IPL 2022: My team is RCB, been lucky enough to meet Virat Kohli, says Harry Kane

0

England and Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane has revealed that he supports the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise in the Indian Premier League, adding that he has been lucky enough to meet Virat Kohli a few times and speak with him.

The 28-year-old footballer believes RCB has picked some good players in the IPL 2022 mega auction and the Faf du Plessis-led side can do wonders this season.

“So my team is RCB. I have been lucky enough to meet Virat Kohli a few times and speak with him. They have picked up some good players this time,” Kane told Star Sports.

“They were unlucky last year but they did the right things this year, they started well. There are some great teams at the IPL. I just like watching all of them be honest but hopefully, RCB can go well,” he added.

The England football team skipper also praised Kohli’s batting and called the former India captain a ‘down to earth guy’.

“Virat is incredible to watch. A real down-to-earth guy. He has fire in his batting and passion when you watch him play which is great to see,” said Kane.

“We have been playing cricket for a year and a half and so we were playing pretty much once or twice a week and that was good fun. We enjoy playing cricket, obviously, the IPL is on at the moment so we’re enjoying watching that as well,” he added.

RCB has won five out of seven matches in the ongoing season and is at the third spot with 10 points.

He said all-rounder Washington Sundar, who suffered an injury during the match against Gujarat Titans on April 11 is getting better day by day and would be fit for their next game.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis said as this is their first game on this ground, but the pitch looks pretty consistent and is offering something to the bowlers as well. He said they have to plan accordingly and added that they always have to keep believing in the guys who have not been performing, but for them, it’s different players stepping up in different games.

IPL 2022: Gujarat Titans successfully defend 156; defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by eight runs

0

Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack successfully defended 156 to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by eight runs at DY Patil Stadium on Saturday.

Despite losing seven wickets in the last five overs after Hardik Pandya’s 67 to end at 156/9, Gujarat’s bowling attack clicked in unison, taking four wickets in the first seven overs.

They were also aided by fielders taking some stunning catches to restrict Kolkata to 148/8 in 20 overs. The result means that Gujarat is now on top of the points table.

With a new opening combination in Sam Billings and Sunil Narine, Kolkata’s hopes of a blistering start began well when the former brought out a glorious straight drive against Mohammed Shami. But Shami had the last laugh as Billings top-edged a pull to wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha. Shami then set up Narine with two short balls on their body and then slipped one on hips, which the batter pulled uncomfortably to a diving short fine leg.

Nitish Rana fell cheaply, forced to poke at a Lockie Ferguson delivery, and took a healthy edge behind Saha as Gujarat successfully overturned the not-out decision. Shreyas Iyer had begun to look comfortable at the crease but was undone by over the wicket angle from Yash Dayal and nicked behind to Saha.

Rinku Singh found the boundary rope five times in his stay of 35 and shared a 45-run stand with Venkatesh Iyer. But in an attempt to smash Yash Dayal over mid-wicket, Rinku could only manage a bottom edge going behind to Saha. Venkatesh tried to slog-sweep Rashid Khan but Abhinav Manohar took a stunning catch just in front of the deep mid-wicket boundary rope.

In between, Andre Russell got his first boundary with a thickish edge off Dayal over Saha’s head. On the next ball, Russell tried to fend off a Dayal bouncer with his bat but the ball flew straight off his bat to fine leg. But Dayal’s jubilation was cut short as replays showed front-foot no-ball. Russell rubbed salt on wounds by thumping Dayal on back-to-back sixes to end an eventful 13th over.

Russell then smacked a Ferguson full toss over long-off. Khan got out Shivam Mavi and almost had Umesh Yadav lbw with the googly but replays showed the ball missing the stumps. With 45 needed off 24 balls, Russell uppercut Shami over backward point for six. Umesh cleared his front leg to swat Ferguson over deep mid-wicket for six more.

Russell hit a six down the ground off Dayal but could manage five runs off the rest of them over for the equation to read as 18 off the final over. On the first ball, Russell smashed an Alzarri Joseph full toss over long-on for a huge six.

But Joseph had the last laugh as Russell mistimed a pull to fine leg immediately. That turned out to be a decisive blow for Kolkata as Joseph conceded two, one followed by successive dots to seal a close win for Gujarat.

