UP: Probe ordered as stray dog carries foetus in mouth

0

In a shocking incident, a dog was seen carrying a dead human foetus in its mouth at the Maharajganj district hospital here.

The chief medical superintendent (CMS) Dr. A.K. Dwivedi has lodged a police complaint against three sanitation employees and served notices on six hospital staff, including an on-duty nurse and doctor. An inquiry into the incident has also been initiated.

According to reports, the dog was spotted in the hospital’s gallery by people present there. Following the complaint, the hospital staff immediately caught the dog and recovered the foetus.

The hospital chief said deliveries of two stillborn babies had taken place on the day and the bodies of both babies were given to their respective families.

Allegedly, one of the families was reluctant to take the body and abandoned it near a dustbin which was picked up by the dog.

World Cup: Spain decimates Costa Rica 7-0

0

Spain virtually steamrolled a feeble Costa Rica 7-0 in the FIFA Group E match at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha on Wednesday.

Spanish fans could not have it better on a pleasant evening in Doha as Costa Rica failed to even take a shot at the goal, suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Europeans.

Teenage star Gavi, who also plays for Barcelona, became the youngest player since Brazil’s Pele to score a World Cup goal as he confidently steered home the ball in the 74th minute, taking his side ahead by four goals to nil.

The Costa Ricans were unable to put up any resistance against a rampaging attack by the men in red since Dani Olmo’s 11th-minute goal that put Spain ahead 1-0.

Costa Rica players were found fumbling with just 18 percent ball possession and 12 fouls out of 20 in the match.

Ferran Torres scored twice — in the 31st minute and 54th minute, the first with a penalty. The other scorers were Asensio (21′), Soler (90′), and Morata (90+2′).

Spain meets Germany while Costa Rica takes on Japan on Sunday at the Al Bay Stadium and Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, respectively.

Shahbaz replaces Jadeja in India’s squad for Bangladesh ODIs, Kuldeep Sen comes in for Yash Dayal

0

Left-arm spin all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed has replaced unfit Ravindra Jadeja for the upcoming three-match ODI series in Bangladesh, the BCCI announced on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old Jadeja is yet to recover from his knee injury and will continue to be under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. The star all-rounder had to leave India’s Asia Cup campaign after the group stages to undergo surgery because of a long-standing knee injury and had also later missed the T20 World Cup.

Notably, the chief selector Chetan Sharma, at the time of the squad announcement for both the ODI as well as Test squads for the tour of Bangladesh, had said that Jadeja’s inclusion will be subject to fitness. And, now he has been ruled out from ODIs.

It remains to be seen if an all-rounder will be available for the Test series that follows the limited-overs matches.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat Titans pacer Yash Dayal, who earned a maiden call-up to the squad after a good season in the Indian Premier League, has a lower back issue and has been ruled out of the three-match series, which begins on December 4 in Mirpur.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named fast bowler Kuldeep Sen as the replacement for Dayal.

“Kuldeep and Shahbaz were initially named in the squad for the 3-match ODI series in New Zealand starting 25th November in Auckland. However, they will now be a part of the squad traveling to Bangladesh. No replacements have been named for the ODI squad currently in New Zealand,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Shahbaz, who made his international debut during the home ODIs against South Africa in September, is currently part of India’s ODI squad for the three-match series in New Zealand. The 27-year-old has been in brilliant form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, picking up 11 wickets in six matches at an economy of 4.87 across 51.2 overs. He has also scored two half-centuries lower down the order with the bat.

Meanwhile, the selectors have also picked India A squad for two four-day matches against Bangladesh A, starting on Nov 29.

India’s squad for New Zealand ODIs: Shikhar Dhawan (C), Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (VC and WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Deepak Chahar, Umran Malik

India’s squad for Bangladesh ODIs: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shahbaz Ahmed, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen

India A squad for 1st four-day game: Abhimanyu Easwaran (C), Rohan Kunnummal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yash Dhull, Sarfaraz Khan, Tilak Varma, Upendra Yadav (wk), Saurabh Kumar, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Atit Sheth.

India A squad for 2nd four-day game: Abhimanyu Easwaran (C), Rohan Kunnummal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yash Dhull, Sarfaraz Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Upendra Yadav (wk), Saurabh Kumar, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Atit Sheth, Cheteshwar Pujara, Umesh Yadav, KS Bharat (wk).

