Over 7,100 pilgrims leave for Amarnath cave shrine from base camp

Amarnath Yatra, which was resumed on Monday after a two-day suspension following a flash flood near the cave shrine, continued on Tuesday as another batch of 7,107 pilgrims moved from Jammu base camp towards the Valley.

A Flash flood near the cave shrine on Friday killed 16 people and injured 37 while 15,000 were rescued.

Reports that 40 pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh are missing have been denied by the Andhra Pradesh government saying that only two pilgrims from that state are still missing while all others are safe.

Officials said Yatra was resumed on Monday from Pahalgam base camp while it was not resumed from Baltal base camp because the 14 km long north Kashmir trek is damaged at three places.

“Helicopter services for the Yatris continued from both the base camps to the cave shrine,” officials said.

Another batch of 7,107 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu in two escorted convoys for the Valley on Tuesday.

“Of these, 5,158 are going to Pahalgam while 1949 are going to Baltal,” officials said.

Over 1,20,000 pilgrims have so far had Darshan inside the holy cave shrine.

The 43-day long Amarnath Yatra 2022 started on June 30 and will end on August 11 on Shravan Purnima coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival.

63 killed in rain-related incidents in Gujarat since June 1

As many as 63 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Gujarat since June 1, of these maximum 33 died due to lightning strikes.

At least eight were killed due to wall collapses, drownings (16), falls of trees (5), and power pole collapse (1), the state Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Rajendra Trivedi said on Monday.

A total of 10,674 citizens from Anand, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Kutch, Porbandar, Chhotaudepur, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Narmada, and Vadodara districts were relocated by the administration; out of which 6,853 have returned home while approximately 3,821 are at the shelter homes provided by the government.

Addressing a press conference, Trivedi said that a red alert has been issued for heavy rains in Bharuch, Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, and Valsad districts in the state. A total of 18 teams of NDRF and SDRF are deployed for rescue operations in the rain-hit districts.

Stating that the administration is fully equipped to deal with the rainfall situation in the state, he said that the Chief Minister is constantly reviewing the rainfall situation.

Adequate food and water facilities are being provided to affected residents by the administration. An estimated 508 civilians have so far been successfully rescued from five districts amid heavy rainfall.

A total of 25 houses and 11 huts have been damaged since June 1, the minister said, adding that an estimated 272 cattle have died in the state so far.

Notably, more than nine districts in Gujarat have been witnessing heavy rains for the last 48 hours, affecting almost everyone from these districts. Many people have lost their homes and belongings.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to take stock of the situation in the state. The Prime Minister has assured all necessary help, including the NDRF deployment in the rain-affected regions of the state.

Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar, during discussions with officials of Bharuch, Tapi, Narmada, Surat, Valsad, Dang, and Chhotaudepur districts, has instructed officials to carry out relief operations with an approach of zero casualties.

Health Minister and Minister in charge of Ahmedabad Hrishikesh Patel visited various places in Ahmedabad and assessed the situation.

The 75-day ‘Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar’ campaign harps on behavioral change in order to drive home the concept of cleanliness and focuses on three underlying goals for effective coastal cleanliness, it was announced on Monday.

Across India’s 7,500 km coastline, plastic litter is a major threat to the marine environment and a growing problem as multiple studies have established the harmful impacts on marine biodiversity, ecosystems, and human health.

Beach clean-up activities would be undertaken across all coastal states and a timetable has been drawn for the 75-day campaign that started on July 3 and shall culminate with coastal clean-up activities at least at 75 beaches/places.

Terming ‘Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar’ as a first-of-its-kind coastal cleanliness campaign that will continue not just up to September 17, the International Coastal Cleanup Day, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), M. Ravichandran refuted that this is yet another cosmetic effort and said, “This is a 75-day citizen-led campaign for improving ocean health through behavioral change. But we will not leave it just after this event. After September 17, we would continue work with the communities and leave it to the community only when it understands the importance.”

The campaign is a joint exercise by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, National Service Scheme, Indian Coast Guard, National Disaster Management Authority, Seema Jagran Manch, Sustainable Sanitation Alliance, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi, a recently formed body under the RSS patronage, along with multiple other local social and educational organizations.

Since November 2019, Virat Kohli hasn’t scored a century in international cricket and has been in a lean patch across all formats. Now, legendary all-rounder and 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev feels that when ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin can be dropped, then Kohli could be dropped as well from the Indian team.

With players like Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer in the mix, it is getting tougher for Kohli to own a place in the playing eleven, especially with the Men’s T20 World Cup happening in Australia in October-November.

