will not be able to create new ones.

“Not all moments last. As of today, we’re removing the option to create Moments for most users as we focus on improving other experiences,” the company posted.

“You can still see past Moments and follow Live events on Twitter,” it added.

As part of Elon Musk’s dream to make Twitter a clutter-free experience, the company has also removed “tweeted from” labels for most users.

In 2018, Twitter India rolled out sponsored “Moments” — a new custom feature to enable brands to partner with premium publishers and develop brand integrations.

“Sponsored Moments” gave advertisers the ability to add a branded cover image to the “Moment” in question as well as insert their own brand’s tweets into the round-up.

For publishers, “Moments” was an end-to-end solution for publishing and monetizing all forms of content on the micro-blogging platform, including Tweets, photos, videos, and GIFs. It also allowed publishers to produce and tell stories about events easily.

Moments launched to take on Instagram and Snapchat’s “Stories” feature, appeared as a separate tab on a user’s profile, and helped them keep track of stories and breaking news by curating related content.

Bhumi: ‘The journey to where I am today has taken time, but I have no regrets’

Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar, who is awaiting the release of ‘Govinda Naam Mera’, has shared that her upcoming cinematic choices – the films and the characters – are a reflection of her belief system.

Elaborating further, the actress said: “My upcoming film choices and the characters I play in them are a reflection of my belief system and goal as an artiste to portray women well on screen. I enjoy choosing scripts that let me disrupt the content landscape. I will continue to do the same in the near future.”

She is one of the busiest actors in B-town with 5 releases lined up for next year. These titles include ‘Bheed’, ‘Afwaah’, ‘The Lady Killer’, ‘Bhakshak’ and Mudassar Aziz’s next movie.

Sharing her excitement, the actress said: “It feels amazing to be one of the most prolific actors in the Hindi film industry today and I’m proud that I have been able to reach here through my hard work and determination. Being a complete outsider to Bollywood, the journey to be where I’m today, has taken a bit of time for sure but honestly, I have no regrets.”

She further mentioned that her journey makes her the artiste that she is today and she couldn’t be happier that today’s top filmmakers trust her to deliver on their vision.

The actress seems to be enjoying the pressure of back-to-back releases as she said: “Ever since I made my debut with ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, I have relished the challenge of playing women characters that have ambitions, desires, and strength. I feel blessed and fortunate that I have seven films in the next year in which I play various shades of women.”

“Films like ‘Bheed’, ‘Afwaah’, ‘The Lady Killer’, ‘Bhakshak’ and Mudassar Aziz’s next movie, ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ and another announced untitled film, will reflect the fact that I have been able to accomplish this.”

These films will allow her to showcase fascinatingly strong women in cinema: “This conscious choice, to be an actor who showcases different sides of fiercely independent women, has also given me a chance to work with my favorite filmmakers and co-stars. I have had a lot of fun shooting for these films.”

Bhumi’s next release – ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ will land on OTT on December 16.

0

Video game developer Epic Games has added new for-kids accounts in ‘Fortnite’, ‘Rocket League’ and ‘Fall Guys games.

‘Cabined Accounts’ will provide a personalized experience that is safe and inclusive for younger players, the developer said in a blog post on Wednesday.

“We believe that creating a rich experience within the same overall game or product is the best way to empower younger players to meaningfully participate without compromising on safety or privacy,” it said.

While signing in, all players will be required to enter their date of birth.

If someone indicates they are under 13 or their country’s age of digital consent, then their account will be considered a “Cabined Account” and they will be asked to enter a parent or guardian’s email address to start the parental consent procedure.

The parent or guardian of the player will get an email informing them about their child’s Epic account.

Parents can examine information about Epic’s privacy policies, provide permission for extra features, set up parental controls, and verify their adult status via SuperAwesome’s Kids Web Services by following the links in the email.

Since Cabined Accounts are built on Epic Account Services, it will also apply to younger gamers and developers that use the Epic Games Launcher.

While waiting for parental approval, younger players or developers using the Launcher can browse and access their library but cannot purchase new games or use specific Unreal Engine features.

Three UP students make shoes to tackle eve teasers

0

They are not Cinderella’s shoes but shoes that are valuable for women. Three final-year students of Electronics and Computer Engineering at the Institute of Technology and Management (ITM) have designed shoes for women that have an electronic device connected to them.

This device sends an alert to the nearest police station and the relatives of the woman wearing them whenever it senses any threat of abduction.

Women can also give an electric shock to miscreant(s) through them if they feel threatened.

The shoe — designed by Aditya Singh, Shubham Lal, and Sandeep Kumar Yadav — was displayed during the Inception Day programme of Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA).

Speaking on the innovation, Aditya Singh said, “The electronic device fitted into the bottom of the shoe has a 3.7 voltage battery and a generator system with direct current. At the press of a button, a sharp pin comes out from the bottom of the shoe. This pin, when in contact with an offender, triggers an electric shock.”

