The interest of the audience is quite low as previous said by Gilchrist: T20 World Cup

0

Adam Gilchrist legendary Australian cricketer thinks the audience excitement near our team little bit low for the entire ICC T20 World Cup now, With the belief of the ace wicketkeeper-batter there was no feeling of much interest from the way crowds came out to the Australian games”.

Fans’ interest in Australia compared with an audience of  India, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe, The cricketer said the test between India and Zimbabwe at the MCG where 82,000 spectators did up to witness the Super 12 game, was a completely other meaning.

Although the time may say what is the purpose behind the decreasing interest among the team fans, Australians are losing their passion for national side games, a 50-year cricketer said. I think one of the main reasons for the losing their interest in the game may be Aaron Finch’s game was fall down with the opening Super 12 game of the T20 World Cup to New Zealand by 89 runs.

Australia could not progress into the semifinals, with England’s victory over Sri Lanka on Saturday putting paid to the hosts’ hopes of making the grade.

“You’ve only got to look at the crowds, the crowds were down,” the veteran of 96 Tests told SEN WA Breakfast on Monday. “There was no feeling of a huge excitement about this World Cup from the way crowds turned up to the Australian games.

“On the flip side of that, look at what was almost a dead rubber on Sunday night in Melbourne, Zimbabwe vs India and there are 82,000 people there. That’s just a whole different conversation isn’t it, that’s one of the great phenomena of sports. The Indian passion for the game continues to go to new levels. That’s something that’s really positive and exciting about cricket.”

Perhaps the most telling sign that the home fans could be losing interest in their team is the fact that only 18,672 spectators turned up at the Adelaide Oval to watch Australia’s must-win game against Afghanistan.

“Whether those crowds being down and the appetite and enthusiasm for World Cup is reflective of the current team, I’ve got no idea,” Gilchrist continued. “People vote with their feet, but I don’t know if it was too early in the summer, whether the footy (football) season was so recently completed that we weren’t ready to move to cricket mode yet.

“Any time Australia have hosted a World Cup, men’s or women’s, it’s always been at the end of the summer, so there’s a whole build-up and promotion of it and expectation for it. It felt a little bit flat in that regard around the Aussie team. We’ll see how it plays out over the summer because there’s plenty of cricket coming up,” he added

TRS seeks objections on move to become BRS

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has sought objections to its decision to change its name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

A month after taking a decision to change the name, Telangana’s ruling party has issued a public notice in this regard.

Issued in the name of the party president, the notice informs the public that TRS proposes to change its name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

“If anyone has any objection to the proposed new name, they may send their objection with the reasons thereof, to the secretary (political party), Election Commission of India, Nirvachan Sadan, Ashoka Road, New Delhi, 110001 within 30 days of the publication,” reads the notice.

The notice was issued a day after TRS registered victory in Munugode Assembly by-election. This was first electoral win for the party following the decision to change its name.

TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday spoke about the delay on part of the Election Commission of India in deciding on the party’s request to recognise BRS as a national party.

On October 5, an extended general body meeting of TRS presided by party president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had passed a resolution to change the name of the party to BRS to expand its activities nation-wide. The meeting also amended the party Constitution in this regard.

The next day, TRS had informed the Election Commission of India of its decision to change its name.

A delegation of party leaders led by former MP B. Vinod Kumar met officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi and handed over a copy of the resolution adopted at TRS general body meeting.

The ECI officials had told the delegation that they would take further action after taking into consideration objections, if any.

It was in 2001 that KCR had floated TRS to revive the movement for separate statehood to Telangana. After achieving the goal in 2014 following a 13-year-long struggle, he formed the first government in the new state and retained power in 2018.

Samantha never revealed she was fighting such a condition: ‘Yashoda’ co-star Unni Mukundan

Calling Samantha a dedicated and hardworking artiste, actor Unni Mukundan, who plays a doctor in Samantha’s upcoming film, ‘Yashoda’, says the actress never revealed that she was fighting a condition called Myositis while shooting for the film.

Sharing his experience of shooting with Samantha for the action-packed thriller, Unni Mukundan says, “Samantha is a very dedicated and hard working actress. She has prepared a lot for her role that includes the fights, action and emotional scenes.”

