Disney faces heat for ruining a couple’s marriage proposal moment

0

Los Angeles, June 6 Problems don’t seem to cease for entertainment giant Disney. After being stripped off of its self-governing status in Florida, the corporation is under fire once again a video showing a Disneyland Paris theme park marriage proposal being interrupted, went viral.

The video is drawing fierce online criticism for ruining a couple’s special moment, reports Deadline’.

According to ‘Newsweek’, the video, which was initially posted to Reddit and has now gone viral, has been upvoted 85,000 times.

The man proposing marriage to his girlfriend reportedly asked permission from a park employee before mounting a platform in front of Cinderella’s Castle to pop the question.

As he dropped to his knee holding a ring box, a male employee runs into the scene, darted between the couple, and grabs the ring box.

He then gets off the platform and gestures to the couple to complete their ceremony off the platform.

A Disney spokesperson told ‘Newsweek’: “We regret how this was handled. We have apologized to the couple involved and offered to make it right.”

In 2018, a man sued the company for interrupting his proposal at Orlando’s Disney World. The lawsuit also accused an employee of physical harassment.

Ratan Tata-backed BlueStone launches four new stores in Delhi NCR

0

New Delhi, June 6 India’s leading omni-channel fine jewellery destination and business stalwart Ratan Tata-backed BlueStone on Monday announced the launch of four retail outlets in Delhi-NCR, taking the total count of their stores in the region to 18.

The newly opened outlets are located at some of the most prominent locations and malls of the city — East of Kailash, Kamla Nagar, Gaur City Mall and Ambience Mall.

The company, which was established back in 2011, has been seeing an interesting cross-channel behaviour where a typical user browses their website for at least 2-3 weeks before visiting a store, it said in a statement.

Further, it said that 60-70 per cent of the customers tend to shortlist a product first on the website before visiting an exclusive brand store which completes the shopping experience by enabling try-on and checkout.

“For every one customer who was buying online on BlueStone, surveys revealed that there were 20 others who loved the designs but would require the comfort of a store to make a purchase. Therefore, by having these experiential stores, BlueStone expects to provide its customers with a truly omni-channel experience,” the statement said.

All the four new stores house an exclusive collection of 450+ designs individually, handpicked by the merchandise teams across categories such as necklaces, pendants, rings, earrings, bangles, and solitaires, as well as jewellery for men and kids. The jewellery comes with the highest level of certification — hallmarked with HUID from BIS approved labs, IGI, GIA and GSL certifications as well — for gold and diamonds to create their exquisite designs with in-house craftsmanship.

“Jewellery has been an integral part of Indian culture for millennia. The vast geographical landscape of Delhi-NCR has distinct groups of people endorsing distinct styles of jewellery, for fashion as well as cultural significance. Our existing stores in Delhi-NCR are extremely loved, which gave us the confidence to launch 4 more stores in a short span. With these launches, we now have a total of 84 stores spread across the country, giving a strong impetus to our omni-channel retail model which is revolutionizing jewellery buying,” said Sudeep Nagar, Chief Operating Officer of BlueStone.

Root reveals his relationship with Test captaincy had become ‘very unhealthy’

0

London, June 6 In his first Test since resigning as the England skipper in April this year, Joe Root made a stunning 115 not out to help England hunt down 277 and seal a five-wicket victory over New Zealand at Lord’s. Root’s phenomenal century, his 26th in the format which also took him to the 10,000 Test runs club meant that England began their summer of 2022 on a winning note.

But after the match, Root revealed his relationship with Test captaincy, especially after England had won just one out of their last 17 matches under him, including a 4-0 Ashes defeat and 1-0 loss to West Indies, had become “very unhealthy”.

“I was unaware of how much it was grabbing hold of me. It had become a very unhealthy relationship, between the captaincy and me. It had started to take a bad toll on my own personal health. I couldn’t leave it at the ground anymore, it was coming home, it was not fair on my family, people close to me or myself either,” said Root to reporters after the match.

After the 1-0 loss to West Indies, Root had claimed that he still had it in him to lead the Test side. But in April, Root stepped down from the captaincy role, admitting that it had taken a toll on him. Now, after taking England to victory over New Zealand, Root explained how stepping down from the leadership role was liberating.

