Makers of Nithiin’s upcoming film reveal Samuthirakani’s first look

0

‘Macherla Niyojakavargam,’ a political action drama starring Nithiin, is one of Tollywood’s most anticipated films. Things are heating up now that the film’s producers have unveiled the first look poster of star Samuthirakani from the film.

The makers, who took to their social media websites to promote ‘Macherla Niyojakavargam’, released Samuthirakani’s poster, introducing him as ‘Rajappa’.

Samuthirakani, who plays ‘Rajappa,’ wears a traditional white dhoti and has a sharp and ferocious appearance. Samuthirakani appears to be full of authority in what appears to be his working office, which contains normal stationery.

The makers also hint at the kind of role he plays as they quoted: “Unanimous MLA of Macherla Niyojakavargam”, which depicts the kind of powerful role he plays in the movie.

He looks excellent as the adversary of the political thriller, and sources claim that the face-off sequences between IAS officer Nithiin and MLA Rajappa would be entertaining to watch.

‘Macherla Niyojakavargam’ is generating a lot of buzz as a result of the big campaigns and engaging promotional material. The movie also stars Krithi Shetty and Catherine Tresa as leading females.

Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘con-medy’ ‘Goodluck Jerry’ to release on July 29

0

Actress Jahnvi Kapoor’s upcoming film ‘Goodluck Jerry’ is all set to release digitally on July 29.

Janhvi said: “GoodLuck Jerry has been an exciting experience as it gave me the opportunity to explore a completely unique genre. Siddharth has been a catalyst in truly bringing out the Jerry in me!”

“Working with Aanand L. Rai was an enriching and rewarding experience. To be a part of this film has been a dream come true.”

‘GoodLuck Jerry’ is a story of the survival of the wittiest when pushed to the wall. The film stars Janhvi as the docile yet gritty character along with a terrific ensemble including Deepak Dobriyal, Mita Vashisht, Neeraj Sood, and Sushant Singh.

The film marks Aanand L. Rai’s second association with Disney+ Hotstar, following the phenomenal success of the romantic fantasy drama ‘Atrangi Re’.

Producer Aanand L. Rai said: “In ‘GoodLuck Jerry’, we created a unique synergy out of moral dilemmas and life’s compulsions surrounding the turbulent life of a common man.”

Director Siddharth Sen added: “We have had very few female-led con-medy films. So naturally, with this film, we wanted to redefine the unusually known word, ‘con men’. Janhvi Kapoor pins the character perfectly in her portrayal of the character’s desperation to fight and protect her family.”

“The film’s pulp noir tonality presents comedy in a whole new dimension to viewers, and I hope that they like what we have in store for them.”

Gaurav Banerjee, Head – Content, Disney+ Hotstar & HSM Entertainment Network, Disney Star said: “Our subscribers really loved Atrangi Re and now Aanand is back with another film which has all his trademark strengths- amazing characters in a unique world. We hope you will wish Janhvi good luck as she takes on being Jerry!”

The film is all set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on July 29.

Kangana Ranaut unveils her Indira Gandhi look from ‘Emergency’

0

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, whose last film ‘Dhaakad’ performed miserably at the box office, unveiled her first look from the movie ‘Emergency’. The actress plays the late former prime minister, Indira Gandhi, in the film written and directed by her.

‘Emergency’, as the title suggests, is all about the state of internal emergency declared by Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975. It lasted till March 21, 1977, when the Janata Party was voted to power in a historic election.

The prosthetics, the wardrobe, and the demeanor are all reminiscent of the late prime minister. But critics were quick to point out that Kangana needs to work on the pronunciation of the word ‘Sir’.

Talking about the film, Kangana said it “reflects one of the most important periods in Indian political history which changed the way we view power and that’s why I decided to tell this story”.

She added: “Moreover, playing a public figure on the screen is always a challenge because one has to get the look, the characteristics, and the persona right. I spent a significant amount of time researching the subject and once I felt I had enough ammunition, I commenced on the film’s shoot.”