Brief Scores: Gujarat Titans 156/9 in 20 overs (Hardik Pandya 67, David Miller 27; Andre Russell 4/5, Tim Southee 3/24) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 148/8 in 20 overs (Andre Russell 48, Rinku Singh 35; Mohammed Shami 2/20, Rashid Khan 2/22) by eight runs

Kejriwal senses early polls in Himachal, Gujarat

Sensing early assembly polls, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said the BJP will hold early elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, adding if voted to power, his party would implement the Delhi model of governance in Himachal Pradesh.

“I have heard that they (BJP) will hold early Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat,” said Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener, at a rally in Kangra town near Dharamsala.

“The BJP is scared of the Aam Aadmi Party in Himachal and Gujarat. Actually, they are scared of the public, not the AAP. The BJP has decided to hold early elections in Himachal and Gujarat. It does not matter whenever BJP conducts elections, power should come in the hands of the common man,” he said.

In both the states, the elections are due by year-end.

Kejriwal urged good leaders in the ruling BJP and the Congress to leave their parties and join AAP. “It is time to make ‘naya’ (new) Himachal Pradesh. I urge all the good people in BJP and Congress to leave their parties and join AAP. I request the people of this state to give AAP a chance.”

Saying that Himachal Pradesh is the most beautiful place on earth, Kejriwal said: “Both the Congress and the BJP looted the god-gifted beautiful land. The Congress-ruled for 30 years and the BJP for 17 years. Both parties are now abusing me.”

The Delhi Chief Minister said BJP chief Jagat Prakash Nadda abused him in a rally.

“Jai Ram Thakur said there is a two-party system in the state. I ask what is the third alternative. They are saying the situation in Himachal is different, but I say your intentions are wrong.”

About the Delhi citizen-centric models, Kejriwal said private schools have not been allowed to increase fees for the past four years, while treatment is free for all citizens.

I-League: Rajasthan United back to winning ways with clinical performance against NEROCA

0

Two second-half goals for Rajasthan United against NEROCA FC were enough to end their four-game winless run, here at the Naihati Stadium. A goal from Biswa Darjee right after halftime and a late strike from Pedro Manzi got Rajasthan off to a winning start in Phase II.

Unlike the Phase I encounter between these two sides, the game got off to a very cagey and slow start. Neither goalkeeper was tested as the final third performance of both sides was disappointing. When it looked promising, the attacks were stalled by astute defending at both ends.

Aman Thapa looked menacing down the left and won a corner inside five minutes. The ball from the set-piece ended up at the feet of Julian Omar Ramos, who shot it straight into the stands behind the goal. Shortly after that, Rajasthan lost the ball cheaply in their own half but Ricky Shabong was alert and calmly intercepted and nodded a lofted ball back to his keeper.

Shabong’s game was cut short after an unfortunate injury forced him to go off just before the half hour mark. Biswa Darjee came on to replace Shabong as Rajasthan United trotted forward with Pritam Singh. Singh shot from distance and kept it on target but failed to get the required power on it as keeper Shubham Dhas collected the ball easily.

In first-half stoppage time, Anil Chawan came flying in with a strong challenge on Abdul Salam and got his name taken by the referee. NEROCA was unable to cause any damage from the resulting free-kick after it was hurled in towards Sergio Mendigutxia. The first half-half ended with Rajasthan having only one shot on target and NEROCA with none.

The second half was nothing like the first. Aman Thapa won a corner after forcing a save out of Shubham Dhas from close range. From the resulting corner, the ball was cleared off the line by Lallenmang Sitlhou.

The very next attack resulted in the opening goal of the match. Sardor Jakhonov put a delightful cross into the box from the left and substitute Biswa Darjee headed it into the back of the net. The header was quite close to Shubham Dhas and the keeper could have done better with that effort.

NEROCA were trailing and an injury to Ben Nash Quansah added to their concerns. The defender was stretchered off but came back on to bring some relief to his side. NEROCA almost equalized when Abdul Salam picked out Sergio Mendigutxia with a long throw into the box. Keeper Bhaskar Roy came forward to collect it but spilled it in the process. Luckily for him, his defense was alert and dealt with the ball well.