“As soon as I made the decision (to step down) I knew it was the right thing to do. I felt like a big weight had been lifted. As hard as it was, obviously, it’s been a huge privilege and something that I’m extremely proud to have done, but it’s time for a new phase in my career. And it’s one that I’m very much looking forward to, seeing one of my best mates (Ben Stokes) now take this team forward and start in a way that he has.”

With England now 1-0 up in the three-match series, Root wants to again gain the feeling of winning a Test match when taking the field against New Zealand on June 10. “This (winning a Test match) is a very nice feeling. It’s felt like a long time. But it’s one that you want to feel over and over again. So, again, having experienced that this week, it’s one that we want to make sure that, when we turn up to Trent Bridge, we’re on the right side of it again, and can feel it again.”

Nadal reveals struggles with a foot injury, says he can play only after he’s numbed his nerves

0

Paris, June 6 Spanish tennis stalwart Rafael Nadal has revealed how excruciatingly painful it has been for him to play his best tennis over the past fortnight, given his foot condition and the fact that he had to periodically take injections to soothe the nerves of his injured limb.

Nadal defeated Casper Ruud of Norway 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in the Roland Garros final on Sunday evening to clinch his 14th title on the clay-court major and earn a record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title, which puts him two ahead of Swiss ace Roger Federer and Serbia’s world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Nadal has been nursing a foot injury for a very long time, which flares up occasionally and has caused him to miss several tournaments in the last couple of years. Speaking about the condition of his foot post-match, the Spaniard who turned 36 on June 3, said, “I didn’t want to talk about the foot during the tournament. I said I’m going to speak after the tournament, and now I can speak because I wanted to focus on my tennis and respect my rivals… I was able to play during these two weeks in extreme conditions.

“I have been playing with injections on the nerves to sleep the foot, and that’s why I was able to play during these two weeks. Because I have no feelings on my foot because my doctor was able to put anesthetic injections on the nerves. That takes out the feeling on my foot. But at the same time, it’s a big risk in terms of fewer feelings, a little bit bigger risk of turning your ankle… So of course Roland Garros is Roland Garros. Everybody knows how much it means to me this tournament, so I wanted to keep trying and to give myself a chance here,” Nadal was quoted as saying by atptour.com.

Following his win over Ruud, Nadal revealed his triumph in Paris was one of the most emotional.

“For me having this trophy next to me again means everything. (It) has been (an) emotional victory, without a doubt. Unexpected in some ways. (I am) very happy,” Nadal said in his post-match press conference. “(It) has been a great two weeks. I played from the beginning, improving every day. Finishing (by) playing a good final. (I am) super happy and can’t thank everybody enough for the support since the first day that I arrived here. (It is) very emotional.”

Nadal, who now holds a 112-3 record at the clay-court major, struggled with a chronic foot injury in his defeat to Denis Shapovalov of Canada in Rome three weeks ago.

However, he was not to be denied at Roland Garros, moving past the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, Novak Djokovic, and Germany’s Alexander Zverev en route to a maiden clash with Ruud.

Nadal admitted that while the situation is unclear, he is aiming to find a solution to his foot injury ahead of Wimbledon, which begins on June 27.

“I don’t know how to say in English exactly the treatment, but (I am) going to have a radio frequency injection on the nerve and try to burn a little bit the nerve and create the impact that I have now on the nerve for a long period of time,” Nadal said.

“That’s what we are going to try. If that works, I (am) going to keep going. If that doesn’t work, then (it is) going (to) be another story.”

Labuschagne aims to take a leaf out of Root’s methods for success in Sri Lanka

0

London, June 6 Australia’s top-order batter Marnus Labuschagne is aiming to take a leaf out of England batter Joe Root’s methods of playing against spin to fetch success in Sri Lanka, where a tough spin challenge awaits him. Labuschagne will join Australia for ODI and Test series in Sri Lanka after making 11 appearances for Glamorgan in the County Championship and T20 Blast.

