George Lucas let ‘Star Wars’ actors choose how they pronounced names

0

‘Star Wars’ legend Mark Hamill has revealed that creator George Lucas ‘didn’t care how the names in the sci-fi epic were pronounced’ and let the cast say them however they wanted.

Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill has been attempting to solve the debate over some of the sci-fi franchise’s pronunciations in a Twitter question-and-answer session with fans and he’s said there’s actually no right or wrong way to say any of the characters’ names featured in the films, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

In a post on Twitter, Hamill explained: “FYI: When we would ask George: ‘Is it Chew-bah-ka or Chew-back-a?’ / ‘Is it Lay-a or Lee-a?’ / ‘Is it Hahn or Han (as in hand)?’- he would just shrug and didn’t really care. He told us it would be pronounced in various ways in different parts of the galaxy.#TrueStory.”

Other pronunciation mysteries Mark attempted to solve included the AT-AT – the four-legged battle walker used by the Empire – even posting a poll from the official ‘Star Wars’ account which revealed fans were split but the pronunciation was the same.

He added: “I think it’s ‘AT-AT’ (using the keyboard at symbols), even though I always called them ‘walkers’.”

Dave Filoni, who has worked on numerous ‘Star Wars projects as a writer, director, and producer for Lucasfilm over the years, previously echoed the sentiment.

Speaking at a fan event back in 2020, he explained: “You can say at-at, you can say A-T-A-T, and you can say, walker. I’m for all three. That’s canon because in(‘The Clone Wars’) I have imperials say walkers, I have them say at-at, and I have them say A-T-A-T.”

Ryan Gosling rules out starring as Marvel’s Nova

0

Hollywood star Ryan Gosling’s name was brought up as a possible strong contender to play Marvel’s Nova, who is said to be getting a live-action movie.

However, the actor has apparently shut down the speculation. In an interview with ‘Happy Sad Confused’ host Josh Horowitz, the 41-year-old actor ruled out the possibility of him playing a member of the Nova Corps, though he revealed his interest in playing another superhero, reports aceshowbiz.com.

“Ryan and I chatted about the Nova rumors yesterday which he said aren’t true,” Horowitz shared on Twitter.

“BUT this morning Ryan reached out to me to say there is one superhero he wants to play…GHOST RIDER.”

Rumors emerged earlier this week that Marvel Studio is developing a Nova project, though details were scarce.

Later, it was reported that the project will take the form of a limited series on Disney+, akin to ‘Moon Knight’. Further fuelling the speculation that the project would be brought to life as a series is a fact that ‘Moon Knight’ writer Sabir Pirzada is attached to the Nova project.

Gosling is currently busy filming ‘Barbie’, a live-action adaptation of the Mattel toy line. The ‘Blade Runner 2049’ star portrays Ken in the film, which is directed by Greta Gerwig and based on a screenplay written by herself and Noah Baumbach.

He stars opposite Margot Robbie, who plays the titular character.

Plot details remain scarce, but the actress has said that the film’s goal was to subvert expectations.

“… we like the things that feel a little left of center. Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted,’ ” she told The Hollywood Reporter in April.

She added: “Now, can we truly honor the IP and the fan base and also surprise people? Because if we can do all that and provoke a thoughtful conversation, then we’re really firing on all cylinders.”

Extortion, blackmail: Puducherry Police begins crackdown on 69 loan apps

0

The cyber police in Puducherry have registered a case against 69 loan apps following complaints of extortion, threats, and blackmailing by these fintech apps.

The Cyber cell officials told IANS that a case has been registered under Section 66(A), 67, and 67(A) of the Information Technology Act and 420 of the IPC against these financial apps that are available in the google play store.

The police, according to officials, have already sent emails to the app platforms to delink these apps from their platforms. According to the sleuths, the Puducherry Union Territory has received more than 45 complaints against the loan apps in the past six months.

These apps are attractive to housewives, students, and people with low-income jobs who have difficulties in getting bank loans as they require several proceedings.

An engineering student, who had to pay Rs 70,000 after he took a loan of Rs 10,000 told IANS, “The loan apps are threatening me that they would morph my photographs into sexual postures and circulate them among my family and friends. They are asking for Rs 12,000 more which I cannot provide.”

He said that the loan apps have already taken the details of his PAN card, Aadhaar card as well as the details of his bank accounts and these people are able to access his phone address book.

