‘Bhediya’ special trailer gives more clues about the story

Ahead of the release of the Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon-starrer movie ‘Bhediya’, the makers of the film released a special pre-release trailer of the film on Saturday.

The special 1-minute and 30 seconds long video unravels more threads of the film. It also takes subtle reference from the fable of ‘Little Red Riding Hood.

Like its predecessor, the special trailer also boasts of good imagery, VFX, and colors with Varun Dhawan looking dashing in the titular character. It also shows an insurgent group roaming around wildly on the streets.

The film, based on ancient Arunachali folklore, tells the story of Bhaskar, an ordinary man who begins to transform into a wolf after being bit by a mythical animal.

Presented by Jio Studios and Dinesh Vijan, ‘Bhediya’ is a Maddock Films production, directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan.

The film, which also stars Deepak Dobriyal and Abhishek Banerjee, is releasing in cinemas pan-India in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil in 2D and 3D on November 25, 2022.

Our target is to finish on the podium in Hockey World Cup: Sumit

0

The Indian men’s hockey team midfielder Sumit is working hard to earn a place in the squad for the FIH World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar and Rourkela and said that he is giving his 100 percent on the field.

“If I play well, no one will be able to stop me from getting into the Indian team for the FIH World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar and Rourkela,” Sumit said on Saturday.

“I always think about giving my 100 percent when I go to the ground. I always compete with myself and believe that I have to be better than what I was yesterday. My duty is to do the hard work and selection completely depends on the Coach and selectors,” said Sumit.

He added, “The plus point with my game is I can play in almost every position. I play as a midfielder, but sometimes I drop deep to play as a defender as well. I have no problem with playing in any position in the team.”

Sumit also gave an insight into the preparations of the Indian team for the World Cup.

“Our practice has been going on really well and we have just played four matches in the Hockey Pro League 2022-23. We played good hockey in all four matches, so, our preparation has been on the right track,” commented Sumit.

He stated, “I remember the 2018 World Cup in Bhubaneswar when we lost in the quarter-finals and every time I go back to Bhubaneswar, it reminds me of that loss. The target of our team is to finish on the podium at the 2023 World Cup.”

Coming from a small village in Haryana, Sumit faced a lot of hardships in his childhood. However, it didn’t affect his resilience and dream to play for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team.

Sumit said, “From childhood, I aimed to play for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team. However, my family background wasn’t that good and then my coach supported me in my village. My father used to be sick when I was a kid and my brother worked to support the family.”

“There were days when I substituted my brother in the Dhabha, I worked there to support my family and also practice hockey. The owners were kind enough to support me with petty cash whenever I had to travel to play matches,” he recalled.

Sumit further added, “Winning a medal at the Tokyo Olympics was a very proud moment for me and the people back home. When I came back after clinching the bronze medal, the whole village was behind me and at that moment I was missing my mother (she passed away in 2020). She was with me when I came back home after winning the Men’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in 2016 and I missed her when the whole village was celebrating my success in the Tokyo Olympics.”

Speaking about the upcoming weeks that lead up to the World Cup, Sumit said that the Australia tour will be a great learning experience for Indian Men’s team. “The Australia tour is really important before the World Cup. Australia is a really strong team, we will get good competition from them and it will be a confidence booster for us to play against such a strong team before the big tournament.”

“We will learn a lot from playing against Australia and our team will try to execute the plans we have made for the World Cup during the series. The upcoming tour will really help us to prepare for the mega event,” he concluded.

Playing T10 has definitely helped improve my game against Spin, says Team Abu Dhabi’s Alex Hales

0

Among the most destructive batters in world cricket currently, England’s Alex Hales’ life in the fast lane has been a storied one.

But, whenever, Hales has picked up his bat and walked out, he has provided ample evidence of his explosive abilities, which he hopes to replicate in the Abu Dhabi T10 with Team Abu Dhabi.

A T20 World Cup winner with England earlier in the year, Hales noted that the T10 format adds more to his game.

“I loved the two seasons I’ve played before and I feel like I always leave the tournament a better player, especially when it comes to playing T20 again. In the games that you play in T10, you have to tee it up from ball one, I feel like that always helps you in the T20 format too. The Abu Dhabi T10 is such a good tournament and it attracts quality cricketers. And I am looking forward to playing at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, I have some good memories of this place,” Hales said.