Root, the latest entrant to 10,000 runs club in Test cricket, had a phenomenal time in Sri Lanka at the start of 2021, amassing scores of 228 and 186 in the first innings of the matches at Galle, setting up England’s 2-0 series win.

Though Labuschagne featured in Australia’s tour of Pakistan in March 2022, the spin challenge wasn’t daunting enough to test the right-handed batter, who is aware that playing against Sri Lankan spinners will be a different ball game.

“For me, it’s my first real sub-continent challenge against spin, it’s about conquering that challenge. (England’s) Joe Root played phenomenally over there, I’ve learned a lot from how he went about his game there,” said Labuschagne to BBC Sport Wales.

“As a team, we want to be the best in the world, it doesn’t matter where you take us, we want to be winning games and I certainly think we can do that in Sri Lanka. I’ll have to get used to conditions, the heat, and sweating it out, which is something we haven’t had the last few games (in the UK).”

Though he is leaving the UK for Australia duty, Labuschagne has expressed his wish for another stint with Glamorgan ahead of Ashes next year. But with a hectic period of international cricket coming for Australia and wife Rebekah expected to give birth to their first child, it remains to be seen how Labuschagne can squeeze out time to turn out for Glamorgan in 2023.

It was through 1,114 runs scored for Glamorgan in the 2019 County Championship that Labuschagne got into Australia’s Ashes squad and fetched success with the bat as a concussion replacement for Steve Smith in Lord’s Test.

“I love playing for the club and I certainly want to continue to play for Glamorgan, but we’ll have to see how everything pans out. There are a lot of things in the mix, but I can’t see anything wrong with trying to copy the last time I played in the Ashes here and play some county cricket with Glamorgan (going) into the Ashes next summer.

“That’s our blueprint but we’ve got so much cricket this year, around 16 Tests and 18 one-day games, so we’re going to have to make sure I’m fit and healthy and also get to spend time at home with my wife and child at some stage,” concluded Labuschagne.

Tendulkar’s all-time Test record of most runs within Root’s reach, says Mark Taylor

0

London, June 6 Former Australia skipper Mark Taylor has tipped England’s charismatic cricketer Joe Root to surpass Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most runs in Test match history.

Root, who handed over England’s Test captaincy reins to all-rounder Ben Stokes to concentrate on his batting, scored a fine unbeaten century to guide the home team to a five-wicket win against the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand at Lord’s on Sunday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

In guiding England to a morale-boosting win, Root surpassed the 10,000-run mark to become just the 14th cricketer to score 10,000 Test runs. Root has a total of 10,015 Test runs and is 5,906 behind Tendulkar, who notched up 15,921 in a career spanning 200 Tests.

Australian legend Taylor felt that at 31, Root has many more years of Test cricket left in him, adding that Tendulkar’s record was “very achievable”.

“Root has a minimum of five years left in him, so I think Tendulkar’s record is very achievable,” opined Taylor on Sky Sports.

“Root is batting as well as I have ever seen him bat over the last 18 months to two years. He is in the prime of his career, so there is 15,000 runs-plus for him if he stays healthy,” added Taylor.

England great Alastair Cook was also all praise for the former Test skipper, saying on BBC Test Match Special, “I just love (Root’s) batting.”

The root is only the second cricketer from his country to have reached 10,000 Test runs after Cook, who quit international cricket in 2018, having scored 12,472 runs.

Between Friday and Sunday, it earned $1.06 million.

Korean title, ‘The Red Herring’ continued its progress in fourth place with a $307,000 weekend and a two-weekend cumulative of $2.08 million.

Chinese animation ‘Agent Backkom: King’s Bear’ landed in eighth with $51,800 over five days.

‘CSK’s Mukesh Choudhary is one of the best with the new ball’

0

Chennai Super Kings left-arm pace bowler Mukesh Choudhary has been singled out as one of the “best” with the new ball, with cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra saying that the 25-year-old has been carefully groomed by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the death overs.

Four-time IPL champions CSK’s campaign this season may have got derailed but Choudhary emerged as their stand-out bowler, taking 16 wickets in 13 games with a best of 4/46 in his debut season.

