0

The Indian space agency on Saturday said the country’s radar imaging satellite named earth observation satellite -04 (EOS-04) launched this February is functioning well and is healthy.

According to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the EOS-04 previously named RISAT-1A’s first payload imaging was successfully completed on February 25, 2022.

The space agency said detailed in-orbit tests are underway. Radiometry, Geometric evaluation, Interferometric calibration, etc. are being carried out.

On February 14, 2022 morning India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C52 (PSLV-C52) successfully placed into orbit its radar imaging satellite and two other small satellites- INS-2TD and INSPIRESat-1.

ISRO said all the satellites are healthy and performing satisfactorily.

India’s radar imaging satellite EOS-04 is designed to provide high-quality images under all weather conditions for applications such as agriculture, forestry & plantations, soil moisture & hydrology, and flood mapping.

The EOS-04 with a mission life of 10 years is a repeat of RISAT-1 launched in 2012 and is configured to ensure continuity of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) in C-Band providing microwave data to the user community for operational services.

The satellite will play a strategic role in the nation’s defense with its capability to operate in the day, night, and in all weather conditions.

The satellite has high data handling systems and high storage devices among other things.

The INSPIREsat-1 is a student satellite from the Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology (IIST) in association with the Laboratory of Atmospheric & Space Physics at the University of Colorado, USA. The other contributors are NTU, Singapore, and NCU, Taiwan.

The satellite carries two scientific payloads to improve the understanding of ionosphere dynamics and the sun’s coronal heating process.

The technology demonstrator satellite (INS-2TD) from ISRO, which is a precursor to India-Bhutan Joint Satellite (INS-2B) carries a thermal imaging camera to assess land/water surface temperature of wetlands/lakes, delineation of vegetation (crops/forests), and day/night thermal inertia.

Fake call centre duping US, Canada citizens busted in Gurugram

0

A team from the chief minister’s flying squad, DLF Phase-2 police station and cybercrime police busted a fake call center and arrested 24 people, including 10 women and the owner, during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

According to police, the call center operating from a ground floor of a house in DLF Phase-2 used to cheat the US and Canadian citizens in the name of tech support and charge $500 to $1,000 as a service charge, via gift card.

The employees of the alleged call center would call the victims posing as officials of Canada Border Service Agent, Financial Crime Unit Bureau of Narcotics, and Canadian Intelligence Service and accuse them of being involved in drugs peddling and money laundering cases and charge money from them.

The accused had also paid Rs 1.50 lakh per month as floor rent for four months.

Police have recovered Rs 2.50 lakh in cash, two CPU, and as many mobile phones from the spot.

The owner of the call center identified as Umesh Yadav, a resident of Kosli in Rewari district, was also arrested.

According to police, a team from the flying squad, DLF Phase-2 police station, and Cyber Crime police led by DSP Inderjeet Singh Yadav of CM flying wing and ACP, DLF Sanjeev Balhara raided the call center following a tip-off.

There they spotted 14 boys and 10 girls who were communicating with the American nation in the English language (American accent).

“The employees were employed at the call centers, which were being operated without permission. Also, the center did not have any license issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT),” Yadav said.

During questioning, the accused owner revealed that they used to communicate with US and Canadian citizens to provide tech support and sent pop-ups and used to charge nearly $ 500 to $ 1,000 per client as service charge,” he added.

“The accused owner disclosed that earlier he has worked in a Delhi-based call center for two years as a supervisor and to earn quick money he had started his call center. The accused also revealed that he was in touch with a supervisor of a US-based WhatsApp group who used to provide a list of US citizens and charge 25% commission of the total amount and after taking his commission the remaining amount was transferred to him through his manager Kanwar Singh,” the DSP said.

An FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including the IT Act, has been registered at the DLF Phase-2 police station for further investigation.

Modi to attend BIMSTEC summit on March 30

To cement economic, trade, and security cooperation with friendly neighboring countries in South Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the fifth summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) on March 30.

BIMSTEC is a regional organization that was established on June 6, 1997, with the signing of the Bangkok Declaration.

“The summit meeting, which is being held in virtual mode, will be hosted by Sri Lanka, the current BIMSTEC chair,” the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday.