Several women have fallen prey to these loan apps and even after a single default, the morphed photographs of these women were sent to their husbands. An officer with the Cyber cell police, while speaking to IANS, said, “In many cases, the police had to intervene and speak to the families of the affected women to make them believe.”

The major hurdle faced by the investigating team is the presence of the servers hosting these apps in foreign countries. However, officials of the Puducherry cyber cell told IANS that they are on the job and will crack it and bring relief to the people who have faced extortion, threats, and blackmailing by these app providers and their agents.

Officials of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) which manages the affairs of the Yatra said that so far over 1.28 lakh pilgrims have performed the Yatra, which was suspended for two days because of a flash flood near the cave shrine last Friday.

At least 16 people were killed in the flash flood while 15,000 were safely evacuated.

“Yatra has since been resumed from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Today another batch of 6,415 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar base camp for the Valley in two escorted convoys.

“Of these, 2428 are going to Baltal while 3,987 are going to Pahalgam,” officials said.

Yatris use either the shorter Baltal route or the longer traditional Pahalgam route to reach the cave shrine situated at 3888 meters above sea level in Kashmir Himalayas.

Those using the Baltal route have to trek 14 km to reach the cave shrine and they return to the base camp the same day after having Darshan.

Those using the traditional Pahalgam route have to trek 48 km to reach the cave shrine.

Helicopter services are available for pilgrims on both routes.

‘Pushpa’ fame Sukumar behind Ram Pothineni’s chain-smoking

0

Ram Pothineni, who is now promoting his next film ‘The Warrior, recalls becoming a chain smoker only for the sake of playing a role in one of his films.

“I was 18 when I shot ‘Jagadam’. While filming, I had to smoke a lot of cigarettes. I had never smoked before in my life,” Ram Pothineni said in one of his interviews.

0

Screenwriter and author Jon Spaihts, who has famously penned the scripts for the 2016 superhero film ‘Doctor Strange and Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi movie ‘Dune’ is heavily impressed with Indian filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s epic period drama ‘RRR’, which stars Telugu superstars Ram Charan and Jr NTR in lead roles along with Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt.

Jon took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the film. Showering praise, he tweeted with the film’s still: “Holy hell, RRR. Has any movie ever packed more movies into a movie? What a ride. Still thinking about it a couple of days later (sic).”

The movie team has shared the same with the world through their social media handle. Not just Jon Spaihts, but several known Hollywood celebs have been lauding the film for its content, ever since it started streaming on Netflix.

Earlier in June, Doctor Strange screenwriter C. Robert Cargill watched the movie and shared his review on Twitter. Sharing his reaction to the period drama, Cargill wrote: “Friends came over last night to initiate me into the cult of RRR (Rise, Roar, Revolt) and I’m here to report I am now fully, truly, deeply a member.”

He also described RRR as “the craziest, most sincere, weirdest blockbuster I’ve ever seen.” Cargill added that he was quite certain that he was going to watch the movie once again with his partner.

RRR opened in theatres worldwide on March 25 this year. It is set in colonial India and narrates a fictional story of two freedom fighters, Komaram Bheem, a tribal rebel leader played by Jr NTR, and Alluri Sitarama Raju played by Ram, who infiltrates the British police forces for a coveted mission.

Shivaleeka Oberoi: An inside-out transformation was a must for ‘Khuda Haafiz 2’

0

Actress Shivaleeka Oberoi, who is currently riding high on the response to the film ‘Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2 Agni Pariksha’, has shared that the first installment of the film was based on a real incident and also inspired by Ramayan, while the second part is about what unfolds after a happy ending.

For revisiting the role of someone who has been through a living nightmare, Shivaleeka spared no effort to pull off an inside-out transformation. She conveys that the transformation was a must for the Faruk Kabir directorial.

Shivaleeka says, “Essaying Nargis has been enriching for me as an actor. People say fear is in the head, but if you live the life of a woman and walk in the shoes of the women you know, you’ll realize that fear is very real.”

“In this chapter, Nargis is shaken and traumatized because of the turmoil she overcame in the first chapter. Her husband loves her to death but she can’t move past what has happened.”

She adds, “An inside-out transformation was a must for this role. From going sans makeup to getting into the headspace of someone stuck in the mayhem of emotions, I gave this role whatever I had.

