In what could be termed as the biggest shock after the Facebook Data leak controversy, the bank accounts of the IT giant Cognizant (American MNC) have been frozen by Income Tax officials.

‘Few bank accounts of Cognizant has been frozen today. The company failed to pay Rs 2,500 crores of DDT (Dividend Distribution Tax) to the government as per the Income Tax Act. The amount is due for the FY 2016 – 2017. Within few days, the FY 2018-2019 is about to begin.

The DDT issue arose after Cognizant purchased its own shares from a shareholder in May 2016. Both the parties came to a compromise. An American Company and a Mauritius company were holding the shares previously with 46% and 54% of shares respectively.

It deduced 10% as a tax on the remittance to the US Company, but did not deduct the same on remittance to the Mauritius Company’, said an IT official.Reacting on this, Cognizant issue a press note. ‘Until the further hearing, the HC ordered the IT Dept. not to take further actions. Cognizant has paid all applicable taxes on the transaction. The IT Department’s actions are without merit and contrary to law’.Only time can tell whether this is a politically motivated attack or a genuine one.

Excluding few opportunistic politicians, and individuals, almost everyone in the state of Andhra Pradesh hates the Indian National Congress (INC) Party, or simply the Congress Party for bifurcating Andhra Pradesh. Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP came to power, criticizing Congress for bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, and that too unscientifically.

But the recent political developments in Andhra Pradesh politics are hinting towards an alliance between TDP and Congress. Following are the factors that indicate towards the TDP – Congress alliance:

  • Congress attending the All Party Meet
  • AP People bitter over BJP
  • UPA (led by Congress) is the only alternative to NDA at Centre
  • Third Front still on papers
  • Hatred towards Congress is on a downward trend, thanks to BJP
  • Pre-polls indicating Congress win in Karnataka
  • Congress moral victory in Gujarat Elections

The alliance between TDP – Congress might still remain a dream, given the dynamics of Andhra Pradesh state politics. By not inducting KCR into the state cabinet in 1999, Chandrababu Naidu has made a historical blunder. And now, if he goes ahead with Congress in 2019 Election, it would a historical blunder, that could end TDP’s chapter in Andhra Pradesh.

Despite fighting against the Centre, the YSRCP continued backing it by blaming the AP Government for their Political gain. The party’s main leader Vijaya Sai Reddy’s latest comments on CBN not only appeared cheap but also reflected the party’s cheap agenda.

With the desire of nothing but the Power in the state, the party YSRCP is working towards its goal by joining hands with the Centre. Keeping the State’s development aside, its members are working hard to form an alliance with BJP in order to get their support in 2019. MPs like Vijaya Sai Reddy took a step further and met Modi to seek his blessings by touching his feet. As the clip went viral, some Pro-TDP channels lambasted Sai Reddy’s act by tagging as cheap tactics and power mongering nature. Deeply upset with this, Vijaya Sai Reddy made some derogatory comments on TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu.

Talking to the press, Vijaya Sai Reddy declared that the entire party of TDP is a dacoit party and CBN is the biggest dacoit in it. Unable to control his tongue, Reddy alleged that if CBN is born to single father and single mother, he wouldn’t have placed the state on this bad terms. Keeping his agenda aside, the common people are in quite a shock with Reddy’s comments. We are hearing many unparliamentary words exchanged between political rivals. But Sai’s comments have certainly crossed some limits which will damage to his and his party’s mileage.
