As ‘Acharya’ bombs, Chiranjeevi fans demand introspection

Featuring megastar Chiranjeevi and his son Ram Charan in the lead roles, Koratala Siva’s directorial ‘Acharya’ hit the screens on April 29 but it turned out to be one of the biggest debacles for the megastar.

With the film ‘Acharya’ proving to be a flop, Chiranjeevi must be wondering how the audience will react to his upcoming movies Bholaa Shankar’ and ‘Godfather.’

Both the movies being the remakes from other languages, (‘Bholaa Shankar is a remake of ‘Vedalam’, a Tamil movie and ‘Godfather’ is an adaptation of ‘Lucifer’ a Malayalam hit movie) the megastar’s fans are not sure, how these might turn out to be.

The audience wants to see new content, not the same old tropes and characters, which Chiranjeevi fails to grasp.

Fans strongly disagree with the megastar’s choices, as they do not want any more flops at this time.

“I wish Chiru starts introspection and drops off unwanted projects”, one of his online fans wrote.

“Making remakes even after witnessing such a big disaster will only put him in deeper failures, which will have zero recovery chances”, another person on Twitter commented.

Chiranjeevi will also be seen in ‘Waltair Veerayya’ which will be directed by Bobby.

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s expectations have been dashed by the failure of ‘Acharya.’ So, if he wants to make a good comeback, the ‘Indra’ actor must take extra precautions with his upcoming films.

IPL 2022: RCB captain Faf du Plessis hails Virat Kohli’s knock

0

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis was happy to see his predecessor and key batter Virat Kohli hit some sort of form but pointed out their inability to add 10-15 more runs to their total as the reason for their six-wicket defeat to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 on Saturday.

Electing to bat in what was their first-afternoon match in this edition of the IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore rode on half-centuries by Kohli (58) and Rajat Patidar (52) and their 99-run partnership for the second wicket to reach 117/2 at the end of the 15th over. With Kohli still in the middle, Royal Challengers were hoping to reach a 180-plus score. But Gujarat Titans bowled well to restrict them to 170/6.

Chasing 171 for victory, Gujarat with the help of an unbeaten 79-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Rahul Tewatia (43*) and David Miller (39*), reached 174/4 for a comfortable six-wicket win.

“It was a huge step in the right direction to get a solid 50. You want one of your top 4 to get the 70s in the future, so it’s good,” du Plessis said of Kohli’s knock.

However, he rued that the other batters could not capitalize on the base built by Kohli and Patidar.

“We tried to get 175-180. They bowled well in the middle and kept us down. We started well with the ball but they played under pressure really well as they are in the tournament,” du Plessis said after the match.

Reaching 170 was quite morale-boosting for Royal Challengers as they had batted very poorly in their previous two matches — bundled out for 68 by Sunrisers Hyderabad and for 115 by Rajasthan Royals.

“After two bad performances with the bat, coming back was good. But the bowlers being taken down by good batting took it their way,” said du Plessis.

IPL 2022: Tewatia, Miller guide Gujarat Titans to 6-wicket win over Royal Challengers

0

Fine rearguard knocks by Rahul Tewatia and David Miller, who shared an unbeaten partnership of 79 runs for the fifth wicket, helped Gujarat Titans beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in Match 43 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium here on Saturday.

Tewatia scored an unbeaten 42 while Miller remained not out with 39 as Gujarat came back strongly to score 174/4 in 19.3 overs after restricting Royal Challengers Bangalore to 170/6 in their 20 overs.

Electing to bat first on a scorching hot day in their first-afternoon match, Royal Challengers rode on half-centuries by Virat Kohli (58) and Rajit Patidar (52) to reach a modest total.

Gujarat at one time looked in trouble after losing Wriddhiman Saha, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and Sai Sudharshan with 95 runs on the board.

But Tewatia and Miller ensured that they did not lose any further wickets and romped to a six-wicket for their eighth win in nine matches. Gujarat thus moved to 16 points from nine matches and extended their lead at the top of the standings to four points.

RCB remained at the fifth position, with 10 points from 10 games.

Gujarat Titans ended the power-play with 46 runs for no loss on the board with Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill keeping up a decent scoring rate.

Saha, who struck Mohammed Siraj for two fours in an over, was the first to get out, caught by Rajat Patidar off a wrong-un bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga with the score 51.

Gill was the next to go, given lbw off Shahbaz Ahmed, missing the ball completely. He reviews the decision but the video replays show no involvement of the bat.