“Now the situation is such that you might be forced to bench Kohli from the T20 playing XI. He will have to perform better. If world No. 2 bowler Ashwin can be dropped from the Test side, then (the) world No. 1 batter can also be dropped.

“Virat Kohli has still a lot of ability and talent. You hope such a player comes back (into the form). It’s not as if you completely leave him out. If he isn’t performing now, it’s fine (to leave him out). Youngsters are playing well. But the day Virat scores runs, can you keep him out? If you can keep Ashwin out, you can keep anyone out,” said Kapil to ABP News.

Talking further about Kohli’s poor form and the rising competition from young cricketers, Kapil remarked, “At the moment, Virat is not batting at a level which we have seen him do over the years. He has made a legendary name for himself because of his performances. But if he isn’t performing, you can’t continue to keep these boys (young players) out.

“I hope there is a healthy fight for selection; the youngsters should look to outperform Virat Kohli. But Kohli needs to think, ‘yes, at one point I was a big player, but I need to play like that No. 1 player again’. That’s a problem for the team which is not a bad one.”

Kapil didn’t like the fact that Indian players were being rested constantly and wanted clear reasoning behind giving players rest. “You can call it rest and someone else will call it dropped, it depends on what a human being thinks. Every person will have his own view. Obviously, if selectors don’t pick him (Kohli), then it could be because a big player isn’t performing and youngsters are doing that.”

Wrestler Bajrang gets visa to travel to the US for training

India’s Olympic Games bronze-medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia has got his visa to travel to the United States to train ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2022.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports was assisted by the cooperative attitude of the Ministry of External Affairs and the British High Commission, who helped Bajrang obtain his UK visa, said the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in a statement on Saturday.

Bajrang as well as wrestler Deepak Punia will leave for the US on July 10. They will train at Michigan University until July 30, following which both will leave for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The Union Sports Ministry’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) has facilitated the exposure trip.

“The training stint in the US will be helpful for preparing for the Commonwealth Games and upcoming major competitions like the Wrestling World Championship, scheduled for September in Belgrade,” said SAI.

Bajrang is also the winner of the Commonwealth Games gold and silver medals. He also won gold in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.

The Sports Ministry has earlier also been assisted with the cooperative attitude of the MEA and the British High Commission in seeking priority visas for international exposure trips taken by athletes and support staff in other sports.

PM to lay foundation stone for development projects worth over 16,000 cr in Deoghar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Deoghar and Patna to launch developmental projects worth more than Rs 16,000 crore in Deoghar on Tuesday.

He will also perform a pooja at Baba Baidyanath temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.

Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to address the closing ceremony of the Centenary celebrations of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in Patna at 6 p.m.

As a key step to provide direct connectivity to Baba Baidyanath Dham, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Deoghar Airport which has been constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 400 crore. The Terminal Building of the airport is equipped to handle over five lakh passengers annually.

During his visit, the Prime Minister is expected to dedicate to the nation the In-Patient Department (IPD) and Operation Theatre services at AIIMS, Deoghar.

, will get a further boost as the components of project “Development of Baidyanath Dham, Deoghar” sanctioned under the PRASAD Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism will get inaugurated. The projects being inaugurated include the development of two large pilgrimage congregation halls with a capacity of 2000 pilgrims each; Jalsar lake front development; Shivganga Pond development among others.

Also, he will inaugurate the six-laning of Gorhar to Barwada section of NH-2; widening of Rajganj-Chas up to the West Bengal border section of NH-32 among others. The major projects whose foundation stones are being laid include four laning of Mirzachowki- Farakka section of NH-80; four laning of Hariharganj to Parwa More section of NH-98; four laning of Palma to Gumla section of NH-23; Elevated corridor of Kutchery Chowk to Piska More section of NH-75 among others.

Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various energy infrastructure projects around Rs 3000 crore for the region and dedicate two Railway projects viz. Godda-Hansdiha Electrified Section and Garhwa-Mahuria Doubling Project to the nation.

Later in the evening, Prime Minister Modi will address the closing ceremony of the centenary celebrations of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and inaugurate Shatabdi Smriti Stambh which has been built to commemorate 100 years of Bihar Vidhan Sabha. He will also lay the foundation stone of the Vidhan Sabha museum.

The dialogue ‘Teri Maa Ka Mukut’ mouthed by Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt in the ‘Shamshera’ trailer has been trending for some time. But, the incorporation of the dialogue was an impromptu decision to add on shoot day as revealed by the film’s director Karan Malhotra.

