Samsung may launch third foldable this year

0

Samsung already has two foldable smartphones lineup: Galaxy Z Fold as Galaxy Z Flip and now a new report has claimed that there might be a third foldable in the pipeline.

As per GSMArena, three codenames for foldable are being circulated – B4, Q4, and N4.

Since last year’s names for the Z Flip3 and the Z Fold3 were B3 and Q3, it’s probably safe to assume that the N4 codename belongs to an entirely different foldable handset.

Samsung recently patented a new Galaxy smartphone with a sideways folding display.

According to the patent’s drawings, there is a triple-camera setup and LED flash. The design features a hinge on the lower left-hand side, as well as three magnets to keep the display stuck to the back cover.

The smartphone may come with a two-part battery, and the folding display would be made of Samsung’s UTG (Ultra Thin Glass), the same protective layer that’s used on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3.

The patent describes the technology that is needed to make a transparent smartphone and can even be used in other electronic gadgets as well, including TVs, monitors, laptops, and gaming consoles.

According to the report, the device seen in the patent has narrow bezels and a large transparent screen, and an OLED panel is apparently used.

Samsung has shipped four times more foldable devices in 2021 than last year, exceeding the three-fold market growth that analysts expected.

According to the company, the consumer enthusiasm for Samsung foldable is exemplified by the success of the Galaxy Z series.

TN beefs up security along coast as refugees land from Sri Lanka

0

The elite ‘Q’ branch of the Tamil Nadu Police has increased security across the coastal areas of the state following the possibility of a huge refugee influx from Sri Lanka in view of the internal crisis in the island nation.

A total of 16 refugees, including children, have landed in the state after being rescued by the Indian Coast Guard and Tamil Nadu Marine Police.

The refugees were produced before a magistrate court which sentenced three adults from the first batch of six Sri Lankan refugees for 15 days of judicial custody. The first batch of Sri Lankan refugees included R. Gajendran (24), his wife Mary Clary (23), their four-month-old son, Nishanth, Duri (28), and her children, Esther (9) and Moses (6).

The court allowed Nishanth and Moses to stay with their mothers while Esther (9) was handed over to her grandmother who is in the Sri Lankan refugee camp at Vellore.

The second group of 10 refugees who reached the shores of India on Tuesday late at night was identified as Sivarethnam (30), his wife Mery Yalini (27), their children, Reshalini (8) and Sindhuja (5), Seythu Mohammed (45), his wife Sivasankankathi (33), and their children, Samila (17), Mujini (15), Mohammed (13) and Bhoomika(8).

All of them are from the Vavuniya district of Sri Lanka and the state government has decided to keep them at the Mandapam refugee camp at Rameswaram.

Jacintha Lazarus, Commissioner for Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils while speaking to IANS said, “We have asked the authorities to keep such people at Rameswaram camp and to conduct inquiries at the camp itself.”

It may be recalled that during the Civil war in Sri Lanka more than 1,00,000 people reached India, especially in Tamil Nadu. They are lodged in 107 refugee camps across the state.

The Tamil Nadu Police along with the Indian Coast Guard have beefed up the security at the coastal line to prevent the huge refugee influx and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin has already written to the Government of India regarding the possible crisis.

The state government has also issued special advisories to Tamil Nadu fishermen to immediately inform the authorities if they spot any illegal movement in the sea.

No obstacles to screening of ‘James’: K’taka CM

Countering the allegations leveled by a section of Congress leaders, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday that there are no hurdles to the screening of the Kannada movie ‘James’ starring late superstar Puneet Rajkumar.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Bommai said that he has discussed the matter with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce.

“I have spoken to the Film Chamber in this regard. If there is any trouble with the screening of ‘James’, the concerned producers and theaters have the power to sort it out. I have spoken to actor Shivarajkumar too. I have requested him to bring it to my notice or to the notice of the Film Chamber if they face any problem. They too have agreed.”

The controversy was triggered on Tuesday after Congress leader Siddaramaiah alleged that ‘James’, which released on March 17, was being nudged off theatre screens in the state to make way for ‘The Kashmir Files’ at the behest of some BJP leaders.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Assembly session, Siddaramaiah had alleged that the producer of ‘James’ had confided in him about the issue.