To prepare for the summit, meetings of BIMSTEC Senior Officials (SOM) will take place on March 28, followed by meetings of the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers (BMM) the next day.

The Covid pandemic-related challenges, and the uncertainties within the international system that all BIMSTEC members are facing, imparts greater urgency to the goal of taking BIMSTEC technical and economic cooperation to the next level.

This is expected to be the main subject of deliberations by leaders at the summit.

The leaders are also expected to discuss the establishment of basic institutional structures and mechanisms of the group.

The member countries of BIMSTEC are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

Being a sector-driven grouping, cooperation within BIMSTEC had initially focused on six sectors in 1997 — trade, technology, energy, transport, tourism, and fisheries — and expanded in 2008 to incorporate agriculture, public health, poverty alleviation, counter-terrorism, environment, culture, people-to-people contact, and climate change.

Subsequently, following steps to rationalize and reorganize sectors and sub-sectors, cooperation was reorganized in 2021.

SpaceX, Northrop Grumman win 6 NASA resupply missions to ISS

0

NASA said it has ordered six additional resupply missions from SpaceX under its Commercial Resupply Services-2 (CRS-2) contract and also placed an order for six more missions with aerospace prime Northrop Grumman, another major provider of resupply services to the ISS.

NASA awarded both SpaceX and Northrop with the resupply contracts in 2016, for services through 2024, reports TechCrunch.

Sierra Nevada Corporation was the third chosen supplier. CRS-2 guaranteed a minimum of six missions for each supplier, with the option for NASA to order additional missions as needed.

The maximum potential value of all three contracts is $14 billion, though the end cost to NASA will depend on the number of orders, the agency said.

This order brings the total number of missions under CRS-2 to 32, with 14 missions to Northrop, 15 to SpaceX, and three to Sierra.

By now, SpaceX is very familiar with these flights. The company completed 20 supply missions under a previous CRS contract, CRS-1.

According to NASA’s inspector general, the total payment to SpaceX for those missions was $3.04 billion, or around $152 million permission.

SpaceX uses its cargo Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket to furnish the ISS with supplies and has done so since it conducted the first resupply mission to the station in 2012.

After departing Earth, the Dragon rendezvous with the ISS and autonomously dock at the station.

Apple alarmed at allowing 3rd-party app stores under new EU law

0

The upcoming European Union (EU) digital law has alarmed Apple as the tech giant would be forced to allow users to install apps from outside the App Store.

In addition to allowing third-party stores, the Digital Markets Act (DMA) would also force Apple to allow users to install apps from third-party sources (also called sideloading), along with allowing developers to use the App Store without using Apple’s payment systems.

Apple told The Verge that “some provisions of the DMA will create unnecessary privacy and security vulnerabilities for our users while others will prohibit us from charging for intellectual property in which we invest a great deal”.

According to European Commission spokesperson Johannes Bahrke, the owner of a smartphone should have the freedom to choose how to use it.

“This freedom includes being able to opt for alternative sources of apps on your smartphone. If a user so chooses, the DMA would allow a smartphone owner to also opt for other safe app stores,” he added.

The DMA could come into force as early as October this year.

Apple has always criticized sideloading on the iPhone.

“Allowing sideloading would degrade the security of the iOS platform and expose users to serious security risks not only on third-party app stores but also on the App Store,” according to the company.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has argued that sideloading would “destroy the security of the iPhone”.

In sweeping reforms to limit the market powers of Big Tech, the EU has unveiled a new digital act that will allow smaller firms to compete with US-based tech giants.

The EU lawmakers agreed that the largest messaging services (such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or Apple iMessage) will have to open up and interoperate with smaller messaging platforms if they so request.

To date, the EU has tackled antitrust issues on a case-by-case basis, but the DMA is aimed at introducing sweeping reforms that will address the whole digital market.

World Cup qualifiers: Messi helps Argentina to 3-0 win over Venezuela

0

Lionel Messi scored his 81st international goal as Argentina cruised to a 3-0 home win over Venezuela in their World Cup qualifier here.

Nico Gonzalez opened the scoring on Friday in the 35th minute at La Bombonera with a sliding first-time finish on Rodrigo de Paul’s cross.