PKL 9: Aslam Inamdar stars in Puneri Paltan’s big win against Jaipur Pink Panthers

0

The Puneri Paltan put up a clinical performance to register a 39-32 victory over the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the vivo Pro Kabaddi League Season 9 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday. Aslam Inamdar emerged as the best player for the Pune side with 9 points in the game.

Arjun Deshwal picked up a few touchpoints as the Jaipur Pink Panthers took the lead at 6-3 in the 6th minute.

However, Somber tackled Deshwal and Mohit Goyat pulled off a raid in quick succession to help their team stay in the game at 6-8 in the 9th minute. Aslam Inamdar effected a magnificent raid in the 12th minute as the Pune side leveled the scores at 9-9.

The Puneri Paltan kept raging on and inflicted an ALL-OUT in the 17th minute to take the lead at 16-14. Moments later, Akash Shinde carried out a brilliant raid, catching out Reza Mirbagheri and Abhishek KS. Shinde continued to shine as Puneri Paltan led 20-16 at the end of the first half.

Goyat effected a fantastic multi-point raid and reduced the Panthers to just two members on the mat in the opening minutes of the second half. The Puneri Paltan inflicted another ALL OUT soon after and attained a stronghold of the match at 27-18 in the 25th minute.

However, Deshwal kept the Panthers in the game through a magnificent raid catching out Abinesh Nadarajan and Fazel Atrachali. But, Goyat kept getting touchpoints and helped his team stay in the lead at 33-24 in the 33rd minute.

V Ajith Kumar picked up a couple of touchpoints for the Panthers, but Aslam Inamdar showcased top form on the other end as the Pune side stayed ahead at 36-29. The Paltan rode on the momentum and eventually closed out a comprehensive victory.

Japan stun Germany in dramatic World Cup comeback

0

Japan has provided the second major shock of the FIFA World Cup with a stunning comeback 2-1 win over Germany at the Khalifa International Stadium here on Wednesday.

The four-time world champions took a first-half lead through Ilkay Gundogan’s coolly dispatched penalty and looked likely to add to their advantage early in the second half.

However, after a couple of near misses from Serge Gnabry and goalscorer Gundogan, and a stunning series of saves from Shuichi Gonda, Japan made their move.

The Samurai Blue became increasingly adventurous as the match wore on and, having threatened Manuel Neuer’s goal on more than one occasion, pulled level with 15 minutes remaining through substitute Ritsu Doan’s opportunistic close-range finish.

A shock then turned into a sensation eight minutes later when Takuma Asano burst through on the right, amid some less-than-impressive German defending, to blast a ferocious and, ultimately, historic shot into the roof of Neuer’s net.

I-League: RoundGlass Punjab, Rajasthan United share spoils with 1-1 draw

0

RoundGlass Punjab FC and Rajasthan United FC played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in their I-League 2022-23 match at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium, here on Wednesday.

Daniel Lalhlimpuia’s fantastic strike in the 13th minute looked to be the winning goal for the hosts but super substitute Gyamar Nikum snatched a late equalizer in second-half stoppage time to ensure that the spoils were shared.

The first half began at a gradual pace as both teams looked to size the other up and no major inroads were created early on. In the 13th minute though, the game sparked into life thanks to Daniel’s piece of individual brilliance. Samuel Lalmuanpuia’s corner kick was headed away by Aidar Mambetaliev and the ball fell to Daniel, who slammed the ball into the net with a powerful volley from the edge of the penalty area and gave his side the lead.

Joseba Beitia almost struck back for the visitors two minutes later, but the former RoundGlass Punjab FC midfielder’s volley was narrowly wide off the target.

The hosts fashioned a couple of half chances, with Lalmuanpuia’s cross being headed towards his own goal by Hardik Bhatt, prompting Rafique Ali in the Rajasthan goal to make a sharp stop. At the end of a flowing move, Daniel found Brandon Vanlalremdika with a low cross but the final contact was weak and the shot lacked power.

The Desert Warriors, however, ended the half on a strong note. In the 37th minute, Melroy Assisi’s header had to be cleared from the goalmouth and five minutes later, Nuha Marong failed to hit the target from a free header after Martin Chavez’s cross.

In added time, Kiran Limbu was forced to make a diving save from Ragav Gupta’s shot from 20 yards, which meant that the teams went into the breather with the score at 1-0.

After the restart, Rajasthan looked to put some immediate pressure but could not create a clear opening. On the other end, Freddy Lallawmawma found space to shoot in the 50th minute and his shot was palmed away by Rafique. Three minutes later, Beitia went for another volley from distance but it lacked enough power to trouble the keeper.