Davis Kamanga, who had a quiet first half, sprung to life in the second. Dribbling and passing through the middle and final third, the Zimbabwean caused a lot of problems for the Rajasthan United defense, clicking well with Sweden Fernandes and Sergio Mendigutxia on multiple occasions.

At the hour mark, Bhaskar Roy came up with a brilliant save to deny Sergio Mendigutxia. A few minutes later, Anil Chawan put his body on the line as Rajasthan made 2 consecutive blocks and a save to keep the NEROCA attack at bay. Another chance for NEROCA came via a brilliant run and cross from Abdul Salam. The full-back’s deep cross was headed towards Kamanga, who blasted it over the crossbar.

The game was put to bed in stoppage time when substitute Alocious Muthayyan put Pedro Manzi through on goal with a clever pass and the Rajasthan United skipper made no mistake in tucking the ball into the net. Manzi could have bagged a brace in the last minute of the game but his shot from close range rattled the crossbar and stayed out.

All three points and a clean sheet lift Rajasthan United up from the bottom of the Championship Playoff table as they go above NEROCA FC, into 6th place. Both sides are only separated by a single point.

Result:

NEROCA FC 0 lost to Rajasthan United FC 2 (Biswa Darjee 47′, Pedro Manzi 90+2′)

IPL 2022: Russell, Southee pick seven wickets between themselves to restrict Gujarat to 156/9

0

Andre Russell (4/5) and Tim Southee (3/24) picked seven wickets between themselves as Kolkata Knight Riders restricted Gujarat Titans to 156/9 in match 35 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday.

For Gujarat, it was a sensational crash in the death overs phase after captain Hardik Pandya elected to bat first, making it the first time a team went for batting first in the tournament.

Pandya, who missed the last match against Chennai Super Kings due to a groin injury, marked his return to the playing eleven with a 49-ball 67, his third successive fifty in IPL 2022. But Gujarat completely lost their way in the final five overs, losing seven wickets for just 29 runs, allowing Kolkata to make a brilliant comeback.

Southee provided the first breakthrough for Kolkata on his first ball in the second over. The right-arm pacer sent a ball angled down leg-stump which Shubman Gill (7) nicked behind to the wicketkeeper.

Pandya promoted himself to three from his usual number four position and the decision began to pay off when he smacked Southee for back-to-back fours in the off-side. He got ample support from Wriddhiman Saha, who crunched Umesh Yadav for a six and four through the leg side.

Post-power-play, Pandya continued to be the aggressor, ramping Shivam Mavi for a cheeky six over fine leg, followed by an extra cover drive for four and welcoming Varun Chakravarthy with a clean lofted six over long-off.

Pandya and Saha built an important stand of 75 off 56 balls for the second wicket, which was broken by Umesh in the eleventh over as Saha fell for run-a-ball 25, in an attempt to repeat the paddle scoop which got him a four on the previous ball.

David Miller had luck on his side when Venkatesh Iyer took a catch at long-off but his foot brushed with the boundary rope, gifting the left-hander a lucky six off Sunil Narine. Narine was further taken apart for a four and six by Miller after Pandya reached his fifty in 36 balls.

Just as Gujarat looked to cruise to a 180+ total, Miller was foxed by an off-cutter from Mavi in the 17th over, giving a simple catch to backward point. The ploy to reserve Southee for the last five-phase worked well as Pandya pulled straight to deep mid-wicket and three balls later, Rashid Khan fell for a duck while trying to clear the same region.

Russell, who hadn’t bowled in the match, was brought on for the final over and dismissed Abhinav Manohar and Lockie Ferguson on successive deliveries, caught at deep mid-wicket. He closed the innings by having Rahul Tewatia caught at deep cover and completing an alert caught and bowled dismissal of Yash Dayal.

Brief Scores: Gujarat Titans 156/9 in 20 overs (Hardik Pandya 67, David Miller 27; Andre Russell 4/5, Tim Southee 3/24) against Kolkata Knight Riders

Twitter testing ‘CC’ button to turn video captions on/off

0

Micro-blogging site Twitter has announced that it is testing a ‘CC’ button that will let users turn video captions on or off.