While Hales’ talent and style of play are well documented, the England man explained that playing franchise cricket around the globe requires constant work on his skill set.

“On the subcontinent pitches you more often do not tend to have a bias towards spin and you have to make sure you adapt your methods. And I think that’s one of the key things as a franchise cricketer. As you’re playing tournaments in different countries and conditions all year round, so you have to keep topping up on certain areas of your game all the time, otherwise, you soon get found out.

“It (Abu Dhabi T10) certainly improved my game with spin over the last few years, and it’s still an area that I’m looking to get better at, so I’ll be sure to try and top up as much as I can over the next couple of weeks.”

Hales went on to add that taking on the spinners in conditions in Asia needs a little adaptation and noted that his training stints in India have helped him achieve his targets up until now.

“I’ve played a lot of cricket in UAE so I’m pretty familiar with what to expect, so hopefully I can hit the ground running. We have limited time for practice really with the packed schedule, but in the past, I’ve spent time in training camps in India, so I’ve got a rough idea of what my game plan is going to be. I’ve got my methods and hopefully, they can work well in this tournament.”

Hales, who said that he is waiting to reach Abu Dhabi and join his team, also noted that playing all three formats in the sport is extremely difficult.

“I think it’s exceptionally difficult to play all three formats at the top level. I think there’s only a handful of cricketers who are probably good enough to excel at all three. Since I gave up Red Bull Cricket in 2018, my T20 game has improved a lot and quickly as well. And the way things are going, I think it’ll see more and more specialists in each format,” he signed off.

Thevar initiative builds bridges between OPS, V.K. Sasikala

The deposed leader of the AIADMK and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, O. Panneerselvam (OPS) seems to be gradually aligning with V.K. Sasikala, former interim general secretary of the AIADMK and close aide of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

Both Panneerselvam and Sasikala belong to the powerful Thevar community which has major inroads and political decision-making powers in South Tamil Nadu. Thevars have been a mainstay for the AIADMK and the deposing of OPS by Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his associates from the party has not gone down well with the community. Media had reported earlier that Sasikala and Panneerselvam were in the process of reaching an alignment at the behest of the Thevar community.

In a recent interaction with the media at his Theni residence, OPS said that he would meet T.T.V. Dhinakaran of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) if he gets an opportunity. Dhinakaran the nephew of V.K. Sasikala has been calling the shots from behind for a long.

Meanwhile, Dhinakaran had also told mediapersons that there was nothing wrong in meeting OPS as he was a reformed man from his earlier stand of attacking Sasikala. He also said that he and his party would in no way align with the EPS faction in the AIADMK.

With the AIADMK openly stating that some allies of the ruling DMK would cross over to the AIADMK-led alliance, the announcements of OPS and Dhinakaran assume significance. OPS has also said that he would be appointing office-bearers of his group in all districts of the state and tour the entire Tamil Nadu.

Dr. Kamalakannan, Professor of Political Science at a reputed university of Tamil Nadu while speaking to the Media, said, “While EPS and his associates think that they have edged out OPS, the ground reality is something different which the Central BJP leadership knows for sure. In South Tamil Nadu, the Thevar community is a powerful force and OPS and Sasikala are the best faces of the community in the state. Thevar is a powerful community with deep social connectivity across South Tamil Nadu and the community has not taken the snubbing of OPS lightly and hence the alliance with Sasikala and OPS at its behest. This can be a game changer in Tamil Nadu politics and both the AIADMK factions are aiming for 2026 Assembly elections.”

It has to be seen how the electoral politics of Tamil Nadu will evolve in the days to come and how the new bonhomie will affect the elections for 2026.

CCTV footage surfaces of Satyendar Jain enjoying massage in Tihar

CCTV footage of Tihar Jail has surfaced in which Delhi minister and AAP leader Satyendar Jain could be seen getting a massage.

The footage of jail no 7 has also been accessed by IANS.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had told a Special PMLA court that Jain was having luxurious facilities at Tihar Jail.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxsena had also ordered an inquiry into the matter, post which Jail Superintendent of Tihar Jail, Ajit Kumar, a DANICS official was earlier placed under suspension.