The home side almost made it two through skipper Aleksandar Ignjatovic but his header from a Samuel corner was just wide in the 56th minute. The midfielder had another opportunity to score moments later after a defensive error by Rajasthan but the shot was eventually blocked at the last second.

The RoundGlass Punjab FC backline continued to hold the fort well, not allowing the opposition to breach the defensive line despite having more possession. In the 72nd minute, Marong was found by William Pauliankhum from the left flank but the resulting header sailed way off the mark.

Krishnananda Singh, on as a substitute, was inches away from doubling the home side’s lead in the 78th minute. Latching on to a through pass by Bidyananda Singh, the forward fired in a powerful effort that cannoned off the post and went back into play.

The match went on in end-to-end fashion, with Limbu making a sharp stop in the 88th minute to keep out a strong effort by Chavez. It appeared as if the hosts would continue their perfect start to the new season but in the first minute of added time, Rajasthan found the leveler. After Limbu charged out to claim a cross, the ball fell to Nikum who showed excellent composure to slam the ball into the net and make it 1-1.

RoundGlass Punjab remains unbeaten in the competition so far, with two wins and a draw, while Rajasthan United take their tally to four points.

Croatia downplay high expectations after goalless draw against Morocco

0

Held to a goalless draw by Morocco in their World Cup Group F game on Wednesday, Croatian captain Luka Modric downplayed the high expectations for his team, saying that they need to take it one step at a time.

“Morocco is a difficult opponent, they are tricky and difficult to play against,” said Player of the Match Modric. “We had great defense today and didn’t allow them to get close.”

As runners-up at the 2018 Russian World Cup, Croatia came to Qatar as one of the favorites, but Modric insisted that their first and foremost focus at the moment is the remaining two group games, reports Xinhua.

“Prior to the 2018 World Cup, our ambition was to pass the group. It is the same now,” he added. “But we would be a dangerous opponent if we pass the group.”

Head coach Zlatko Dalic also refused to make a comparison between the team now and the one four years ago, as it is now “a new national team with a lot of new players.”

“We are not totally satisfied with the result today. We had control and possession, but didn’t create enough decisive opportunities or go forward as we wanted to,” said Dalic.

“Morocco was an opponent that is compact and well-prepared for us. They waited for us to make mistakes and used our weak spots,” he added. “They were faster than us in some cases, so we were afraid of their counterattacks. We were missing a bit of courage.”

“But we are moving on, and we will fight until the last minute.”

Tax-filing websites sending users’ financial data to FB: Report

0

Major tax-filing websites such as H&R Block, TaxAct, and TaxSlayer in the US are reportedly sending sensitive financial information to Facebook.

The information received by Facebook could be used by the company to improve its advertising algorithms, no matter whether the person using the tax filing service has an account on Facebook or other platforms operated by Meta, reports The Verge.

Users of the well-known service TaxAct, for example, are required to provide personal information in order to calculate their returns, such as their income and investment information.

A pixel on TaxAct’s website sends some of that information to Facebook, including users’ filing status, adjusted gross income, and refund amount.

Tax preparation website H&R Block also uses Meta Pixel which is embedded on its site. It collects data on users’ use of health savings accounts and the grants and costs associated with dependents’ college tuition.

TaxSlayer is another widely used filing service that sends personal information to Facebook as part of the social media platform’s “advanced matching” system. It collects data on website visitors in an effort to connect them to Facebook accounts.

“We take the privacy of our customers’ data very seriously,” Nicole Coburn, a spokesperson for TaxAct, was quoted as saying in the report.

Why Prosus’ $578 mn fair value doesn’t put BYJU’S valuation at $6 bn

0

Global investment group Prosus has put the fair value of its 9.67 percent stake in BYJU’S at $578 million, which technically puts the current valuation of the edtech major at nearly $6 billion — last valued at $22 billion — but this is not the case as Prosus has changed its accounting treatment for BYJU’S.

In its September quarter results, Prosus classified BYJU’s as a non-controlling financial investment rather than an associate, as its shareholding dropped below 10 percent.

Prosus told Media in a statement on Wednesday that the investment group has changed the accounting treatment for BYJU’s and in the subsequent reporting periods, “the company will be accounted for as an investment”.

Prosus hasn’t sold any of its stake in BYJU’S, which reported a Rs 4,500 crore loss in FY21 due to accounting change (or Rs 12.5 crore loss daily), but “made Rs 27 crore in revenue per day in FY22”.