“Since the producers of ‘James’ has booked theatres by paying advance amounts, forcing the theatres to screen ‘The Kashmir Files’ is nothing but harassment,” Siddaramaiah had told mediapersons.

On Wednesday, state Congress chief D.K. Shivakumar too repeated the charges.

Dismissing the allegations, Bommai said, “Congress leaders have stooped to the level of politicking even on screening of cinemas.”

‘James’ is Puneeth Rajkumar’s last film as an actor. The highly-popular actor and the youngest son of thespian Rajkumar died of cardiac arrest in October last year.

Osaka defeats Sharma in Miami, sets up clash with Kerber

0

Japan’s Naomi Osaka delivered a composed and controlled performance to defeat Astra Sharma of Australia 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the Miami Open, advancing in 1 hour and 20 minutes on Wednesday.

It was Osaka’s 50th career WTA 1000 win and sets up a second-round clash against another former World No.1, No.13 seed Angelique Kerber. Osaka claimed her first career Top 10 win over Kerber at the 2017 US Open, ending the German’s title defence in the first round, but has lost all four of their subsequent matches.

Two weeks ago, Osaka had departed Indian Wells in tears after being rattled by a heckler during her 6-0, 6-4 second-round loss to Veronika Kudermetova. After her win over Sharma, she said she was keen to put that behind her.

“I didn’t want to let anything bother me, no matter what happened,” Osaka said. “The last match I played was not the greatest memory for me. I wanted to prove that I could come back out here and compete, and no matter if I won or lost, to just know that I had the best attitude I could.”

Osaka was utterly dominant on serve, losing just two points behind her first delivery and six behind her second. And though her break point conversion rate was subpar as she took just two of her 11 opportunities, she did not let this frustrate her.

Having gained an early break in each set, Osaka was repeatedly stymied in her attempts to move up a double break. Sharma faced breakpoints in every service game in the first set but escaped 15-40 holes three times. In the second set, the Australian also escaped three match points while serving to stay in the match.

But Osaka responded to all of these missed chances by simply posting rapid-fire service holds to maintain her advantage. Sharma managed to come up with two of the best shots of the match in the second set, a pair of remarkable forehand gets, but in the main, it was Osaka who had the edge in terms of power and angles in baseline rallies.

UP Board examinations begin today for 52L students

Around 52 lakh students are taking the Class 10 and Class 12 UP Board examination from Thursday.

Of these, 27.8 lakh students will appear for Class 10 and 24.1 lakh for Class 12. The exams will be held at 8,373 centers across the state.

The UP Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) has identified 254 centers as ‘highly-sensitive’ and 861 centers as ‘sensitive’ in view of vulnerability for cheating.

To prevent mass cheating in the UP board exams, the government has set up a state-level ‘monitoring and control room’ for CCTV surveillance and to monitor voice recordings.

About 2.9 lakh CCTV cameras have been installed at 8,373 centers and 75 district control rooms (each in one district).

Over 2.7 lakh invigilators have been put on duty.

Chief Secretary D.S. Mishra said that strict action will be taken against those spreading fake news during the examinations.

Rape even by husband is rape: Karnataka HC

0

Equating sexual assault by a husband on his wife with rape, the Karnataka high court (HC) has refused to quash proceedings against a man accused of alleged rape by his wife.

“A man is a man; an act is an act; rape is a rape, be it performed by a man, the ‘husband’, on the woman, ‘wife’,” said Justice M. Nagaprasanna on Wednesday.

The single-judge bench of the Karnataka HC was hearing a case filed by a woman against her husband for treating her as a ‘sex slave’ ever since they were married. The husband has been accused of forcing his wife into unnatural sex in the presence of their daughter too.

Referring to exceptions in IPC Section 375 that says “Sexual intercourse or sexual acts by a man with his own wife, the wife not being under 15 years of age, is not rape,” Justice Nagaprasanna said, exempting a husband for his acts, destroys the Right to Equality which is the soul of the Constitution.

Terming the exception as regressive, the court put the onus of amending this provision of IPC Section 376, on the legislature.

Even though the Justice J.S. Verma Committee, appointed by the Union government, had recommended deleting the exception of marital rape, the subsequent amendment only replaced the word ‘rape’ with ‘sexual assault’ in IPC section 375, the Judge added.