“He has prima facie been found to have committed irregularities that warrant an inquiry,” read a recent order of LG.

As of now, no official has commented on the matter in connection with the video that has surfaced.

Jain was arrested on May 30 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Jain was in de-facto control of shell companies used for alleged money laundering, and the co-accused persons Ankush Jain and Vaibhav Jain were just dummies.

The ED initiated a money laundering investigation on the basis of the CBI’s FIR lodged against various suspects including Udai Shanker Awasthi, MD IFFCO, Pankaj Jain, Promoter of Jyoti Trading Corporation and Rare Earth Group, Dubai, Amarendra Dhari Singh, and others.

They were accused by the CBI of allegedly hatching a criminal conspiracy, cheating, and criminal misconduct.

The ED learned in the investigation that Awasthi and others in IFFCO generated proceeds of crime and layered it through various unrelated entities and part of PoC was then transferred to the entities controlled by them.

The allegations include the receipt of illegal commission by the accused from overseas suppliers through a complex web of fake commercial transactions through multiple entities registered outside India (controlled by the accused persons) to camouflage the fraudulent transactions as genuine.

“Awasthi (father of Amol Awasthi & Anupam Awasthi) and Parvinder Singh Gahlaut (father of Vivek Gahlaut) wield considerable influence in the Fertilizer industry by virtue of their position as Managing Director of IFFCO & Director of IPL (U. S. Awasthi) and Managing Director of IPL (Parvinder Singh Gahlaut). Such payment of commission to them through their sons bleed the coffers of IFFCO & IPL and is a fraud upon the shareholders of IFFCO & IPL which consists of many State Marketing Federations wherein stakes are held by various State Governments,” the ED said.

Earlier, Enforcement Directorate had arrested Jain’s business partners A D Singh and Alok Kumar Agarwal with whom he had business relations. A D Singh had also received Rs 27.79 crore from Dubai through illicit means. Both Jain and Singh have used the vehicle provided by Agarwal to receive the proceeds of crime in India.

The ED had also filed a Prosecution Complaint before a Special Court in 2021 against six accused.

Further investigation is under progress.

US AG names special counsel in probes related to Trump

0

US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the appointment of a special counsel to oversee investigations related to former President Donald Trump.

The announcement on Friday came days after Trump launched his official third bid for the White House, reports Xinhua news agency.

“Based on recent developments, including the former president’s announcement that he is a candidate for president in the next election, and the sitting president’s stated intention to be a candidate as well, I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint a special counsel,” Garland said in a statement.

President Joe Biden has said that he intends to seek re-election and that he would likely make an official decision “early next year”.

Garland said Jack Smith, a former career prosecutor, will be the special counsel “to oversee two ongoing criminal investigations”.

The first is an investigation into whether any person or entity unlawfully interfered with the transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election or the certification of the Electoral College vote held on or about January 6, 2021.

The second is an ongoing investigation involving classified documents and other presidential records at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, as well as the possible obstruction of that investigation.

“I will ensure that the special counsel receives the resources to conduct this work quickly and completely,” Garland said.

Smith has resigned as chief prosecutor for the special court in The Hague to take the new role.

Trump has lashed out at the series of investigations involving him, alleging that they are politically motivated.

FIFA World Cup: Barca left back Balde replaces injured Jose Luis Gaya in Spain squad

0

FC Barcelona’s 19-year-old left-back Alejandro Balde has replaced Jose Luis Gaya in the Spain squad for the World Cup, the Spanish Football Federation has confirmed.

Gaya missed the World Cup after suffering an ankle injury, with Balde stepping up from the Under-21 side after an impressive start to the season, which has seen him play at both lefts and right back for Barca — although he has just 23 first-team appearances in his career and only made his Under-21 debut in September, reports Xinhua.

Spain coach Luis Enrique admitted it has been “the worst day for having to tell Gaya that he had to leave the squad, due to an injury that is not that serious, but with the games so close, it would have been a risk (to keep him).”

Simeone, Pereyra put on World Cup standby for Argentina Napoli forward Gio Simeone and Udinese attacking midfielder Roberto Pereyra have been added to Argentina’s list of reserves for the FIFA World Cup, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) said on Friday.