Kangana has played the late former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha in ‘Thalaivi’ and Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi in ‘Manikarnika’.

The film dialogues are by Ritesh Shah, who was previously associated with celebrated films such as ‘Kahaani’, ‘Pink’, ‘Raid’ and ‘Airlift’.

Sara, Janhvi reveal their near-death travel misadventures

0

Bollywood actresses Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor have opened up about their near-death travel misadventures in an episode of ‘Koffee With Karan’ Season 7.

Bonding over the scenic beauty of Kedarnath, Janhvi and Sara’s trip hit a roadblock as they faced two near-death experiences. When Janhvi chose a hike at Bhairavnath over walking a normal path, the duo was faced with an unexpected twist in their adventure.

Sara said: “We decided to go to Bhairavnath and there was a normal path for walking. But we thought ourselves to be better. We chose to hike instead. There was an 85 incline of just rocks and Janhvi is like let us just climb this.”

Though skeptical of climbing the incline, Sara shared that she was afraid of being called a “buzzkill”.

Admitting fear of kicking in, Sara mentioned how at one point, she was sure they would fall off owing to shaky rocks.

With no escape in sight, they found solace when they saw a fan coming toward them as they hung off the cliff.

Much to their dismay, he was of no help, as he only wanted to take a selfie with them. Eventually, Sara’s driver found them after almost 30 minutes of being stuck, and they were rescued with the help of special forces.

Adding to their woes, the weather too played foul.

Recollecting Sara’s choice of a low-cost no-heater hotel in a bid to save Rs 6000, Janhvi shared how this choice nearly froze them.

She said, “I had traveled to Kedarnath with two thermals, one puffer jacket, three shawls, two-track pants, and two sweaters. Karan, I wore every single piece of clothing I had owned and was still shivering.”

Adding that by the time, Sara returned to their room after meeting her friends, her lips had turned blue and she was shivering!

She even added that apart from the absence of a heater in the freezing minus 7 degrees Celcius weather, the bathroom in the hotel was also doubtful, “If I had sat on that pot, it would have shattered,” said Janhvi adding to her bad-hotel stay story.

‘Koffee With Karan’ Season 7 breaths of air on Disney+ Hotstar.

Vaani recalls how ‘Shamshera’ director’s narration helped her slip into the role

0

Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor is back with yet another YRF film in the form of’Shamshera’, where she has been paired opposite Ranbir Kapoor, who plays the titular character.

While for Ranbir, saying yes to the script was a “no-brainer”, Vaani was particularly bowled over by the narration that she heard from the film’s director Karan Malhotra.

‘Shamshera’ is Karan’s third film after the Hrithik Roshan-starrer ‘Agneepath’ (2012) and the 2015 release ‘Brothers’, which was the official remake of the Hollywood film ‘Warrior’.

The director has the same intensity and passion when it comes to narration and it reflects in his creative inputs that pop out during the course of narration, as told by Vaani.

Vaani said, “Karan is one director who is passionately involved in the process of narration. There are background sounds that he makes, he talks about the props, and paints a dreamy picture of a scene.”

While it may sound funny at the face value, it does help an actor to a great extent in Vaani’s opinion.

She told IANS, “This helps an actor a lot to get a grip on the narrative and the characters. Because you can envision it so well courtesy of his narration, everything comes to life and flashes in front of your eyes.”

“The narration of ‘Shamshera’ helped me to immediately pitch this character and design its dimensions accordingly. And, let me tell you, what you have seen of my character in the film’s trailer is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s a lot more to her than meets the eye,” she added.

Acting is a job that requires artists to make rapid changes to their personalities because of the varied characters they portray. While some may find it easy to jump from one character to the other, Vaani is still learning to let go of her characters.

She said, “I am still learning to fully disconnect from what I have done in the past because your characters are an extension of your personality and they stem from you. It gets difficult to detach because I hold these characters very close to my heart, having lived with them and nurtured them for so long.”