Substitute Angel Di Maria made it 2-0 with a superb chipped effort from the edge of the box after spotting goalkeeper Wuilker Farinez off his line.

Di Maria then turned provider with a lofted cross that Messi controlled with his chest before poking a shot past Farinez with his weaker right foot, reports Xinhua.

The 34-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward has now scored 81 times in 159 appearances for his country.

Argentina, who have already qualified for the World Cup in Qatar later this year, remains second in the 10-team South American zone standings with 38 points from 16 matches, four points behind leaders Brazil. Venezuela is last with 10 points.

Argentina will meet Ecuador in Quito in the last round of South America’s World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday while Venezuela will host Colombia.

Petrol, diesel prices raised again

0

State-owned oil marketing companies (OMC) on Saturday raised petrol and diesel prices for the fourth time this week.

These prices were revised for the very first time on Tuesday, March 22, after a gap of more than four months.

Accordingly, the increase in selling price which includes state levies, central excise, and cess amongst others, came days after crude oil prices saw an astronomical rise due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

In New Delhi, the price of petrol and diesel was increased again by 80 paise per liter.

As per pump prices, petrol now costs Rs 98.61 per liter and diesel Rs 89.87 per liter in the national capital.

On Friday, petrol prices were increased to Rs 97.81 per liter and diesel Rs 89.07 per liter in Delhi.

In the financial capital Mumbai, prices were hiked to Rs 113.35 per liter for petrol and diesel to Rs 97.55 per liter.

Besides, the prices of both the transport fuels were raised in Kolkata. The petrol prices rose to Rs 108.01 and diesel to Rs 93.01 per liter.

In Chennai too, they were increased. Petrol there now costs Rs 104.43 and diesel Rs 94.47 per liter.

Till Tuesday, fuel prices were steady since November 2021 when the Centre reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 per liter, respectively.

The OMCs revised the transportation fuel cost based on various factors such as rupee to US dollar exchange rate, cost of crude oil, and demand of fuel amongst others.

Resultantly, the final price includes excise duty, value-added tax, and dealer’s commission.

It was widely expected that the OMCs will revise the current prices due to high crude oil costs.

Lately, crude oil prices have been volatile surging by nearly 35-40 percent on fear of tight supplies.

Furthermore, it is feared that current sanctions against Russia will curtail more global supplies and stifle growth.

The crude oil price range is a cause of concern for India as it may ultimately add Rs 15-Rs 25 in petrol and diesel selling prices.

At present, India imports nearly 85 percent of its crude oil requirements.

Corporate tax reduction helped economy: FM

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said that corporate tax reduction has helped the economy.

Replying to the debate on the Finance Bill, the minister told the Lok Sabha that corporate tax collections stood at Rs 7.3 lakh crore so far this fiscal.

Besides, Sitharaman pointed out that the Central government did not increase taxes last year or this year.

She cited that 32 countries like Germany, France, Canada, UK among others increased taxes.

The Minister said that this budget has not burdened the public but yet put the money where the multiplier would be maximum where infra creation of assets will happen.

To sustain a high growth rate, the Centre has earmarked a massive budgetary outlay of Rs 7.50 lakh crore for FY23.

Furthermore, she said that taxpayers’ numbers have increased to 9.1 crores from 5 crores a few years ago.

The Lok Sabha on Friday approved the Finance Bill, thereby completing the budgetary exercise for fiscal year FY23.

The Bill was approved in the lower house by a voice vote, after 39 official amendments, moved by Sitharaman, were accepted.

Miami Open: Gauff takes revenge on Wang Qiang, Rogers upsets Ostapenko

0

Coco Gauff of the United States exacted sweet revenge against China’s Wang Qiang while another American player, Shelby Rogers stunned Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia in the opening round matches at the Miami Open here.

Gauff and Ostapenko opened their campaigns in Miami on Friday against opponents to whom they had lost this year but came away with contrasting results.

Gauff, no.14 seed here, reversed her Australian Open loss to Wang Qiang to defeat the qualifier 7-5, 6-4, but No.10 seed Ostapenko was stunned by Shelby Rogers 6-3, 7-6(0) for the second tournament in a row.