2022 Arctic winter sea ice 10th-lowest on record: NASA

0

Arctic sea ice appeared to have hit its annual maximum extent on February 25 after growing through the fall and winter – the 10th-lowest in the satellite record maintained by the National Snow and Ice Data Center, one of NASA’s Distributed Active Archive Centres.

The Arctic sea ice extent peaked at 14.88 million square kilometers on February 25 – earlier than usual – and was roughly 770,000 square kilometers below the 1981-2010 average maximum. This maximum ties with 2015 as the third earliest on record.

NASA’s analysis also shows the Arctic is warming about three times faster than other regions.

Sea ice waxes and wanes with the seasons every year. In the Arctic, it reaches its maximum extent around March after growing through the colder months and shrinks to its minimum extent in September after melting through the warmer months. In the Southern Hemisphere, Antarctic sea ice follows an opposite cycle, NASA said.

To estimate sea ice extent, satellite sensors gather sea ice data that are processed into daily images, each image grid cell spanning an area of roughly 25 kilometers by 25 kilometers. Scientists then use these images to estimate the extent of the ocean where sea ice covers at least 15 percent of the water.

Since satellites began reliably tracking sea ice in 1979, maximum extents in the Arctic have declined at a pace of about 13 percent per decade, with minimum extents declining at about 2.7 percent per decade. These trends are linked to warming caused by human activities such as emitting carbon dioxide, which traps heat in the atmosphere and causes temperatures to rise.

NASA’s analysis follows reports earlier this week that both the Earth’s poles – Arctic and Antarctic – are undergoing ‘freakish’ heat waves – with parts of the Arctic more than 30 degrees Celsius warmer than average.

The space agency confirmed that Antarctic sea ice also dropped to a record-low minimum extent in February. But unlike in the Arctic, this sea ice has shown irregular ups and downs mainly because of the geographical features that surround it. Winds and ocean currents specifically linked to the Southern Ocean and Antarctica have a strong influence on sea ice extent.

Sea ice in the Arctic is surrounded by land, whereas sea ice in the Antarctic is surrounded only by the ocean and can thus spread out more freely. Overall, the Antarctic sea ice record shows a slightly upward – but nearly flat – trend or increase.

Gains in Antarctic sea ice are not large enough to offset the losses of the Arctic. The ice in both regions helps regulate global temperatures. Even if Antarctica gains balanced sea ice levels globally, Arctic sea ice losses could still contribute to further regional and global warming, the analysis showed.

Petition demanding Switzerland to expel Putin’s ‘lover’ hits 63,000 signatures

0

A petition demanding that Switzerland expel Vladimir Putin’s rumored lover out of their country has hit more than 63,000 signatures, Daily Mail reported.

Olympic gymnast Alina Kabaeva, 38, is believed to have been sent to a private chalet in Switzerland earlier this month as Putin continues to wage war in Ukraine.

Kabaeva is widely believed to be the Russian strongman’s mistress and mother to four of Putin’s children whom he has never officially recognized.

A petition, launched by citizens in Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine two weeks ago, has called for Swiss authorities to kick Kabaeva out of Switzerland and deport her back to Russia.

The appeal, which describes Kabaeva as the ‘favorite wife of the delusional dictator and war criminal Putin’, has since reached over 63,000 signatures, Daily Mail reported.

“It’s time you reunite Eva Braun with her Fuhrer,” the strongly-worded petition said.

“Despite the current war, Switzerland continues to host an accomplice of Putin’s regime.”

The West has so far not sanctioned Kabaeva, who as well as being Putin’s rumored secret partner is also chairperson of the board of directors at National Media Group – a major Kremlin-obedient TV and newspaper behemoth – with a salary of almost £8 million a year.

The pair have been pictured together on several occasions, and investigations by the Anti-Corruption Foundation, set up by jailed Putin opponent Alexei Navalny, revealed several Russian oligarchs have inexplicably bestowed gifts of property, money, and other assets upon Kabaeva’s family, the report said.

It is feared that Putin’s carefully hidden assets may mean Kabaeva and her family have been able to escape the tough sanctions announced by the Swiss Federal Council in February.

IPL 2022: Cummins, Finch to miss first five matches for Kolkata Knight Riders, says David Hussey

0

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) chief mentor David Hussey on Wednesday confirmed that Australia pacer Pat Cummins and white-ball skipper Aaron Finch will be unavailable for the first five matches of IPL 2022 due to the white-ball series against Pakistan.

