If we can have a Marvel universe, why not one for our Puranas: Nikhil Siddhartha

Thanks to ‘Kartikeya 2’, Tollywood actor Nikhil Siddhartha is the latest pan-India star to emerge from down South. The movie which has catapulted Nikhil Siddhartha to the Rs 100-crore club, is a sequel to his earlier Telugu hit movie ‘Kartikeya’.

The socio-mythological thriller revolving around one of the most adored and adventurous figures of Indian mythology — Sri Krishna, has had people across North India flocking to movie theatres.

While obviously happy about the tremendous response the movie is garnering at the box office in Hindi markets, lead actor Nikhil Siddhartha confides that at one point, they were worried if the film would make it to the theatres at all.

“During the pandemic we were not sure if the movie was ever going to release or not. From a situation like that to a situation like this, where people across the country are watching it. It’s like a miracle.”

Nikhil recalled several instances during the movie’s making, when providence saved the day in an almost unbelievable manner. The team shot extensively in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and it got bogged down in unknown terrain and hostile weather conditions.

Talking about such incidents, he said: “Now looking at the way the movie has taken off, sometimes you feel that is there a divine hand or intervention because when we were shooting, we had huge snow blocks. We were blocked in by snow and we thought we were never going to finish the shoot. But then we had the Border Roads Organisation coming in like gods, and opening it up for us, minutes after we were blocked in.

“Then, in the Rann of Kutch we had the BSF helping us when we were about to shoot because we did not have the permissions. So several such incidents happened where people intervened.”

Sharing the philosophy of the film and how it is proved in the film, he says: “Our movie’s motto is ‘daiva manishi roopena’, which means ‘God comes in the form of humans’. We had many people helping the film. So that’s when I had to believe in miracles. I do believe in Lord Sri Krishna, I do believe in the dialogue he said in the movie,” he elaborated.

For the lead actor of ‘Kartikeya 2’, the movie is more than box office success or pan-India recognition. Nikhil explained that the movie is more about getting today’s generation closer to its cultural roots.

Nikhil said: “We made this movie without keeping box office numbers in mind. It was a very honest attempt that we talk about Sri Krishna in the right way. And talk a little bit about our Indian roots and culture which I think the younger generation is not being informed about.

“We have the Marvel universe, we have Spiderman, the Avatar universe, but we don’t have a universe which talks about our Puranas and our Indian culture which was I feel much much better.”

The former India skipper on Tuesday shared pictures from his workout session on homegrown social media, Koo app as he gears up for the Hong Kong match.

Tsitsipas shocked by Colombian qualifier in US Open first round

0

Colombian qualifier Daniel Elahi Galan caused a major upset at the US Open on Tuesday, showing fourth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas the exit door with a hard-fought 6-0, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 victory against the Greek player on Tuesday.

With the help of 41 winners, the world No. 94 reached the second round at Flushing Meadows after a two hours and 48 minutes slugfest on his main draw debut at the season’s final major.

This was the 26-year-old Colombian’s biggest win of his career.

“Definitely one of the best moments of my career,” Galan was quoted as saying by atptour.com. “Definitely the best match of my career, not only because of the circumstances, also the opponent. I’m really happy.”

Galan, who did not lose a set in qualifying, won the first 11 games of the match against Tsitsipas with a superb display of aggression.

“I think he (Tsitsipas) started playing better in the third set. He served much better than the first two and I was putting the serve in the court, but not putting pressure on him. He was always in control,” Galan said.

“I think he felt really comfortable during those two sets. I tried to change a little bit the position when I was returning and that changed a lot because I was able to return (deeper) and he was not so offensive on the first ball, so I was able to do a little bit more.”

Galan had entered the match with a 0-6 record against Top-20 opponents. He had reached the third round at Wimbledon and his confidence showed against Tsitsipas. The Greek has now lost in the first round of the US Open in two of his five appearances and has never advanced to the second week. He made 57 unforced errors compared to 28 winners in his defeat, according to atptour.com.

“He dominated the match,” Tsitsipas admitted. “I just couldn’t get into it.”

Bond yield eases in early trade ahead of GDP data

0

The yield on government securities in the secondary market fell on Tuesday on value buying ahead of the scheduled release of April-June economic growth data on Wednesday.

At 1.40 p.m., the yield on 10-year benchmark 6.54 per cent-2032 bond yield was trading at 7.2046 per cent as compared to 7.2534 per cent closed on the previous trading session.

The GDP data for April-June is scheduled to be released on Wednesday. Indian markets will remain shut on Wednesday on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.

