Andhra releases Rs 2,096 cr under YSR Rythu Bharosa-PM Kisan

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday released Rs 2,096 crore towards the second tranche of financial assistance to farmers under the YSR Rythu Bharosa-PM Kisan scheme.

By pressing the button, he transferred the amount. It will be directly credited to the bank accounts of 50.92 lakh farmers across the state.

Addressing a mammoth public meeting at Allagadda in Nandyal district, he said the first tranche of Rs 7,500 out of the total assistance of Rs 13,500 to each farmer was disbursed in May this year.

In the second installment amounting to Rs 2096.04 crore released on Monday, each beneficiary will get Rs 4000 for Kharif harvesting and Rabi sowing. The last installment of Rs 2000 each will be released ahead of Sankranti in January next year.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers, he said the government has been spending Rs 7,000 crore every year under the scheme for the benefit of more than 50 lakh farmers. With today’s disbursement, the government has so far incurred Rs 25,971.33 crore under the welfare scheme, he said.

This is the fourth consecutive year of the Rythu Bharosa Scheme implementation. The scheme is being implemented not only for agricultural land owners but also for tenant farmers.

The Chief Minister said the government has so far spent a whopping Rs 1,33,526.92 crore for the benefit of farmers under various welfare schemes such as Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs), e-cropping, free crop insurance, input subsidy, free nine-hour supply of power, mechanization and Minimum Support Price (MSP).

After YSRCP came to power, farmer families received Rs 51,000 each under various welfare schemes, he said.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the Almighty has been blessing the state with good rainfall every year after the YSRCP came to power and there was no need to declare even a single Mandal in the state as drought-affected compared to the previous TDP regime which declared several mandals as drought affected every year.

While the foodgrain production in the TDP regime stood at 154 lakh tonnes, the state achieved a record of 167.24 lakh tonnes of foodgrains after the YSRCP came to power, he said.

Jagan Reddy said the TDP regime spent Rs 685 crore towards the zero interest-based loans for farmers in its five-year regime while the YSRCP government so far spent Rs 1282 crore for the same. During the YSRCP regime so far, 44,28,000 farmers received Rs 6684 crore as crop insurance while only 30,85,000 farmers received Rs 3411 crore as crop insurance during the previous regime.

While Chandrababu Naidu neglected farmers’ welfare by running only 12 labs to check spurious seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, the YSRCP government has established 147 such labs out of which 70 labs are operational, he said.

He alleged that TDP Government failed to pay Rs 2558 crore input subsidy to farmers while the YSRCP government so far disbursed Rs 1800 crore input subsidy for 20,85,000 farmers.

Not even a single farmer’s family is found without receiving financial aid in case of suicides, he claimed.

In response to the appeal of the Allagadda MLA Gangula Brijendra Reddy (Nani), the Chief Minister sanctioned an amount of Rs 97 crore for development works in the constituency.

Bombay Gym rally to down Army in final of All India & South Asia Rugby Championship

0

Rallying from an indifferent performance in the first half, which saw them trailing 8-10 to Army Sports Control Board, hosts Bombay Gymkhana turned the tables in the second session to score six points and prevail 14-10 in the title match of the 87th edition of the All India & South Asia Rugby 15s Championship.

The Plate final was won by Calcutta Cricket & Football Club (CCFC), who outplayed Magicians Foundation India 28-5. It was only fitting that Bombay Gym and CCFC took home the main honors, as this Trophy was instituted jointly by them in 1924 and is one of the oldest rugby tournaments in the world played at their ground here, on Sunday evening.

In the bronze medal match, Future Hope Harlequins defeated Bangalore RFC 28-14.

The Army team, known for its strong defense and speed between counter moves, held sway in the first-half scoring the first try of the match through Lalbeisei, which was promptly converted by prolific kicker Zosangzuala for a 7-0 lead. The hosts hit back with a try of their own through Siddant Mehta, which was converted by Brandon Zyl, to level scores. However, the Army team ensured they took the break with a 10-7 lead, Zosangzuala scoring from a penalty, the organizers informed in a release on Monday.

Bombay Gym tightened their formation in the second half, pressing ahead through their big forwards, and also kept a tight rein on the moves of the Army players. Their strong play paid dividends when they managed to force two penalties, which were converted by Brandon and Rayomand Unwala to ensure a deserving win for the hosts.

Results:

Cup final: Bom Gym 14 (Siddant Mehta 1 try, Brandon Zyl 2 conversions, Rayomand Unwala 1 conversion) bt ASCB 10 (Lalbeisei 1 try, Zosangzulala 2 conversions).

Plate final: CCFC 28 bt Magicians Foundation India 5.

YouTube rolls out iPhone widgets to open subscriptions search

0

YouTube has introduced iPhone home screen widgets to immediately open home, shorts, and subscription searches.

‘Quick Actions’ is a tool to search and browse the application, reports 9To5Google.

The ‘Search YouTube’ section at the top instantly opens the UI (user interface) with the active keyboard while the microphone icon brings voice search.

Another widget called ‘Search’ allows for short text entering, the report said.

Recently, the application introduced handles, a new way for people to easily find and engage with creators and each other on the Google-owned streaming platform.

Handles appear on channel pages and Shorts so that they will be instantly and consistently recognizable. It is simpler and faster to mention each other in comments, community posts, video descriptions, and more.

“For example, creators can be shouted out in a mention in comments or tagged in the title of a recent collab, helping them increase visibility and reach with new audiences,” the company said in a blog post.

“Handles join channel names as another way to identify a YouTube channel, but unlike channel names, handles are truly unique to each channel so creators can further establish their distinct presence and brand on YouTube,” it added.

Apple may launch macOS Ventura this month

0

Apple might launch macOS Ventura in the last week of this month with support for the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.