Heaping praise on Choudhary, Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “If anyone bowls the best with the new ball, I feel it is Mukesh Choudhary. We saw him bowling at the death also where he used the natural angle of taking it across, which all left-armers do. Captain Dhoni slowly-slowly got him to bowl at the death as well.

“This is captain Dhoni’s plan — he first gets you to bowl more with the new ball and then prepares you slowly, then finishes you in the 14th or 15th over and then gives you the 19th or 20th over as well. He stood out in every challenge,” added Chopra.

Chopra also felt that Choudhary has the ability to bowl consistently.

“He used to go around as a net bowler earlier but this time, he didn’t let (CSK) feel the absence of Deepak Chahar. He has taken wickets with the new ball in the powerplay and he has the amazing ability to bring the new ball in. He bowls at the one spot consistently.

“When you bowl with a high arm and from close to the stumps, the ball moves just before pitching. The later the ball swings, the more difficult it is for you to bat and he showed that by doing it. He consistently used that angle well. That is how he got the likes of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma out,” added Chopra.

In the 16th minute, Poland scored the second goal through a challenge hit which was converted by their Captain Jacek Kurowski.

It was a hard-fought win for the pair of Swapnil and Ashi. In the first qualification stage, they finished fourth with a combined score of 881/900 to qualify for stage two. The Ukranian pair finished second to also march into the top-eight stage.

In stage two, Swapnil and Ashy finished second with an effort of 583/600. It was the same score as the Ukranians but the latter topped on countback, going into the gold-medal match with a mental edge over the Indians.

In the final, Ukraine started stronger and opened up a 6-2 lead after the first four single-shot series. But the Indian pair fought back admirably, winning six of the next eight series to go ahead 14-10.

Serhiy and Daria were not ones to give up and narrowed the deficit down to 14-12. But the Indians closed out professionally for a well-earned victory.

This was India’s second ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Cup of the year. They had topped the first World Cup staged in Cairo. The rifle and pistol teams then opted out of the Rio World Cup in April.

New Delhi, June 4 Revenue CAGRs of Manchester United (MANU), Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund have been at 1.1 percent, 4.7 percent, and 4.0 percent, in the past seven years, with a TTM price-to-sales of 2.4x, 1.7x and 1.1x, respectively. Conversely, IPL teams’ revenue CAGR has been more than 10 percent in the past seven years, commanding a much higher valuation than football counterparts, mainly due to higher revenue growth and stellar viewership, Elara Securities said in a report.

IPL’s title sponsorship is currently held by the Tata Group and has posted a 19.3 percent CAGR in the past 15 years to reach Rs 5.62 bn per year. Historically, IPL sponsors have been companies from different verticals, bidding for the much-coveted sporting league. Right from traditional companies (DLF, Pepsi), modern-day smartphone (Vivo) players, and gaming fantasy companies (Dream 11) to large Indian conglomerates (TATA group), the IPL Title has had a varied sponsorship run. Clearly, IPL’s muscle in the Indian sports ecosystem and its ability to generate viewership/revenues are peerless, the report said.

Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad posted revenue CAGRs within 11-14 percent in the past seven years, much higher than global peers. Such revenues should grow further due to value increment in media rights. As per an analysis of revenue/operating expense break-down of Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, media rights revenue comprises a huge chunk of overall revenues and plus 40 percent of the operating expenses emanate from team players/staff remuneration.

While speaking about the emotions that Lata’s songs spark in him, Arijit shared “She is like Rabindranath Tagore. How he wrote everything and he wrote on every emotion no matter what book you pick up there is something that you find relatable. Lataji’s songs are like that only, no matter any song you pick up, you will always find something that you can relate to, she has sung songs in every emotion you can think of. It’s a blessing we have her”.

“There is a lot you can learn from her songs. The spirituality that she has carried in her singing with utmost passion till the end, is truly a big learning. She used to sing complex songs with such ease that it is amazing. When you listen to the song it seems like it’s such an easy song but when you try singing it then you realize how difficult it is. She never presented herself as a great singer, she always sang like a commoner. Technically there is a lot you can learn from her”.