Interestingly for her, the scenes which are fairly easy to pull off are the most difficult in her own words. While doing complex scenes or sequences comes naturally to her, the simplicity of a scene is something that she gets perplexed with.

Sai Pallavi impresses reviewers with ‘Gargi’, film gets U/A certificate

0

Ever since the release of the film’s hard-hitting trailer, Sai Pallavi- starrer ‘Gargi’ has been the talk of the town. The film has now completed its censorship requirements and has been issued a U/A certificate by the Censor Board.

‘Gargi’ was shown to a significant number of members of the press earlier on Thursday, and the reviews appear to be unanimously good. As Sai Pallavi’s recent outing ‘Virata Parvam’ utterly failed at the box office, all hopes are pinned on ‘Gargi’.

‘Gargi’ is slated for a grand theatrical release on July 15 in Telugu, Tamil as well as Kannada languages.

Written and directed by Gautham Ramachandran, it has Kaali Venkat, Aishwarya Lekshmi, R.S. Shivaji, and others in key roles. Bankrolled by Blacky Genie and My Left Foot banner, the film is presented in Telugu by Rana Daggubati.

Kohli needs some ‘extra chances’, says Ashish Nehra

0

India’s star cricketer Virat Kohli is going through a long patch of poor form. Kohli, one of the finest all-format batsmen in modern day cricket, has been struggling with the bat for almost two years.

Kohli, 33 has not scored a century since November 2019, when he scored 136 against Bangladesh in Kolkata. Recently, Kohli failed to produce a big knock in the fifth Test Match against England. Kohli scored 11 and 20 runs in the two innings as England won the test by 7 wickets.

Former fast bowler Ashish Nehra now has backed Virat Kohli to get some chances due to his performances in the past.

“There will be discussions even if you’re not a player of Kohli’s caliber. When you are playing, you try to focus on your game and not listen to so-called ‘outside voices’ from people outside the dressing room. It’s important how your teammates, management, and selectors are backing you,” Nehra was quoted as saying by Sony Sports.

“But we are talking about a guy like Virat. Yes, it’s not written anywhere that he will keep playing for India even if he doesn’t score runs. But when you have done so much in the past, you will always get extra chances,” Nehra stated.

“Everybody knows his accomplishments and the talent he has. At the age of 33, fitness isn’t a problem for him. Everybody is hopeful that Virat will come good, the quicker the better. Let’s hope we see a different Virat after the West Indies series. If he rests for a month or five odd weeks, it will be helpful for him,” Nehra added.

Daniel Kaluuya not returning for ‘Black Panther 2’

British actor Daniel Kaluuya will not reprise his role in Marvel and Disney’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

According to ‘Variety’, Kaluuya played W’Kabi in ‘Black Panther (2018), the best friend and confidant of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), and the head of security for the Border Tribe.

Sources close to the project told Variety that Kaluuya was asked to return, but he had already committed to star in Jordan Peele’s upcoming horror film ‘Nope’.

Kaluuya has been nominated for Oscar for his starring role in Jordan Peele’s 2017 hit ‘Get Out’.

Production on ‘Wakanda Forever, directed by Ryan Coogler, got over in March and the film is set to release on November 11.

Following the death of Boseman in 2020, Marvel decided not to recast the role of T’Challa.

The sequel will instead explore other characters from the world of ‘Black Panther’, while also honoring the legacy left behind by Boseman.

Though it had been confirmed that stars of the original film, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett, would return, Kaluuya’s status in the second film was unclear until now.

‘Wakanda Forever’ also stars Dominique Thorne as a genius inventor, and Michaela Coel and Tenoch Huerta in undisclosed roles.

Kaluuya is currently gearing up for the release of ‘Nope’ on July 22. The sci-fi horror film stars Kaluuya alongside Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun and follows the residents of an isolated town who witness a mysterious event involving a UFO and set out to investigate it.