In a recent post, Samantha revealed that she was suffering from an auto-immune condition called Myositis while filming ‘Yashoda’.

However, the dedicated actress didn’t let her ailment hamper her work and continued to shoot without informing anyone.

Samantha plays a surrogate mother, unravelling the secrets of the medical world in the film. Sources say she has put forth a power-packed performance.

Besides Samantha, popular actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Unni Mukundan, Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Shatru, Madhurima, Kalpika Ganesh, Divya Sripada and Priyanka Sharma play crucial roles in the film.

Virat Kohli earned his maiden ICC Player of the Month awards for October 2022 following a series of blazing performances as India charged their way to the ICC T20 World Cup semifinals, currently underway in Australia.

Kohli was elected winner following a global vote conducted among media representatives, ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and fans registered at icc-cricket.com.

As well as scoring a brilliant half-century against Netherlands in Sydney, he produced an unforgettable innings in the stunning victory over Pakistan in front of a capacity crowd at the Melbourne Cticket Ground to kick off their Super 12 campaign in the T20 World Cup on October 23.

Coming in at 31/4, the former India skipper asserted his dominance on the rival bowlers in a memorable display of controlled aggression, eventually guiding his side to chase down the 160 target on the final ball, thanks to his unbeaten 82 from 53 balls.

“It is a great honour for me to have been voted the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October. Being chosen as the standout player by fans across the globe as well as the panel makes this accolade even more special for me,” said Kohli.

NASA ready to launch Artemis I moon mission.

US space agency can able to launch the Artemis I moon mission to space on November 14 with hope after the many failed tries.

Artemis I will able to provide  human existence in the deep space and NASA’s commitment of how to live in moon and is there any possibility to stay near space. On November 14 the space agency will set time of 69-minute launch which will opens at 12.07 AM. EST 10.37 PM India time.

Artemis I is the first integrated flight test of NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, an un-crewed Orion spacecraft, and the ground systems at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida that will pave the way for a crewed test flight and future human lunar exploration as part of Artemis.

“Artemis I mission of the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft will come at launch pad 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida after nearly nine–hour journey from the Vehicle Assembly Building, on November 4”,said NASA.

In September, the US space agency called off the Artemis I launch, owing to Tropical Storm Ian threat. On September 3, NASA attempted to launch Artemis I but called it off after detecting a liquid hydrogen leak.

The US space agency on August 30 scrubbed the mission launch for the first time owing to technical glitch with one of the SLS rocket’s engines.

Nov 8 Lunar eclipse: World to witness thrilling ‘Blood Moon’ spectacle in the sky

0

On the evening of November 8, as the Earth’s shadow envelopes its sole satellite for nearly one-and-half hours, the world will witness a thrilling and chilling spectacle of a ‘Blood Moon’ lunar eclipse, a prominent astronomer said here on Monday.

Coming exactly 14 days (two Tuesdays) after the October 25 partial solar eclipse — the lunar eclipse will be seen in totality in the northeastern states, but shall be only partially visible in the rest of India in the evening as the sun sets, said Prof. Bharat Adur, Director, Akash Ganga Centre for Astronomy (AGCA) here.

“Tomorrow, the Earth’s looming shadow will cover the Moon and during this period it will appear a dark reddish colour, almost like a large drop of blood balanced in the sky… This phenomenon is called a ‘Blood Moon’ and it’s an exciting spectacle,” said Prof. Adur.

He urged the people to view it wherever possible, as this will be the last total lunar eclipse, and the next one (total lunar eclipse) due only after three years on September 7, 2025.

The Earth will come between the Sun and Moon and the blue planet’s monstrous shadow — from a staggering distance of 3.93 lakh kms — will shroud its small natural satellite, partially or fully, depending on the angle of alignment from where it is viewed, Prof. Adur explained.

The Sun is around 109 times bigger than Earth and over 148-million kms away, while the Earth is nearly four times larger than the Moon, with an average distance of 3,85 lakh kms separating them.

