Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s latest crime thriller Daayra has opened to a muted response at the box office. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is inspired by the real-life Disha case that drew widespread attention across the country.
Despite featuring two prominent actors and a filmmaker known for hard-hitting subjects, Daayra did not generate significant buzz ahead of its theatrical release. The lack of strong pre-release momentum appears to have reflected in its opening-day numbers.
According to trade reports, the film has collected around Rs. 1 crore nett on its opening day in India. The figure marks a slow start for a project backed by an established cast and crew.
With the initial response remaining subdued, the film faces the challenge of showing stronger growth over the rest of the weekend. Audience reception and word-of-mouth will be crucial in determining whether Daayra can pick up pace in the coming days.
Daayra marks Meghna Gulzar’s third collaboration with Jungle Pictures after the acclaimed films Talvar and Raazi. Pen Marudhar of Pen Studios has handled the film’s distribution.