In other matches on Friday, Second seed Iga Swiatek of Poland remained on course to become World No 1 as she defeated Swiss Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 6-0; no. 12 seed Victoria Azarenka defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(5) while fifth seed Paula Badosa of Spain got the better of Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic 7-5, 7-5.

Czech star Petra Kvitova too advanced to the Round of 32 with a 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 win against Clara Burel of France while Brazil’s World No 62 Beatriz Haddad Maia upset No. 4 seed Maria Sakkari of Greece 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to reach the second round.

Gauff had previously defeated Wang twice on clay last year and notched her first hard-court victory over the former World No.12 in 1 hour and 39 minutes to reach the third round of Miami for the first time. She will next face another Chinese player, Zhang Shuai, who routed No.24 seed Sorana Cirstea 6-1, 6-1 in only 53 minutes.

Gauff was both more consistent and more aggressive than Wang throughout the match, firing 29 winners to her opponent’s 16. The 18-year-old American gained the first break of each set, leading 5-2 in the first and 5-3 in the second, but needed all of her resilience after Wang prevented her from serving either out. according to a report on WTA Tour’s official website.

At the end of the day, solid serving as the bedrock of Gauff’s win. She posted a 72% first serve percentage and landed six aces. But it was her defensive skills that gave her the edge in the match’s tightest moments, with a series of phenomenal passing shots in the second set drawing gasps from the crowd.

Before this month, Rogers had yet to beat Ostapenko in three meetings, though she had held a match point over the Latvian at Charleston 2019. Rogers claimed her first win in their rivalry 7-5, 7-6(7) in the second round of Indian Wells two weeks ago, and reprised the outcome at the same stage of Miami in 1 hour and 34 minutes. The result was her 22nd career victory against a Top 20 player.

The American slammed down a remarkable 15 aces in total. Three came in one game to take a 4-3 lead, two more helped her survive four deuces to serve out the first set and the final trio arrived in an immaculate second-set tiebreak whitewash.

Elsewhere, No.17 seed Elena Rybakina claimed her first-ever win in Miami 6-4, 7-5 over Elena-Gabriela Ruse. The Kazakh came from 3-0 down in the second set to defeat the Romanian in a first-time encounter.

RS Secretariat to screen ‘Bahubali: The Beginning’ on April 1

Amid the controversy on the recently released film “The Kashmir Files”, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat Recreation Club has arranged a special screening of the Telugu film “Bahubali: The Beginning”, for all members on April 1 at the Films Division Auditorium, here in Mahadev Road.

According to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, the move came after the suggestion from the Hindi Salahkar Samiti of the Upper House to encourage the linguistic exchange among the Hindi speaking and other language-speaking people and the Members have been requested to watch this movie. The subtitles of the film are in English.

In a parliamentary party meeting of the BJP held on March 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the MPs to watch the newly released film, The Kashmir Files.

“The Kashmir Files is a very good movie. All of you should watch it. More such movies should be made,” Modi said.

“The Kashmir Files” is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from the Kashmir Valley in the 1990s, and endorsing the film, Modi said that there was an effort underway to prevent the truth from being told.

“History has to be presented in the right context. Just as books, poetry, and literature play a role in this, films can do so too,” he said.

Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their demand to make “The Kashmir Files” tax-free in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said the BJP should ask the film’s director Vivek Agnihotri to upload it on YouTube, and everyone will see it for free.

The Delhi BJP MLAs on Wednesday demanded during the ongoing assembly session to make “The Kashmir Files” tax-free.

Based on ‘RRR’ advance bookings, analysts say it’ll make Rs 600-700 cr

Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’, starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, has created a storm by raking in Rs. 30 crores in domestic advance bookings for Day 1.

‘RRR’ marks Rajamouli’s comeback after a hiatus of five years. The international cast of the Telugu-language epic period action drama includes Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson, Olivia Morris, and Shriya Saran.

Mentioning the phenomenal advance booking, trade analyst Karan Taurani of Elara Capital said: “The advance that you are talking about is domestic. I think the opening will be close to more than Rs 100 crore; in the Hindi belt it will be somewhere between Rs 50 crore and Rs 70 crore.”