According to Bloomberg’s tech reporter Mark Gurman, the only significant changes to the new MacBook Pro models will be the availability of M2 Pro and M2 Max chip options, reports MacRumors.

The new iPad Pro models with the M2 processor will be unveiled in “a matter of days”, said Gurman.

The new MacBook Pros are “on track to launch in the near future”, he added.

It is unclear whether the new MacBook Pros will debut along with the newest iPad Pro.

Like the initial 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2019 and the first Macs with the M1 chip in 2020, the company frequently introduces new Macs in November, the report said.

The company is working on an updated Mac mini with an M2 chip.

“The company has ushered in its late fall iPad and Mac updates, but this year’s rollout will be more subdued. The company will launch the products on its website without the kind of gathering we saw in September with the iPhone 14’s debut,” Gurman added.

Don’t draw comparisons between Asia Cup and T20 World Cup: Sri Lanka’s Karunaratne

0

Sri Lankan bowling allrounder Chamika Karunaratne believes comparisons cannot be drawn between his side losing to Afghanistan in the Asia Cup opener and going on to win the tournament and being crushed by Namibia and hoping to win the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

The 26-year-old right-am pace bowler felt the ground conditions in Australia and the weather made the T20 World Cup a different cup of tea altogether, which had no comparison with the Asia Cup.

Sri Lanka, after losing the opening match to Afghanistan in the Asia Cup in the UAE recently went on to lift the trophy defeating Pakistan in the final.

In response to a question about having an inauspicious start in the Asia Cup and going on to win the tournament and whether they would be able to script a similar fairy-tale story in Australia, Karunaratne said, “The Asia Cup we lost to Afghanistan in the first match, and after that, we won all the matches. But we aren’t thinking the same way because the Asia Cup is history. Now it’s like we have to think about the World Cup. It’s not the Asia Cup — and different places, conditions, and countries.

“The ground (here) is also so different. Even one side is 57 (meters); one side is 55, and long straight, straight. So many things are different, so we have to plan and we have to play our game because we have a young side that we can — as players have so much energy and so much fit players,” Karunaratne was quoted as saying by ICC.

The allrounder said, despite the early setback of losing the Group A First Round match to Namibia by 55 runs here on Sunday, Sri Lanka will be banking on its young players to stage a strong comeback.

“We have to take that advantage (young players), and we have to come back really strong and we have to play our game in a better way.”

Asked about his views on the UAE team, whom Sri Lanka meet next on Tuesday, Karunaratne said, “Yeah, the UAE, the whole team is really good. You see yesterday how Namibia played the match (against Sri Lanka), so we have to plan really well for the UAE team and we have to play good cricket tomorrow. Yesterday (Sunday) we lost the match, and so right now, somehow we have to win — no matter what, we have to win the next two matches. I think the boys all know that. We are definitely going to put more than 100 percent in the next two matches.

“We are looking at the players that we have right now. All four teams are playing good cricket. Even the last match yesterday, UAE versus the Netherlands finished in the last ball. We don’t know what can happen, and because this game is always exciting and a bunch of funny things. Anything can happen, so we’ll see,” he added.

Media reports claim Nayanthara, Vignesh registered marriage six years ago

Even as the probe into whether Tamil cinema’s celebrity couple — actress Nayanthara and director Vignesh Shivan — had violated surrogacy laws to become parents of two baby boys born earlier this month, unconfirmed media reports claimed that the couple in an affidavit had submitted that they got married six years ago.

The reports claimed that in the affidavit submitted to the Tamil Nadu Health Department, the couple said that the surrogate mother who gave birth to the children was a relative of Nayanthara and that she was based out of Dubai.

The couple is also believed to have said that they got their marriage registered six years ago.

When Vignesh Shivan, whose grand wedding with Nayanthara on June 9 this year made headlines, announced on October 9 that Nayanthara and he had turned parents, it raised eyebrows. This is because one of the conditions for a couple to avail of surrogacy is that they must have been married for five years.

Now this latest piece of information, if found factual, is bound to answer a lot of questions that were raised at the time of the birth of the twins.

International conclave to focus on entrepreneurship in space industry

0

A three-day international space conclave titled ‘Space Technology: The Next Business Frontier’ will focus on entrepreneurship and networking in the space industry.

The space conclave organized by the US Consulate General, Chennai, and hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT- Madras), and the Indian Space Association (ISpA) will explore the ways to optimize business opportunities and collaboration across the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

The three-day conclave from October 15-17 has 80 participants drawn from several Indo-Pacific nations, including India, the US, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Germany, the UK, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

In the inaugural session of the conclave, Drew Schufletowski, Minister Counselor for Economic, Environment, Science and Technology Affairs, US Embassy, New Delhi, said, “The greatest growth potential in our space relationship, and those of other Indo-Pacific partners, involve the private sector. India’s space sector is undergoing a transformation with private companies taking on a more influential role in both design and production of launch vehicles, satellites, ground stations, and other elements at the heart of space exploration and applications.”

Schufletowski added, “Indian firms are now building their own satellite constellations for earth observation and designing small launch vehicles to place them into low-Earth orbit. This is where space companies in the United States and across the Indo-Pacific can enhance this commercial sector momentum, through partnerships in trade, investment, and technological collaboration.”

The three-day conclave will discuss the core themes of space policy, scientific research and development, and space entrepreneurship. The conclave aims to establish the Association of Space Entrepreneurs in the Indo-Pacific (ASEIP), a networking and lobbying platform focused on innovation and entrepreneurship in the space sector.

The stakeholders will recommend a future roadmap to promote international aerospace business and scientific space collaborations.

Satya Chakravarthy, professor of aerospace engineering and director of the National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD) at IIT-Madras, delivered the inaugural address.
