As Rahul arrives in Telangana, Kavitha poses questions

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K. Kavitha on Friday asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi how many times he raised the issues of Telangana in Parliament.

With Rahul Gandhi set to arrive in Hyderabad later in the day on a two-day visit to the state, Kavitha took to Twitter to pose some questions to him.

“As Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji arrives in Telangana today, I sincerely request him to introspect on the following. How many times have you raised the issues of Telangana in Parliament,” she asked.

Kavitha, who is the daughter of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, also wanted to know why was the Congress party silent while the TRS party was fighting with the Union government over the uniform paddy procurement policy, national status for irrigation projects, discrimination in establishing educational institutions, releasing of pending GSTs and grants, etc.

Kavitha, a member of the Telangana Legislative Council, also told Rahul that Telangana has shown the path of comprehensive development to the nation, by introducing various schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bheema, Kalyan Lakshmi, Aarogya Lakshmi, Aasara and many more that ‘continue to benefit our people every day.’

“As many as 11 states are emulating KCR schemes, you are welcome to learn and understand from our state as well,” she added.

Mamata Banerjee has not rectified herself even in her 3rd term as CM: Amit Shah

In his first visit to West Bengal after the 2021 Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a scathing attack against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, claiming that the latter has not rectified herself even after becoming the CM for the third consecutive term.

“Mamata Banerjee has become the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the third consecutive term. But even after that, she has not rectified herself. The people of West Bengal are yet to get relief from corruption, violence, and attacks on women.

“The Chief Minister has pushed West Bengal into a debt trap… I am telling the Chief Minister to rectify herself. Other people know how to rectify the moods of powerful persons,” Shah said while addressing a public rally at the Railway Institute Ground in Siliguri in North Bengal.

He also ridiculed the Trinamool Congress leadership for sending fact-finding teams to Jahangirpuri in Delhi and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

“Mamata Banerjee is sending delegations everywhere in the country. But so many people were charred to death at Bogtui in Birbhum district. At Hanskhali in Nadia district, a minor was gang-raped. Why didn’t she send delegations there,” Shah asked?

The Home Minister also attacked Banerjee for the latter’s comment that she would never allow the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in West Bengal.

“Some people are saying that CAA will never be implemented in West Bengal. But I want to assure you that CAA will be implemented for sure once the Covid-19 situation is totally under control. CAA still has relevance and the Chief Minister cannot do anything to stop it from getting implemented,” Shah said.

Reacting to Shah’s comments, Banerjee asked how fresh citizenship can be given to those people who are already citizens of the country.

“These are all ploys to create division among the people on the basis of religion,” she said.

Addressing the rally in Siliguri, Shah also accused the Chief Minister of neglecting North Bengal.

“The current state government has done nothing for North Bengal, which is the gateway to Northeast India,” Shah said.

Reacting to that, Banerjee said that it has always been the ploy of the BJP to separate North Bengal from West Bengal.

“They always speak of separation instead of unity. The Home Minister better concentrates on what is happening in the BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh,” Banerjee said.

IPL 2022: “I just can’t bat with you. You run too fast”, Maxwell makes hilarious complaint to Kohli on run-out

0

After getting involved in a run-out with former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli during their IPL 2022 game against Chennai Super Kings, the star batter Glenn Maxwell has made a hilarious complaint to his batting partner that he just can’t bat with him as he runs too fast.

The batting pair of Kohli and Maxwell has been involved in two run-outs in the ongoing IPL 2022 season. On both occasions, Kohli had called for a quick single, which proved harmful for him and his partner.

On Wednesday, in the ninth over of the match against Chennai Super Kings, Kohli tapped the ball in front of square on the offside and set off with his head down for a tight run. Maxwell, hesitant in his initial few steps, failed to make the crease and walked back disappointed having played just three balls in which he made three runs.

Earlier on April 16, in their clash against Delhi Capitals, Kohli had similarly set off for a single, having dropped the ball to short point. Maxwell, having noted Lalit Yadav was closing in swiftly at point, refused his partner’s call, which forced Kohli to turn back, but he was beaten by a direct hit.

“I just can’t bat with you. You run too fast. You run too fast. And you get ones and twos, and I don’t,” Maxwell told Kohli during the debriefing session in the dressing room after the team’s 13-run win over CSK, a video of which was put on the Royal Challengers’ website on Thursday.

