Twitter introduces ‘Creator Dashboard’ to manage earnings on platform

0

Micro-blogging site Twitter has introduced a new tool for creators called the “Creator Dashboard” to analyze how they make money on the platform.

According to the company, the new tool is designed to help creators analyze how they make money on Twitter and how much they are earning from monetization features.

“Introducing the Creator Dashboard a new way to help you view your earnings & track your Super Follow subscriptions over time, for now, we are testing with some creators on iOS — can’t wait to hear what you think,” the firm said in a statement.

Currently, the feature is available to iOS creators in the US with more than 10,000 followers and is participating in Ticketed Spaces and Super Follows.

The new dashboard can be accessed from the app’s “Monetization” tab.

In addition, Twitter is likely building a tab dedicated to podcasts, as shown in a screenshot posted by reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong.

The image shows a microphone icon in the Twitter app’s bottom menu bar, which appears to lead to a page titled “Podcasts”, The Verge reported on Wednesday.

The screenshot does not show any indication of how podcasts could be displayed on the platform or if it will somehow incorporate Spaces, the platform’s audio-only chat rooms.

Right now, live Spaces are stuffed at the top of Twitter feeds, and it would make sense to organize them into a separate tab.

Samsung working on smartphone with sideways folding display

South Korean tech giant Samsung has patented a new Galaxy smartphone with a sideways folding display.

According to the patent’s drawings, there is a triple-camera setup and LED flash. The design features a hinge on the lower left-hand side, as well as three magnets to keep the display stuck to the back cover, reports Let’s Go Digital.

The smartphone may come with a two-part battery, and the folding display would be made of Samsung’s UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass), the same protective layer that’s used on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3.

Samsung recently patented a new Galaxy smartphone with a futuristic-looking transparent display.

The company filed the patent with the USPTO (the United States Patent and Trademark Office) and the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) and was published last year.

The patent describes the technology that is needed to make a transparent smartphone and can even be used in other electronic gadgets as well, including TVs, monitors, laptops, and gaming consoles.

According to the report, the device seen in the patent has narrow bezels and a large transparent screen, and an OLED panel is apparently used.

Samsung has shipped four times more foldable devices in 2021 than last year, exceeding the three-fold market growth that analysts expected.

According to the company, the consumer enthusiasm for Samsung foldable is exemplified by the success of the Galaxy Z series.

Twitter launches Dark Web Tor service amid Russian censorship

0

Blocked by the Russian government, Twitter has entered the Dark Web and people can now access the platform via a Tor Onion service to bypass the censorship.

Russian users can use the Tor anonymity network to reach Twitter, announced cyber-security researchers.

“This is possibly the most important and long-awaited tweet that I’ve ever composed,” Alec Muffett, the cybersecurity expert, and designer of the Enterprise Onion Toolkit which makes deploying Tor onion services easier tweeted.

“On behalf of Twitter, I am delighted to announce their new Tor Project onion service,” he posted late on Tuesday.

Tor’s anonymity network routes a user’s Internet connection through a selection of different servers, run mostly by volunteers, around the world.

“Making our service more accessible is an ongoing priority for us,” a Twitter spokesperson told Motherboard, pointing to Twitter’s “supported browsers” page, which now includes a link to the Tor onion service.

In March, 12.77 percent of Tor relay users were originally connecting from Russia, according to data by the Tor Project.

Facebook launched its own Tor version in 2014.

Twitter has launched the Tor onion service, optimizing it for the privacy-protecting and censorship-evading network.

India’s Lahiri chases elusive success at The Players Championships

0

Over the years, the Players Championship on the PGA Tour has turned out to be a very difficult outing for India’s Anirban Lahiri.

In five outings in which he played in the last seven years, Lahiri has missed the cut four times in the event with a total prize fund of nearly USD50 million which is considered as the fifth major by most professional golfers.

In 2019, he finished tied-74th while the event was canceled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now with the 2022 edition set to be played at the TPC Sawgrass course at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, from March 10-13, Lahiri is hoping that his fortunes will turn this week and he will be able to achieve better results than in the previous years.