In their first five matches, Kolkata will be playing against Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals.

“You want your best players available. But international cricket should be the para-limit. Every cricketer should want to play international cricket for their countries and they have commitments that way. I think they (Cummins and Finch) will miss the first five games but they will be cricket fit and cricket ready and hit the ground running. They are both quality people and they will fit into the dressing room perfectly well,” said Hussey in a virtual press conference.

Talking about new Kolkata captain Shreyas Iyer who joined the side after the franchise spent INR 12.25 crore in the mega auction, Hussey called him ‘a born leader’. “Shreyas is a born leader, just the way he walks out and commands airspace. He has got all the respect of all the players as it is. Knowing Pat very well, he’ll be a good deputy, a good leader amongst the group, and will also lead from the front.”

“The way Shreyas has captained in the past for Delhi, he has got a very good cricket brain. He has got a nice vision of how we want to play the game and I think he is going to express himself very well. It’s a very smart move from Brendon (McCullum) and the management from KKR.”

Asked if Kolkata lacked a prominent player in the wicket-keeping department, Hussey mentioned Saurashtra wicketkeeper-batter Sheldon Jackson and England’s Sam Billings as the options. “We have Sheldon Jackson, who is a wonderful wicket-keeper and works hard for his game. He is also a wonderful striker of the cricket ball and dominates in the Ranji Trophy and he has been with the team for a few years now. I think he is going to set up the tournament alight.”

“Also, we have got Sam Billings. He is also a quality keeper, has played Test cricket for England, and has kept wickets for England in short-form of cricket. I think we are very well versed in the wicket-keeping department and I think we have a well-balanced squad.”

Hussey also backed Ajinkya Rahane to come good for Kolkata in IPL 2022, especially after a lean run of form in Tests for India and being left out from the Test series against Sri Lanka in March. “Rahane is a class player. He’s been a class player for over a decade for Indian cricket; he’s dominated for the Rajasthan Royals. I think he’s got at least 5 to 10 years of international cricket left in him. He’s a class player.”

“He might not have scored the runs he wants to just recently, but the way he is training and the way he works on his game, he’s going to score his runs and is going to dominate in the IPL. But also, he’s a leader amongst the group as well. So not just on-field performances, but off-field, helping all the youngsters sort of gel. He’s just a quality human being and I am happy that he’s part of our team.”

Hussey signed off by saying that the team management will be keeping an eye on managing injuries and workload throughout the tournament. “Injuries throughout the tournament can be tough and can have a huge impact on any team. So, it is up to the support staff to really recognize if anyone is struggling injury-wise, fitness-wise or fatigue-wise and sort of getting on the same page as them. If they need rest, we are going to work on that with Brendon and our fitness trainers and try to keep them fresh throughout the tournament.”

I-League: Neroca FC looking to continue unbeaten run against motivated Sudeva Delhi

0

After suffering back-to-back defeats, Sudeva Delhi FC will be looking to get back on track against the in-form and unbeaten Neroca FC when they meet in the I-League 2022 at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium here on Thursday.

Sudeva Delhi FC head coach, Mehrajuddin Wadoo is looking to keep the players motivated ahead of a crucial match. “In the last two matches, we had to suffer two narrow defeats. I have no complaints against them. They played very well. Unfortunately, the results didn’t come in our favor. However, we are working very hard for results. It will be an important game for us and we will be aiming to collect all three points,” the coach said.

Young midfielder Akbar Khan accompanied the coach in the pre-match press conference. “We are disappointed with the results of the last few games, but we are working hard as a team. We have made a few mistakes. Our aim is to reduce them and get a victory over Neroca FC who are playing well recently,” he added.

Mehrajuddin Wadoo also said that from now on his team needs to approach each game as a final. “Obviously, Neroca FC is a very good team. They are unbeaten so far. Their performance shows where they stand currently. However, we have to execute our plans and focus on developing other players,” the coach concluded.

On the other hand, Neroca FC head coach Khogen Singh wants to keep the momentum in the upcoming matches. “In the last two matches, we had to settle for draws against very good teams. We are playing well but conceding goals in the closing minutes. We have to make sure that we finish the game very well,” the head coach mentioned.