As per ESPNcricinfo, Kohli has been involved 40 times in run-outs in T20s, of which he has been out on 15 occasions.

Notably, Kohli and Maxwell pace their innings in different ways. The Australian batter scores 62.04 percent of his runs through boundaries in T20 cricket as compared to Kohli’s 54.3 percent. Of the 74 batters who’ve scored 5000-plus T20 runs, Maxwell ranks 22nd in terms of runs scored through boundaries, while Kohli ranks 58th.

However, overall both Kohli and Maxwell are among the safest runners between wickets in T20 cricket. While Kohli is involved in a run-out every 120 runs he runs, Maxwell’s involvement is once every 138 runs. Among 30 batters with 3000-plus all-run runs, Maxwell ranks fourth, and Kohli is seventh.

IPL 2022: Royal Challengers Bangalore snap three-match losing streak, beat Chennai by 13 runs

0

Harshal Patel and Glenn Maxwell divided five wickets among themselves as Royal Challengers Bangalore snapped their three-match long string of failures to beat reigning champs Chennai Super Kings by 13 runs at MCA Stadium on Wednesday.

After Mahipal Lomror (42) and Dinesh Karthik (26 not out) hit convenient thumps to take Royal Challengers Bangalore to 173/8, Bangalore’s bowling assault, drove by Patel, Maxwell and Josh Hazlewood took on the speed off approach effectively in limiting Chennai to 160/8 in their 20 overs.

The outcome implies that Bangalore is currently at the fourth spot in the focuses table while Chennai was passed on to mourn their failure to expand on a wicketless strategic maneuver and Devon Conway getting a fine 56 as the other hitters neglected to remain at the wrinkle for long on a two-paced pitch.

The left-given Conway had a splendid beginning, drawing out the regular as well as a converse range for taking two fours out Shahbaz Ahmed in the opening over. With Hazlewood keeping him and Ruturaj Gaikwad calm because of his perfect lengths, the two broke a four each off Mohammed Siraj.

Gaikwad then, at that point, went to hammer Siraj for progressive fours followed by him and Conway hitting a six each off Wanindu Hasaranga over profound mid-wicket as Chennai completed a strategic maneuver at 51/0. Soon after the show of dominance, Ahmed conveyed the leap forward as Gaikwad pulled off backfoot yet tracked down jumping long-on hurrying to one side.

Robin Uthappa made only one run prior to cutting directly to in reverse point on a short ball from Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell picked his second wicket of the night as he shook Ambati Rayudu’s stumps while attempting to punch.

Conway kept on being at his best, moving down the pitch and flicking Hasaranga for a six-over profound mid-wicket. With Moeen Ali taking limits off Maxwell and Harshal Patel, Conway punched the last option past an outstretched additional cover and followed it with a solitary through mid-wicket to arrive at his second back-to-back fifty out of 33 balls.

The breadth kept on getting runs for Conway as he trudges cleared hard off Maxwell and was nearly gotten at profound square leg before the ball went for four. In any case, in the following over, the scope brought his defeat, giving a basic catch to profound in reverse square leg off Hasaranga.

From that point, more slow balls continued to get scalps for Bangalore as Ravindra Jadeja miscued the trudge off Harshal Patel and was gotten by the cover. Patel had his second wicket of the night when he took out Moeen Ali with a wide more slow ball hit freely to additional cover, soon after he was smacked over profound mid-wicket for six.

Chennai’s expectations of MS Dhoni pulling off another chivalrous pursue finished when he pulled directly to profound mid-wicket off Hazlewood in the nineteenth over. Notwithstanding Dwaine Pretorius hitting a four and six preceding turning into Patel’s third casualty and Maheesh Theekshana taking six more, Bangalore had to the point of beating Chennai.

Prior, spinners Maheesh Theekshana and Moeen Ali accepted five wickets between themselves as Bangalore heaved and puffed their approach to 173/8. They were looking consistent so far as Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli hit eight limits between themselves to be at 51/0 in the initial five overs.

Yet, in the following five overs, Bangalore got through a twist incurred log jam, beginning from Theekshana surrendering just six runs from the last over of the powerplay.

Du Plessis attempted to crush Ali over the large leg-side limit in the eighth over yet pulled directly to profound mid-wicket. An absence of correspondence among Kohli and Maxwell brought about the last option being run out while taking a fast single.