Skipper Hardik Pandya also had an off day as he tried to whip away a full-length delivery by Shahbaz but could offer only the bottom edge and sent it straight down the throat of Mahipal Lamror. And when Sai Sudarshan too departed after getting a start, caught by substitute Anuj Rawat (20), who was keeping wickets in place of Dinesh Karthik who was ill, it looked like Gujarat was slipping into a deep gorge.

However, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia came to the rescue of Gujarat Titans as they raised a superb unbeaten 79-run partnership for the fifth wicket and guided the team from Ahmedabad home with six wickets in hand.

Miller struck Hasaranga for a four followed by a six in the 15th over and cracked a brilliant cover drive off a cutter on good length by Harshal Patel.

Tewatia too had started cautiously before exploding into action towards the end of the innings. He hammered a six and a four on successive balls off Josh Hazlewood in the 18th over — the six a superb flick over fine-leg — and ended the over with another four, placing the ball between two fielders around a deep square leg boundary.

Tewatia, who struck Harshal Patel over extra cover for a superb six, ended the match with fours off Hazlewood in the 20th over. Their unbeaten partnership of 79 runs came off 40 balls and propelled Gujarat Titans to their eighth victory in nine matches.

Kohli, former India, and Royal Challengers captain who was advised by former team India coach Ravi Shastri to take a break from IPL to revitalize his batting, gave glimpses of a welcome return to form as he struck a fine half-century and raised 99 runs for the second wicket partnership with Rajat Patidar, who struck 52 off 32 deliveries as the two set up a good platform for RCB.

Brief scores:

Royal Challengers Bangalore 170/6 in 20 overs (Virat Kohli 58, Rajat Patidar 52, Glenn Maxwell 33; Pradeep Sangwan 2/19, Rashid Khan 1/29) lost to Gujarat Titans 174/4 off 19.3 overs (David Miller 39 not out, Rahul Tewatia 43 not out; Wanindu Hasaranga 2/28). Gujarat Titans won by six wickets.

IPL 2022: Ravindra Jadeja hands back CSK captaincy to MS Dhoni

0

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish Chennai Super Kings captaincy and requested MS Dhoni to lead the side again, the franchise announced on Saturday.

The 40-year-old, Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game. Notably, Jadeja has struggled to perform with both bat and ball in the IPL 2022.

“Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK,” the franchise said in a statement.

“MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” it added.

Four-time champions CSK have won only two out of their eight games and are at the ninth spot in the points table.

IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians win toss, opt to bowl against Rajasthan Royals

0

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first against Rajasthan Royals in match No 44 of IPL 2022 at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, here on Saturday.

Mumbai Indians, who haven’t won a single game in the ongoing season, made two changes in their playing XI as Tim David and Kumar Kartikeya come in place of Dewald Brevis and Jaydev Unadkat.

“We would like to bowl first. What we have seen over the course of the tournament, it suits us. We like to chase. We have a couple of changes. Tim David and Kumar Kartikeya come in for Brevis and Unadkat,” said Rohit at the toss.

“Preparation has been good, most of it has been done before the tournament. Hopefully, we have some fun in the middle, that’s what we have been missing. We want to try and see how we enjoy ourselves. It’s important to stick together as a group,” he added.

On the other hand, Sanju Samson led Rajasthan decided to stick with the same team, which helped them win the last game.

“We are happy to set a target, we have done that 7-8 times already. We have been playing some good cricket, it’s easy to be complacent, but we are taking this game as a really important one. We are playing with the same team,” said Sanju.

Playing XIs:

Rajasthan Royals:

Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson(w/c), Daryl Mitchell, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Sen

Mumbai Indians:

Ishan Kishan(w), Rohit Sharma(c), Tim David, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Hrithik Shokeen, Daniel Sams, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya, Riley Meredith

IPL 2022: Pradeep Sangwan returns from wilderness to success

0

Success in sport depends on different factors and that is the reason why two people starting at the same time may end up with contrasting fortunes in the same sport.

As they faced off during Match 43 of IPL 2022 between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne Stadium here, two cricketers from Delhi — Virat Kohli and Pradeep Sangwan — presented a case study of how destiny plays its role in success.

Kohli and Sangwan started around the same time and were part of the Indian under-19 cricket team that won the 2008 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia. Kohli was the captain of the team and Sangwan, the left-arm pacer who had modeled himself on the lines of Pakistan legend Wasim Akram, too was a success, claiming eight wickets for India in the tournament. Both of them were fast-tracked into the IPL in the inaugural season with Delhi Daredevils picking Sangwan and Royal Challengers Bangalore drafting Kohli.