The announcement came a day after Valencia midfielder Nico Gonzalez and Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa were cut from the Albiceleste’s 26-man squad due to muscle injuries. Atletico Madrid’s Angel Correa and Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada were named as direct replacements for the injured pair and joined Argentina’s squad on Friday.

News that Pereyra and Simeone were placed on standby is in line with manager Lionel Scaloni’s aim to have at least one backup player in each position at his disposal. Two-time champions Argentina will kick off their World Cup campaign against Saudi Arabia on November 22 before also facing Mexico and Poland in Group C.

Marquinhos eases World Cup injury fears Brazil defender Marquinhos is poised to be fully fit for his team’s opening FIFA World Cup match against Serbia after overcoming a leg muscle injury.

The 28-year-old was forced to sit out training earlier in the week but looked untroubled as he joined his teammates for a full practice session at Brazil’s pre-World Cup base in Turin on Friday.

The Paris Saint-Germain player had described the injury as a “nuisance”, affirming that he was gradually returning to peak physical condition after a week of rest.

Brazil will begin the tournament in Qatar against Serbia on November 24 before also facing Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G. The South American team will be aiming to win international football’s most coveted prize for the sixth time.

Apple, Google app review teams scrutinise Musk’s Twitter

0

Yoel Roth, who has quit Twitter as Head of Trust and Safety, has said as Elon Musk perpetuates a lack of legitimacy through his impulsive changes and tweet-length pronouncements about platform rules, Twitter is now facing close scrutiny by both Apple and Google app stores.

In a New York Times article amid the #RIPTwitter trending on social media, Roth said that “Twitter will have to balance its new owner’s goals against the practical realities of life on Apple and Google’s internet, no easy task for the employees who have chosen to remain”.

“And as I departed the company, the calls from the app review teams had already begun,” Roth wrote late on Friday.

The instances of racial slurs on Twitter have increased since Musk bought the influential platform, despite assurances from the platform that it has reduced hate activity.

Roth said that in appointing himself “Chief Twit”, Musk has made clear that at the end of the day, he’ll be the one calling the shots.

“It was for this reason that I ultimately chose to leave the company: A Twitter whose policies are defined by unilateral edict has little need for a trust and safety function dedicated to its principled development,” he emphasized.

Thousands of employees resigned this week after Musk forced them to sign a form to perform “extremely hardcore” work duties.

Roth said that “the moderating influences of advertisers, regulators, and — most critically of all — app stores may be welcome for those of us hoping to avoid an escalation in the volume of dangerous speech online”.

So where will Twitter go from here?

“Some of the company’s decisions in the weeks and months to come, like the near-certainty of allowing Donald Trump’s account back on the service, will have an immediate, perceptible impact,” wrote Roth who worked at Twitter for seven years and under whom, his Twitter team was once touted as “custodians of the internet.”

Odisha govt makes Odia movie ‘DAMaN’ tax-free

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced that the Odia film ‘DAMaN’, which is based on the malaria eradication program of the state government, would be exempted from tax.

The Odia movie with Babushaan and Dipanwit Dashmohapatra in lead roles depicts the dedication of a young government doctor in the Malkangiri district in fighting the malaria menace.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that this will encourage the employees of the health department and other government employees posted in the remote areas to excel in selfless service.

If the various departments of the state government work collaboratively like during the Covid-19 pandemic period, a healthy and sensible society can be built, he said.

After receiving a good response from viewers, the filmmakers are planning to release the movie in Hindi soon.

Apart from Odisha, the movie was also released in six cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Raipur, and Ahmedabad.

According to sources, the state government has imposed 12 percent GST on a movie ticket up to Rs 100 and 19 percent on a ticket above Rs 100.

ISL 2022-23: Chennaiyin FC ready for Jamshedpur challenge

0

Chennaiyin FC will be keen to get back to winning ways when they host Jamshedpur FC in their sixth 2022-23 Hero Indian Super League fixture at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.

Playing their fourth home game of the season, Chennaiyin will look to pick themselves up from last week’s defeat to Mumbai City and look to get their first home win of the season.

Addressing the media ahead of the Jamshedpur game, head coach Thomas Brdaric advised his players to learn from their mistakes and bounce back stronger.