Ali returned to create an ideal off-spinner excusal, welcoming Kohli to go for a far-reaching drive yet inspired one to divert in from outside off to hit the stumps. Bangalore’s main three falling with hardly a pause in between implied that they slipped from being 62/0 to 79/3 at the midway imprint.

From that point, Lomror and Rajat Patidar created two fours and a huge number over the leg-side off Ali and Theekshana for a valuable 44-run association off 32 balls before Pretorius got the previous out with Mukesh Choudhary running in to take a fine catch at profound square leg. Lomror kept on hitting limits, with a level compass off Pretorius going for a level six over profound mid-wicket being the champion.

Be that as it may, Theekshana brought Chennai back in the match as he had Lomror and Hasaranga got on the two sides of the ‘v’ on progressive wads of the nineteenth over. He then, at that point, polished off the over by thumping Ahmed’s stumps with a carrom ball.

Dinesh Karthik, in the wake of enduring a lbw audit off Pretorius, took 16 off the last over off Pretorius, including two sixes over profound mid-wicket and long-on, to take Bangalore’s score past the 170-mark.

Brief Scores:

Royal Challengers Bangalore 173/8 out of 20 overs (Mahipal Lomror 42, Faf du Plessis 38; Maheesh Theekshana 3/27, Moeen Ali 2/28) beat Chennai Super Kings 160/8 of every 20 overs (Devon Conway 56, Moeen Ali 34; Harshal Patel 3/35, Glenn Maxwell 2/22) by 13 runs.

IPL 2022: I feel there’s a big score round the corner, says RCB’s Glenn Maxwell

0

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s big-hitting batter Glenn Maxwell believes that a big score from his bat is just around the corner in IPL 2022. Compared to his good run last year, Maxwell hasn’t found the same groove in the ongoing tournament, making just 157 runs in seven matches at an average of 26.17 but has a high strike-rate of 178.40, including a fifty.

“It has been probably a bit indifferent (on his form). I feel like I have been hitting the ball well, I feel there’s a big score around the corner. It has been a hard couple of games for us but we still have a great vibe around the group, if we can get a little bit of a run towards the finals (playoffs) then we can make an impact this season,” said Maxwell to broadcasters Star Sports in a pre-match chat.

Asked about what has been a contributing factor in Bangalore’s three-match losing streak, Maxwell remarked, “It is a bunch of things (that haven’t gone right), we were a bit unlucky in the last game, we were an inch away from having Tewatia out and it would have been a different game. Just the little things like that can have a big effect on a T20 game.”

“We still feel like we are in a really good space and bring the same energy to today and be on the positive side of the result. Every game in the IPL there’s a lot of energy, the crowd going nuts and it is always exciting, but this being the Southern Derby we are all looking forward to having a good contest.”

Pacer Mohammed Siraj, on the other hand, wants to do well in the match against Chennai in a season where he picked just eight wickets in ten matches at an economy rate of 9.39. “My performance hasn’t yet been as the team and I would have liked. The goal is to do better in the powerplay.”

“When we played there the last time, the pitch was helpful and it wasn’t easy for the batters to hit. We will focus on each of our goals and the results will follow once we do that. My role is to deliver in the powerplay and at the death and I want to be consistent at doing that.”

Adult dialogues in Mahesh Babu’s ‘SVP’ trailer spark debate

While the trailer, as a whole ups the ante, an adult dialogue, an innuendo, and a couple of double-meaning dialogues didn’t sit well with the Telugu audience.

Toward the end of the trailer, Mahesh Babu says something that not only sexualizes the context but also means something that doesn’t fit the native Telugu barrier.

“It’s like a bridegroom taking 100 Viagra pills and waiting for the first night, you guys knocked on his door at the right time”, the dialogue means, which could be considered an adult one. Mahesh says this dialogue is to show that he has been desperate to finish off the rowdies, which sexualizes the entire situation.

In another scene, Mahesh’s innuendo during a serious situation has also sparked debate. While some viewers have no complaints about the hero’s dialogues, the majority of others did not expect this from Mahesh, who has always maintained dignity, even in his films.

‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ directed by Parasuram Petla will hit the screens on May 12.