“We expect GDP to grow by 14.0 per cent- 14.5 per cent y-o-y in Q1 FY23 backed by low base and strong domestic demand. A broad based pickup was observed across consumption, services industry and investment,” said Ritika Chhabra- Economist and Quant Analyst, Prabhudas Lilladher Pvt Ltd.

The further fall in bond yields has been capped by the rise in crude oil prices in the international market.

Brent crude oil which was trading at $101.46 by the closing of market hours on Monday is now trading at $104.74.

According to various media reports, oil prices rose more than $3 a barrel due to OPEC+ output cuts and conflict in Libya helped to offset a strong US dollar and a dire outlook for the US growth.

The rise in oil prices impacts India majorly because India is a major importer of crude oil for its consumption.

Hackers exploiting LinkedIn’s chat, job posting tools to steal users’ data

0

Microsoft-owned LinkedIn is being used by hackers to spread data stealing malware via sending connection requests in disguise of people working with reputed companies, a report showed on Tuesday.

Researchers from AI cyber-security firm CloudSEK found that scammers are exploiting LinkedIn’s chat and job posting features to share links/files that are laced with stealer malware.

Since most LinkedIn users accept any and all connection requests they receive, scammers can easily make connections and build credibility on the platform.

After building credibility, the actors share malicious files and links, which are then opened by unsuspecting victims.

Once opened, a stealer malware is deployed on the victim’s system, from which it steals passwords, credit card information, and other sensitive data, and sends it to the threat actors.

“This large-scale misuse of LinkedIn could be the gravest threat yet. The underlying promise of professionalism makes it easier for scammers to run campaigns at scale,” said Rahul Sasi, CEO and Founder of CloudSEK.

This is how it works.

A LinkedIn connection reaches out to you regarding a project, from a well-known company, that might be of interest to you.

The connection shares a URL or a zip file with the information stealer embedded. The file size is usually restricted to 100MB to evade antivirus or security tools.

“Once opened, the file automatically downloads the stealer malware onto your system. It then steals passwords and cookies stored on your browser,” warned the report.

The stolen credentials are then used to compromise and take over the victim’s social media and email accounts.

“We recommend that all users verify connection requests before accepting them, even if the requester is connected to someone you know,” said Sasi.

It is also important to scan documents and files shared on LinkedIn, before opening them on your systems.

Kohli gifts autographed jersey to Pakistan’s Haris Rauf; video goes viral

0

Former India skipper Virat Kohli’s gesture of handing over an autographed jersey to Pakistan pace bowler Haris Rauf has fans appreciating the gesture, with the video of the moment posted by the Indian cricket board after the Asia Cup win over the arch-rivals going viral.

Virat can be seen interacting with the 28-year-old right-arm pace bowler following India’s five-wicket victory against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium, before the charismatic cricketer signs and gifts the jersey to the pacer.

The BCCI posted a video of the moment on social media and tweeted, “The match may be over but moments like these shine bright. A heartwarming gesture by @imVkohli as he hands over a signed jersey to Pakistan’s Haris Rauf post the #INDvPAK game.”

Thousands of fans took to twitter to appreciate Kohli’s gesture. “Wholesome moment,” tweeted a fans, while another wrote, “The things we love to see.”

“That’s why, He is King. Great cricketer and great person @imVkohli,” tweeted another fan.

Kohli, while far from being impressive in the chase of 147 in the Asia Cup opener against Pakistan, played a noteworthy knock of 35 as India defeated the rivals with just two balls to spare.

Rauf didn’t make much of an impact in the game, scoring an unbeaten 13 at the back-end and going without a wicket in his four overs, conceding 35 runs at an economy of 8.75.

The three trends were observed based on analysis of billions of tweets from January 1 2020-December 31 2021.

‘Finance Goes Social’ means that as people discuss and dive deeper into finance, related conversations have gone up by 62 per cent in India.

“Communities of experts and everyday people are joining forces to share knowledge, sparking a 185 per cent increase in financial literacy discussions,” said Twitter.

Conversations about money have evolved, and concepts like decentralised finance (DeFi and crypto) and digital assets have entered pop culture with NFT+Bollywood, Bollycoin, and Beyond Life emerging as hot topics.

In the second tred, Twitter observed that fans no longer just follow, they’re now calling the shots.

US Open: Caroline Garcia begins offevolved with a win; Maria Sakkari escapes to victory

0

No. 17 seed Caroline Garcia opened her 2022 US Open campaign with a 6-2, 6-4 scoreline over lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova while Maria Sakkari survived a scare as she advanced with a three sets victory in early women’s singles action here.