“I think this is the kind of film every man should watch to gain perspective of what women go through in their lives.”

Zee Studios, Cinergy, and Panorama Studios present a Panorama Studios production – ‘Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2 Agni Pariksha’, written and directed by Faruk Kabir, produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, Sneha Bimal Parekh, Ram Mirchandani, with music by Mithoon & Vishal Mishra, co-produced by Sanjeev Joshi, Aditya Chowksey, Hasnain Husaini & Santosh Shah, and starring Vidyut Jammwal and Shivaleeka Oberoi.

A Panorama Studios and Action Hero Films pan-India release, ‘Khuda Hafiz 2’ is running successfully in cinemas currently.

Until now, the film had been referred to as #Suriya 41. The film has raised a lot of expectations as Suriya and director Bala is working together after a gap of almost 18 years.

One of Tollywood’s top heroines, Krithi Shetty, is playing the female lead opposite Suriya in this film. She plays Suriya’s romantic interest for the first time. Actress Namitha will make her debut as the second female lead.

Pawan Kalyan’s classic title considered by Akhil Akkineni

0

Classic Pawan Kalyan film titles appear to be in high demand. According to recent speculations, Akhil Akkineni may take the title ‘Thammudu’ for his next film.

Varun Tej, Pawan Kalyan’s nephew, used the title ‘Tholiprema’ a while back, and Vijay Deverakonda has secured the title ‘Kushi’ for his next project with Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Now, it appears that the Akkineni ‘Agent’ would be the next to work on Pawan Kalyan’s old film title.

After his ambitious movie with Allu Arjun failed to take flight due to varied reasons, ‘Vakeel Saab’ director Venu Sreeram shifted his focus to Akhil Akkineni. Committed to making films for Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations, for now, Venu Sreeram has apparently got the nod of Akhil Akkineni for his next.

“Venu is toying with the idea of naming his next film with Akhil Akkineni ‘Thammudu'”, an online source stated. Aside from the title, sources reveal little about Venu Sreeram’s film being linked to Pawan Kalyan’s classic film ‘Thammudu’ (1999).

The source goes on to add that Akhil Akkineni-Venu Sreeram’s film will mostly move to floors after the actor begins his immediate next, which is mostly with a noted Tamil filmmaker.

For now, Akhil Akkineni awaits the release of his highly-anticipated movie ‘Agent’.

Ram Gopal Varma announces contest to promote ‘Ladki’

0

Director Ram Gopal Varma has announced a contest to promote the release of his upcoming action thriller, ‘Ladki’.

Taking to Instagram, the director said, “Dare to take the ‘Ladki’ contest? If anyone answers the question ‘Who is Pooja Bhalekar ?’ in the form of a meme, a pic, a short video, a word, a sentence, or anything else they can think of, the 20 best selected (entries) will get a signed copy of her photo from Pooja herself addressing the winner by his or her name.

“The contestants can do this either on Twitter or Instagram and Pooja herself will select the best.”

The director then went on to give some possible answers for his followers to get an idea of the responses that were expected.

He said, “Given below are some possible answers just for you to get an idea… 1. Who is Pooja Bhalekar? She is a rapist’s nightmare; 2. Who is Pooja Bhalekar? Everyone’s fantasy; 3. Who is Pooja Bhalekar? Bruce Lee’s spiritual daughter.”

‘Ladki’, produced by Arts Media Production in association with Indo/Chinese Co-Production is being claimed as India’s first-ever movie based on martial arts.

The movie featuring a female protagonist as the titular character is getting released in Tamil as ‘Ponnu’.

Martial Arts champion Pooja Bhalekar plays the protagonist in this film, scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release shortly.

Speaking at the press meet, director Ram Gopal Varma said, “This movie is very challenging and close to my heart. Bruce Lee has been my favorite personality since my college days. I have never missed watching his movies. The Indian movie industry didn’t manage to make a full-length martial arts-based movie, which instilled in me, the urge to make them after I embarked on my directorial venture.

“However, my plans got delayed for years for one reason or the other. I thought of having a female protagonist and making this martial arts-based movie. Then began my long search that finally ended with Pooja Bhalekar. I showcased the compiled video of her talents to a leading firm in China, and they were enthralled watching it. Both of us decided to produce this movie together. The movie got delayed due to the pandemic issues.