He further explained, “The shoe also comes with a GPS which is connected to the mobile phone of the person wearing it through Bluetooth. In uneasy situations, our feet release sweat. This activates the automatic sensor panel to send an alert to the police and the woman’s relatives.”

The shoe has been designed under the guidance of Diptee Ojha, Head of Department of the Electronics and Computer Engineering department, and Vineet Rai, one of the teachers of the three young innovators.

Russian, UAE presidents discuss bilateral cooperation over phone

0

Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone conversation to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries.

The two leaders paid special attention to the promotion of trade and economic cooperation, including in the transport, logistics, and energy sectors, the Kremlin said in a statement on Wednesday.

They noted the effective joint work within the OPEC+ mechanism to ensure the stability of the world oil market, the statement added as quoted by Xinhua news agency reported.

The presidents also touched upon the attempts by some Western countries to impose anti-market restrictions on the price of Russian crude oil, which goes against the principles of world trade, it said.

Why UP bypolls are crucial for these leaders

The results of the by-elections to two Assembly and one Lok Sabha seat will not change the complexion of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly or the Lok Sabha but they will definitely decide the fate of some leaders.

The by-election to the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, which was declared vacant following the demise of Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, is extremely crucial for the party and the Yadav clan.

Dimple Yadav is contesting the Manipuri by-elections to claim Mulayam’s legacy.

The entire Yadav family joined hands to ensure that the seat remains in the family, estranged leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav also patched up, much to the relief of family members.

For Akhilesh, this election is extremely crucial because ever since he took over the reins of the party, he has been facing a series of defeats. From the 2017 Assembly polls to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, then the 2022 Assembly polls, and the following bypolls in Azamgarh and Rampur, the party has faced losses.

A victory in Mainpuri will not only strengthen his position as the party leader but will also boost the morale of the cadres.

These by-elections are even more crucial for senior SP leader Mohd. Azam Khan has not only been disqualified from the state assembly — which necessitated the bypoll — but has also lost his right to vote.

Azam Khan has fielded his protege Asim Raza as the SP candidate and has been making highly emotional speeches in the campaign. He knows that the victory in Rampur may ensure his survival in politics while a defeat will mark the end of his reign in Rampur.

Akhilesh Yadav, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Chief Jayant Chaudhury, and Bhim Army Chief Chandra Shekhar have campaigned in Rampur.

The by-election in Khatauli is crucial for RLD, which is contesting the seat in alliance with the SP. Its candidate Madan Bhaiyya is a well-known face in the region and RLD’s victory would serve as elixir for the party and reinforce its position in western Uttar Pradesh.

BJP’s victory in these by-elections, on the other hand, will further enhance Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s position as an invincible leader and give a befitting answer to his detractors within the BJP.

Meanwhile, three-tier security arrangements are in place for the counting of votes on Thursday for the bypoll in the high-profile Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, where the SP is locked in a battle of prestige against the BJP.

The Central Para Military Force (CPMF) will guard the isolation cordon while the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) will take care of security in the inner ring and the police are managing the outer cordon at the counting venue in Mainpuri.

Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur and Khatauli are the Assembly seats where results will also be declared on Thursday.

“Security at the venue is divided into three cordons — the isolation cordon, where entry will be totally restricted, and will be taken care of by the CPMF. PAC men will be stationed in the inner ring and the outer area will be manned by civil policemen,” said Superintendent of Police (Mainpuri), Kamlesh Dixit.

Babri Masjid demolition: AIMPLB to move SC against acquittal of 32 accused

0

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has said that it will move the Supreme Court to challenge the acquittal of the accused in Babri Masjid demolition case.

A Special CBI Court in 2020 acquitted the 32 accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

The accused included top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders of the time, including former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti, and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.

On December 6, 1992, thousands of Hindu karsevaks demolished the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. They believed that it was built atop the ruins of a demolished Hindu temple marking the birthplace of Lord Rama.

When the mosque was demolished, a case was already going on for the ownership of that plot of land.

The Supreme Court in 2019 awarded the plot of land to the Hindus. A Ram Mandir is now being constructed on that land.

Earlier this year, two Ayodhya residents Haji Mahboob and Syed Akhlaq moved a revision petition before the Allahabad High Court. A two-judge bench of the High Court rejected the revision petition on November 9, saying the appellants had no locus to challenge the judgment as they were not victims of the case.

AIMPLB executive member and spokesperson, Syed Qasil Rasool Ilyas, said the board has now decided to move the Supreme Court against the acquittal.

“We are certainly going to approach the Supreme Court as the apex court in the Ayodhya verdict itself has accepted that the demolition of Babri Masjid was a criminal act. The five-judge Supreme Court bench that delivered the historic Ayodhya verdict had termed the Babri Masjid destruction a serious violation of the rule of law and the accused are still out of the reach of the law,” Rasool added.

Rasool said the appellants Haji Mahboob and Syed Akhlaq were CBI witnesses and their houses were attacked and burnt on December 6, 1992, by a mob that was gathered by the accused. He said Mahboob and Akhlaq lived in the close vicinity of Babri Masjid.