PVR CEO Gautam Dutta, whose company has a tie-up with ‘RRR’, sounds ecstatic about the response the film is getting. Dutta said: “RRR is a mega-blockbuster that has generated a positive response from audiences across regions. As movie buffs were eagerly awaiting its release, we opened advance bookings from Wednesday and we received a phenomenal response.”

He added: “The movie is being released in the IMAX 3D format, which has ensured that it runs to packed houses by magnifying the movie’s special effects. We have aligned shows as early as 8.00 a.m. and are drawing strong occupancies as we do not want movie lovers to miss out on catching up on the excitement of the big screen.”

‘RRR’ hits the big screen not much after the release of Vivek Agnihotri’s much-talked-about film, ‘The Kashmir Files’. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said the film has collected Rs 207.33 crore, showing a 13.08 percent growth in Week 2.

Will ‘RRR’ surpass the collection notched up by ‘The Kashmir Files’? Taurani said: “I don’t think it will surpass ‘The Kashmir Files’ in the Hindi belt, but yeah, on a pan-India basis, it should do at least Rs 600-700 crore at the box office.”

Dutta said Rajamouli’s movies have strong production values and are not constrained by a regional appeal because they are ‘Indian’ films that resonate with all kinds of audience segments due to their nationalistic narrative.

“The movie has been released in five languages — Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam — and is expected to do well across the country,” Dutta predicted. PVR has a special association with the movie due to an exclusive partnership with the producers for its promotion.

Will ‘RRR’ come anywhere near the all-time record box office pickings of the two ‘Baahubali’ films, which were also made by Rajamouli? Adarsh did not think so.

Also, with ‘KGF 2’ scheduled to be released three weeks after ‘RRR’, Rajamouli’s epic won’t get much exclusive run time. Nonetheless, ‘RRR’ will keep the cash counters busy at the cinemas, which have been on a high after ‘The Kashmir Files’ picked up phenomenally.

Da Silva leads West Indies fightback in series decider against England

0

Joshua Da Silva reached a hard-earned half-century to help hosts West Indies take a 28-run lead with two wickets in hand at the end of the second day of the third Test against England.

With Da Silva batting on 54 off 152 balls, with Kemar Roach on 25 at stumps as West Indies reached 232/8 after restricting England to 204 in their first innings on a topsy-turvy second day on Friday.

West Indies had looked in serious trouble after losing six wickets for 45 runs on either side of lunch, with Chris Woakes picking up three in an excellent spell.

But, just as England had done on day one, the West Indies tail bailed out the recognized batters, as Kyle Mayers (28), Alzarri Joseph (28), Roach, and Da Silva eked out every run in the second half of the day to overhaul the tourists’ first-innings total.

England’s opening spell on the morning of day two offered plenty of run-scoring opportunities for the West Indian openers, as the seam attack struggled to find their line, with Craig Overton and Woakes particularly wayward first up.

The opening pair built a 50-run stand before Ben Stokes struck, claiming the crucial wicket of Barbados-hero Kraigg Brathwaite. A skiddy ball on the back of a length kept low and struck Brathwaite so straight in-front that the captain turned and walked off with England barely needing to muster an appeal, the ICC reported on its official website.

The loss of the skipper for 17 put West Indies in a position they had not been in since Antigua, requiring the remainder of the top order to build a platform. And they were not able to do so, with Shamarh Brooks (13) and John Campbell (35) both dismissed before lunch to Saqib Mahmood and Overton respectively.

Woakes, who had struggled to make an impact in his role as leader of the attack on tour, found a hot-streak after lunch as the ball grew softer, bouncing out Nkrumah Bonner (4) and Jason Holder (0) in the same over to leave West Indies reeling on 82/5. And Woakes was in the wickets again when he trapped Jermaine Blackwood in front for 18.

But West Indies’ team selection for this decisive third Test had seen Kyle Mayers added as a batting all-rounder to strengthen the order, and he partially fulfilled his role with a sprightly 28 to take the home side into triple figures as Da Silva cast anchor at the other end.