On Monday, Sakkari returned to the scene where she tore through the 2021 US Open wom’n’s draw, riding on a high of a breakthrough season that saw her crack the Top 10 for the first time in her career, determined to change the narrative. She opened her 2022 campaign with an emphatic 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 win over Tatjana Maria of Germany.

Early on, a knee-high volley from midcourt caught Rakhimova by surprise and the stance and execution on return was particularly aggressive. Sprinkle in winners off each wing and 10 successive points, and it all enabled the Frenchwoman to surge 4-0 in front.

By this point, Garcia was serving superbly with two holds to love. It took 18 minutes for Rakhimova to claim a game, but it was pure dominance from Garcia.

An ace at 5-2 was called let by umpire James Keothavong, but Garcia didn’t hear the call and celebrated posting a set lead. Back to the baseline for taking two, another well-constructed point, and Garcia secured a 6-2 advantage.

The power play, the transitioning up the court, and the net play was all on the song and the pressure finally took hold on the world No. 90. At 2-2, Garcia connected with a backhand return on the stretch, read her opponent’s reply and hooked a forehand pass for a pivotal break.

Down 15-30 in the next game, Garcia stood firm in a bruising rally, skipping forward to clip away an acute volley and fend off any danger of a potential comeback.

A confident hold closed out victory to cue the trademark “Fly with Caro” celebration.

In 2021, Sakkari had played lights-out tennis through to the semifinals, but even that was not enough to get past the teen craze that took hold of last year’s event. Just one win shy of her first major final, Sakkari’s dream run came to an abrupt halt when she fell to eventual teenage champion Emma Raducanu in straight sets, leaving her stunned and fumbling for answers as to what went wrong.

The win was big for the No. 3 seed not only to stay alive in the draw but also because, well, vengeance is sweet. The last time these two players met was earlier this summer at Wimbledon, where Sakkari fell to then-No. 103 Maria in the third round. Monday’s victory evened their scorecard to a 2-2 head-to-head record.

Maria used a variety of slice shots to take away the pace of the rallies early in the match, neutralizing Sakkari’s biggest weapon. Within the first 10 minutes of play, the German was up 4-1. But it didn’t take long for Sakkari to dial in and gain better control of her aggressive brand of tennis, as she reeled off the next five games to claim the first set, according to a report on the official website.

The second set played out identical to the first, with Maria jumping out to another 4-1 lead. This time, it was Sakkari’s service woes that handcuffed her, committing six double faults in the set and allowing Maria to take the set and force a third.

With coaching now acceptable at the US Open, Sakkari took a few tips from her coach and cruised through the final frame, holding off Maria to sweep all six games and book a spot in the second round

US Open: Unseeded Murray advances; Wolf beats Bautista Agut in first upset

0

Starting as an unseeded contender, British multiple-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray advanced to the second round at the US Open on Monday, beating No. 24-seed Francisco Cerundolo in a first clash at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The 2012 US Open and three-time Grand Slam champion advanced past his 24-year-old adversary on a warm, muggy afternoon, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4, booking his spot in the second round for the 15th time in New York.

There was another upset in the opening skirmishes at the Flushing Meadows as American J.J. Wolf stunned No. 16 seed Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain.

Leading off on Court 5, No. 87 Wolf showed Spain’s No. 16 seed Roberto Bautista Agut a quick exit at the year’s last Grand Slam with a convincing 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 triumph.

It was ten years ago that Murray became the first British man since Fred Perry to win a Grand Slam title in 76 years. On Monday, Murray admitted on the court that some of the details of his triumph might now be a bit fuzzy.

“It seems like a long time ago, a lot has happened since then in my career,” Murray said. “Amazing memories, it was a huge moment for me, getting my first Grand Slam here against Novak, but it feels like a really, really long time ago”.

Murray’s notoriously world-beating return game guided him through a scratchy first set, even after he dropped his opening service game. The 36-year-old legend would quickly rebound, securing his first two breaks of serve to take a 4-1 lead. Though he squandered the lead, allowing Cerundolo to crawl back even at 5-all, Murray was able to break in the 12th game to lock down the set, 7-5.

Murray rode his return in the second set as well, staking himself to a 5-0 lead on the strength of two more breaks, as Cerundolo lost the plot in the midday sun.

Wolf, the 23-year-old former Ohio State collegiate standout and one of eight wild card entrants, kept his poise and, with a handful of shirt changes, his cool to dispatch the veteran Spaniard in a tidy 2 hours and 13 minutes for the biggest win of his career.

“I just tried to not let my foot off the gas,” Wolf was quoted as saying on the official website.

Wolf rode a big serve-14 aces and just four break points-and solid baseline play featuring 46 winners to reverse a three-set loss to Bautista Agut in their only previous meeting earlier this year at Indian Wells.