Champions League: Liverpool boss Klopp reveals what he wanted to read in newspapers the next morning

0

Liverpool’s German manager Jurgen Klopp has disclosed that he had told his boys ahead of the UEFA Champions League semifinal return leg against Villarreal at the El Madrigal stadium that the next morning he wanted the newspaper headlines to read like “The mentality monsters were in town”.

After winning the semifinal home leg 2-0 last week, Liverpool traveled to Spain for the return leg, defeating the hosts 3-2 to enter the UEFA Champions League final on 5-2 aggregate.

The 54-year-old Klopp said that reaching the final was an outstanding achievement and a very special occasion as the rivals were fighting really hard to negate the advantage of the first leg.

“Outstanding, massive, it feels like it’s the first (entry into the Champions League final), to be honest because it is always so special. It is, for me, the best club competition in the world. I love it, love the sound, everything, love the nights. It’s incredible, what (Villarreal manager) Unai (Emery) is doing is incredible, how the players put us under pressure, everything is great. So it feels so special because it was so difficult for us, but in the end, we deserved it as well and that’s really cool,” said Klopp on liverpoolfc.com.

Klopp has now led the club to three Champions League finals in five seasons and his side is the first in history to reach the final of the UEFA Champions League, the Emirates FA Cup, and Carabao Cup in the same campaign.

“It (win over Villarreal) was massive, massive from the boys. Before the game, I told the boys that I would like to read the headlines that ‘The mentality monsters were in town’ just because I wanted us from the first moment not like somebody that defends the result but goes for the three points or for the win. I couldn’t see that (happening initially) but the second half was like this (what I wanted)… coming back as we came back in the second half was really special. The first half (disappointment) can happen but reacting like we reacted (in the second half) made it really special,” he added.

Villarreal took the lead in the third minute and added a second in the closing minutes of the opening half to negate Liverpool’s first-leg advantage, much to the dismay of Klopp. But goals from Sadio Fabinho (62nd min), Luis Diaz (67th), and Sadio Mane (74th) helped the English giants win 5-2 on aggregate and secure passage into the UCL final.

Klopp detailed the tactical changes made at half-time that enabled Liverpool to win.

“The start was obviously really difficult for us to take; we were obviously impressed by that. We had no real build-up; we didn’t play in the right spaces. All of a sudden we just kicked long balls and tried to force it. We had, kind of, dangers, but never enough to get a little bit of momentum. So we just explained to the boys where we have to play, what we have to do, where we have to be stronger, and where we have to move smarter because obviously in the first half we didn’t move enough.

“We couldn’t find the midfielders in the half-space because they were not there; the front three were too fixed: Sadio left, Mo (Salah) right, and Diogo in the centre. There was no flexibility so we had to mix that up definitely, to cause them more problems. Because of their (Villarreal) very man-orientated defending we played in their hands and that’s what we had to change.”

Meta-owned photo-sharing platform Instagram is experimenting with full-screen vertical home feeds.

In a video posted on micro-blogging site Twitter, Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed the test and said that taller photos and videos would begin appearing in some feeds.

“We are testing a new, immersive viewing experience in the main Home feed. If you are in the test, check it out and let me know what you think,” Mosseri captioned the video on the micro-blogging platform.

According to media reports, users can still use the bottom navigation bar to access the discovery tab, Reels, shopping, and their own page in the test of the full-screen home feed.

Meanwhile, last month, the photo-sharing platform confirmed that it is exploring a new feature that lets users pin specific posts to their profile above their photo grid.

The new feature is currently in the testing phase and is showing up for select users on the platform. Users who have access to the feature are seeing a “Pin to your profile” option that they can select from the three-dot menu next to posts.

The ability to pin a specific post to a user’s profile could be a welcome feature for users who want to highlight their favorite posts that may have been buried somewhere further down in their photo grid.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the safe evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol of Ukraine.

“I am pleased that more than 100 civilians have successfully been evacuated from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, in an operation successfully coordinated by the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross,” the top UN official was quoted as saying.

“I hope the continued coordination with Kiev and Moscow will lead to more humanitarian pauses that will allow civilians safe passage away from the fighting and aid to reach people where the needs are greatest,” Guterres said.

Both the Russian and Ukrainian militaries said on Monday that more than 100 people had been evacuated from the besieged city of Mariupol in Ukraine, news reports said.