“The provision of BYJU’S audited financials did not align with the timing of the close of our financial reporting periods, so we did not have sufficient information to make fair assumptions for our Group’s financial statements. The fair value of the group’s BYJU’S investment was determined by a third-party firm,” a Prosus spokesperson informed.

According to industry experts, this is more of an accounting issue than a valuation markdown for BYJU’S.

“In September 2022, the group lost significant influence in BYJU’S as it no longer exerts significant influence over the financial and operating policies of the entity. The group recognized a gain on disposal of the associate of $22 million, including a reclassification of the accumulated foreign currency translation losses of $55 million,” Prosus said in its quarterly earnings report.

“The group accounts for its 9.67 percent effective interest in BYJU’S at fair value through other comprehensive income. The fair value of BYJU’S investment, subsequent to the loss of significant influence, is US$578 million,” it added.

BYJU’S has said it has embarked on a path to achieve group-level profitability by March 2023 with a three-pronged approach. It has consolidated all its K10 India subsidiaries into one unit to leverage its synergies.

Last month, the tech major took an unsecured loan of Rs 300 crore from its subsidiary Aakash Educational Services, which it acquired for more than $950 million, to bolster its “principal business activities”.

BYJU’S also raised $250 million from its existing investors in a fresh round of funding in October.

Proses said that macroeconomic conditions have changed in the several months preceding “our half-yearly financials, generally resulting in significant declines in company valuations across the technology sector”.

“Prosus Edtech retains its board representation and continues to support BYJU’S in their vision to expand access to quality education in India and beyond,” it added.

BJY enters MP, Rahul Gandhi to address mahasabha in Ujjain on Nov 29

After winding up its Maharashtra leg, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) on Wednesday entered Madhya Pradesh.

The foot march began around 6.30 a.m. after Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole handed over the yatra flag to Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath at a village in Burhanpur district around 5.30 a.m.

Of the total 120 people, who are marching along with Rahul Gandhi from Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu) and will be part of the entire 3,070 km yatra (from Kanyakumari to Srinagar), 11, including four women, hail from Madhya Pradesh. The list excludes two-time former chief minister Digvijaya Singh, who is the convener of the Yatra.

During a press conference at Burhanpur, Congress general secretary and in-charge of communication, publicity, and media department Jairam Ramesh said that the yatra will cover around 21-22 km every day in two parts.

“Padyatra will start every day between 6 a.m. to 6.30 a.m. and continue till 9.30 a.m. During this period, it will cover 14-15 km and the second part of the yatra will begin at 3:30 p.m. covering around 8-10 km till 7.30 p.m.,” Jairam Ramesh said.

He added that the schedule for yatra will remain the same for the next 11 days in the state, except days fixed for rest for yatris.

Giving further details about some other programs in the state, Jairam Ramesh said on November 26, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Mahow — the birthplace of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

Rahul Gandhi is expected to attend a public rally on November 28 in Indore and address a Mahasabha in Ujjain on November 29.

“A press conference will also be organized on November 28 in Indore, the seventh time when Rahul Gandhi will answer the media persons’ queries since the Yatra started on September 7,” Jairam Ramesh added.

Jairam Ramesh also informed us that November 30 has been fixed as the rest day.

“Here, I would like to make it clear that Rahul Gandhi will rest in Madhya Pradesh, during which he will also meet with people, but will not go to Delhi. Bharat Jodo Yatra will enter Rajasthan on December 4,” Jairam Ramesh added.

Digvijaya Singh, meanwhile, took a dig at the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government, saying, “Today, when yatra began in Burhanpur, the entire area was filled with dust from the damaged road. The BJP always targets me on roads issue, but this is the real condition of roads in Madhya Pradesh.”

Google alerts users about 5 key holiday season scams

0

Google has alerted Gmail users about five key scams and spams during the holiday season.

The company advised users to avoid gift card and giveaway frauds, charity-related scams, demographic targeting scams, subscription renewal frauds, and crypto scams.

The tech giant protects users from around 15 billion unwanted messages a day and blocks more than 99.9 percent of spam, phishing, and malware, the company said in a blog post.

Gift cards and giveaway frauds are common during the peak holiday season. Scammers may try to fool victims into buying a gift card for them, by pretending to be a recognized contact or offering a free present in exchange for their credit card number.

Moreover, if a giveaway seems too good to be true, it can be a scam.