“Last match (against Mumbai City) was pretty tough to analyze because the first 30 minutes went as we wanted to implement most of the time. But after that, we conceded a quick first goal and lacked organization in the back. We’ve analyzed it and we know where the issues are,” Brdaric said.

“It was just one game; it’s not the end of the year (season). Every team has this kind of situation and we should learn from it.”

Defender Ajith Kumar, who was also present at the press conference, echoed the coach’s view.

“Yes, there were some mistakes (against Mumbai City). We missed the ball on some occasions where we could’ve had the possession. We have discussed how we can tackle the opponent and ensure that we’re not giving any advantage to them. We have to back up the team strongly and make strategic moves,” said Kumar, who has contributed with eight interceptions and six successful tackles from five games this season.

Chennaiyin’s opponents, Jamshedpur FC, who find themselves placed ninth on the points table, too come into this fixture on the back of a loss, and coach Brdaric said his team has worked on different kinds of strategies against Aidy Boothroyd’s men and hopes they can execute it well.

“Jamshedpur is a different team now and is struggling a bit. They prefer to play long balls to the wings or to the offensive players and we have to work well in pressing. We have tried different kinds of options in this week’s training and I hope most of them succeed,” the 47-year-old German coach concluded.

Chennaiyin has won four games from their previous 10 meetings with Jamshedpur in the league. The two-time champions had defeated Jamshedpur 4-1 when they last played against each other at the Marina Arena in 2020.

‘Rocket Boys’ at Skyroot have roots in ISRO

0

The top men of rocket startup Skyroot Aerospace have their roots in the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

On Friday, Skyroot Aerospace etched its name in the annals of Indian space history by becoming the first domestic private company to develop and fly a rocket.

Though there were some who had doubted private companies making rockets, the pedigree of the people at Skyroot Aerospace proved them wrong.

The Hyderabad-based rocket startup was founded by Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka in June 2018. To date, the company has raised Rs 526 crore in funds and has about 200 employees.

Incidentally, the two founders are from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Chandana from IIT Kharagpur and Daka from IIT Madras.

Grateful to my family, colleagues, investors, and all well-wishers for being an integral part of this journey… Super pumped up for the next decade,” Chandana said about his journey.

On his part, Daka describes himself as a “former flight computer engineer at the rocket center of ISRO. Designed and realized multiple avionics modules for Indian launch vehicles”.

At Skyroot Aerospace, he leads operations, avionics.

For about three years (2012-2015), Daka worked at the flight computers group, avionics, at VSSC. In 2015 he joined Xilinx as Senior Product Applications Engineer.

And in 2018, he cofounded Skyroot Aerospace along with Chandana.

The duo also brought in Padma Shri awardee and liquid propulsion expert V. Gnanagandhi. Gnanagandhi was also with ISRO and is an expert in the cryogenic engine.

For the rocket’s solid fuel, Skyroot Aerospace brought in another ISRO expert, V.G. Eswaran, former project director of the world’s third largest solid fuelled rocket stage.

To check the quality systems, the company roped in S. Selvaraju, former Director at the Directorate of Systems Reliability & Quality, ISRO. He has checked the quality systems for over 50 rocket launches of ISRO.

As regards the research and development and strategic initiatives, Skyroot Aerospace has another former ISRO hand – C.V.S. Kiran. A material scientist, Kiran has about 16 years of experience across academia and industry, including at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, in Germany.

Speaking about their last game of the Pune leg, Tamil Thalaivas’ Head Coach Ashan Kumar said, “It was very important for us to win against Patna Pirates and we played well, but the Patna side is also good. Ashan Kumar also summed up his team’s performance in the Pune leg, “We put up a decent performance in Pune. We picked up quite well and climbed up the points table. We lost two games, but we didn’t lose by a big margin. I am happy with the team’s performance in Pune and we’ll play even better in the next leg.”

0

India’s Rhythm produced a power-packed performance to enter the men’s +92kg quarterfinals while the youth Asian champion Vanshaj and three more Indian male pugilists marched into the Last-16 stage on the third day of the IBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships 2022 in La Nucia, Spain.

The rhythm started off the match aggressively against Latvia’s Miks Berzins. His relentless attack from the word goes left no room for the opponent to recover as the referees intervened just after a few minutes in the first round before announcing India the winner of the round-of-16 match with Referee Stops Contest verdict.