Their paths changed after that and today while Kohli is the most successful batter in IPL history, Sangwan has spent his time at different franchises — going from the playing XI to being a net bowler for Delhi Capitals in 2020.

The 31-year-old from Rasiwas in Delhi has represented Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Gujarat Lions and is now with Gujarat Titans, the new IPL franchise. In between, he had also earned some unwanted notoriety as the first IPL player to fail a random dope test in 2013 while playing for KKR.

On Saturday, Sangwan was included in the Gujarat Titans playing XI and came out as their best bowler in the field, claiming two wickets for 2/19 off his four overs.

He bowled superbly, moved the ball initially and varied pace and angle to keep the batters guessing. He was called up to bowl the second over and got the wicket of Royal Challengers skipper Faf du Plessis for zero, inducing an edge for Wriddhiman Saha to pouch a simple catch.

Sangwan set up du Plessis superbly, bowling two in-swingers and followed that up with one that went straight as du Plessis tried to make room and could manage only to edge it behind.

In his second spell, Sangwan got the dangerous Patidar as he top-edged a paddle shot to square leg where Shubman Gill completed an easy catch.

Sangwan said the ball was gripping a bit and made full use of the conditions to emerge as the best Gujarat Titans bowler on the day.

Sangwan is quite experienced on the domestic circuit, having played 58 first-class matches for Delhi in which he claimed 178 wickets. In List A matches, he has taken 94 wickets in 58 matches while in 92 T20 matches, he has taken 100 wickets.

He is a decent batter too and has scored a hundred and four half-centuries in First-class cricket.

Now that he got a chance to impress in IPL 2022, Sangwan would be hoping to get a few more matches to play and more success.

Now Smriti Irani to trail Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad

After bringing down Rahul Gandhi at Amethi, Smriti Irani is all set to land in Wayanad next week, the constituency that the Congress leader had won in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

According to sources in the know of things, Irani, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, is coming with a mission to take on Rahul Gandhi, especially with the Wayanad district having the largest population of tribals in the state and their condition continues to rot, despite the numerous schemes that the Centre has for their upliftment.

According to the 2011 Census, the Scheduled Tribe population in Kerala is 4,84,839 (1.5 percent of the total population). And Wayanad district has the highest number of tribals at 1,51,443.

Incidentally, it was actor-politician Suresh Gopi, a nominated member of the Upper House whose term ended this month, who in his last few speeches in the Parliament raised the issue of how centrally sponsored schemes for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden and for the SC/ST communities in Kerala are not getting due attention, giving the impetus to Irani to make a visit to Wayanad.

Irani is expected to go around the tribal colonies and is likely to be in Wayanad for one or two days. She is likely to use most of her time to take on Rahul Gandhi and his absence from the constituency.

Madrid Open: Azarenka beats Zidansek to reach pre-quarterfinals

0

Former World No 1 Victoria Azarenka reached the pre-quarterfinals of the Madrid Open after beating Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek, here on Saturday.

The 32-year-old, Azarenka overcame 24-year-old Zidansek 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in 2 hours and 20 minutes to reach the Madrid Open Round of 16 for the first time since 2016.

Azarenka, a two-time runner-up in 2011 and 2012, is playing her first tournament since retiring against Linda Fruhvirtova in the third round of Miami due to personal reasons. Australian Open.

Zidansek tallied more winners, 28 to Azarenka’s 22, and fewer unforced errors, 38 to 40. But she paid the price for diminishing first serve efficacy, winning 43 percent of the points behind it in the second set and 53 percent in the third compared to 73 percent in the first. Seven double faults were also an issue.

Azarenka was also beset by eight double faults, and only converted six of 18 breakpoint chances. But her first serve efficacy rose as the match went on: after winning 58 percent of the points behind it in the first set, that number rose to 88 percent in the second set and 63 percent in the third.

Two-time major champion Azarenka will next face either Amanda Anisimova or qualifier Petra Martic in a bid to reach her first Madrid quarterfinal since 2012.

‘Runway 34’ re-establishes Rakul Preet’s pan-Indian appeal

Known for her nuanced, subtle, and layered performances in multiple languages, actress Rakul Preet Singh is well on her way to becoming the film industry’s first-ever pan-India female superstar.

Back in the day, Sridevi held the title of being the first-ever multi-lingual female superstar. Similarly, Rakul, with her beautiful expressive eyes and on-screen presence is adept at playing varied and diverse roles.