“We wanted to release this movie in multiple languages at the same time. When Bruce Lee’s ‘Enter The Dragon’ was released, I didn’t have money to buy tickets to a particular theatre. I am in awe of the fact that my movie is getting released in the very same theatre now.”

Taapsee’s ‘marvel’lous dream: She wants to play an Avenger

0

From ‘Soorma’, ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ to ‘Rashmi Rocket’, Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu has some incredible sports films to her credit and now she is all set for another one, ‘Shabaash Mithu’, a biopic on Mithali Raj, former captain of women’s cricket team. Mithali Raj is among the highest run-scorers in women’s international cricket and Taapsee says it was never easy for her to portray a living legend on screen.

Taapsee was in the Capital for the promotion of her movie, ‘Shabaash Mithu’ along with Mithali Raj and director Srijit Mukherji.

She told IANS about how she prepped up physically and mentally to depict Mithali and the kind of roles she is looking forward to playing.

“It was the biggest challenge and especially for someone who has not played cricket ever before to portray a living legend like a her-the first woman whose name comes to mind when you talk about women’s cricket.

“And this is also true that if this role was not so challenging I would not have been motivated to give my best. Apart from that, to perform as a character, we both are very different as individuals. So, the challenge was not limited to just the cricketing field, it was also beyond, impersonating in a way. I am not someone who’s very good at mimicry.”

“When I have to portray someone who’s not really like me I will not try to mimic her. I’ll try to embody her and make a version of myself like give a part of myself into that character. Instead of trying to just superficially mimic someone. So that also takes a little bit of effort mentally to change yourself to portray someone who is so different from you,” she added.

Taapsee, furthermore asserted that she was extra careful because this movie is not only based on cricket which is loved by the entire country but it comes under more scrutiny as the story revolves around a woman cricketer and that makes the topic more sensitive and needs to be handled with care. Moreover, the actress said ‘yes’ to the movie even before its script was ready.

“When this opportunity came to me I thought about what could be better than this. It seemed like this role was written for me. It was full of challenges. Firstly because this movie revolves around cricket which is most loved in our country and second because it is based on the life of a woman cricketer. Wherever women have involved that lens with which people will look at you will be double precise.”

“They will be observed with a double microscope like how she is holding the bat, how she hit the ball. So, the level of commitment needed was double. And we all had given that. I have put all my effort into portraying a cricketer and the same goes for the director and producer. It is teamwork,” shared the ‘Pink’ actress.

For depicting the life of a sports personality there is a lot of physical training that is required and Taapsee said that she was fortunate as she was prepared to play a professional cricketer by not just one but four coaches including Mithali Raj’s friend Nooshin Al Khadeer for the biopic.

She revealed: “I was trained by four coaches, not just one. All of them have played with her and were friends with her, especially Nooshin. They had the responsibility, the herculean task to turn a non-cricketer into Mithali Raj. I think we should praise them for courageously accepting this challenge without even knowing me. On the first day, I didn’t even know how to lift a bag. I came for practice the second day to begin again. ”

“It was beneficial to learn from Nooshin not only because she is a cricketer and has played with her (Mithali) for a long time but also because she is a very close friend of Mithali. So, this helps me not just learn cricket the ‘Mithali way’, but to also know Mithali beyond the pitch. Due to the fact that she was busy at the time, it was extremely difficult for me to conduct research work. In fact, I didn’t even have any videos of her. Before, it was also really difficult to find her interviews.”

“The ones that were found were from around 2012-2013. There weren’t any interviews prior to that period. I had no footage. Therefore, Nooshin was a window for me to know Mithali, not just as a cricketer, but also as a person beyond the ground.”

Recalling her first meeting with Mithali, Taapsee reminisced: “I was getting butterflies in my stomach. Because I always admire sports stars. I have this little fangirl moment whenever I see any sports star who’s represented India because since childhood I used to watch sports more than movies. I am fond of them so much because there is no second take for them like we get in movies. So, when I met Mithali I talked a lot, in fact, more than her. Now at certain times, I feel if I would have let her speak, maybe I would have understood the character in a much better way.”

Taapsee had a lot of memories from the sets of her movies and she enjoyed every bit of it. The way she played cricket and prepared herself will always be with her. At last, she talked about her wish and concluded with: “I want to play an avenger and please tell Marvel they can do something about it.”