Spinners shine as Bangladesh clinch West Indies series in style

0

Spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nasum Ahmed combined for seven wickets as Bangladesh eased past West Indies to register a series victory in Guyana.

Bangladesh cruised to their biggest win away from home, making short work of the 109-run chase to close out the One-Day International series against the West Indies.

The clinical nine-wicket win gave the visitors an unassailable 2-0 lead with one game to play. Bangladesh has now won six of its last seven bilateral ODI series.

While this calendar year has been quite bleak for Bangladesh, their form in 50-over cricket has actually been very decent as they have now clinched three consecutive series victories.

Recent series triumphs over Afghanistan and South Africa showed Bangladesh fancy their chances against any opponent in 50-over cricket and their efforts against West Indies so far only further strengthen this argument.

White-ball 50-over matches give Bangladesh’s bevy of quality spinners the chance to shine and it was once again their slower bowlers that stood out during their crushing nine-wicket win against West Indies on Wednesday.

Despite the absence of veteran tweaker Shakib Al Hasan, spin duo Mehidy Hasan Miraz (4/29) and Nasum Ahmed (3/19) combined for seven wickets in Guyana to ensure West Indies could only muster a disappointing total of 108 after they were sent in to bat by Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal.

While pacer Mosaddek Hossain (1/37) made the initial breakthrough, it was Nasum that gave the visitors the ascendancy by dismissing Shamarh Brooks, and Shai Hope, and then picking up the key wicket of Nicholas Pooran as the hosts slumped to 45/4 after 18 overs.

There was no way back for a lackluster West Indies side, with Mehidy ripping through the tail in quick succession to leave Bangladesh chasing just 109 for the victory.

That victory target was never in doubt, with Tamim leading from the front in reply with a stylish half-century that allowed Bangladesh to cruise home with more than 29 overs to spare.

Gudakesh Motie (1/39) picked up the sole wicket for West Indies when he had Najmul Hossain Shanto caught for 20, but experienced batter Liton Das (32 not out) joined Tamim to guide the run chase home.

After disappointing performances during the Test and T20 portions of the tour, this series triumph was exactly what Bangladesh needed to provide them with some confidence ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup later this year.

Brief scores: West Indies108 in 35 overs (Keemo Paul 25 not out; Mehidy Hasan 4-29, Nasum Ahmed 3-19) lost to Bangladesh 112/1 in 20.4 overs (Tamim Iqbal 50 not out, Liton Das 32 not out) by 9 wickets.

‘Shamshera’ was perfect choice for Ranbir Kapoor, allowed him to explore as an actor

0

Its been four years since the audiences have seen Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor on screen. His last outing ‘Sanju’ the biopic of Sanjay Dutt was a super hit, and the actor is coming back to the silver screen with his upcoming film ‘Shamshera’ whereas destiny would have it, he is featuring alongside the subject of his last film Sanjay Dutt.

While the city of Mumbai soaks in the heavy downpour which is a regular affair during the monsoon season, Ranbir, sitting inside one of the stages of the conglomerate premier film studio YRF – Yash Raj Films, speaks with IANS about his upcoming film, friendly advice from his late father Rishi Kapoor and working with Sanjay Dutt in the film.

He starts the conversation by saying “First of all, I’m very happy that I will soon become a father.”

A wave of laughter runs through the staff members and other journalists waiting their turn for the interview, who by now have started rejigging their questions.

“There’s no feeling like this in the world!”, Ranbir, who has been answering the same question by different media for the whole day, finally lets his boredom out as he jests and nudges the IANS correspondent to ask meaningful questions or as he says, “kaam ki Baat (related to work).”

Somewhere ‘Shamshera’ has a sense of rebellion on Ranbir’s part whose father once told him not to do any period film because they don’t generally click with the audience.

Sharing his childhood memory, Ranbir shares, “When I was growing up my father said ‘Kabhi Bhi dhoti wali picture mat Karna (never do a period film). It’s very rare that a film like that works’. Having said that, he came from a different school of thought of that period but for me ‘Shamshera’ was a no-brainer when it came to saying yes to the script.”