After ruling regional cinema with massive blockbusters such as ‘NTR: Kathanayakudu’, ‘Dev’, ‘NGK’, ‘Manmadhudu 2’, and many more, Rakul Preet forayed into Hindi cinema with ‘Yaariyan’. After making her mark in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada cinema, she quickly followed her Bollywood debut with back-to-back releases, such as ‘Aiyaary’, ‘De De Pyaar De, ‘Sardar Ka Grandson’, ‘Attack’, and now ‘Runway 34’, which is at present a fan favorite because of her versatile and strong performance.

Despite sharing the screen space with Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Runway 34’, Rakul made her own space with a layered and nuanced performance. She took her craft to an entirely new level, especially during the courtroom scenes in the film, against a veteran actor like Amitabh Bachchan, which is a mammoth task for any actor who is worth her salt.

Very few actors are able to express the right emotions using their eyes and Rakul has done it beautifully in the film.

A popular choice among filmmakers, across various genres and languages, Rakul Preet is a rare actress who has lined up seven new releases in three languages.

Movies such as ‘Mission Cinderella with Akshay Kumar, ‘Doctor G’ with Ayushmann Khurrana, ‘Thank God with Ajay Devgn, ‘Ayalaan’ with Tamil actor Sivakarthikeyan, a female-centric drama titled ‘Chhatriwali’, along with two more mega movies.

All this proves one point. Rakul is talented, popular, and enjoys a massive fan following across every language audience, making her the next big pan-India female superstar.

Three flops in three months: Can Pooja Hegde recover?

Pooja Hegde, one of the most popular heroines in the south, had a string of hits just a year ago, but now finds herself in the opposite situation.

‘Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava,’ ‘Maharshi,’ ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramuloo,’ and ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ were all considered hits for actresses Pooja Hegde prior to a string of flops.

Pooja appears to be in a bad spot all of a sudden, with ‘Radhe Shyam’ in March and ‘Beast’ and ‘Acharya’ in April labeled as ‘utter flops.’ Three bad films in less than three months for a star actress indicates an impending downfall that must be addressed as soon as possible.

Pooja Hegde will be seen in a special dance number in Anil Ravipudi’s next film, ‘F3,’ starring Venkatesh, Varun Tej, Tamannah, Mehreen, and others.

Pooja Hegde has a couple of biggies in her possession, which may help her get out of these sticky situations as well.

After a hat-trick of flops, Mahesh Babu will star in ‘SSMB28,’ directed by Trivikram Srinivas, with one big star Pooja opposite. She will also appear in ‘Bhavadeeyudu Bhagat Singh’ alongside Pawan Kalyan, under Harish Shankar’s direction.

Google Docs expands warnings about dodgy files, links

0

Tech giant Google has announced that its office collaboration tools Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings will now show a warning banner when users open potentially malicious files from the web.

According to The Verge, the banner already appears when dodgy files are accessed from within Drive, as well as from suspicious links within separate Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings files.

The broader rollout should help protect users in a wider range of situations, the report said.

Confusingly, Google’s January 20 announcement post said that the banner already appeared when opening Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings links. However, the company tells us this was a typo, and that it should instead say that the banner appears on “links from Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings” files.

The warning banners appear to be an attempt to combat scams that use Google’s office productivity software to create a veneer of authenticity around dodgy links and phishing attempts.

In 2020, Wired reported on a wave of scams that were using Google’s various sharing and collaboration features to get their malicious files in front of unsuspecting users. Clicking a link in one of these documents sends a user to a site filled with dodgy ads, or a typical phishing site asking them to enter bank or other account details.

Google’s announcement said that the new warning banner is rolling out over the next couple of weeks to all accounts, business and personal alike.

Kangana Ranaut claims ‘Dhaakad’ is a genre defining film

As the trailer of her upcoming film ‘Dhakkad’ is released, actress Kangana Ranaut who is playing the protagonist in the film says that it will redefine the action genre for Indian cinema.

The event saw Kangana’s entry in a chopper at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse Grounds after which the actress drove straight to PVR Icon, Phoenix Mall in Lower Parel.

After the trailer is shown to the media, Kangana said, “It has been a long-standing dream of mine to take up challenging parts and be part of movies that change the norm. Dhaakad is one such film. I enjoyed playing Agent Agni who stops at nothing. Dhaakad is a genre-defining film and we’ve worked very hard to create something that lived up to the dream that we had envisioned. Agent Agni is a force of nature and embodies the strength within us and the film is a celebration of grit and power.”

The film is directed by Rajneesh Ghai, also stars – Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta, and Saswata Chatterjee among others.

Director Razneesh Ghai said, “Dhaakad being my first film will always be close to my heart. Kangana is the new brooding action hero. Her understanding of a screenplay is simply outstanding. She has aced all the intricately choreographed action sequences with perfection. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with her and watch her effortlessly pull off this demanding role. She is an acting powerhouse.”