Goalkeeper Prateek Kumar Singh is also taking positives from the last few matches. “We have a good mood in the camp. Players are helping each other to get better. We want to carry on our good performances and win matches,” he added.

Although the opponents are in poor form coming into the match, Neroca FC’s head coach is aware of the threats that Sudeva Delhi possesses. “They are not in good form but they are playing well. They will also be motivated to get the win. So, we have to avoid unnecessary mistakes. We have to create chances and finish the game to get all three points,” he concluded.

“How many matches he will miss depends on when he comes in. Right now, he will miss the first game. Even if he comes tomorrow, he will not be able to play the first game. IPL 2022: Dhoni gave me a lot of life lessons: Subhranshu Senapati

0

Chennai Super Kings’ batter Subhranshu Senapati recalled his first interaction with captain MS Dhoni during the pre-season camp in Surat, saying the four-time league-winning captain gave him a lot of life lessons.

“He gave me a lot of life lessons drawing from his own personal experiences in cricket. It was just incredible to sit across from him and soak it all in. He is one of the greatest cricketers of all time and I feel extremely lucky that I get to pick his brains every day,” Senapati said.

“I met MS Dhoni for the first time on my first day of practice after serving a quarantine period. I introduced myself to all the players while getting on the team bus. Mahi Bhai was the last to get on. I had prepared a lot of things to say to him but words failed to come out of my mouth when he came in front of me. I could just manage to tell him my name before he went to his seat at the back of the bus,” Senapati was quoted as saying by Sambad English.

“My interactions with him picked up pace as practice continued. He is also a great footballer which I learned after playing with him. During net sessions, I could see from the corner of my eye that he was observing me every day,” he added.

Senapati recalled the auction day, where he was with the Odisha Ranji Trophy team in quarantine in Ahmedabad.

“The funniest thing happened with my family in Keonjhar. They were ecstatic for me and were celebrating among themselves but within 10 minutes of my signing, mediapersons completely surrounded our house. My family was shocked as this is not something that they had ever experienced in life. I had never expected to see my mother speaking to journalists standing in front of cameras. I have an older sister who is a teacher like my father and a younger brother who is playing district-level cricket. They were all very happy and I am glad that I could put smiles on their faces,” he said.

Mumbai court rejects Salman Khan’s plea for gag on NRI neighbour

0

A Mumbai court on Wednesday rejected a notice of motion filed by Bollywood megastar Salman Khan seeking a gag order to restrain his NRI neighbor from the US, Ketan R. Kakkad from posting any content on social media.

In the notice of motion, Salman had sought an injunction barring Kakkad from posting or uploading any content about the alleged violations of laws being committed at the actor’s 100-acre farmhouse in Panvel, Raigad.

Sessions Judge A. H. Laddhad heard the lawyers of both sides at length at the online and in-person hearings for nearly two months and passed the much-awaited order on Wednesday.

Kakkad’s legal team comprised Abha Singh, Aditya Pratap of Aditya Pratap Law Offices, and Salman’s battery of lawyers including P. D. Ghandy and D.S.K. Legal argued over the matter for several weeks.

Singh and Pratap raised the plea of justification, submitting that there was “substantial truth” in the allegations leveled by Kakkad pointing out how Salman had carried out substantial constructions on his Panvel farmhouse which falls within the Matheran Eco-Sensitive Zone Notification.

In mid-January, a massive row erupted between the two neighbors – Salman and Kakkad – over the latter’s social media comments, sparking huge controversies in Bollywood and political circles – as reported by an interviewer in “Retired NRI, ‘Dabangg’ neighbor Salman Khan lock horns” (January 16).

Salman hit back with a civil defamation suit against Kakkad and dragged in Google YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and other social platform content creators as parties and also sought a gag order to restrain his neighbor from posting objectionable statements till the outcome of the suit.

IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma confirms opening alongside Ishan Kishan

0

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday confirmed that he will be opening the batting with Ishan Kishan in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

He also confirmed that batter Suryakumar Yadav is still recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) from the hairline fracture on the thumb sustained in the T20I series against the West Indies in February.