The first day in Grenada had seen England’s lower-order bail the batters out with a fine rearguard effort, and the same scenario unfolded on day two, as Da Silva and Alzarri Joseph picked up where Mayers had left off to inch towards first-innings parity.

Joseph was removed for a fine 28 by an Overton bumper, ending a 49-run partnership and giving England hope of emerging with a first-innings lead.

But Roach bedded in alongside Da Silva through the evening session as they built the biggest partnership of the innings for the ninth wicket, with both unbeaten at the close.

Brief scores:

England 204 v West Indies 232/8 in 86 overs (Joshua Da Silva 54*, Kemar Roach 25*, John Campbell 35; Chris Woakes 3/48, Craig Overton 2/71, Ben Stokes 2/40).

He also stressed that the Congress party had taken up padayatra (protest foot march) demanding speedy implementation of the Mekedatu project.

On March 24, Karnataka’s Legislative Assembly voted unanimously in favor of the resolution moved by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Along with condemning Tamil Nadu for opposing the Mekedatu project, the resolution calls for putting pressure on the Central government for necessary environment clearance for the project.

The resolution noted that the project will not harm Tamil Nadu and would help stabilize the allocation of 24 tmc of water which includes 4.75 tmc for drinking water purposes of Bengaluru.

The resolution points out that Tamil Nadu is taking up projects illegally and unilaterally, without consulting Karnataka.

Indian equities running a marathon; Sensex doubled despite Covid-led shock

India’s equity market has not looked back ever since the sharp correction witnessed in the initial 21 days of stringent nationwide lockdown imposed in late March 2020 to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

The benchmark Sensex index fell from over 41,000 points to around 27,000 points by early April 2020. But since April 2020, it has consistently risen to pare its sharp losses to reach the pre-pandemic levels by October 2020.

And at present, the Sensex is hovering around the 58,000-point mark after falling from a 52-week high of over 62,000 points it touched before the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out.

Many countries, including India, pump in stimulus packages that found their way to various markets and citizens, in turn buoying the economy. These measures supported the equity markets to touch new highs.

India announced ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ packages in several phases during the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, PLI schemes for various critical sectors too have pumped fuel to the markets.

Besides, the trend of a large number of investors shifting towards the equity market in hopes of better returns as compared to other investment instruments is also likely to have supported the indices.

The total number of registered investors on BSE had earlier this month reached a landmark of 10 crores. This gives an indication of the confidence of the investors.

Opening of new dematerialized accounts, month-wise, on an average increased seven-fold since FY20. In FY20, the average new Demat account was at 4 lakh per month, which increased to 12 lakh in FY21. In FY22, till the month of November, it rose to around 29 lakh, which is more than seven times as against FY20, SEBI Chairman Ajay Tyagi had said.

Experts believe that internet technology and mobile-based investing platforms are key enablers in the democratization of the equity market culture among the masses in India.

“The market bottomed out on March 23, 2020, and began moving northwards; most businesses were shuttered, and retail investors began to show interest in the capital market,” said Likhita Chepa, Senior Research Analyst, CapitalVia Global Research.

“The MF industry reached almost Rs 21,000 crore in monthly SIPs, and these funds are now flowing into the Indian capital market. During the last two years, retail participation has increased phenomenally, which is the best thing that has happened since Covid,” Chepa added.

Chepa also said that following the reopening, the government launched a slew of PLI schemes for a variety of industries, assisting local manufacturers in scaling up their operations and boosting mid and small-cap stocks.

According to Devarsh Vakil, Deputy Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities: “Liquidity is like mother’s milk to a bull market. Unconventional monetary policies and various stimulus packages announced helped the market scale newer peaks.

“Many investors were looking to sort out their asset allocation plan, and due to the lockdown, they got an opportunity to open investment accounts and invest in equity markets. We believe the financialization of savings is a long-term sustainable trend, and it will continue to accentuate.”

Ajit Mishra, VP-Research, Religare Broking, said: “The markets witnessed a sharp correction in March, mainly due to the uncertainty around the severity of the Covid pandemic.

“However, as time passed by, more information on the virus and eventually the vaccination calmed investors’ nerves. Also, the continuous support from the government and central bank remained instrumental in leading the recovery.”