As Arjun Rampal is appearing in a very unique avatar in the film, the director also added, “Arjun, my brother, has brought his invaluable experience to Rudhraveer’s role. His character vibrates with an infectious energy that only an actor of his calibre could have brought to the table. He has also pushed the bar with his looks and style for Dhaakad which will catch everyone’s attention.”

Producer Deepak Mukut added, “Dhaakad is a labor of love. The subject of the film is very close to my heart and I wanted to ensure that the action thriller has an important message at its core. With Kangana Ranaut fronting our film, and Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta providing some impeccable performances, we are excited for the audience to view this action bonanza when it hits the theatres.”

‘Dhakkad’ releases in theatre on May 20.

Chiranjeevi moves on to ‘Waltair Veerayya’ after ‘Acharya’ debacle

Megastar Chiranjeevi had to face a big debacle as his movie ‘Acharya’, which was released a couple of days ago, failed to create any impact on the audience.

Despite the fact that Chiranjeevi’s fans are bitterly disappointed by the flop that was ‘Acharya,’ Chiranjeevi appears to have recovered quite quickly. According to sources, Chiranjeevi is only interested in these projects because he has more than three in the works.

With all eyes on his upcoming films ‘Godfather,’ ‘Bholaa Shankar,’ and another tentatively titled ‘Waltair Veerayya,’ Chiranjeevi will be seen on the sets for his next shooting schedule soon.

Furthermore, Chiranjeevi’s recent interviews show that he is very excited about his upcoming film under Bobby’s direction, tentatively titled ‘Waltair Veerayya.’

Chiranjeevi stated in one of his interviews that his role in the film would treat all of his fans as the story and narrative are quite gripping, similar to his mass role in the film ‘Mutha Mestri.’

Because ‘Acharya’ failed to live up to expectations, Chiranjeevi’s fans are hoping that the megastar’s upcoming films will be a success.

Priortise cases of 3.5 L poor undertrials on humanitarian sensibility, PM to CMs, HCs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said there are nearly 3.5 lakh undertrials in jail – mostly from poor or ordinary families – and appealed to all chief ministers and chief justices of high courts to prioritize their cases on the bases of humanitarian sensibility and law.

The Prime Minister was speaking at the Joint Conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts, which was also attended by Chief Justice N. V. Ramana, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Law, and Justice S.P. Singh Baghel, and Supreme Court judges.

The Prime Minister insisted that judicial reform is not merely a policy matter and human sensitivities are involved and they should be kept at the center of all the deliberations.

He pointed out there are about 3.5 lakh prisoners in the country who are under trial and are in jail, most of whom are from poor or ordinary families.

“In every district, there is a committee headed by the District Judge, so that these cases can be reviewed and wherever possible, such prisoners may be released on bail. I would appeal to all Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts to give priority to these matters on the basis of humanitarian sensibility and law”, he added.

He said that 75 years of Independence have continuously clarified the roles and responsibilities of both the judiciary and the executive.

The Prime Minister also talked about the complexities and obsolescence of in-laws.

He said in 2015, the government identified 1,800 laws that had become irrelevant and 1,450 laws have already been repealed.

Noting that only 75 such laws have been removed by the states, Prime Minister Modi said: “I would urge all the Chief Ministers that for the rights of the citizens of their state and for their ease of living, definitely steps should be taken in this direction.”

The Prime Minister said it is important to promote local languages in the courts so that people of the country feel connected with the judicial process and their faith in the same increases.

He said that people’s right to judicial process will strengthen by this and local languages are being promoted in technical education also.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government is working hard to reduce delays in justice delivery and efforts are being made to increase the judicial strength and improve the judicial infrastructure.

The Prime Minister said “in our country, while the role of the judiciary is that of the guardian of the constitution, the legislature represents the aspirations of the citizens. I believe that this confluence and balance of these two branches of the Constitution will prepare the roadmap for an effective and time-bound judicial system in the country”.

He said the government considers the possibilities of technology in the judicial system as an essential part of the Digital India mission and appealed to the chief ministers and chief justices of high courts to take it forward.

The Prime Minister cited the success of digital transactions in small towns and even in villages and added that out of all the digital transactions that took place in the world last year, 40 percent of the digital transactions were in India.

The Prime Minister said “In 2047, when the country will complete 100 years of its Independence, then what kind of judicial system would we like to see in the country? How do we make our judicial system so capable that it can fulfill the aspirations of India of 2047, these questions should be our priority today”.

