The Sri Lanka batsman have finally shown their batting skills in this tour of India. After the high-drama incident that took on the second day of the test, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli declared the innings at 536/7.

Sri Lanka lost their first wicket for the first ball of their innings. They lost their second wicket at 14. Sri Lanka began the 3rd day at 131/3. Ex-captain Angelo Mathews scored his much-awaited 8th test century in the match. Mathews (111) was dismissed after scoring 111 runs in Ashwin’s bowling, with Sri Lanka at 256/4.

Sri Lankan Captain Chandimal went on to score his 10th century in tests. His partner, Samarawickrama made a quick start after scoring 7 boundaries. His patience was later tested by the Indian spinners who bowled good line and length. Succumbing to the pressure, he edged the ball in the bowling of Ishant Sharma. Saha took a brilliant one-handed catch behind the stumps. Sri Lanka were 317/5 after the dismissal of Samarawickrama (33).

Ashwin got rid of ARS Silva and Dickwella, while Shami and Jadeja took care of Lakmal and Gamage wickets respectively.               

Ashwin picked 3 wickets. Ishant, Shami, and Jadeja picked 2 wickets each. Sri Lanka is still trailing by 180 runs with 1 wicket remaining at 356/9*. Virat Kohli scores 243 runs in the first innings.