“In a total lunar eclipse, the Moon is entirely blanketed by the Earth’s darkest shadow, called the ‘umbra’, and at this time, the Moon appears a dark-reddish colour, or what is called the ‘Blood Moon’ phenomenon,” Prof. Adur said.

In scientific terms, it’s called the ‘Rayleigh Scattering’ as during a lunar eclipse the only sunlight that reaches the Moon passes through the Earth’s atmosphere, thus turning the Moon an apparent reddish colour.

This is the second celestial event since the last partial Solar Eclipse (October 25), and can be witnessed by people in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, parts of Asia, Russia, North and South Americas, Australia, North Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean regions.

Despite the scary myths or deep religious aspects associated with any eclipse (solar/lunar), Prof. Adur assured that there is absolutely no harm in viewing the unusual ‘Blood Moon’ on Tuesday with naked eyes or with binoculars which will enhance the reddish colour.

The northeastern parts of India like Kohima, Agartala, Guwahati and other regions in the world will witness it in totality on Tuesday, the final eclipse of 2022.

As the Moon will be below the horizon during the eclipse hours, most other parts of India will miss the exciting starting phases of both the partial and total eclipse, he said.

Kolkata, New Delhi, Chennai along with Mumbai, can witness only the partial phase, and in the country’s commercial capital barely 14 per cent of the Moon’s obscuration can be viewed at 18.03 hours in the setting sun.

However, the Moon will be seen 60 per cent covered in Nagpur, 66 per cent in Srinagar and in varying degrees in other cities, said Prof. Adur.

In case people miss the ‘Blood Moon’ on Tuesday, they can wait for October 28, 2023, when there will be another partial lunar eclipse that will be visible in some parts of the country, Prof. Adur smiled.

Google expands India-first flood tracking tool to more countries

0

Google has expanded its AI flood forecasting services, first introduced in India back in 2018, to 18 additional countries across Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

The company also launched “FloodHub”, a platform that displays flood forecasts and shows when and where floods might occur, so that people directly at risk can get the information they need and authorities can assist them effectively.

In 2018, the company began their flood forecasting initiative to help combat the catastrophic damage from floods.

“In the first three years, we expanded our programme to cover much of India and Bangladesh, working in partnership with the Indian Central Water Commission and with the Bangladesh Water Development Board, covering an area with about 220 million people and sending out 40 million potentially life-saving alerts,” said Google in a blogpost.

“In 2021, our operational systems were further expanded to cover an area with over 360 million people. Thanks to better flood prediction technology, we sent out over 115 million alerts — that’s about triple the amount we previously sent out,” it added.

The company has also extended its wildfire tracking program to a few more countries after piloting it in the US.

Using new AI models based on satellite imagery, the company detect wildfire boundaries and show their real-time location in Search and Maps.

“Since July, we’ve covered more than 30 big wildfire events in the US and Canada, helping inform people and firefighting teams with over 7 million views in Search and Maps. Today, wildfire detection is now available in the US, Canada, Mexico and parts of Australia,” said Google.

Director P. S. Mithran does it with ease. Of course, director of photography George sets the mood with his lighting and special angles and effects. Stunt master Dhilip added the spice, but editor Ruban really made magic with his editing skills! Praveen Raja’s costumes were just all underwater. This is a very raw footage. Enjoy the Behind the Camera!”

Set ‘naya rivaj’ to re-elect BJP govt in Himachal: Modi

Launching his election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday pleaded electorates in this Himachal Pradesh town with a promise to set ‘naya rivaj’ (new tradition) to re-elect the BJP government in the state.

Eyeing to woo female voters, who outnumbered male voters in every election, he asked them to visit door to door in this area to convey “my greetings” to them as this time elections are very crucial.

“The people of Himachal are determined to make a strong comeback of the BJP government. This land of soldiers, this land of brave mothers, when it takes a resolution, it only shows it by proving it,” said Modi, who donned a Himachali cap, in his nearly 40-minute address in this town in Mandi — the home district of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

On his arrival, Modi was extended rousing reception by party workers and sympathizers, some donning traditional dresses. Many women were present en route, waving their hands at the Prime Minister’s arrival.