Man on a Mission: How ‘Rocking Star’ Yash gave a new life to Kannada cinema

After the demise of legendary actor Dr. Rajkumar, many had raised doubts about the survival of the Kannada film industry.

Despite delivering back-to-back super hits that competed with the best cinemas in India, the Kannada film industry was always seen as “inferior” compared to Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam industries.

Now, with the ‘KGF Chapter-1’ and ‘KGF Chapter-2’ movies, for the first time since its inception, the Kannada film industry has asserted itself at the national and international levels in terms of commercial success and acceptability. Thanks to superstar Yash, fondly known as Rocking Star Yash, who made it possible.

Six years ago, no one believed Yash when he repeatedly spoke about delivering a super hit movie. He would say that the movie would be such that the audience will not stop whistling and clapping. Even when news channels forced him to attend debates after telecasting news against him, he kept saying he does not have time, big projects are being lined up and he needs to focus.

People are now realizing what Yash was trying to convey to them then. Hailing from a middle-class family, Yash, passionate about cinemas, started his career in theatre. It did not take him very long to reach the small screen and thereafter, the big screen. He remained composed throughout, went on to win the hearts of people with his movies, and achieved superstardom in the Kannada film industry. Soon, he started working on his dream project KGF Chapter-1. The rest, as they say, is history.

Rashmi. S., Executive Editor of Raj News and Chief of Raj Kannada Music channel says that Yash’s journey to superstardom is similar to the character he played in his first movie Moggina Manasu”.

“In the movie the character of Yash aspires to be a singer. He sacrifices his love for his career in the movie. Yash and Radhika fall in love with each other during the shoot. Yash sits with Radhika and talks to her about dedicating 10 years to their career. Both get married after becoming most sought-after actors,” she explains.

Yash started his work as an associate director and knows the nuances of technicalities. He sits for editing throughout and gives keen attention to music, and background music. Until the movie gets ready for release, Yash is totally engrossed with it.

One can see that desperateness, that yearning for churning out a good product. That passion and dedication have made him what he is today, she says.

Director and Producer Sudhakar Bhandari remembers how Yash played the role of guardian angel for their super hit movie ‘Rangitaranga’. “Yash saw rushes and appreciated our work. He also gave a promotional bite which helped the movie before release,” he says.

Once the movie was ready, Yash was the first to watch it. He suggested reducing the duration of the film by 10 minutes and told us that it would be a super hit. Later, about 12 minutes of editing was done and the movie went on to become a super hit and won accolades at international levels.

“Yash is a good judge. His sense of editing is sharp. He knows the art of choosing good subjects. His passion towards cinema is too deep. He always believed that the Kannada film industry is on par with any other industry in the nation. A big hats off to him,” he says.

Bhuvan Gowda, the KGF Chapter-2 fame cinematographer, who was with Yash throughout the journey of the KGF series, says: “I had made a portfolio of Yash and poster shoot for his movie ‘Gajakesari’. After seeing the result, Yash hired me cinematographer to his ‘Masterpeice’ and journey continued in ‘KGF Chapter-1’ and ‘KGF Chapter – 2’.”

Rocking Star Yash always dreams about his work. He is passionate about the work and he would speak endlessly about cinema like how to develop shots, and dialogue corrections, he says.

On several occasions, there would be technical glitches during the shoot of KGF Chapter 2. In case of problems, Yash would always ask me to take 10 more shots when asked for one, he remembers.

To ensure that the script comes on screen as it is, he would push all departments and guide them too. He would talk about scaling up the movie to the national level for a very long time, he says.

Kannada movies were categorized as ordinary and no one cared to watch them. They would talk about poor quality and low budget. KGF Chapter-2 saw full house shows in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and in a place like Bhubaneshwar, the movie was exhibited to full shows for seven days. Audiences are celebrating in the US, Russia, “what more we want” he explains.

The Kannada film industry is galvanized by the success of KGF Chapter-2. More and more pan-India projects are being launched. No one is even talking about the survival of the Kannada film industry after Yash proved his mettle.

LG India eyes 30% growth in home appliances segment in 2022

0

Riding high on the success of its home appliance business last year, consumer electronics giant LG, which currently has a 33 percent market share in India, is eyeing almost 30 percent this year, a top company executive has said.

According to Deepak Bansal, Vice President, Home Appliances and Air Conditioners, LG did a good business in 2021 and the company has logged turnover growth of more than 20 percent.

“The business for LG has been good in 2021 and when we say good, that means we have logged turnover growth of more than 20 percent,” Bansal told IANS.

