Casting decisions can significantly influence a film’s journey, and several projects undergo changes before the final actor comes on board. Garividi Lakshmi, a biographical drama based on the life of a renowned Burra Katha artist from Uttarandhra, is one such example.
The film tells the story of Reddy Vijaya Lakshmi, popularly known as Garividi Lakshmi, who earned recognition for her contributions to the traditional storytelling art of Burra Katha. Interestingly, director Gowri Naidu Jammu recently revealed at the film’s success meet that the role was initially narrated to Sai Pallavi before it was subsequently discussed with Nivetha Thomas and Nithya Menen.
Explaining why the actresses did not take up the project, the director stated that certain terms and conditions prevented them from accepting the role. Eventually, Anandhi came on board and delivered a performance that earned appreciation from audiences.
Gowri Naidu Jammu also expressed his happiness over the support extended by People Media Factory’s Vishwa Prasad during the film’s journey.
Despite receiving appreciation for its subject and performances, Garividi Lakshmi has reportedly struggled to achieve encouraging box-office numbers. The film also features Rag Mayur, Naresh, Raasi, and LB Sriram in important roles, while Charan Arjun composed the music.
Although the film’s commercial performance has been modest, the director’s revelation about the actresses who were considered for the lead role has brought renewed attention to the biopic.
