Melbourne Stars signed Pakistan bowler Haris Rauf as an overseas replacement player for Dale Steyn, who is still recovering from a side strain that he picked up during the Mzansi Super League. Steyn will miss out on the opening game of the season, as a result.
“Our priority is Dale’s fitness and continuing his treatment. He is very keen to play but we’ll let him rest after a long flight to Australia and put him in the best position to be ready for our match in Moe on Sunday,” Melbourne Stars’ physiotherapist, Tommy Simsek said on Thursday (December 19).
Rauf, who made his Pakistan Super League debut in 2019 for Lahore Qalandars, will now join Nathan Coulter-Nile, Hilton Cartwright, Clint Hinchliffe as part of the franchise’s new signings, who have made the 13-man squad for their season opener against Brisbane Heat.
In 18 T20s so far, Rauf has returned 19 wickets at 24.21.