For Ranbir, the film is just perfect because it has “everything”.

Furthering his point, the actor says, “It presented a great opportunity to me as an actor to reach out to a larger audience. It had a great director, producer, music, action, romance, emotion, and drama. It is a perfect film which came at a perfect time in my life.”

When he started working on ‘Shamshera’ he was fresh off the success of ‘Sanju’, was there initially a mirroring of personalities since there were two Sanjay Dutts in the room — one the man himself and second Ranbir — who portrayed him in the film.

Ranbir said, “When I started working on Shamshera Sanju sir was not cast at that time.”

He continues, “I have so much love and respect for him not just as an actor or a personality on screen but also as a human being. I was ecstatic that I was finally getting an opportunity to work with my screen hero, in a film. He is a person who has gone through so much in life.”

“And has played Kancha Cheena which definitely is one of the greatest villains of Hindi cinema”, the actor lauds his hero.

He fails to understand why there’s a certain perception about Sanjay Dutt among the masses. “There’s a certain perception about him in the minds of people, it could be created by the media or something but he is a very loving person. When Sanjay Dutt was on set the entire unit used to surround him because they wanted to be in his company.”

Prior to the release of ‘Sanju’, Ranbir had spoken during a podcast with the now-defunct comedy collective and YouTube channel AIB about his reservation to come on the medium of OTT. The resistance seems to be melting as he has now studied the post-pandemic power of OTT and its reach.

The actor shares, “I have also begun to understand the importance of a new medium and the format which is the OTT. But having said that, I really believe that I have the privilege to be a movie theatre actor to do movies that demand a big-screen experience, that privilege is something which not a lot of people have, I respect that and I am very grateful for that.”

“But, if I have an exciting offer of a series or a film comes to me, I would definitely consider it. In the last 3-4 years, I guess we all have changed since things around us were changing so rapidly and I’m no different so yeah, I will definitely like to work on OTT but haven’t been offered anything so far”, he concludes.

Young actors Finn Wolfhard, Billy Bryk to turn directors for ‘Hell of a Summer’

0

‘Stranger Things’ actor Finn Wolfhard is set to make his directorial debut along with his ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ co-actor Billy Bryk. The two will be directing the film ‘Hell of a Summer’ which is touted to be a contemporary horror-comedy based on their original script. They will also star alongside Fred Hechinger, reports Deadline.

Details about the film’s plot are being kept under wraps. But Deadline states that Hechinger will produce alongside Aggregate Films’ Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan, and Parts and Labor’s Jay Van Hoy. 30West is fully financing and exec producing the film, and co-repping worldwide rights with CAA Media Finance. Chandor’s ‘Kraven the Hunter’ alongside Russell Crowe and Ariana DeBose.

Chris Hemsworth ditched meat for ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ kissing scene with Natalie Portman

0

‘Thor’ star Chris Hemsworth briefly stopped eating meat before his kiss with Natalie Portman in the recently released superhero film ‘Thor: Love and Thunder in order to respect Natalie’s vegan diet.

The ‘Black Swan’ star made the revelation on UK’s Capital FM (via Uproxx) about Hemsworth ditching meat temporarily as the former didn’t eat meat during the day of the shoot. Meat otherwise makes up a lot of Hemsworth’s diet when he’s bulking up to play the God of Thunder.

Quoted by Variety, Portman said, “He’s really nice. The day we had a kiss scene he didn’t eat meat that morning because I’m vegan. And he eats meat like every half hour. Like, that was so thoughtful. That’s not something I’m angry about or care about, but he was just being thoughtful. He’s just a very nice person.”

Her Thor: Love and Thunder co-star Tessa Thompson added: “I didn’t even know he could go without eating meat. He’s just like eating bison in the morning. That’s so sweet.”