The tweet mentioned that the feature is rolling out to some iOS users and will be coming to Android users soon.

“Twitter Video captions or no captions, it is now easier to choose for some of you on iOS, and soon on Android,” the company wrote on its platform.

“On videos that have captions available, we are testing the option to turn captions off/on with a new ‘CC’ button,” it added.

In December 2021, the micro-blogging site announced the rollout of automatic captions for videos. Auto captions were said to be available on the web, iOS, and Android in over 30 languages, including English, Hindi, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, Thai, Chinese and more.

“Where are video captions when you need them? They are here now automatically on videos uploaded starting today. Android and iOS: auto-captions will show on muted Tweet videos; keep them on when unmuted via your device’s accessibility settings. Web: use the “CC” button to turn on/off,” the company had said in a tweet.

The captions will only be added for new videos, meaning that videos that have already been uploaded to the social network will not get automatic captions, the report had said.

IPL 2022: Karthik outsmarting bowlers due to clarity of thoughts, says Shastri

0

In the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Dinesh Karthik has been a revelation as a finisher for his team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

With 210 runs in seven matches at a whopping average of 210 and strike rate of 205.88, including being not out six times, Karthik excelling in the finishing role and taking RCB out of tricky situations has been one of the chief reasons for the franchise being in top three on the points table.

Ravi Shastri, former India head coach, credits clarity of thought and hunger to score runs for Karthik producing terrific performances as a finisher in IPL 2022.

“He’s getting into great positions to play the shots, he knows what exactly his role is. He’s moving early, he’s anticipating what the bowler is going to do. What he’s doing extremely well this year is the anticipation which is turning out to be dead right on 90 percent of the time and that makes a difference,” said the former India cricketer on the Cricket Live show on Star Sports.

It is the clarity in anticipation and getting it bang on is what Shastri believes is the reason behind Karthik’s hunger to get runs in IPL 2022. “He’s outsmarting the bowlers, he’s one step ahead of them. The clarity and thought process is very positive and that’s making the difference. He has the experience, he’s fit like anyone else, but what’s great to see is the hunger to score runs. I must say, that at his age, he’s picking up the length better than most players even younger than him.”

Another former India player, Mohammad Kaif thinks Karthik never had the dearth of talent since his international debut in 2004 and feels that the 36-year-old conquering the cobwebs of mind is getting him good results in IPL 2022.

“This is his own fight, he wants to overcome his mind. He’s always had the talent and that’s why he debuted for India in 2004. It was for this very reason that he remained in the eyes of the selectors, but he could not retain his spot in the national side due to his inconsistency. What he’s doing now, is making every game count. He’s now conquered the battle in his brain and that is why he’s scoring heavily. He has the X factor and this time he is showcasing it.”

If Karthik gets to his goal of making the India squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, one won’t be surprised by the selection due to his correct anticipation, clarity of thought, and most importantly, the desire to get the team claims their second silverware in the shortest format of the game after 2007.

“I want to play for the country. This is my long-term goal and my short-term goal is to play better for RCB and help the franchise lift the IPL trophy. I want to play for India and play a crucial part in ending the team’s draught of winning an ICC trophy. I was a part of the side when we last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. So, I know how much it means to the boys to win an ICC tournament again.”

Truly an honour to be a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav, says Ram Charan

Actor Ram Charan, whose popularity seems to be touching new heights post the release of director S.S. Rajamouli’s blockbuster ‘RRR’, on Saturday won hearts by paying rich tributes to armed service personnel who had lost their lives in the service of the nation.

The actor, who was the Chief Guest for the Wreath Laying Ceremony, which was a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav organized by the Government of India at the Veerula Sanku Samarak at Parade Grounds in Hyderabad, impressed the gathering that included over 800 students, with his inspiring speech.

“I want students to remember that the air we breathe, the path we walk, the country we live in so proudly and peacefully is sole because of the officers and veterans sitting here. I am fascinated by Army officers. It gives me immense pride to see a man or woman in any uniform. In the 14 films, I have done so far, I have directly or indirectly played some roles for which I have worn the police uniform- ‘Dhruva’, ‘Zanjeer’ and more recently ‘RRR’. I am standing here today only because you all fought for us,” the actor said.