Charity-related scams and phishing attempts are harmful to both the victims of the frauds and the charities that would have benefited from the donations.

Keep a look out for identity-based malicious emails, which may impersonate local parent-teacher association’s (PTA) board members or target certain age groups with fake emails, the company said.

Scams involving membership renewal may create fake antivirus services in an effort to attract victims with the promise of increased security.

Even though some scammers are highly skilled at making their messages appear believable, users should always check the sender’s email. If something seems wrong, it might be fake.

Crypto-based frauds frequently come in the form of variations, one of which attempts to extort money from a victim by threatening them.

Plan was to bowl as much hard length deliveries as possible: Siraj on four-fer against New Zealand

0

India pacer Mohammed Siraj revealed that the mantra behind his incredible four-wicket haul in the third T20I against New Zealand was to bowl as many hard-length deliveries as possible to rattle the host’s batting order.

Bowling in the middle and death overs, Siraj made great use of hard lengths and hitting the pitch hard at a favorable McLean Park pitch to take out Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, and Mitchell Santner in a fiery career-best spell of 4/17 in four overs.

“Bowling hard lengths in Napier wasn’t easy. My plan was very simple — to bowl hard-length deliveries as much as possible. I am feeling very happy. As a fast bowler performing well gives you good confidence,” said Siraj in a chat with Arshdeep Singh in a video posted on BCCI.TV.

Siraj was generally known to leak runs in the shortest format of the game and had an unimpressive IPL 2022 for Royal Challengers Bangalore. But against New Zealand at Napier, he was at his impressive best.

He added that he had been preparing to bowl hard-length balls from the time he spent with the national side during Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. “I have been preparing well for a long time. Even during the (T20) World Cup, I was a standby player (in Australia) and I was planning and preparing to bowl hard-length deliveries.”

With the experience of playing T20 games, Siraj, 28, stated that his plan is simply to not give away too many runs. “My mindset in T20 is, whether I get a wicket or not, my aim is to not leak runs and don’t bowl too many boundary balls. That’s my plan. I don’t try to do much.”

He signed off by saying it’s a joyful moment for him whenever gets to play for India. “It’s a different joy when I represent and perform for India. I naturally bowl like this, and experience also plays a role. When you are representing India and performing well, it is a different feeling altogether.”

When I can’t pick a player, he knows it’s not personal: Hardik on not playing Samson, Umran in New Zealand T20Is

0

When India announced their playing eleven for the third T20I against New Zealand in a rain-hit tied match at McLean Park in Napier on Tuesday, many were angry over middle-order batter Sanju Samson and tearaway pacer Umran Malik not getting a chance to play in any of the two games in the bilateral series.

Asked about not giving players like Samson and Umran, apart from Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav game-time in the series which India won 1-0 and had begun with a washout, captain Hardik Pandya admitted that it’s hard to not include them in the playing eleven and added that when a player is not picked in the matches, they are aware that it’s not personal.

“It’s not difficult, but about how you handle it. It’s simple for me — I have the same sort of equation with all the players. When I can’t pick a player, he knows it’s not personal. It’s got to do with the situation. I am a people person and have always kept people around me.

“So if anyone needs me, I will be there for them. Everyone knows that if they feel anything at all, my doors are always open for them to come and have a chat with me because I understand how they are feeling,” said Pandya in the post-match press conference.

With India not having their regular top three of captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, many would have felt that Samson may be given a run in T20Is against New Zealand. But it didn’t happen. Pandya stated that he could emphasize how the people on the bench must be feeling.

“If they are sitting out — Sanju Samson, for example, we wanted to play him, but for whatever reason, we couldn’t make them play. But I can get into their shoes and understand how they are feeling. As a cricketer, it is difficult, whatever one might say. You are in the Indian team, but you are not getting a chance continuously in the XI, so that’s difficult.

“At the end of the day, I can say whatever I want, but those will just be words. It will still be difficult for them to deal with. But if I can repeat that continuously and create a healthy environment, where the players can come and have the right to speak to me if they are feeling bad, or go and speak to the coach. If I remain the captain, I think it won’t be a problem, because my nature and behavior are such that I make sure everyone is together.”

Pandya went on to explain that with a three-match series, it was impossible to give everyone playing time and all he could do was to do things that the team needed, like loading India with extra bowling options.