The Prime Minister said this time Himachal’s election is special. “This time, one vote each, to be held on November 12, will decide the development journey of Himachal for the next 25 years.”

Trying to build an emotional bond, Modi said: “I have visited Sundernagar several times before. I have also trekked inaccessible areas of Siraj, Kullu, Kinnaur, Chamba and Kangra. The roads here, such a beautiful BBMB lake of Sundernagar, how can anyone forget.”

Taking a jibe at the state’s main opposition Congress on the day it launched its poll manifesto, the Prime Minister said for the party staying in the government has been like running erstwhile kingdoms.

“Making false promises and giving false poll guarantees has been an old trick of the Congress. The country is witnessing that to how the Congress has been lying in the name of loan waiver of the farmers.”

Batting for a double-engine government that has given the state new infrastructure in every step, Modi emphasized that when there was the BJP government in Delhi and Himachal, the work was going on a fast pace.

“But as the Congress comes back, all development comes to a standstill.”

The Congress has always downplayed the role of Himachal Pradesh in national politics because they felt that the state was small and sent three-four members to the Parliament. “These were the reasons why Himachal never reached the heights of development.”

Amidst chants of “Modi-Modi” by the audience, largely the women, the Prime Minister was categorically clear in saying that development in the state was possible as people have voted the BJP to power both in the Centre and in the state.

“Today with the double-engine government, gas cylinders have reached every household. Electricity has reached everywhere, roads have also been built, water has also reached.”

Playing the religious card, Modi said the BJP has resolved to build Ram Temple. “Today such a grand Ram temple is being built in Ayodhya.”

Paying tributes to Shyam Saran Negi, 106, the first voter of independent India who cast his 34th vote for the forthcoming Assembly polls three days ago, who passed away at his native place Kalpa on Saturday, Modi said when he was coming from Delhi, he received the unfortunate news of the demise of India’s first voter.

T20 World Cup: Optimistic India seeks to qualify for semifinals against a lively Zimbabwe

0

Exactly two weeks after India opened their Men’s T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan in a thrilling four-wicket victory at a sold-out Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be back at the iconic venue to seal their semifinal berth in the final Group 2 match of Super 12s against a lively Zimbabwe on Sunday.

Though India have a 5-2 edge over Zimbabwe in T20Is with their last face-off happening in 2016, it will be the first time that these two teams will be meeting in a T20 World Cup game.

While India have survived scares against Pakistan and Bangladesh, they will be fully aware that Zimbabwe can’t be taken lightly. After all, the Chevrons, as Zimbabwe are called back home, did inflict an upset one-run win over Pakistan at Perth.

Known for going hard at power-play due to embracing ultra-attacking batting approach, India haven’t been able to get a solid opening partnership so far in the tournament. A look at their power-play scores suggests that the side have been suffering from opening blues: 31/3 against Pakistan (MCG), 32/1 against Netherlands (SCG), 33/2 against South Africa (Perth Stadium) and 37/1 against Bangladesh at Adelaide Oval. Their highest opening partnership is just 23, which doesn’t do justice to the prowess of Rohit and Rahul.

Though Rohit got a scratchy fifty against Netherlands and Rahul slammed a half-century against Bangladesh to end a string of low scores, India would like for the duo to have a good opening partnership before knockout arrive.

Virat Kohli has been explosive with the bat while Suryakumar Yadav has chipped in whenever India needed a move on in their momentum. India would also want for Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik to make a sizeable contribution with lower-order power-hitting.

The bowling has been great for India barring when South Africa chased down 134 or Litton Das was putting up a show with the bat in power-play. Young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is admirably leading the charge with the new ball as well as in the death overs, with the other bowlers chipping in. After being sloppy in the field against the Proteas, India were excellent in this department in a rain-hit match against Bangladesh.

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will be aiming to finish the tournament on a high which has been a memorable one for them. In all-rounder Sikandar Raza, they have a shining sensation who has been a force behind them for sparking performances in the tournament.

They would like for captain Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, Wesley Madhevere and Ryan Burl to get big runs with the bat as well as look for improvements in fielding. In the bowling department, tall fast-bowler Blessing Muzarabani has been among the wickets with Raza, Tendai Chatara, Richard Ngarava and Luke Jongwe supporting him.

