The casting of the upcoming Indo-UK film Chennai Story is reportedly undergoing a change. Samantha was previously announced as the female lead in the project, but recent media reports suggest that Shruti Haasan is now set to take over the role.
According to the reports, Samantha’s exit is linked to her decision to take a break from acting following her pregnancy. While there has been considerable curiosity around the project ever since Samantha was attached to it, the latest buzz surrounding Shruti Haasan’s reported inclusion has once again brought the film into the spotlight.
Chennai Story is being directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Philip John, known for Downton Abbey. Nimmi Harasgama and Philip John have written the screenplay, and the film is based on Timeri N. Murari’s novel The Arrangements of Love, which was previously adapted from the author’s acclaimed storytelling.
Set across the UK and Chennai, the film follows Nikhil, a working-class South Asian Welshman who travels to Chennai after his mother’s death in search of his estranged father. During his journey, he meets Anu, a sharp and street-smart private investigator, whom he hires to help him uncover the truth about his family.
If Shruti Haasan’s casting is officially confirmed, Chennai Story will mark another interesting addition to her upcoming lineup. An official announcement from the makers regarding the cast and production plans is awaited.