“We are already at 33 percent market share and are expecting minimum growth of almost 30 percent this year,” he added.

As several new players are foraying into the home appliance market, the consumer electronics giant is considering them as an opportunity.

“While many of the new players are entering the home appliance market, rather than seeing them as a threat, we consider them an opportunity,” Bansal noted.

The new brands are going to generate the demand for the products and “with the products that we operate in, we will be in a better position to capture the market,” he added.

The company recently unveiled a new lineup of home appliances, which starts from Rs 15,000 and goes up to Rs 2 lakh. It includes new refrigerators, AI-based washing machines, wearable air purifiers, water purifiers, and a range of charcoal microwaves.

Earlier this year, LG Electronics launched the latest range of AI dual inverter air conditioners with multiple in-built sensors. The new range of split ACs is available in the range of Rs 39,990 to Rs 73,990.
The ACS comes with a superior, varied speed dual rotary compressor, giving optimal cooling by automatically analyzing the inputs from the sensors.

LG VIRAAT Super 5 Star ACs offer a 35 percent bigger outdoor unit due to which heat exchange is optimized and it can operate in high ambient heat conditions while still consuming 11 percent less energy.

The company has also started manufacturing ‘dual inverter’ window air conditioners at their Noida plant.

It will invest in building the infrastructure with the capability of manufacturing up to 300,000 units of window ACs in the country.

The company said that its new range of frost-free refrigerators is equipped with ‘E-micom’, which allows users to conveniently control the temperature settings without opening the door, significantly reducing the cold air loss.

Apple faces up to $8 bn revenue hit due to China lockdowns

The ongoing Covid-19 lockdowns in China are set to make a huge dent in Apple revenue for the April-June quarter as the company has indicated up to an $8 billion loss in sales especially owing to the Shanghai lockdown.

As Shanghai entered the second month of lockdown and more cities in China face pandemic restrictions, demand for Apple products in the country might slow further, reports Nikkei Asia.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an earnings call this week that “we have estimated the constraints to be in the range of $4 to $8 billion and these constraints are primarily centered around the Shanghai corridor”.

“The COVID-related disruptions are also having some impact on customer demand in China,” added Apple CFO Luca Maestri.

The report said that more than half of Apple’s 200 main suppliers have facilities in Shanghai and the surrounding regions.

“The lockdowns and traffic restrictions disrupt a broad swath of business activities in the region,” the report said on Friday.

The iPhone maker is also facing industrywide silicon shortages, which will continue into the current quarter.

However, Cook said that “almost all of the affected final assembly factories have now restarted”.

“We’re also encouraged that the Covid case count that’s been reported in Shanghai has decreased over the last few days,” he added.

In Shanghai, 31 companies run production facilities that supply Apple.

According to reports, some Apple suppliers have reopened facilities in bubble-like environments where workers are staying inside the premises.

Apple’s biggest supplier Foxconn has kept production going at its biggest iPhone-assembly plant in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou.

In Shanghai’s outbreak, nearly all victims have been elderly, unvaccinated residents with underlying health problems, according to Chinese officials.

IPL 2022: Through backing from Lucknow Super Giants, Mohsin Khan fulfils parents’ dream

0

When newbies Lucknow Super Giants acquired the services of left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan in the mega auction, it didn’t cause much excitement. After all, the 23-year-old tall left-arm pacer from Uttar Pradesh had been a member of Mumbai Indians for the last three seasons but had been warming the bench.

But a move to Lucknow has seen Mohsin get chances and make the most of it, as seen from his spell of 3/24 to be one of the main architects for Lucknow winning against Punjab Kings by 20 runs.

“Since the time I joined the team, the atmosphere has been really great. Everyone has been supporting me well whenever I came into the bowl. They were saying that the way you are bowling, you have to continue with it, which gave me confidence. I was in Mumbai (Indians) for three years but didn’t get a chance. But when I came here, they put their trust in me and I have been backing myself as well,” said Mohsin after the match.

When it seemed that Punjab would run away with the match after Liam Livingstone had hit Ravi Bishnoi for successive sixes, Mohsin changed the match by bowling a slower ball which the batter tried to put away with a pre-mediated scoop but gloved behind to the keeper. The slower was the keyword for him as he grabbed scalps of Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar to take Lucknow closer to victory.

“Happy with the win and we will continue to focus on the plans that have worked for us. In the coming times in the tournament, we will stick to playing normal cricket and try to win. (KL) Rahul Bhai came to me and said that I have to do what I have been doing for so long. He said to me to do what I do freely and that was on my mind. Like, I was delivering the slower ones well, the back of the hand (ones), and was backing my bowling abilities. Through doing that, the team won, so it feels good,” stated Mohsin on his good show with the ball.