Ram Charan also thanked the officials for inviting him to the event and also the students for participating in such a noble program.

“I hope to continue to do some kind of service to this country and support the Indian Army and the Navy,” he concluded with an intense Jai Hind.

The actor did not stop by just participating in the event. He also went on to put out a post on Instagram about his participation in the event.

He said, “Truly an honor to be a part of the Azad Ka Amrit Mahostav to pay tribute to the real heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom! #75yearsofIndependence #IndianArmy”

The event is being held to commemorate 75 years of Indian independence and pay tribute to the fallen war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Ex-India players impressed by Hardik Pandya’s all-round show in IPL 2022

0

Former India cricketers Irfan Pathan, Sunil Gavaskar, and Aakash Chopra have been left impressed by Hardik Pandy’s showings as a captain and all-rounder of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022.

In the ongoing tournament, the Pandya-led Gujarat Titans are in second place on the points table with 10 points from six matches.

Though Pandya didn’t feature in Gujarat’s thrilling come-from-behind win against Chennai Super Kings, the all-rounder has been a chief factor in the newbies of the IPL circuit quickly becoming a force to reckon with.

Pandya is the leading run-scorer for Gujarat, making 228 runs at an average of 76 and strike rate of 136.52 while batting at number four.

With his right-arm pace, Pandya has bowled 18.3 overs, hitting the 140kmph mark consistently while picking four wickets at an economy rate of 7.56.
“This is a new Hardik Pandya. This is a better version of him. It was nice to see the situations in which he has played this season. The good thing about Hardik is that he is batting responsibly at No. 4.

“You don’t get to take too many chances after wickets fall early but Hardik didn’t shy away from playing big strokes early in his innings for GT if he got the looseness from the bowlers. Whether it is Team India or Gujarat Titans, Hardik is the most suited batsman at number four. This is because he can take the responsibility,” said Pathan on the Cricket Live show on Star Sports.

IPL 2022 serves as a comeback into competitive cricket for Pandya after the Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE in October-November last year. In the period between the World Cup and IPL 2022, Pandya was seen working on improving his fitness levels to fulfill his duties as an all-rounder. Gavaskar lauded him for working on his fitness and producing sterling performances with the bat.

“He didn’t play a lot of cricket before the IPL because he was trying to get fully fit with all the problems he had due to the injury. (Now) Look at the discipline he’s showing in his batting. He’s batting well in the powerplay and making full use of the field restrictions, he’s doing exceedingly well in the field. So basically, that thinking cap is on; and once that happens your game just goes up.”

Chopra reckons Pandya has learned captaincy lessons from MS Dhoni and is now applying them perfectly in the Gujarat set up in IPL 2022. Pandya has been a lot of praise for making Gujarat function like a well-oiled unit in the tournament.

“I think Hardik obviously treats him (MS Dhoni) as his mentor, he’s very close to MS. With the number at which he bats and the role that he plays, nobody has played it better than Dhoni in the history of white-ball cricket.

“He’s learned the right lessons from MS. These are the things that we don’t even have to be told, we just observe. When we are in the company of greatness, we try and take little pieces and it shapes our lives. And that’s what we are seeing with Hardik.”

The fast-paced track, the third to be released by the makers, is impressive and promises to garner as much attention as the earlier two tracks from the film — ‘Kalaavathi’ and ‘Penny’ did.

The song is all about Mahesh Babu’s character in the movie. Penned by lyricist Anant Sriram, the number has been crooned by Harika Narayan.

Music director Thaman, who has scored the music for the film, took to Twitter to present the song to fans.

Parasuram Petla! Get your earphones now. Get yourself synthefied!”

Sources close to the unit say that post-production work is happening at a brisk pace. Keerthy Suresh plays the heroine in this film that is jointly produced by Naveen Yerneni, Y. Ravi Shankar, Ram Achanta, and Gopichand Achanta under the banners of Mythri Movie Makers, GMB Entertainment, and 14 Reels Plus.

The film has cinematography by R Madhi and editing by Marthand K Venkatesh.

Jos Buttler and KL Rahul’s array of shots is unmatched

0

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has praised country-mate Jos Buttler for his array of shots, saying that the 31-year-old’s “array of shots” and his “execution of shot” is unmatched, adding that India’s KL Rahul is another cricketer who “has those skills”.