This came after Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (51kg) and Bharat Joon (92kg) began the day’s proceedings for India with dominating wins in the men’s round of 32. While Jadumani outpunched Azerbaijan’s Amin Mammadzada 5-0, Bharat also thrashed Spanish boxer, Ruben Ibanez, by a similar margin.

Later, Vanshaj, who hails from Haryana, extended his winning run at the prestigious championships when he blanked Japan’s Masatake Yoshizumi by a unanimous decision in the 63.5kg Last-32 bout. Aman Rathore (67kg) too had an easy outing as he knocked out Puerto Rico Alexis Soto convincingly by a 5-0 margin.

Victoria election: More than 50 Indo-Australian candidates in fray

0

More than 50 Indian-origin candidates across all political parties and independents are in the fray for the November 26 Victoria state election in Australia.

Many of these candidates are from the fledgling New Democrats party, which was launched in early October by Kaushaliya Vaghela, the first Indian-born member of the Victorian parliament.

Led by Premier Daniel Andrews, the incumbent Labor government is seeking a third successive four-year term, and will be challenged by the Liberals, which has under 10 Indian-origin candidates, media reports said.

In order to form a government in the state, a party must win 45 seats in the lower house.

According to the advocacy group Centre of Multicultural Political Engagement, Literacy and Leadership, the Liberal party ran the highest number of candidates of color in the May 2022 federal election.

Preet Singh, an Indian-origin Liberal candidate for Tarneit, a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, says that if elected, he would work for better transport and improve roads in the area.

Singh will be competing against Dylan Wight from the Labor party, Jaydeep Patel from the New Democrats, Clare Miller from the Australian Greens.

Raja Reddy, the Liberal candidate for Laverton, who works as a migration agent, faces Michael Wirth from the Labor Party, Gurneet Soni from the New Democrats, and Braishna Durzada from the Australian Greens Party.

The Bengaluru metro rail project is on track to complete 175 km of commute by June 2025, a top official said here.

Addressing a session on the ‘future of mobility at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2022 on Friday, Anjum Parwez, Managing Director, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), said as part of the second and third phases of the project, Bengaluru will have 314 km of metro rail connectivity by 2041.

He said construction of metro lines is also progressing well on the airport side.

He said the biggest challenge in urban mobility is the integration of multi-modal transport systems and moving people to get into public transport from personalized transport modes.

Parwez said urban India was the most neglected area until the 1990s, as urban planning was not in sync with connectivity or mobility issues.

He said BMRCL is getting a lot of support from startups in mobility to ensure that commuters have last-mile connectivity.

He said the corporation is tying up with mobility providers to get people to reach the nodal point and commute to their workplaces.

Parwez said the Namma Metro has recently gone digital with its payment options that include the use of QR code scans and UPI-based payment options which has met with good response from commuters.

Also, there is no waiting time for passengers who are in a hurry as there is no need to stand in the queues to buy tickets or cards now.

He said BMRCL is working on a transit-oriented development where commuters live close to the stations and to the workplace.

Besides, the BMRCL also intends to integrate all aggregators by bringing out a mobility card for commuters.

He said the corporation is in talks with BMTC to have bus stops at metro stations to help commuters hop on and hop off both modes of transport.

He said bike taxis and carpooling should be encouraged although the government of Karnataka had put brakes on their operation.

The BMRCL is also working on introducing shopping options for commuters inside and outside the metro stations. He said the BMRCL plans to sell office space in metro stations and provide end-to-end solutions to all the stakeholders.

Amit Bhatt, Managing Director, International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), said urbanization in India is 33 percent while it is about 80-85 per cent in European and American countries.

He said about 66 percent of urban infrastructure is yet to be built in India as the country is set to see a number of cities being built. The biggest challenge is to ensure zero emission, zero exclusion, and zero accidents in urban transport, he said.

Vadiraj Krishnamurthy, Vice President of Technology and Innovation, Bosch Global Software Technologies, said the future is software-defined fully programmable vehicles.

“The key enablers of urban transport are personalized multi-modal mobility, automated mobility, electrified and connected mobility. Connecting vehicles using technology is an engineering challenge of the future,” he said.