“I will open the batting. (I have) been doing that in the past, so I am looking forward to opening (the batting) with Ishan (Kishan). Surya is at the NCA at the moment. He is recovering well. He will be here soon. I can’t give you his availability right now; whether he will be there to play the first game or not. But we are trying to get him here as soon as possible once we have the clearance from NCA,” said Sharma in the pre-season virtual press conference organized by the franchise.

Sharma brushed aside suggestions that Mumbai will have an upper hand over other teams in the tournament due to playing matches in their home city. Mumbai last played a match in their home city in May 2019, where they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium to march into the playoffs and eventually win the trophy.

“It’s a relatively new team, lots of new guys have come into the team. I don’t believe in added advantage because 70-80% of the squad hasn’t played in Mumbai before. So, there is no such thing as an added advantage. Only myself, Surya, Pollard, Ishan, and Bumrah have played in Mumbai a lot and others have not played. We all are playing in Mumbai after two years and did not play a single game here. In fact, other franchises have played in Mumbai last year (2021, first half); we didn’t get to play. So, there is no home advantage.”

Sharma further felt that the style of Mumbai’s preparation won’t change with new teams Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans entering the IPL fold this season onwards and pointed towards the 2022 edition having the same format as the 2011 season.

“It’s a format we played in 2011. So, to be honest, nothing changes in terms of planning. You have to play the opposition as simple as that. Some opposition you might play only once and some, two. I don’t think there’s a whole lot you need to change in terms of planning. We just need to be aware that in certain teams you will play only once, you need to be very well-prepared as there’s no coming back and playing against those guys. You just need to plan well against those guys, make sure that all your bases are covered as there’s no second shot at that.”

Sharma welcomed the new rules like running out the batter from the non-striker end being made legal, new batter taking strike despite a crossover, and DRS reviews being increased to two per team. “Look, that rule (mankading) has become legal, so batters will need to pay more attention, when to come out of the crease and when not. It is very simple; the rules have come and we need to follow them.”

“Secondly, I think it is a good rule, the new batsman should face (the ball) if the batsman gets out. For the opposition team, it is important that a bowler is bowling in a good rhythm and he gets a wicket, a new batter faces him, especially when he catches out. Obviously, a new batter comes when he’s bowled or lbw. But when he hits high and is caught out, there won’t be crossover and a new battery will come at the crease. It gives the opposition team a nice opportunity to keep the pressure on.”

“Having two DRS reviews is also a good rule, because the fewer mistakes in the game, the better it is. In international cricket, we play with two DRS, so it should be there in the IPL. It is a good move to bring two DRS by the IPL. Teams will get the chance to use the DRS as per their own way. All three rules are good and them being clarified before the IPL is good to play according to them,” signed off Sharma.

TRS protest at BJP office in Hyderabad triggers tension

Supporters of Telangana’s ruling party TRS on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the state BJP office in Hyderabad triggering tension as the saffron party workers also came out to counter them.

Leaders and workers of various frontal organizations of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) staged a sit-in in front of the BJP office in Nampally to protest against the Centre for misleading the Parliament on reservation for Scheduled Tribes.

Demanding the sacking of Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Er. Bishweswar Tudu, the protesters raised slogans against the BJP government at the Centre.

The BJP workers also came out of the office and tried to counter the TRS men. The two groups almost came to blows but the police intervened to control the situation.

Police detained the TRS men and shifted them to different police stations in the city.

Those detained include TRS student wing president G. Srinivas Yadav, youth wing leader P. Praveen Reddy and tribal leader Rambabu Nayak.

They alleged that the central minister misled the Parliament by stating that no proposal was received from Telangana for increasing the quantum of reservation for Scheduled Tribes (STs).

They said the minister has uttered a lie as the State Legislature passed a Bill in 2017 for increasing the reservations to STs from 6.8 percent to 10 and sent it to the Centre.

The TRS leaders alleged that the Centre’s stand amount to insulting the tribals.

The TRS and ST groups also organized protests at Suryapet and other places on Wednesday. At Suryapet, the protestors, including women, set afire the effigy of the Central government.

The leaders said the Centre’s statement was shocking as the Ministry of Tribal Affairs had written back to the state government that it has no objection to raising the quantum of ST reservation.

They said instead of giving its nod to increase the ST reservation, the Centre misled the Parliament.

The TRS on Wednesday gave a notice for moving a privilege motion in Lok Sabha against Bishweswar Tudu for misleading Lok Sabha while answering a question.