Elaborating on the same, Karan said: “I had never imagined the dialogue ‘Teri Maa Ka Mukut’ would become such a craze. From the day the trailer was released, the dialogue has been trending. I still remember the day we were shooting the scene with Sanjay sir, it was an impromptu decision to add this dialogue at that moment.”

“Sanjay Sir looked so mischievous, keeping his arm around that officer, I whispered in his ears. I said sir, when you look at him, say Queen crown and repeat in Hindi, ‘Teri Maa Ka muktuk. He laughed at that point and said the line with such brilliance.

“The moment I said cut, he walked up to me and said, ‘Karan, remember this dialogue is going to kill it, everyone is going to master this dialogue, it’s going to be a superhit’, I remember Sanjay Sir saying this to me and that’s exactly what’s happening.”

Adding onto that, Sanjay shared that the “most famous lines in movies are all impromptu”.

The actor, who plays Shuddh Singh, said: “This is something that I have always believed in. Of course, the original English line was there on paper. But when we were on set shooting, between Karan and I, we knew how we were seeing it play out. We did exactly that took it and had fun with it.

“There’s irreverence in it and it’s such a mischievous line, but Shuddh Singh says it with a certain candor. I am glad people are loving the line and there’s so much more of this in the film.”

‘Shamshera’ produced by Aditya Chopra under the YRF banner will open in theatres on July 22 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

The fourth film of the superhero series ‘Captain America’ is set to roll the camera under the wings of director Julius Onah, who is known for his work on ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ and ‘Luce’.

The movie, which will star Anthony Mackie, will build on the events from the 2021 OTT series, ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, reports ‘Variety’.

That show’s creator and head writer, Malcolm Spellman, is writing the screenplay with Dalan Musson, a staff writer on the series. As per ‘Variety’, on the show, Mackie’s Sam Wilson struggles to accept the mantle of Captain America that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) gave him at the end of 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ ultimately learning to accept the title and the cultural weight that comes with it.

‘Variety’ further states that the film does not yet have an official title or release date, but expectations are high that Marvel Studios could announce both later this month at San Diego Comic-Con, where the studio will be presenting for the first time since 2019 after SDCC was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

It’s also unclear who else from ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier, including Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier), Wyatt Russell’s John Walker (aka US Agent), Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter (aka Power Broker), or Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, would be joining Mackie in the film.

The timing of the announcement gave the impression that the unit was looking for a way to put an end to speculation regarding Vikram’s health even after Suryanarayanan’s official clarification.

Director Ajay Gnanmuthu tweeted: “The grand audio launch of ‘Cobra’ on July 11 at the Phoenix Market City, Chennai, in the PRESENCE OF CHIYAAN VIKRAM. See you all there.”

A section of the media had reported on Friday that Vikram had been hospitalized at the Kauvery Hospital and that he had suffered a heart attack. Vikram’s manager clarified that the actor only had mild chest discomfort and was being treated for the same.

The manager had also gone on to clarify that Vikram was fine and that he was likely to be discharged from the hospital in a day. His clarification was backed by a statement issued by Kauvery Hospitals later in the night.

The teaser of the thriller film ‘Chup’ was unveiled by ‘Cheeni Kam’ director and ad-man R Balki on Saturday on the occasion of filmmaker and actor Guru Dutt’s birth anniversary.

The teaser is an ode to Guru Dutt, who received a barrage of criticism for his iconic film ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’.

The film stars Sunny Deol, Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan, ‘Scam: 1992’ star Shreya Dhanwanthary and Pooja Bhatt, who made a comeback with ‘Bombay Begums’.

The movie is directed by R Balki and produced by Gauri Shinde, Hope Filmmakers, and Pen Studios.

The teaser opens with Dulquer’s character making art of our newspaper cuttings and gifting a bouquet of paper-cut flowers to Shreya’s character before the premise spirals into a dark web of thrill and mystery, and speaks about the revenge of an artiste.

Commenting on the occasion of the teaser release, R Balki, said in a statement, “Guru Dutt’s ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ is one of the many films that is seen as iconic today but was strongly criticized when it was released. Should we be more sensitive to an artist’s work or should the artists be less sensitive about what is being written about their work?”

For Balki, who has written the original story for the film, ‘Chup’ is his debut in the genre of blood and kills. A thriller of global significance, the movie is being conceptually touted as the first of its kind in the world.

The screenplay and dialogues have been co-written by R Balki, critic-turned-writer Raja Sen, and Rishi Virmani.

The film is presented by Dr. Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios with worldwide distribution by Pen Marudhar.

The director of photography is Vishal Sinha and Amit Trivedi composed the music.