“What people are saying from outside, doesn’t matter much at this level. This is my team, firstly. The coach (VVS Laxman, in this tour) and I will pick the team we feel is right. There’s a lot of time, everyone will get a chance, and when they do get a chance, they will get an extended run. But it’s difficult since this was a short series. If it had been a long series, more players would have got a chance.

“It was a short series, and I don’t believe in chop and change, and I won’t in the future either. So it was simple, and I had to do with what the team needed. Like, I wanted a sixth bowling option. We got that here on this tour.

“Deepak (Hooda) bowled, and if batters chip in (with the ball) as he did. Eventually, in T20 cricket, there will be many opportunities. In a game, even if things are not going your way, you can mix and dictate things up by bringing in new bowlers, and surprise the batters.”

1 in 2 Indians want loss limit of Rs 50-500 per game for fantasy gaming

0

As the debate on online gaming heats up in India, more than one in two Indians (54 percent) want a loss limit of Rs 50-500 per game for online and fantasy gaming, a report said on Tuesday.

While platform operators term fantasy games as games of skill, most citizens believe they are a game of chance with financial risks involved.

While the Supreme Court has upheld its position and the position of the Punjab High Court in 2017, ruling that fantasy sports are a game of skill, the public view continues to differ, according to the online community platform LocalCircles.

LocalCircles conducted a nationwide survey which received over 33,000 responses from people from 322 districts.

For 65 percent out of 9,507 respondents, online fantasy sports are akin to gambling/wagering or a game of chance with risks in contrast to the position of the Supreme Court.

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on October 1 approved the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Ordinance, 2022, banning online gambling and regulating online gaming in the state.

This was the second attempt by Tamil Nadu to regulate this industry after the first law, passed in 2020, was struck down by the Madras High Court in August 2021 deeming it unconstitutional to ban “games of skill”.

Last week, the All India Gaming Federation moved Madras High Court challenging this ordinance. The petitioner before the court has contended that games like poker and rummy should not come under the ambit of “betting and gambling” as they are games that require skills.

According to the report, some citizens have equated these games to state lotteries of the late eighties and early nineties where people lost money regularly but a select few called them a game of skill, using probability theory.

Nearly 91 percent of respondents also want a ban on unsolicited spam promoting online and fantasy games.

“People are concerned about unsolicited messages being sent from online gaming and fantasy sports platforms and 92 percent want such unsolicited communication to be prohibited. The telecom regulator, TRAI, must act to enforce the same,” said the report.

India’s young driver Kush Maini will race for Campos Racing in the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship season and will be at the helm of their Dallara F2 2018 cars for the 14 races to be held between March and November.

Maini is an upcoming Indian talent who has made excellent progress in recent seasons in the single-seater feeder series. He will become the second driver from his family after his brother Arjun Maini to participate in F2 Championship. India’s Jehan Daruvala represented Prema Racing in F2 Championships in the last two seasons.

“Campos Racing are delighted to announce that Kush Maini will join their driver line-up for the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship season at the wheel of one of their Dallara F2 2018 cars. Kush will join previously announced Ralph Boschung securing a lineup with a great mix of experience, new blood, and driving skills,” the Campos Racing team announced on Tuesday.

Born in Bangalore in September 2000, Maini made his single-seater racing debut in 2016 by competing in the Italian F4 Championship. Maini rapidly showed his talent as he managed to step onto the podium on his season debut. The Indian driver then finished second in the 2020 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship with three wins and 12 podium finishes to his name. He entered the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship season with promising results as he also visited the podium, the release informed.

“Super happy to be joining the Campos Racing team! I’ve spent some time with the team at their workshop and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the professionalism, looking forward to the 3-day test in Abu Dhabi to officially start our relationship together! I would like to thank Mumbai Falcons, Omega Seiki Mobility, and JK Racing for all their support,” Kush Maini said on his joining the F2 Championship.

Kush becomes the second Maini to take part in the FIA Formula 2 with Campos Racing as his elder brother Arjun joined the Spain-based racing team for selected rounds back in 2019.

Both Boschung and Maini will carry out post-season collective testing for FIA Formula 2 in Abu Dhabi on November 23-25 in preparation for the 2023 season.

“On behalf of Campos Racing, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Kush (Maini). He is a very committed, professional racing driver with a great work capacity, so we expect he will be able to complete a strong rookie season next year. He carried out some strong performances in FIA Formula 3 this season and hopefully he will make further improvements in the ultra-competitive FIA F2 Championship,” Adrin Campos Team Principal, Campos Racing, was quoted as saying in the release on Tuesday.