The support from Lucknow’s coaching staff and captain Rahul means Mohsin has joined the list of uncapped Indian players putting up an impressive show in IPL 2022.

“I was with the Mumbai Indians for the last three years and it’s a big team so I didn’t get an opportunity really but I learned a lot. Now here at LSG, the team is strong, support staff and management have been really supportive. They just tell me to back my strengths and do what I have been doing in domestic cricket.”

Above all, Mohsin is elated that with him being backed by Lucknow, he has been able to fulfil the dream of his parents — to play and do well in IPL.

“Skipper KL Rahul and coaches have asked me to add a few things to my repertoire and will keep working hard. I have been waiting for my opportunity for three years and it was my parents’ dream to see me play at the IPL stage they are happy and seeing them, I am the happiest that I am able to fulfill their dream. I will dedicate this performance to both of them.”

IPL 2022: Punjab Kings lost too many wickets at the start, admits Arshdeep

0

Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh admitted that his side lost too many early wickets in the chase of 154 against Lucknow Super Giants at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Friday.

On a sticky, two-paced pitch, Punjab Kings lost their top-three batters Mayank Agarwal, Shikhar Dhawan, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the first eight overs.

Though Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow showed some intent to take Punjab home, their removal in a middle-overs squeeze by Lucknow meant they fell short by 20 runs.

“They (Lucknow) bowled really well and didn’t give many loose balls. I guess we lost too many wickets (one or two) at the start. We could have extended the chase and the result could have been different,” said Arshdeep in a post-match virtual press conference.

In the ongoing edition of IPL, Punjab is yet to get successive wins on the trot and the 20-run loss to Lucknow leaves them at seventh place on the points table.

“We know that every match is a must-win from here on. We have to follow our process and will try to execute whatever we are doing in practice. It will give us good results and will try to give a hundred perfect effort for all the matches,” stated Arshdeep on the road ahead.

Though Arshdeep has taken just three wickets in nine matches, he has earned phenomenal praise for his controlled bowling in the death overs, seen from an economy rate of 6.25.

With many former cricketers tipping him to be in India’s squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup later in the year, the young left-arm pacer is currently focused on being a better team player and doing the job which he has been allocated in Punjab.

“There wasn’t much long off-season as we played Ranji Trophy and all domestic tournaments. Just like the talk I had with the coaching staff last year, my plan has always been to a bowl in good areas and let the batter make mistakes. In death overs, I bowl the yorkers and it’s just about repetition. The more you repeat the processes, the better you become. I just try to keep things simple.

“I am happy but as a sportsperson, I am never satisfied. Grateful to be able to perform well for the team whenever I am getting the opportunity. I don’t focus on individual performances because it is a team game. You just need to perform the role you have been assigned.”

When a domestic help’s reluctance to bowl to him revealed Shivam Dube’s talent

Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 95-run knock for Chennai Super Kings against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ‘Southern Derby’ more than a fortnight back is one of the very few memorable things for the four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions this season.

In a forgettable season for the Ravindra Jadeja-led side so far, Dube and his partnership with Robin Uthappa (88) was the key to the side notching up a mammoth 216/4 on that memorable day in the match at the DY Patil Stadium on April 12, which CSK won by 23 runs.

But few would know about the 28-year-old Mumbai cricketer and his initiation into cricket. For all his success in the IPL — Dube has been with RCB, Rajashtan Royals, and now CSK — he has to thank his domestic help, who became so frustrated with his stroke-play when he was just four years old, that he refused to bowl to him for fear of being made to run all around the park to gather the ball.

Revealing an interesting incident in his life, Dube said, “When I started playing cricket at the age of four in my building, we had a domestic help who would throw balls to me, and I would hit. He had to run to get the ball. After a day or two, he stopped throwing balls at me and I went up to tell my father.

“My dad asked what’s the problem in throwing balls to a four-year-old. And he (domestic help) said I have to run to fetch the ball, he’s hitting it everywhere. My father then asked him to throw balls and saw me play. I stood in the left-hander’s position and my father was shocked because both mom and dad are right-handers. Then I hit the balls and my dad decided I will play cricket,” revealed Dube.

“This is the story that got cricket to me. My dad got interested and saw my ability. He always told me you’ve got the talent but you still have to work hard,” added Dube.

The left-hand batter has scored the most runs for CSK in IPL 2022, making 247 runs from eight innings, with the best being an unbeaten 95 against RCB.