Rajasthan Royals’ Buttler has emerged as the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) leading scorer with 491 runs at a strike rate of 161.51. He has so far scored three centuries in IPL 2022 with the latest coming against Delhi Capitals on Friday evening.

He also blasted hundreds in victories against Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

“His array of shots and his execution of shots is unmatched, but I also love his calmness and his presence of mind in the middle. KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants) is another who has those skills,” said Pietersen.

Pietersen also called Buttler the best T20 batter in the world following his amazing knock for the Royals against DC, where he scored 116 off 65 balls in the mammoth total of 222/2. The Royals defeated Delhi Capitals by 15 runs thanks to the England cricketer’s knock.

“Jos Buttler has made a fabulous start to the IPL,” Pietersen was quoted as saying in his Betway blog by mirror.co.uk. “He’s the best T20 batter in the world at the moment, by a mile. That’s what sets these guys (Buttler and Rahul) apart. They are very calm and very calculated, and then have the phenomenal shot-making and ball-striking.”

Pietersen also attributed Buttler’s return to form to being dropped from the England Test side following their 4-0 thrashing in the Ashes.

“There are several guys who look totally burnt out at the moment. Whereas Jos Buttler benefitted from a break during England’s Test series in the West Indies, you’ve had the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jonny Bairstow playing all formats and living in bubbles for months on end.

“That is not any way to maximize world-class talent. They’ve churned out money for their boards by fulfilling most matches in every format in the last couple of years and, as star players, they are under constant pressure with millions of people watching them. The cricket schedule is crazy. Even as a commentator, I’m working flat out. But, clearly, I’m not under the pressure that these guys are.

“Honestly, I think these guys need a six-month break. Getaway to the US, to London, to wherever elsewhere travel is unrestricted. Clear your head, come back and rack up the runs again. It’s unrealistic, but it would do some of these guys the world of good.”

DC skipper Pant, coach Amre pay a huge price for breaching IPL’s Code of Conduct

0

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined 100 percent of his match fee for breaching the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday night.

The match between the Royals and Capitals plunged into controversy over a debatable waist-high no-ball that was ruled legal by the umpires but disputed by a team from the National Capital.

Royals went on to win the high-scoring game by 15 runs.

Television images showed Pant gesturing to Rovman Powell and Kuldeep Yadav to walk off the pitch because the umpires had refused to seek the opinion of the video official over what they claimed was a waist-high no-ball bowled by Rajasthan Royals’ Obed McCoy in the final over of the clash.

Pant asking Powell and Yadav to walk off the pitch would have amounted to forfeiting the match. However better sense prevailed with Capitals’ assistant coach Shane Watson and some other players ensuring that Pant calmed down and that the batters stayed inside the ground.

Chasing a huge target of 223 in 20 overs, Delhi Capitals needed 36 runs from six deliveries with two wickets in hand. Their West Indies hit-man Rovman Powell hammered the first two deliveries — poor full tosses — bowled by Obed McCoy for two sixes and meted out the same treatment to the third delivery, which his partner at the non-striker’s end felt was above the waist and thus a no-ball.

The umpire at the bowing end, Nitin Menon thought otherwise and allowed it as a legal entry, a decision that had the entire Delhi Capitals dugout howling in protest. Pant even sent Delhi Capitals coach Pravin Amre to walk onto the ground to argue with the umpires and impress upon them the need to refer it to the third umpire, unmindful of the rules that do not allow such decisions to be reviewed by the third umpire.

The on-field umpires were firm in their interpretation of the rules and did not rule it as a no-ball. The match went ahead and Powell could not hit any more sixes and Delhi Capitals ended up 15-run short.

On Saturday the IPL issued a statement, saying, “Mr. Pant admitted to the Level 2 offense under Article 2.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. Hesson wary of SRH skipper Williamson’s ‘methodical ways’ ahead of clash

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) director of cricket operations Mike Hesson is wary of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Kane Williamson’s “methodical ways”, saying that fact that the New Zealander has been able to get the best out of his team on so many occasions this year makes them really tough opponents.