Zimbabwe have had inflicted an upset on India, when they won by three runs during the ODI World Cup in England in 1999. They would like to do an encore of it in 2022, but India have other ideas as they seek to seal semifinals spot.

Squads:

India:

Rohit Sharma (captain), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Shami.

Zimbabwe:

Craig Ervine (captain), Ryan Burl, Regis Chakabva, Tendai Chatara, Bradley Evans, Luke Jongwe, Clive Madande, Wessly Madhevere, Wellington Masakadza, Tony Munyonga, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Sikandar Raza, Milton Shumba and Sean Williams.

Microsoft has rolled out an update on Xbox Cloud Gaming that will provide a higher resolution and smoother streaming experience on Linux and ChromeOS devices for gamers who stream the game on browsers.

Since Steam Deck (handheld gaming computer) runs Linux, it also received the benefits of the update.

According to Windows Central, CohenJordan, who is an Xbox employee, shared the news on Reddit.

“We’ve just released a set of performance improvements on Xbox Cloud Gaming for gamers playing via a browser on Linux and ChromeOS devices. You can expect a higher resolution and smoother streaming experience,” CohenJordan wrote on Reddit.

“These changes also complete a long journey of upgrading our browser gaming experience to a different streaming technology. You should now have a more consistent experience in the browser, no matter what device you use,” he added.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is available on an increasing number of devices, including phones, tablets, PCs, and Xbox consoles, according to the report.

Last month, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella shared that more than 20 million people have streamed games using Xbox Cloud Gaming, double the 10 million figure from earlier this year.

At the company’s quarterly earnings call, Nadella said that subscriptions to PC Game Pass increased by 159 per cent over the previous year.

The company is transforming how games are distributed, played and seen through cloud gaming. The service has been used to stream games by more than 20 million users so far.

Campaign for Malaysian general election begins after nomination day

Nominations for candidates seeking to contest the 222 seats making up the lower house of the Malaysian Parliament as part of the country’s general election proceeded smoothly on Saturday.

Candidates are vying for those seats including the former ruling coalition Barisan Nasional, the main opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan and several other political parties and independent candidates, with local media putting the total contesting at over 1,000, reports Xinhua news agency.

The number of candidates running for the seats makes this election a highly contested one, with an influx of new parties and independents leading to numerous multi-cornered fights.

This election will also see a record number of eligible voters due to the lowering of the voting age from 21 to 18 years old and automatic voter registration, which will see all citizens over 18 years old being added to the voter register.

Among key issues for voters are economy and inflation, political stability, corruption and inter-ethnic tensions in the multi-ethnic country.

The polling day has been set for November 19.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob dissolved Parliament on October 10, paving the way for a snap election, citing the need to end the political uncertainty which has seen two premiers since 2020.

Twitter says job cuts won’t impact core content moderation

0

Twitter, which has fired about half of its workforce under Elon Musk along with axing key content moderation teams right before the US midterm elections, said that its “core moderation capabilities” are still in place.

Yoel Roth, Twitter’s head of safety and integrity, said in a tweet thread that while the company said goodbye to incredibly talented friends and colleagues, “our core moderation capabilities remain in place”.

“The reduction in force affected approximately 15 per cent of our Trust & Safety organisation (as opposed to approximately 50 per cent cuts company-wide), with our front-line moderation staff experiencing the least impact,” Roth informed.

Last week, Twitter restricted access to its internal tools for some users, including some members of Roth’s team, for security reasons.

“Most of the 2,000+ content moderators working on front-line review were not impacted, and access will be fully restored in the coming days,” he added.

Roth said that more than 80 per cent of Twitter’s incoming content moderation volume was completely unaffected by this access change.

“The daily volume of moderation actions we take stayed steady through this period,” he said.

However, Twitter has had to “deprioritise a few workflows” like helping with lost password requests and “some” suspension appeals.

Twitter is “working to get these back online in the days to come”.

Content moderation on Twitter remains a top concern as US midterm elections approaches next week.