“The Players Championship is the fifth major at least among the players. Personally, I haven’t had a lot of success. Definitely, I’ve struggled with a few holes, specific holes, which have not fit my shot shape, and I think that’s been the challenge for me here at Sawgrass. There are a few holes that I have to come up with a slightly different game plan, different strategy, which I did the last time and had a little bit of success,” Lahiri told the Indian media in a virtual interaction on Tuesday.

To come up with a better performance this year, Lahiri is hoping to concentrate on his iron play and short game to tackle the TPC Sawgrass course.

“This week I’m just focusing on getting my iron play and my short game sharp again. I think that’s what I need to complete the picture.

“Definitely working my way back into playing better golf and getting into some form. Definitely carrying some confidence off the tees and on the greens, and I’m just trying to translate that into the rest of the game,” said the 34-year-old Pune-born golfer who is currently settled at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Last week, Lahiri had finished tied-72 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Orlando.

A seven-time winner on the Asian Tour and two-time titlist at the European Tour, Lahiri is currently enjoying a full-exemption on the PGA Tour. Life on the PGA Tour has been challenging for Lahiri, a constant fight to survive in the Tour with the full exemption.

Lahiri has struggled during the early part of the year before finally managing to pull things together towards the end.

But for this year, he does not want to wait till the end. He is hoping things will start taking a turn rather earlier.

Asked about his roadmap for the season, Lahiri said the plan was to do his best every week.

“The beauty about what we do (on the PGA Tour) is that you’re one week away from being a PGA TOUR winner. You’re one week away from being at Augusta. You’re one week away from having a two, three-year exemption.

“So really the road map boils down to what can I do to play better? What can I do to change the kind of scores I’m shooting. It’s not like a systematic investment plan where I’m going to five points a week for the next 20 weeks. It’s not like that in golf,” Lahiri said.

Instagram hides followers for private accounts in Russia, Ukraine

0

Instagram has begun hiding information about people’s followers, who they’re following, and people who are following each other for private accounts in Russia and Ukraine to reduce the spread of misinformation.

This means that people following private accounts based in Ukraine and Russia will no longer be able to see who those accounts are following, or who follows them.

“We’re also not showing these accounts in other people’s followers or following lists, or in our ‘mutual follows’ feature,” Meta said in a statement late on Tuesday.

The company has notified private accounts in Ukraine and Russia about this change.

Instagram is also highlighting tools like Your Activity and Download Your Information to accounts in Ukraine and Russia.

Last week, Meta started demoting posts containing links to Russian state-controlled media on Facebook.

From Wednesday, Stories that contain a link sticker pointing to a Russian state-controlled media website on Instagram will be placed lower in the Stories tray.

“We’ll also label these Stories to let people know that they lead to Russian state-controlled media websites,” said the company.

Specifically, the company is downranking posts from the Russian state-controlled media in Feed and placing them lower in the Stories tray.

“We’re also showing people a notice before they reshare content from these accounts in their Stories, letting them know that the content comes from Russian state-controlled media,” said Instagram.

“Lastly, we’re not recommending posts from Russian state-controlled media accounts in Explore and Reels, and we’re making these accounts harder to find in Search,” it added.

Putting an end to rumors over Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) factory, located in Kolar district of Karnataka, Large and Medium Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani on Tuesday denied any move to hand over the factory to private companies. He said BEML is under Centre’s control and nobody should pay heed to rumours.

Replying to JD(S) MLC Govindraju’s question in the Council, Nirani said khata (deed) for 12,500 acres in BEML’s 16,000-acre land was done. “The Centre has agreed to hand over 3,500 acres to the state government for industrial purposes. We have conducted another drone survey and this report will be submitted to the Union Minister. “BEML has 1,149 acres of land. Earlier 979 acre was allotted for industrial area development but the land was not utilized which will be taken back to set up industries. The Centre’s economic affairs department has decided against the closure of the factory. The state must adhere to the rules since it comes under the central government,” the Minister said.

Elaborating further, Minister Nirani said that the factory’s additional land will be taken back. “The Centre’s parliamentary committee on economic affairs has decided to withdraw stakes from government-owned factories so it will be withdrawn in a phased manner. The 47 percent stake in BEML will remain, Nirani stated.

As per Dr. Sarojini Mahishi’s report, 85 percent of jobs in the state must go to Kannadigas. We will take action if industries violate this,” Nirani warned.