According to Variety, Hemsworth taking a meat break isn’t the only fun titbit Portman has revealed on her global Thor: Love and Thunder press tour. The actor told Entertainment Weekly that she filmed one of the movie’s most visually striking scenes in the parking lot of a Best Buy.

Quoted by Variety, she said, “There’s one scene that’s one of the most visually beautiful scenes I’ve seen on film, and we shot (it) in real life in a Best Buy parking lot. It’s so wild to be in this size of the movie, and we were literally in a parking lot with a blue screen, doing this really dramatic thing. It looks so stunning on film, but every time I see it, I’m like, ‘That’s a Best Buy parking lot’.”

Story of ‘Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi’ was a surprise for director Ayesha Sood

0

Filmmaker Ayesha Sood, who is awaiting the release of her upcoming docu-series ‘Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi, revealed that although she is an enthusiast of the crime-thriller genre and has been a resident of Delhi all her life where the crime rate is quite high, she didn’t come across anything like the source material of the series.

The series traces the story of a notorious serial killer who ruthlessly dismembered his victims and scattered their body parts around the city. Scary, unnerving yet compelling, the series attempts to painstakingly explain the sequence of events that led up to his arrest based on the investigation and coverage of serial killings in the Indian capital.

Elaborating on what went through her mind when she was approached by VICE India (the producers of the series), Ayesha said, “When the Vice India team approached me with the idea of developing The Indian Predator’, I was truly intrigued because even though I consider myself to be a true-crime nut, and have been a Delhi resident all my life, I had never heard of this story.”

She continued, “On researching this case I realized that this is indeed an important story to tell. Our intent with this series was to give the viewers a ringside view to the journey of one of the scariest serial killers in Indian crime.”

However, while working on the series, the filmmaker had to face several challenges during the course of making it. The most difficult part was to call the people and nudge them to talk about the trauma that they went through during the documentation and research.

Shedding light on the same, Ayesha mentioned, “As is the case with any true-crime documentary, Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi’ also had many layers and threads that kept unraveling through the interviews and conversations. It was tough to get everyone to come on record because of the tragic nature of the crimes and most people are wary of documentation or keeping a photographic record of their lives.”

“So, we had to be doubly mindful with our research and ensure that all aspects of the case are being accurately corroborated. Not to mention, there were physical difficulties also at play – whoever has shot post or during the pandemic knows how the health and security teams have to go all out to make sure the crew and our characters felt safe”, the filmmaker added.

Talking about what it was like to shoot in the thick of the pandemic, Ayesha said, “We had stringent Covid protocols in place – safe and controlled zones, disinfection stations, and color codes to mark crew as per their working zones and technical equipment. Then as we neared the end of 2020, we were hit by one of the most severe winters the North has witnessed in recent times.”

“While shooting in Bihar and Delhi with call times at 3/4 a.m. – hot chai was never appreciated more by our incredible tireless crew. So, yes we were really up against a lot of odds while creating the series but I believe we have created something that is truly worth it all”, she concluded.

Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi’ will drop on Netflix on July 20.

He also left a note for the former Team India captain after the two met after a six-year gap, indicating that the two referred to each other as ‘Chiru’, a reference to Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi.

The film stars Janhvi as the docile yet gritty character along with a terrific ensemble including Deepak Dobriyal, Mita Vashisht, Neeraj Sood, and Sushant Singh.

Janhvi helms the role of Jerry, an ordinary girl from a small town in India, it was important to grasp the dialect for this role of the town she represented.

Commenting on her diction for the film, Janhvi said: “I trained extensively for the Bihari dialect. We had a few coaches namely Ganesh Sir & Mr. Vinod. We attended a workshop and listened to all those songs, he even made me do an exercise wherein he would make me say Bihari abuses as a part of the training.”

“The whole process was a lot of fun eventually. I am so thankful about getting to know the syntax of that section of our country.”

Directed by Siddharth Sen and produced by Aanand L. Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions, Lyca Productions, and Mahaveer Jain, the film will release on July 29 on Disney+ Hotstar.