RCB will take on SRH at the Brabourne Stadium later on Saturday and with SRH gradually moving up the points table on the back of four successive wins, the momentum is on their side.

Hesson, when asked what strategy Williamson might employ against RCB, said, “Well, Kane’s pretty methodical in terms of how he prepares. He’s very professional. He’s obviously brought that team together after a tough start losing the first couple of games. There was talk about them being out of their depth, and they’re far from that. He’s got the best out of their seam bowling attack.”

At the halfway mark of the league phase of IPL 2022, RCB sits third on the points table level on points with the other two teams above with five wins. With the SRH challenge next and the important second half of the season to look forward to, Hesson felt that an ideal situation at this stage for RCB would have been a top-two place.

“You want to push for one of those top-two spots, and that’s something we’re trying to do — getting better every game, and if we do that, we’re gonna give ourselves a chance,” said Hesson.

On what does he make of the SRH team’s composition ahead of the big evening game, Hesson said, “It’s a diverse group — left-arms, right-arms, plenty of pace on offer, and if Washington Sundar is back, some experience with the spin bowling as well. They’re a well-rounded bowling attack. With the bat, obviously, Kane carries quite a burden there with the bat upfront, and his wicket is gonna be huge for us.”

Twitter has announced to ban “misleading” advertisements related to climate change on its platform.

The micro-blogging platform said that misleading advertisements on Twitter “that contradict the scientific consensus on climate change are prohibited, in line with our inappropriate content policy”.

“We believe that climate denialism shouldn’t be monetized on Twitter, and that misrepresentative ad shouldn’t detract from important conversations about the climate crisis,” the company said in a blog post late on Friday.

Last year, Twitter introduced a dedicated Topic to help people find personalized conversations about climate change.

Twitter said that misleading information about climate change can undermine efforts to protect the planet.

“In the coming months, we’ll have more to share on our work to add reliable, authoritative context to the climate conversations happening on Twitter,” said the company.

Twitter aims to achieve 100 per cent carbon-neutral power sourcing in its current data centers by the end of this year.

Since 2021, conversation about sustainability has grown by more than 150 percent on Twitter.

“We’ve seen a 60 percent increase in terms like ‘restoring’ and ‘rebalancing’. Discussion around waste reduction has increased by over 100 percent and decarbonization by more than 50 percent,” said Twitter.

Amid multi-layered security for Modi’s visit, Jammu’s Palli village waits eagerly to welcome him

A multi-layered security set-up is in place on Saturday for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu’s Samba district on Sunday.

The security set-up was beefed up with traffic restrictions after Friday’s terror attack in Jammu city in which two terrorists and a CISF officer were killed.

Despite the attack, residents of Palli village remain unfazed and jubilant about Modi’s visit.

The otherwise sleepy village has come to life in a big way as the locals are enthusiastically waiting for the VVIP visit.

Village elders are unable to recall the last time they witnessed such an outburst of joy and activity.

More than 100 hotels, including the luxury ones, have been booked in Jammu, Bari Brahmana and Samba for the lodging of delegates, who will attend the two-day Panchayat Raj Diwas on Sunday.

The delegates include officials from the government, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), Block Development Councils, District Development Councils, as well as senior politicians.

To make the area under the Palli panchayat as “the country’s first carbon-free area”, a solar power project of 500 KVA capacity has been installed to provide electricity to 340 households.

It is estimated that the function will be attended by more than one lakh people.

A high alert has been sounded all along the International Border, while strict security arrangements have been made in the cities of Srinagar and Jammu as well.

The venue of Modi’s function in Palli panchayat has been declared out of bounding for the people after a three-tier anti-sabotage exercise was carried out at the venue.

Security around vital installations across Jammu and Kashmir has been further beefed up while security drills like the landing of helicopters and high speed movement of vehicles were carried out at the venue.

Traffic advisory in this regard said: “In view of the VVIP visit at Palli Bari Brahmana (venue of function) Samba district on April 24, 2022, the public, PRIs attending the function are advised to adopt the designated routes.”

The security checkpoints connecting Jammu and Kashmir with Himachal Pradesh and Punjab have been strengthened with the additional deployment of security forces and no one is allowed to enter without checking.
